I'm not theonly one ripped off by t his company. At the time I hired them, the company was called NOVEL Construction . Thing is, that when I considered them as honest people topaint the exterior of my home,I became hesitant due to the fact that Eli Azizi told me that the painters would need to dig a trench next to my property "so that the drips of paint could run down". Neighors on both sides of my property had had their homes painted ... no drips ever ran down. I called the office, but to no avail. Very unprofessional. I have a document that says I cancelled the painting contract. The work to be done: painting the outside of my home, including the needed preparation, and also fix a very bad job (build 2 combination security/inside doors) done a couple of years ago by a socalled professional local company. Novel Remodeling did a wonderful job on our kitchen remodel at a very reasonable price. Matthew was the general contractor who oversees the work crews. Prior to finding Novel Remodeling, we had approached two other firms, but neither firm was able to come up with an acceptable design. It was as if they were trying to fit us into their cookie-cutter vision of what the kitchen should look like, rather than listening to us and designing what we wanted. Conversely, Matthew worked with us in designing exactly the kitchen that we wanted. After listening to us describe what we were looking for, he put together a design presentation, including 3D drawings. He managed to do what other firms said was impossible given our space limitations. After a couple of modifications, we accepted the proposed design and then the demo work began the following week. Not only was the design to our liking, but the materials picked out by Matthew were exquisite. We receive compliments from everyone who comes over to our house. This is our first time contacting a remodeling company, and we were extremely nervous as the bathroom remodel we where trying to do had setbacks. After researching various companies, Novel was chosen because of their ability to accommodate people with accessibility issues (Disabled and Elderly) and had commonsense protocols dealing with the Covid-19 issue. Other companies made it impossible to hire out because of their over the top protocols, and Novel seemed to handle things with a safe and commonsense approach. Our Project Consultant was Ben Oirech, who was extremely professional, giving us his credentials and showing us upfront that he was licensed and ADA (American Disability Act) experienced. We soon had a great conversation and explained to him our bathroom remodel. We also expressed that we hoped we found a great company and wanted to build a relationship, as we had other construction planned for our old home. As a courtesy he did inspect our roof, which was part of our planned home improvement. I already knew after the recent windstorms that it would need to be replaced. He did confirm my assessment and worked with us to get an exception deal on our roof. Over the next two months his team replaced our roof and remodeled the bathroom. The roofing team members were extremely professional, efficient, and respectful of not only our property but also our neighbors. Each day they cleaned and removed and debris, leaving our property spotless. As for our bathroom, Leon, was our contact and he visited often to ensure that the project was going well and wanted to make sure everything went well. They were also very knowledgeable about Los Angeles Building Codes, and made sure that everything would pass inspection. As for cost, we all know that the prices our going up. I saved up for years to have enough for the bathroom, and was worried as I would need to save up years again before we could touch the roof. Novel provided reasonable pricing and also helped advised on how to finance the roof as that was in need of repair. Ben and his team treated us as people, not some just some customer. I wish I could remember everyone's name, but each person from roof, to tile artisan, to runners, to plumber were all great people. They truly look out for us, did their best to find us the best deal possible, and worked with us every step of the way. They also offer Solar Power, and their consultant John is another knowledgeable guy who will also work with you to find the best solution possible. Spending $10k+ on a project was definitely the biggest remodeling project I have ever done in my 5 years of being a homeowner. I had the project bid by 5 parties and not only was Novel Remodeling the most reasonable, Ben, the project manager made all my anxiety go away. They knocked the job out in half the time they said they would, left no mess and everyone says how amazing the remodel looks. Never trust a company whose cost estimators neither keeps their appointments nor have the decency to call and explain why they don't plan to show up to the meeting they set up. Made an appointment for July 23 at 7pm to have a cost estimator come out and give us a quote on remodeling my kitchen. They specially requested not only I was there but that my husband was also present when the estimator came out as it would save them an additional trip if we decided to go with them. I told them it would be tough for my husband to leave work early in order to make it to a 7pm appointment on a weekday but I would make sure he could be there before I confirmed with them the appointment. I did my due diligence and ensured my husband would be home for the appointment and then called this useless company back and confirmed the appointment was on. I clearly respected their time. However, they had no such respect for me. It is now 7:37pm and not only has this estimator not showed up but they haven't even had the decency to call me and explain why. Their front office must close at 7pm as I have called them 3 times and it has gone to voicemail and no one has called me back to explain why the estimator is a no show. Please view the photo that I have attached here to see what he did to my carpet. I had lifted up the carpet to show him what was under it. He thought there might have been hardwood underneath and asked for an exacto knife to check. I thought he was going to scrape some of the glue off of the floor, but instead he made this large 6 x 8 inch hole in my carpet. The hole is in a potentially dangerous traffic area, too. Called a couple of places for estimates. The guy who came out didn't take any pictures or notes. He observed the area that needed work under the house from a great distance. Wouldn't give any idea of pricing. Said he would but didn't ever email an estimate only a list of things to be done which we know some of them don't need to be done. I have proof of everything expressed. Buyer beware!!! We have had the worst experience with this company. They do not have customers service, they are rude and they behave like mobsters, threatening, intimidating and when you leave a review on skill level, professionalism and overall eve prince they respond with lies and accusations and blame, they blame the city and covid for the delays, at least from our view, the delays we complain about had nothing to do with those issues, everything they installed was incorrect of backward or broken by workers during installation. Finally, we are sitting here going into 5 months of a tiny unfinished bathroom, emailed documented harassment and multiple threats of lean. The project is not completed and they demanding final payment before it's finished or inspected. The only payment owed is the one submitted upon completion which they stated they will not complete over email. Completely unethical. Connected to a variety of DBA, there is no evidence the owner uses his real identity when we checked the license number. Their business practices appear shady and opaque. We were suspicious from the onset due to Novel's rep's hard sale practices and amateur attempts to look folksy and establish trust. We are building a new front yard fence and asking around for estimates. Somehow, we got into a fence construction database and received a call from Yosif E.., a project consultant from Novel. Yosif came right away to meet us, and we discussed the project and budget of $15-$20K max. Yosif was endearing and folksy at first. He insisted on being addressed as "Uncle Joe." Unfortunately, Uncle Joe was not so interested in understanding our needs. All along, he was pushy, insisting we sign the agreement, which he priced at $22-$25. Naturally, we refused and asked for samples of materials and a proposal before signing any contract. Uncle Joe showed up with a subcontractor the next day with two wood samples: cedar & bamboo. I asked for the price difference from either material. Uncle Joe suddenly became agitated and turned into "Rambo Joe" to my surprise. He started screaming and accused me of behaving unethically for asking the price difference of the materials. Uncle Rambo declared that the flat cost was $25K and refused to provide an estimate with cost or services breakdown. He barked at the crew and told them to leave the premises immediately while he continued screaming all sorts of rude nonsense at me. Looking back, I thank God that Uncle Joe lost his cool and showed his true colors before it was too late. The bottom line is that we received an estimate with samples from an established contractor in the area. It's half the price from Uncle's for the same design, using top materials and without the attitude and a lack of professionalism. My impression is that Novel business goal is to milk customers. The first time we met with Eli at our house regarding our bathroom estimate was in August 2014. We went over the specific details of everything that My wife wanted to have done, I really appreciated the fact that Eli was very detail oriented. They started our project the next day and continued working every day except Saturdays and Sundays till the project was completed, they covered everything from electrical plumbing carpentry Kaiann waterproofing and paint. What I really appreciated with Novel Remodeling is the fact that the price was set at the beginning and did not change all the way till it was completed. However it became a nightmare when he kept pressuring me to sign a contract and said I could simply cancel after 3 days if I found a lower bid. Horrible experience. I contacted Novell because of their ratings for a quote to repair and paint the outside of the house and siding. I had Ben come out to my house and he gave me a ridiculous price. I said no thank you and made a call to my uncle who is a contractor. He gave me a rough idea on how much a job like that should be and his price was not it. While i spoke to him, my wife spoke to Ben about the flooring I needed done at the house. He gave me a price that was the down payment on a house. I understand that they are a contractor and subcontract out the work, so it will be higher than going directly to a siding and flooring company, but I know we were paying at least 40%-60% too much. Ben was extremely pushy and was saying our price is only for today. I have people nearby and if I leave, the price is gone. My uncle said kick him out. If he is acting like this now, imagine what he will do when they start the work. I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED. My wife wanted it done soon and rain season was on us, so I agreed. Now, the outdoor painting and stucco group were awesome. They did great work, but the cost that I paid for replacing the wood components was not reimbursed as all the wood except for one or two pieces were salvaged. Money lost there. Then came the flooring contractor. The guy was non-responsive and when he did finally show up, his attitude was so poor I almost threw him out the first day and asked him to leave later on. I called Ben and asked to switch companies for the flooring, but he refused. The job was to FULLY demo the float on the floor to the substrate, which the vendor did not do. They didn't even have me move items out of the rooms or they cover them with plastic. They got dust on every and any item that was in the areas. It took three days to clean up the mess they made. They scraped the float instead of removing it so the floor creaks in many areas, especially where the float is breaking. The demo of the float was the biggest cost to be incurred for the flooring. Again, more money lost there. The work was so shoddy, I would have been better hiring a few guys from home depot. They didn't secure my toilet, they didn't seal any of the joints. I had to call them back on four occasions as I continued to find horrible ways that they cut corners. They didn't use waterproof caulking in areas where there was water, like the bathroom. The caulking pulled out in three days on its own. The flooring contractor told me I had to hire someone else to do the baseboards that they were supposed to install. HORRIBLE experience. Now I have a floor that looks horrible and is bound to start having problems soon. I am out a tremendous amount of money, and I am not happy with the way the work went down. I called Ben and he said well they came back to fix the issues didn't they? I said I shouldn't have had to clean three days, and pull them back to do a decent job. If this was their house, they wouldn't have put up with it. The worst thing of all was what Ben did next. I get a call from Ben saying "I know it didn't work out the way you wanted, so I want to come over and discuss how we can help you." I was thinking a discount on the services or to have another vendor come in to do a better job. Ben comes over and offers me a "hundred dollar discount" to give them a 5 star rating. He said they were available to come out and quote me anytime after 11:30am today in a very tv-car-salesman fashion and I said, "okay... let me just look up your reviews on yelp". As I'm on the phone, I see all these negative reviews and I ask him if he knows why and he says, "no, why?". And I said, "I don't know, I'm asking YOU if you know why." $15,000 for the simple asphalt roofing of a 680 SF house is very steep. $250 for an engineer to weigh in on structural considerations for a patio is also very steep, for a free consultation, especially when I have a background in architecture. And most impressively, $20-24,000 to rewire a 680 SF house is really unrealistic. The person was pushy, got annoyed when I made it clear I wanted to wait. I feel bad, because I know there is commission involved, but these are big decisions that shouldn't be rushed. For reference, over the phone, an electrician in Culver City in what I imagine is a much more competitive market mentioned this may cost in the ballpark of $7k. edited for brevity. Eli came to my apt for a consult, was incredibly thorough, gave me pricing on the spot and walked me through the process of retrofitting, which was the most cost effective option for my windows. He was also very accommodating-- I don't have time to make phone calls during the day, so we did everything via text message, which was so much more convenient for me. Windows were installed last week, and look amazing. He recommended going with white on the inside (they had to be black on the outside per my HOA), and the white makes my place look so much brighter and more modern. My husban and I recently bought a fixer upper in Encino. The house needed a lot of work. We contacted a few contractors nearby and were always left with unsatisfied taste in our mouths. We needed a 2 bathrooms remodeled with kitchen and full backyard. It was a big project and we needed a contractor that can get the project done within a 6 months. Novel Remodeling stood out among the bunch of contractors we interviewed all weekend. It was a hard choice, but they provided the financing and David was very knowledgably. The project began in our kitchen with a full demo crew starting within the next week. We had our bathroom demoed soon after. A kitchen designer from Novel came by and helped us pick materials from local vendors in LA. We went over the entire design, and 3D plans made out and it was exactly what we wanted. Next came bathroom remodeling, and we had our plumbing replaced, new toilet and vanity installed and shower enclosures. It was exotic to see the transformation and the quality of workmanship was superb. David arrived daily to check on the crew, and keep us informed about the next few days. We had materials delivered to house, and everything was kept clean. We moved on to the backyard only after a month and half of interior remodeling. Our backyard was completely transformed. We had our patio area redone with stamped and stained concrete. We had a new patio cover installed and chose vinyl to match the design of our neighborhood. We replaced our wood fence for a modern designed wood fence and went completely drought tolerant. Decomposed granite was our top choice and David agreed it was an excellent choice for our home. We had large agave plants installed at the edges and small walkway incorporated towards a historic tree that already existed in our backyard. David and Novel Remodeling did a wonderful job. First off, a huge shout out to Gabe!! I left a message over the weekend just to find out what I can do about my front yard and the sidewalk lawn. I didn't feel like mowing or watering anymore. The lady replied on Monday, and right on the same day, Gabe came over to my place to discuss the project. Lo and behold, the project was finished in a blink of an eye (two days to be exact). We recently had a chance to work with Novel Remodeling after finding them on yelp and we could not be more happier. When we requested information from a referral company, we had many companies call us and they were extremely rude and felt like no one really listened to me. After doing 6 interviews with different companies, John from Novel Remodeling stood out. John was polite and attentive to we needed. He listened carefully and recommended the best materials for our kitchen and bathroom remodeling. The rest of the contractors were rude, did not offer any details, or failed to make an impression. We were hesitant about the negative reviews on yelp and wanted to do more research. After doing research on the yelp reviews, we realized most of the complaints for Novel Remodeling were invalid. As a restaurant owner, I can relate to Novel Remodeling and the remodeling business. Customers that have not had a chance to try my food should give it a shot and judge for themselves instead of reviews left from distasteful people and the reviews left on yelp seem to be from people that have not experienced the full nature of what John and his crew can do. When we started our project, we noticed how well organized attentive Johns crew were. They cleaned up after themselves, prepared the work environment each and every day and made sure my concerns were addressed immediately. John arrived almost every day to check up on his crew and personally answer my details. He helped me pick out tiles for the bathroom, and kitchen. Redo parts of the plumbing that were done incorrectly and bring my kitchen up to modern code. In a record of 36 days, we had our kitchen and bathroom done the way we wanted it. I had a representative from Novel Remodeling give me an estimate for a project my husband and I were interested in. We were spending a fortune on our electrical bill and we decided to get solar panels installed. I can say, hands down best investment we've ever made. We spend A LOT less on our electrical bill, so installing solar panels was the greatest thing for us. We were very pleased with the service we received by Novel Remodeling. WARNING!!! Do NOT let these cutthroats talk you into funding work through entities like the HERO Program and California First! It attaches the debt to your property tax, along with an ungodly amount of interest. Made my tax payments go from $1200+ every 6 months to $12000+ every 6 months (which is double my pitiful SSI income). I wouldn't have had as much work done had I known, which is why they didn't mention it. Novel gets paid immediately from such entities so they pushed every upgrade they could. When I discovered how much the payments had increased, only then did I realize how screwed I was. My trust lawyer told me I had time, that the county waits 5 years before starting foreclosure. Well, maybe the county does but not HERO and CA1st! They swooped in the same month the 2nd payment was due (I hadn't made any payment on the first installment because I was paying off debts that had fallen by the wayside when I had a DWP bill with a comma in it, to try to bring up my score so I could get a mortgage) with foreclosure threats to begin the following month. And since it's considered tax, the debt is not dischargeable in bankruptcy and even Keep Your Home California can't help. They say they've seen a lot of it lately, and it frustrates them that they can't help people. Oh, and by the way, having a 100% paid for house is actually a BAD thing. Every lender in town wants to refi an existing mortgage, but not start a new one. Daniel, the contractor who is only charming and friendly when he's trying to get your money (and actually asked me to write my first review of Novel here during the work, so take positive comments about them with a giant salt lick), says he's "not interested" in fixing the roof that is leaking after less than 2 years. It wasn't a patch job either, the roof was old and caving in and had already been re-covered, 6 layers thick (legally it shouldn't be more than 3), so they had to strip the entire roof down to the rafters and put a whole brand new roof on, so it shouldn't be leaking after a couple years. Granted that work occurred when he worked for another company (which he claims is bankrupt and the owner fled to Israel), not Novel, but the work he did last year through Novel is sub-par too. He only hires Home Depot parking lot rejects who pretend they know what they're doing but they don't. Been less than a year and things are falling apart. There is no way you will get quality work from them, and they won't fix the issues with the crappy work they do accomplish. read more

If you have unlimited time and money, and don't mind being lied to, this is the company for your project. These folks will lie to get your business, then take their sweet time about completing the project. IN this case, the project was a multi-phased one, involving windows, bathroom remodeling, and painting, accruing a cost exceeding $40,000. The site was in San Pedro, but judging from the slowness of the contractors doing the work, could have been in Milwaukee! Less than a year after this project ended, a huge crack appeared in the new sink that had just been installed. Would they replace it? OH No! That could never have been their fault! Poor quality sink? They'd never install such a thing! I am amazed that this company does not stand behind the products they sell. Novel did offer to install a new sink, but I'd have to buy the replacement sink, of course! Most likely, if Novel installed it, it would probably soon crack again. read more
