Trivia moved here from phd. Literally the only reason i came back. I grabbed a big table bc i had a bunch of folks joining me. I received the third degree from at least 3 servers making sure i was going to fill the table. I assured them i was. You have to get here early bc otherwise you can't get a place to sit. I ordered a lemonade and mac and cheese. Mac and cheese took like 30 min and was $10 for a small bowl. Better than last time i was here but not worth the wait. It took so long and my friend who arrived after me got her potato skins i was like maybe they forgot about me. When i was finally able to flag down a server i was told the kitchen was backed up but that they could check on it for me. I had also asked for water with no cucumber which finally came an hour later when i asked again. The servers seemed to be avoiding us and when you could get someone to stop they were disinterested and acted like i was inconveniencing them. I had my hand up for several minutes bc i had no idea how to get my servers attention for a box, my check and my water. The food here is overpriced and the service is terrible. The patio was freezing and loud. 10/10 do not recommend.

Omg found this spot last minute for a date night! It was late night eats when we got there so the menu was limited. We ordered drinks that were delicious and sweet as well as strong. The owner was cooking in the kitchen greeting some guests and spoke to us. We tried the pizza which is hand made there! We asked the owner could we get his unique made desert before closing it up and he allowed us! The restaurant had plenty of seating inside and some outside. Delicious hands down worth it !

A nice diner with little touches of international! Good and generous portions of foods! We got the pork chop and fresh tomato pizza. They were both very generous portions and solid.Sat at the bar-service was standard and ambiance was very casual and timeless.

One of my favorite neighborhood spots, late night delicious food. Good service! Drinks tasty! Mood lighting and good music

My late husband and I discovered Nova on the way to The Kessler Theater almost 10 years ago. My daughter and I go back when we are in the area; definitely worth the drive for me. We went on a Sunday early afternoon recently, there was live music; however, people were talking loudly. It appeared that put server was being shadowed by a new employee service was excellent!! Our mimosas were tasty as were the eggs with biscuits and gravy but the french toast casserole was out of this world delicious!! Parking lot is small; some street parking is available. A few tables outside, a small bar inside, booths lined the windows and tables fill in between. There's an additional room that is sometimes used for large groups or overflow seating.

If there's one thing I've learned about restaurants, it's this: if retired people go there, it's good. If they have steady regulars, it's really good. If those steady regulars are retired, you found a golden ticket. Nova is that and more, the perfect blend of the retro aesthetic and demeanor of a neighborhood diner but with food that seriously makes you stop talking after your first bite. It's genuinely my favorite restaurant in Oak Cliff. You also get the added benefit of it being a hole in a wall so you impress anyone you take there're for the first time. If you're looking for the perfect, off of bishop arts but still close enough you can hang out there spot, this is it. Seriously, the decor is true, laidback vintage (not kitschy like newer restaurants), the staff will know your name quick, and the food is beyond comparison. It can get pricy, which is why I save it for special occasions but they have an incredible happy hour too if you just want drinks (and the drinks are top notch). Cannot recommend this enough, just be careful parking, the lot is small, go with the neighborhood street parking instead.

I can't emphasize how friendly the staff is! We are new to the neighborhood and they were so welcoming. Brought our dog a delicious looking mix of chicken and bacon! The food drinks and service were all exceptional. Can't wait to come back! They have an outdoor ACd patio that dogs can enjoy too. Really a great local vibey spot!

Amazing brunch spot, my mom and I go every now and then. We had the biscuits and gravy and the French Toast Casserole, both were very tasty. We also had mimosas, they had a good OJ to champagne ratio. The place is a little small so it was a little load, but there was live music when we were there. Our server was friendly and attentive.

Steak Oscar dish @ Nova with Autumn Haiku, dry red blend wine
    Donald C.

Cuisine Selection: I definitely recommend the Steak Oscar here. We have a monthly wine tasting (The Eclectic Society) event here. The fine selection of steak topped with crab was delicious. They also have many other great dishes here. Wine Pairing: This petite wet steak cuisine was moist, flavorful and moderately seasoned. The cuisine paired well with Autumn Haiku, a TX/CA dry red blend with mostly Petit Verdot. The moderate tannins went well with the medium well grilled steak. The service and ambience were also excellent, warm, professional, and personable. This restaurant continues with an eclectic approach from New and Old World features. I would encourage those new and old to Nova to try this dish. Dr. Chandler Certified Texas Wine Specialist Chandler Plaza, LLC

    Meatloaf special

Nova is a gem a mile away from the many overpriced and overrated restaurants in Bishop Arts. Don't be put off by the frequent bar crowd or the late night hours. This is place to drink and be merry and a place to eat good grub. Nick, the owner, is a great guy and will get behind the bar and serve customers. This is a regular spot for me and my wife. One time my wife ordered the Cajun shrimp and it was too hot for her. Nick was so apologetic. He got her new shrimp and gave us a free crème brûlée. For the price, I think the food is tasty and the portions generous. They also offer specials. Jump on the meatloaf if you get a chance.

So busy eating I forgot to snap more! Pure taste sensations

I wished I had gone to this place 5 years ago when it was highly recommended! Scottish owner is amazing unlike any hospitality you will ever experience in Dallas. Not only that but I ordered the Italian special and hands down it was the best home made pasta and seafood I have ever had in Dallas. Very busy on a Sunday night which does not surprise me! I will be telling everyone and coming back for more as soon as I can. Thank you so much it was what my mental health needed this evening! These pics do not do the food justice!

Location Just off Davis, downtown Oak Cliff Parking Street and side lot Atmosphere Upscale-linen table cloths, napkins Seating Tables, large bar, outside-deck Service Outstanding-no sooner did we order the food-poof-delivered. Very friendly. Showed us pictures of the specials on his phone! Love that! Menu Get the specials-so good!! We had the calamari-served with a side salad. Not the typical rings-tender and juicy. The salad dressing was light and tasty. A fellow customer had the grilled asparagus topped with sweet potatoes and large piece of meat. The Brussel sprouts were cooked with blue cheese and cranberries-tender, not mushy, generous blue cheese. We had the chocolate dessert that disappeared so fast! Creamy, light, and chocolaty! Perfect! Summary Local upscale dinner spot with great prices! Wide selections-awesome specials! The service is outstanding. Can't wait to return and explore more of the menu!

Even in the crazy Dallas heat you'll find people eating or cocktailing al fresco. The bar area is beautiful. It's covered in flowers and fun European style furniture. The bartenders were knowledgeable and fun to hang with because they clearly enjoy talking about their craft. Nothing worse than a bartender that is too important to chat it up with their customers. I had a delicious signature recipe called Dreaming of Suze (pic 2). It immediately caught my eye because Suze is a staple in our bar. It's a yellow French bitter liqueur you don't regularly find out at restaurants. I've never seen anyone infuse it. They complemented Mezcal with strawberry-infused Suze, sage syrup, lime and strawberry puree served in a tall glass over ice. It was a nice summer recipe and one I will definitely try to recreate at home. My second was a classic old fashioned made with Basil Hayden bourbon (pic 4) It was delicious and well-balanced. We let our server know that upfront, and while we were seated in the dining room without issue, the experience quickly went downhill. From the moment we mentioned happy hour, the tone shifted. The server spoke down to us for the remainder of the visit. As an interracial couple, it was especially uncomfortable that when discussing happy hour and pricing, he directed everything toward me (the Black partner), but when it came time to pay, the check was brought to my partner. That inconsistency didn't go unnoticed and felt like profiling...plain and simple. Service timing was also rough. Our old fashioned took about 20 minutes to arrive, and the food took 45 minutes to an hour...despite the restaurant being nearly empty. Throughout the meal, staff repeatedly tried to clear our plates when we were nowhere near finished, which made the whole experience feel rushed and unwelcome. Food-wise...credit where it's due. The Bolognese was fantastic. The fried chicken sandwich was just okay...no real seasoning or noticeable brine, though the hot honey it was tossed in was great. The old fashioned tasted watered down, even though I know it likely wasn't...just poorly balanced. We both work in the service industry, so we're understanding of small hiccups. But this wasn't that. This was poor service layered with uncomfortable behavior. If happy hour is offered, it shouldn't come with judgment...train your staff accordingly. Unfortunately, this isn't a place we'd return to. Being made to feel profiled and unwelcome on what was supposed to be a celebratory night isn't something we're interested in experiencing again.

Intimate conversation isn't possible due to the decor failing to absorb sound - very industrial. If you like fine dining, unique flavors, and good service, then don't dine at Stock & Barrel. I sure won't. This restaurant has more in common with Michelin Tires than Michelin Stars. My very first bite of "crispy" polenta was so hot it burned my mouth (and was obviously reheated in a microwave) and had zero flavor. It took about 20-30 minutes to get a drink. I ordered the batch valentines cocktail listed at the top of the menu. My server forgot to bring it with the other drink, so that took another 10 minutes. Before I discuss my food issues, I want to let everyone know that the Spicy Tuna Tartare Tostada was actually very good. I enjoyed it. I was so hungry - the prix fixe menu was very small for $115 per person. I was never offered the wine pairing, which I would have done going into the experience. I'm glad that I didn't because wine couldn't save the food. After the first bite I hate to report that the rest of the food was also bland, burnt, and disgusting. My crispy duck confit was SCORCHED. The duck was dry. The kumquat sauce was the only flavor on the main course. The quinoa risotto was dry and flavorless. Very disappointing and underwhelming. Next, I was praying this bread pudding situation was going to leave my experience on a good note. Nope. They sliced a French bread baguette, burnt it, scooped melted ice cream on top and random unmelted chocolate chips. That's embarrassing. Not only is this not bread pudding...it's not fine dining. It was gross. Zero out of 5 stars. Do not eat here!

Unfortunately, everything else was a struggle from the moment we walked in. We didn't have reservations, but eventually found seats at the bar. Given how busy the place was, we figured the bar would mean faster, more attentive service. We were very wrong. We ordered two beers, a non-alcoholic drink, and three appetizers. The drinks arrived, and the appetizers followed about 10 minutes later -- fine so far. But there were no utensils. We had to ask for them, and we asked for plates as well, which never came. The empty dishes from our appetizers sat in front of us for a solid hour with no one clearing them. The bartender who took our order never once checked on us. With 3-4 people working behind the bar, only one server approached us during the entire 40-minute wait between appetizers and dinner to ask if we needed anything. The bartender told us twice that our food was "coming out shortly" -- and still, 40 minutes passed. When dinner finally arrived, my order was wrong. I ordered the Mongolian Short Rib, listed clearly under the Entree section of the menu. The bartender claimed I had ordered off a "happy hour" menu -- one I never saw or was told about -- and had swapped it for BBQ Pork Ribs without saying a word. Knowing a replacement could take another hour, my friend swapped plates with me and took the ribs. He had ordered the steak frites, which, for a rare steak, should have taken no more than 5-6 minutes to prepare. The third entree, fish and chips, was just okay -- a bit soggy and not particularly fresh. To top it all off, after everything we dealt with, the bartender never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. The food has potential, but the service was inattentive, disorganized, and frankly unacceptable for a busy restaurant that should know better.

Often times after it's all said & done, you wonder - was that worth it? Thankfully, that is NOT the experience I had at Haywire! I ate here on August 9th, 2025 and enjoyed everything about it. I was with a large party but would love to return for a more intimate experience. On this Saturday, my younger cousin was graduating from Parker University so I was in town for the weekend. At around 1pm, I was one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. Unfortunately the parking is a bit confusing. There was construction being done on the same street when I went but there's a parking garage for customers that's difficult to navigate AND the elevator that connects wasn't operating at the time which was an issue for many (but not me, I got a good spot & walked). My party hadn't all arrived yet so I took a gander. Upon entering the tall doors, the space breathes southwestern elegance: wooden structure, leather seating, separate dining areas with highlighted ranch-style art. The abundance of space gives it an open-concept feel. The lighting fixtures are modern, the space was dim but not too low, with an option to utilize the large windows also. I was quiet impressed at the overall presentation. When my party did arrive, I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and a Hibiscus Haze with Vodka. The table shmoozed as we ate some of the appetizers: the Crab Dip & Green Tomatoes, both amazing. The food did take some time but, considering it was 10-12 of us, that's expected. The Hibiscus Haze was splendid: smooth & flavorful, a great concoction. Cobb salads are usually pretty thick but this one was HEARTY. It came in a large bowl stuffed with the all the toppings. The dressing it was tossed with was well balanced but could've used a tad bit more. With some pepper & a little ranch, I was set! I defeated the salad but it also left me stuffed to the gills. Satisfying meal that I would order again! There are tons of restaurants to dine at in Dallas & sometimes you never know which is worth your time. Despite the inconvenience of parking, I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is a good place to eat. I called before deciding where to eat on a Sunday afternoon to confirm parking situations. Parking is not easy downtown so this played a huge factor in figuring where, out of the dozens of brunch places, to eat. Definitely a bit of a walk to get accommodated at the actual restaurant so valet seemed the most reasonably enticing for parking solutions. Well, I called and spoke with the lady at the front desk. I confirmed with this little girl FOUR TIMES IF 1. They had valet available today 2. If it was complimentary. Come to find out it was not complimentary. And $7 for parking just doesn't sit well with me when there are ample free options else where with satisfying beverage, meal, ambiance, and service. All of which, I DID NOT GET AT HAYWIRE. I come in and although I had a reservation that I was 10 minutes early for while noticing tables available, I was told by that same girl who lied to me about parking I needed to take a seat. Reassuring me that it would only take two minutes to be seated. 10 minutes later I see coupled and groups walking in and guess what? They were immediately sat. While I am waiting to be sat at one of the three clean tables I'm staring at. I finally tell my boyfriend I am about to eat at the bar and he goes to the hostess stand to inform them our frustration and guess what? We were sat immediately. I get seated and there are two standing fans placed next to my table that's blowing my hair all over the f*****g place. I had to tell them to turn them off. What? No AC in this place either?? We immediately ordered and got the elk tacos for an appetizer. The tacos are WAY too spicy and way too salty. Too spicy AND too salty?? They're a no for me. You literally can't taste anything because of both! I HATED these little tacos. Probably the worst I've ever had. Ever seen someone attempt to pinch a bit of salt to season and the entire top comes off?? These tacos. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak. He loved it (loves spicy and seasonings because he's Cajun) but I tried it and it was over seasoned. Again? Couldn't taste what I was eating. The mashed potatoes were divine. Enjoyed those! And then the green beans were tasteless. Hahaha what a joke. I ordered the barbacoa chilaquiles and it was literally too spicy to eat. Inedible. My eyes teared up, my nose started running, and I couldn't taste anything after a couple bites of the spice. I was so f*****g over this place I just ate my boyfriend's mashed potatoes and we left. If I had it my way, I wouldn't have paid for a thing here. They don't deserve our money and I HATE they got a cent from me. I'm livid. I hate this place W I L L N E V E R B E B A C K
