Paradiso has a unique feel because it has as much well-designed space outside as it does inside. The patio area feels more like a garden than patio. Even in the crazy Dallas heat you'll find people eating or cocktailing al fresco. The bar area is beautiful. It's covered in flowers and fun European style furniture. The bartenders were knowledgeable and fun to hang with because they clearly enjoy talking about their craft. Nothing worse than a bartender that is too important to chat it up with their customers. I had a delicious signature recipe called Dreaming of Suze (pic 2). It immediately caught my eye because Suze is a staple in our bar. It's a yellow French bitter liqueur you don't regularly find out at restaurants. I've never seen anyone infuse it. They complemented Mezcal with strawberry-infused Suze, sage syrup, lime and strawberry puree served in a tall glass over ice. It was a nice summer recipe and one I will definitely try to recreate at home. My second was a classic old fashioned made with Basil Hayden bourbon (pic 4) It was delicious and well-balanced. If you're in Dallas and want a change of pace from the usual, go down to Bishop Arts and take in the eclectic flavor while enjoying all the shops, restaurants and some cocktails at Paradiso. I honestly want to go to Encina once just to order these pancakes and, should I actually finish the generous portion, order another, and another, and another until an ambulance arrives to resuscitate me from dying of such glee... only to order another round. You can always order up with the Montreal Long Haul that includes the pancakes but also comes with duck leg confit and hash browns, but honestly, as good as they are they just can't compare. One last notable mention: Clarified Bloody Mary Martini. I don't do Bloody Marys. I don't do martinis. I do this, however, foaming at the mouth. Horseradish infused vodka, friends. Since it was our first time, we got all the viral hits. The breakfast sandwich was pretty yummy. Honestly though, I think there might have been better options on their well written menu. You could taste all the quality in the ingredients but it didn't have a big flavor punch and the texture to me was just all soft, no contrast. The Goat Guisado Tacos, now that was a game changer. Build your own tacos, super flavorful stewed goat meat with the cabbage crunch and those amazing cheese crusted tortillas - Yea that was a show stopper! But for the main event, those Blue Corn Pancakes 100% lived up to the hype. The pancakes themselves had this lovely mealy texture and they weren't super sweet on their own. She confirmed she was our server, but offered no apology whatsoever for leaving us waiting. Not sure what brought on such a cold and dismissive demeanor, but it really set a disappointing tone for the meal. The service bottlenecks didn't stop there. We ordered just two simple drinks--a brut rosé and a vodka soda--and it took an unacceptably long time for them to arrive. It wasn't as if the place was packed, either. There were a few big tops, but otherwise, the restaurant was manageable. It seemed like they were struggling behind the bar, as there was only one bartender on duty. Management really needs to invest in training up their staff to provide a better overall experience. Whether it's learning how to leave a bad attitude at home, introducing yourself to your tables, or cross-training staff so they can jump in and help each other out during a rush, some serious operational and hospitality improvements are needed. The kitchen is doing a decent job, but front-of-house training is desperately needed before we'll consider coming back.

It's also in a very walkable area, which made it easy to visit on foot. There is some parking available, although I would say it's somewhat limited. I don't think it would be the best spot for a very large group, but it would be perfect for a few friends getting together. I also appreciated that you can order a drink while waiting for a table or bar seating, which made the wait feel much more enjoyable. Overall, The Bowen House was one of my favorite places I visited while in Dallas. Between the atmosphere, welcoming service, and well-crafted drinks, it's definitely a place I would return to the next time I'm in town.

My dog has never been a "patio" dog, he gets antsy and loud and rarely sits down. I was nervous, but the entire staff made us feel so comfortable. She immediately brought him some water and was incredibly warm and kind. She went over the menu and recommended multiple things. When my wife arrived she was again, super helpful, helping her find vegetarian options and offering substitutions. Another employee came by when he heard my dog whining, he refilled his water and gave him some much needed pets! He even came back and hand fed him meatballs and bacon! Jax was treated like royalty by the staff and it calmed my anxious nerves. I wish I had asked his name, he was so nice. After being in Dallas for a year, I think I've finally found my local "spot" the place is cozy and comfy, super chill and the food was SOOO good. Those potato chips?!! Insane. I ordered the French dip and the shandy beer cocktail. Ugh I wish I could've eaten it all. Again, thank you Jessie for being such a delight. 10/10 customer service. We will be back!

A couple of us recently stopped by Nova with pooches in tow. Even on a warm, muggy summer night, the patio was irresistible. Immediately after we sat down, we were greeted by a friendly employee with a tray of ice-water in hand. While he was lovin' on the dogs, another employee came out to take our drink orders. Resistance to the charms of our furry friends proved futile for him as well. While enjoying a refreshing, St. Arnold's Lawnmower, complete with frosty mug, we couldn't help but be impressed with the warm reception we'd gotten. This place clearly LOVES dogs. Perhaps just as much as it loves its customers. A total of 3 employees made their way out to greet the dogs, during our time there. Clearly, we were the most popular folks there... The pups ice water was refilled numerous times while we enjoyed our delicious Lamb Kofta and Vietnamese-style NY strip. Taking into account the friendly service, atmosphere and most importantly the food, Nova is a class-act. Somewhere to revisit again and again. Especially with the dogs! read more

For some of you that can manage to make the trek away from the "hip" Bolsa, throw on a pair of jeans and flats and head over to Nova. Its small (Approx 20 or so tables - but a big patio outside for warmer weather), intimate, cozy and everything you want it to be and more. The speciality cocktials are delicious and the hummus and smoked salmon potato skins are just the start. The pizza was great, lots of toppings and a thicker crust without being over bearing but the hot spot was most certainly the noodles and the bowl seems to keep growing...its almost impossible to reach the bottom of the bowl. Only two desserts though a chocolate cheesecake and something else, I cant remember but the cheesecake was rich, yet somehow light. Drink and dinner prices were great. Nothing overly expensive and for the most part the average price was between $12-$15 and $6-$9 for cocktails and glasses of wine. Service was most certainly a plus! read more

As much as I want to LOVE this place because the food is great, it's ALWAYS something with their service. Today, I called in an order at 1:16 and was told my food would be ready in 15 minutes. I sat at the bar and didn't get my food until 2:06 without ever getting an apology or explanation. They weren't slammed or even very busy and didn't offer us ANY condolence. I told our server I wasn't happy about the wait and her response was "I don't know what I can do for you". I will likely not be back here again. First time trying nova after all the hype. Waited for a table to fit two when there were two bigger tables that they were "saving just in case" for a bigger party. Finally they let us take the big table as I see them seat another party of two who came in after us. Our drinks came out with our appetizers. Both were delicious though. Waited for the pizza for over 40 mins... Finally told them to scratch the pizza and left. Server wasn't friendly, the experience was pretty lame. My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here. He got off work late, but thankfully the kitchen was open until 10pm on a Sunday. It's hard for us to find time to celebrate together due to our business travels, so this was a special treat. The dishes were a great mix of delicious flavors and fresh ingredients. Charlie had the hostess pretty much lie and tell me that they attempted to scan my Gift card and work through the problem in the back, but little do they know that I could see them and I watched them only discuss and Charlie pretty much just shook his head and said no and sent hostess back to me. Sorry Charlie, but do better. Restaurant was not busy and you could have at least tell me in person. I just can't believe that they would dismiss me like that. I have a useless $40 gift card. Oh well, Much rather pay for a pizza from Neony Pizza Works down the street. NEONYS is actually worth paying.

He then said "why are you looking at me like that?" I told him "because you didn't have to yell at me." I asked for his name, which apparently set him off further. Instead of just answering, he snapped "I already know what you're going to do" before finally telling me it was Eddie. Then he called me "high maintenance" and said "get out of my bar". The guests around us looked as stunned as we were, including the women waiting behind him to be seated. Before we left, I verified his name with another server, and Eddie yelled at us for doing that, too. Then we walked straight out. I later learned the owner of this bar is named Eddie. If that is who screamed at us, then there is no manager to complain to and no reason to expect anything to change. This was our second visit. The food the first time was honestly bad, but we gave it another chance since everywhere else was full. Now I understand why this place had open tables on a game day. It was also uncomfortably hot inside, the AC did not seem to be working. No customer should be screamed at for sitting at an empty table. We will not be back and I would not send anyone here.
