We dined at Written by the Seasons in Bishop Arts last night, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. Things got off on the wrong foot when our server forgot my cocktail order and an appetizer which was the pork ribs. Minutes after ordering the cocktail, appetizer and a bottle of wine our server came back saying we needed to order every dish up front. At that moment we told them we do like to take our time and share dishes as they come out one by one and he honestly seemed happy to hear that. They then brought the wine but the cocktail was again completely forgotten. One of our other items showed up fist (kimchi pancakes), which I will say were great, but we then asked about the ribs and he confirmed he completely forgot about them. He said he put the ribs in as a rush and they would come out with one other dish. We said this would be fine, but not minutes after the ribs arrived all four other dishes showed up simultaneously. Our table was overcrowded, and it completely took away from the leisurely dining experience we were expecting. To make matters worse, two of the dishes--the baby carrots and the Korean glass noodles, were swimming in sauce, so much so we didn't want to eat them. While this may not be the case we felt rushed. We had received all of our food in less than an hour. The overall service made us feel like the restaurant was trying to turn the table as quickly as possible for the next reservation rather than provide a thoughtful dining experience. For a restaurant at this price point and pedigree, we expected much better pacing, attention to detail, and execution. Unfortunately, this visit fell well short of those expectations. read more

Had a good meal stopping in on a work trip. Started with the mussels good and slightly spicy, wanted a little more kick but they entered the clean plate club regardless. Did bite into a piece of hard gristle which had me nervous for my tooth for a second, but we move on lol. The scallops were the highlight perfectly cooked with a sweet citrus flavor that blended really well. Finished with the sticky toffee pudding, only complaint is I wish the serving was bigger(because it's too good). I will admit walking by this restaurant many times when I'm in Bishop Arts and it's only recently that I finally found out the last word in the title is Seasons not Stars. This Michelin recommended restaraunt is no joke however, as it's home to a great selection of seasonal offerings, to delight any palette. My friend and I split the dishes we ordered between us and I highly recommend doing so as the portions can be large, depending on the item. We selected the Butternut Squash Foccacia (with an herb olive oil). This bread is pretty heavenly as it's soft but slightly flaky, paired with the olive oil it melts in the mouth. Secondly, we ordered the Kimchi Pancakes (scallion, daikon radish and sprouts) and the Spicy Korean Glass Noodles (with mushrooms, bok choy, scallions, soy-ginger sauce, peppers, and a sambal). Overall I'd say the last dish wasn't my favorite because the sauce was a bit on the runnier side for my liking, but I enjoyed the kimchi pancakes, especially the dip that comes with it. For drinks, we both ordered the same cocktail; Spicy Hibiscus Margarita (Don Fulano Blanco Tequila, hibiscus concentrate, lime, agave, and jalapeño) and I really enjoyed it even though it was a whopping $19 each. We came here to celebrate a birthday with drinks and the staff was amazing even though we didn't order food. They even brought the birthday girl a dessert. I got their spicy hibiscus margarita which was so tasty, all of their drinks were good and our whole party was happy. We also tried their cold pressed juices. I can't believe I used to walk right past this place! Now I'm wondering why I waited so long. We came for Galentine's Day dinner and it was absolutely phenomenal. The food was incredible. Portions are generous, so we split a few appetizers and shared a main, which ended up being perfect. Every single dish was thoughtful, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. One of my favorite parts (and this might sound funny) was the atmosphere. It was lively but not overwhelmingly loud like so many restaurants that morph into clubs as the night goes on. This felt like a true dining experience, a place that genuinely wants you to slow down, enjoy your food, connect with your people, and savor the moment. The service was equally impressive. We asked our server for recommendations and simply trusted her and she did not miss. Every suggestion was spot on. We ordered the pork chop as our main, fully expecting it to be a little dry (as pork chops often are), and it was anything but. It was tender, flavorful, and honestly one of the best surprises of the night. I rarely order pork chops, and now I'm rethinking that decision. My husband and I debated between 3.5 and 4 stars for this restaurant. We loved the seasonal, fresh menu, but nothing totally blew us away. We came here last night and we had a fabulous time! At first the ambiance was busy which is a good sign, it means good food and I'd say that is accurate because the food was divine. Our waitress took good care of us. We did come in super hungry because we usually eat around 7ish and our reservation was at 8:30. Our waitress wanted us to know our entire order before putting anything in so it was a lot of pressure at first. We started off with the kimchi pancake and I didn't get to take a photo because I was starving we devoured it. Nevertheless, it has a good spice and nice texture. Then our main entrees came. Hubby got the duck confit which had a wonderful pairing of sweet coconut sticky rice with the spicy duck. The oven grilled grape sort of freaked him out a bit though Then I got the day boat scallop and it's one of the best scallops I've had to date. Scallops were perfectly cooked and had a sweet and savory flavor in itself, while the bacon added a wonderful savory flavor addition to it. I got so full so I ended up taking half of it home. I really enjoyed written by the seasons! It wasn't my fanciest Michelin rec'd experience, but the vibes were very good. I was in town and made the reservation in the afternoon and did not have any issue (although I did have to call to make the res - the Resy website did not allow me to make a dinner res for 1 person at any time, they told me on the phone it is a glitch). When I arrived that evening the place was packed, it was very busy! The area itself is popular and fun, so that adds to the vibe. There is only street parking, no lots. I was there on a Friday evening, so the only spot I barely found was about 2.5 blocks away (I got it as someone was leaving luckily)! Plan accordingly~ I had a cocktail called their summer tonic and requested they make it a bit sweeter since it's a dry drink. It was perfect! And the bartender (I believe his name was Logan) was also great - very attentive and helpful with recs. For dinner I had the day boat scallops with risotto and veg ($48); a bit pricey but the plate had me full by the end so overall pretty good value. And as a last note, there are individual room bathrooms - they are very clean. Overall wasnt totally blown away by my experience, but found everything to be quite favorable. This place has been open for a couple of years now and had been on my list of places to visit FOREVER. Well, my friend decided to have her 40th birthday dinner here so I FINALLY got a chance to check it out. We had a reservation for 7 people on a Friday night. We were sat immediately on the outside patio. The place is so cute and small, and the location is everything (Bishop Arts). All the food and drinks we ordered were great. Our server was also amazing. My only complaint is that things took FOREVER to come out. To give you an example of timing and how backwards our orders were, we had two friends join us an hour after we sat down and their wine came out before our cocktails. Amazing restaurant, service was wonderful. Our waitress was very attentive and accommodating for our 1.5 yr old. The only downside to this place is that it's not the most family friendly for little ones. When we got there we asked for a high chair but they said they only have one, which was in use by another party. At the time it didn't bother us too much since he was still asleep in his car seat but it made us feel very awkward. It was pouring rain and they mentioned they would have to run across the street to Paradiso to get a high chair from them since they apparently share resources. An interesting setup but it was slightly unprofessional to guilt trip us for wanting a perfectly reasonable accommodation that could be found at your nearest Chili's. So my sorority sister and I went out for lunch. Still fairly new to the Dallas Area, she recommended Bishop Arts. After we found parking the original plan was " tacos" but all that changed when we saw this " Cute ,quaint, airy restaurant space. Our servers name was Samantha"Sam", she was very chill and since this was our first time trying the restaurant she explained the regular menu which is curated every couple of months as well as the happy hour menu. It was a long week we chose burgers and I'm grateful. They were so filling and fresh, the veggies were amazing and crisp, and don't even get me started in the salad with lemon vinaigrette dressing. Food was amazing, the staff were impeccable, the whole vibe and atmosphere was upscale. This may be our new date night spot. The photos I took did not do it justice. Our waitress Leigh did a fabulous job answering all our questions and giving recommendations. This establishment is very nice. It's like everything is fresh. From farm to table! From the hand towels, appetizers, salads main course, desserts, libations....you can't go wrong. You will need to be prepared to pay as one as there is not individual ticket per person. It wasn't a problem for us because we knew this from reading the menu and it's explained before ordering. I have three stars for the ambiance, however, regardless of having a reservation, we were sat outside which was NOT our request. The food was so basic and bland I was taken aback. The menu seemed to be so interesting but every single dish fell short. The bread was honestly delicious, but the hamachi was fishy, the tomato dish was ... good, not great. The carrots were OVER seasoned and sauced, and they actually poured me the WRONG wine but played it off instead of replacing it. On Monday, July 13, around 6:30 p.m., I visited this restaurant in the Bishop Arts District. They have a lovely outdoor patio that was mostly empty when I arrived. I sat at one of the outdoor tables and waited for more than 20 minutes. During that time, servers walked in and out several times, but no one acknowledged me, greeted me, or asked if I needed anything. Meanwhile, they were serving the only other table on the patio. After waiting for over 20 minutes, I went inside to ask why no one had come to my table. I was told that I was supposed to check in before seating myself. I explained that, with an almost empty patio, I assumed someone would come over and let me know the procedure or at least acknowledge that I was there. I left feeling ignored and unwelcome. I can't know why I was treated differently, but the experience left me wondering whether my race played a role. That is an awful feeling for any customer to have. If there is a policy requiring guests to check in before sitting on the patio, it should be clearly posted or communicated. No customer should be left waiting for more than 20 minutes without even being acknowledged. read more

I thought their service was okay, our waitress didn't seem that enthusiastic about serving us, but that's okay. Their drinks were pretty weak in terms of alcohol content unfortunately. For small plates we almost ordered all of them. The best ones to me were the hamachi crudo (my friends thought it was salty but it was fine to me), the chili glazed pork belly (top 3 dishes of the night), and I really liked the wild mushrooms. For large plates the scallop and duck confit were good. The duck confit was crispy and the duck was super moist and juicy inside. Love that each dish has a side of green. This place has a Michelin recognition not a star, but I can tell that the food is worthy. The menu is seasonal and everything is fresh. They have a shorter but quality wine list and the happy hour is one that's admirable because it gets a lot of value we learned just by happenstance before 6 PM on a weekday that you can get bottle of wine at half price so go for it. The portions are rather large for all of the servings and the view is fresh clean and very bright with north facing giant windows. The service was pretty good, but I can imagine when they get busy as we went on a Wednesday night but on Friday or Saturday where it could take you quite a while to get through all of your meal but still fun place to go out fun place to date have fun. read more

We went here for brunch and had a great time. First, the area it was around there is a lot to do and walk around and spending some time with the family. We went in, it wasn't too busy for a Sunday. the service was really friendly and good. Our waters were refilled frequently and everyone was really attentive. Then I remembered this restaurant I wanted to try called Written by the Seasons and we were so happy to see it was open for lunch. The ambience, food and customer service were all excellent.
