Where can I start -- they were friendly and charming when pitching the job to me. I had purchased Ikea cabinets and provided all appliances for the kitchen remodel. They damaged by new GE profile range, and failed to modify the gas line, so the range stuck out beyond the cabinets. Installed the cabinets round my frig too low, and then shoved the frig under it, distorting the upper cabinet. Installed 12 volt wiring so they could not use the under-cabinet lights that came with my cabinets. Installed the kitchen motion sensor switch in the dining room! Had to redo all ceiling light cans when they installed them crooked and out of line (after arguing that the issue was the fact that I had beams). Washed paint and plaster tools in my jacuzzi. Removed supports from pre-made under sink cabinet, causing it to distort and doors unable to close. I bought a replacement cabinet. Installed backsplash tiles crooked, and redid them - I had to purchase more! Cleaned tools in my bathtub leaving debris. Failed to identify a bearing wall, resulting in my paying for reinforcing the foundation. Worker(s) stole two AllClad saucepans. And much, much more. I eventually fired them after 6 months and hired a carpenter and an electrician to make corrections and finish the job. After seeing no workers for weeks at a time, they scheduled work, several guys would show up in my kitchen, discuss in Hebrew for a half hour or so, then leave having done no work. This happened on several occasions. It was a $37,000 nightmare. read more

We had a really positive experience with these guys. We had to upgrade our kitchen so we had David start with our cabinets. Loved how detail oriented he was and overall was just very professional and clean the entire time. We also spent a long time deciding on the right paint colors but he was super patient during that as well. Ultimately, we decided to keep all the cabinet boxes but we replaced the doors with a white shaker style. David custom built the ends of the kitchen and the posts which was such an important design element for the overall look of the kitchen. Disappointing. Great on the phone but no follow through. Novel responded to an inquirey on homeadvisor.com. Their phone representative was professional and friendly, though a bit more salesy than I would prefer. He set up a meeting to bid on my project. I received a call from the person who was supposed to come the night before, confirming the time and location. Result? No show. No call. If they can't show up to even quote on a job, how can I trust them to show and do the job? They will not get my business. UPDATE Someone finally showed up about 4.5 hours late. What impressed us most, was his professionalism he was the third of 3 quotes that we received and while he was not the least expensive, he was the most thorough. This is a very overdue review. We got our roof, kitchen and master bedroom & bathroom done in early January in 2014. We were referred to Novel Remodeling through one of acquaintances. When we looked it up on yelp at that time, there were few reviews but they had were all 5 stars. As some people seemed to be happy with the result, we decided to try out. These were some of examples of our experiences. When we met with them to discuss and to sign the contract, they estimated that all of the work will be done by end of February. They started with roof, which they finish in 3 days but they did not pass the inspection twice. Our payment was scheduled as job progressed, and for us, the job was not done if the inspection did not pass, but they asked for the roof payment which we had to tell them several times that we will pay when they pass the inspection. These payment issue went on throughout the process. We were living in the house while the project was going on. Therefore, we were originally going to do the bathroom and kitchen one by one, but in order to shorten the duration, we asked them to work on them at the same time. Demolition went okay. They found this plumbing issue at our bathroom. We understood that it was an unpredictable issue that they only found out after demolition. We appreciated the fact that they wanted to weigh every solutions in order to minimize the damage and cost. However, one day, they specifically told us that they couldn't drill through one of the beams as it might weaken our house structure as a city inspector said during his inspection. 2-3 weeks went by without them doing any work in both kitchen and the bathroom since they had to "find the best solutions" and when we came home one day, they drilled the holes through the beam. We immediately called our contact, and he had no idea the hole was even drilled and he had to contact his crew to let us know what was going on. We do not expect the main guy to be on our site every day, but we believe that it was his responsibilities to know what his crew did on each site every day. He continuously not knowing what happened on the job throughout the whole process. Also, after they had an electrician came out, our house lights started flickering. We asked them to do something about it as we were worried about the electricity problems which can be dangerous. We even specially mentioned that we want the lights fixed as a priority, but it also took them another 2-3 weeks doing nothing. Similar things kept going on. The most frustrating thing to work with Novel Remodeling was communication. Every time we came home from work and had questions on things that we saw, he never gave the correct answer. We did not expect the guy to know answers to every questions that we ask even though they were basic questions that he should know. However, we would rather want him to say "I will look into it and get back to you" than saying something that is not correct and have his crew tell us something different. Every time we had any questions or requests, he always said "no problem, I will take care of it" but nothing got done. At some point, we were not sure if he is even listening to any of our conversation. Also, they did not communicate with us on whether his crew would be in on weekends or not, so one day, his crew just came inside of our house while we were sleeping upstairs. At the end, the whole job were finished in mid May which is already 3 months behind of the estimated schedule. We were happy with the fact that the job was finally done but it was really frustrating process. While the job was going on, we were too frustrated, and if we could give zero star, we probably did that. However, once the job was done, we requested to talk to his supervisor to share our experience for them to improve for future customers. The supervisor met with us and we had good and long conversation. He understood our frustration and he also apologized that there were some things that they could have gone better. At the end, we were compensated with some discount. We do appreciate him coming out and spend time with us to really listen to us and make an effort to make up. I am not sure if we would have a better experience if we had someone else to oversee the project as some people we met during the job seemed to know what they were doing. It has been over a year since the project was done and we had some minor issues. Since they guaranteed 10 year labor warranty, we contacted them. I have to say that it takes some time for them to come out. However, they did show up and took care of the issues. Even though it was frustrating during the project, but we give them 2 stars with the manager's efforts to make things right and the after project service to fix some of the minor issues with our house. read more

Was rescheduled with a 24 hour notice. We called and rescheduled again for Monday morning. Come Monday morning, again no show, no call this time. We had taken time off work to wait for them so this was extremely disappointing. When I visited the website, the "About Novel Remodeling" section made reference to the idea of how " quality cannot be compromised" and "adding value work." Well, it definitely didn't apply to how my property was left after I dished out over $28k. Much to my demise, when I saw the artificial turf being installed, I noticed a huge gap between the level it was placed and the level of the pavers. I should have put a halt on the work and DEMANDED that it be done correctly. I iterated that it should have been at the height of the pavers, but John Partiel and his partner insisted that this was fine and how it was supposed to be. Well, it's not fine. My front yard looks pathetic. The gap is atrocious and the pavers began shifting not too long after the work was completed. In addition, no protective covering was placed in between the ground and the wood chips, which caused a ton of a weed growth. In late September of 2016, just shy of two years after the project's completion, I contacted Novel with my concerns over the loosening pavers on my walkway and driveway. My driveway was no longer level. They sent someone out to fix the pavers and it was obvious that they were instructed to patch up certain areas with complete disregard for the other areas where it would soon happen again. Not to mention that they didn't even work on the driveway. When I asked the gentleman when he was going to take care of the driveway, he said that he was only instructed to the walkway. I was in disbelief. My driveway was the main concern! Another person also came to take pictures of the driveway (name not captured) prior to the walkway work. It was looking as if the work to be done was only going to be "patch work" again. It's now February of 2017 and I find myself with the same issues as before (the pavers sinking and causing uneven pavement) and I've reached out to Novel for a second time. It appears that they will just continue to send out people for small repairs, instead of doing quality work to begin with. It seems that every few months I'll need to call someone out for the same repairs. Very amateur work, indeed. read more

I live in a 70 year old house that was just waiting for someone to open Pandora's box. When I realized that I had a termite problem I interviewed 3 companies (including my own pest maintenance). I was highly impressed when Sean came and called in his termite team - they were extremely thorough - from inside, under, the attic, garage and patio beams - everything was looked at, and my home was half eaten away. While under the house, it was discovered that my foundation had slipped by 3 inches and that a leak had caused a mold problem. My house was quickly bolted down, and a specialized team came in and after testing, my bathroom was quickly demolished and the problem taken care of immediately - within the same day - and I ended up with a new bathroom. Next - hot water heater - when they kindly went to replace my old hot water heater on a new box (the old one eaten away) - it was discovered by all that the water heater was burned out on the bottom and the gas line behind it was dripping gas, with areas of smoldered joints as well - a big shock as we were in immediate danger of blowing up the neighborhood. By now I was in shell shock, but Sean who was there and his team were caring and after some discussion we agreed to go ahead and put in a tank less water heater which required digging out with a pick an 18 inch by about 20 foot long ditch to replace the gas line from the house to the garage. Back to the patio, Sean called in an engineer to see how the beams could be replaced at the least cost to me, but it was decided that it just needed to come down - it was becoming dangerous and the main beams were eaten up. Sean offered a new option - a new aluminum patio cover complete with fan and lights. It took a long time to get the permits from our County, but Novell did all of the leg work to get the engineering specs, etc to them -it was a lot of hard work on their part, and it is really lovely now that it is up. From a cosmetic point, we sanded and clear coated my old original wood floors, painted the entire inside of the house, put up crown molding, new doors, new matching fans and added recessed lighting to all rooms. Sean even added in an attic fan with a dormer which is wonderful, and fixed some air vent ducts that needed attention - all above the call of duty. I can truly say that my team, headed by Sean was remarkable in being thorough and great clean up follow through. Each individual who came to work on my house was polite, helpful and professional. Sean or Jack were personally on top of everything and not a day went by with out a drop by to check the job or phone call/text message. They were so kind and helpful, always trying to do the best for me whether it be work or looking for financing - in many ways it was like having friends working not for me but with me - I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

I recently bought my first home and while in escrow; I decided I wanted to take out the carpet and existing tile floors and replace them with hardwood. I did my research and had quotes from a handful of places. One of the places I visited online was Thumbtack and that's how I was introduced to Novel Remodeling. Shortly after I put my project up for bids, I was contacted via email by Harry Griffen. I called the office to schedule an appointment, and spoke with Harry's brother, who answered the phone. He was very friendly, attentive, listened to my needs and the uncertainty of my closing date/time but throughout the call I felt that not only my business was important to them but it felt like I was talking to a friend. The appointment was schedule for that evening. Sean Partiel is the Project Manager that came out to my place for the initial visit and from the moment he walked in, I knew it was going to be a whole different experience. Up to that point, I had been dealing with vendors that would always start by asking me, "will the decision maker be joining us?" or a variation of the same. One of the vendors that got there after Sean arrived; completely ignored me and just addressed Sean directly!! Sean, without me having to say a word, saw my frustration and managed the whole situation brilliantly. Needless to say, he immediately put me at ease and really made me feel comfortable. Once we really discussed the project and, most importantly, my timeline, he drafted out a contract outlining all of the deliverables of the project, timeline and cost. His quote was competitive and without any hesitation I signed the contract right there and then to start on the project immediately the next day. I do have to admit I had my panic moment the night I signed the contract... I sent an email to Harry Griffen through the Thumbtack website around 3AM as I figured it wasn't appropriate to text or call Sean on his cell at the time - Harry responded first thing that morning and Sean was at my home to personally address my concerns later that morning as well. His crew started the project as planned. My project wasn't without its surprises but the guys that were working at my home constantly went over and beyond the call of duty. I never felt uncomfortable or concerned with the crew and Sean always kept me informed of what was going on with my project. When the Harwood floors were 99% complete and I finally moved in to my home; the very next morning I found out there was a leak in one of the upstairs bathrooms as it started raining in my living room, right on top of my brand new floors! This was over the 4th of July weekend. In a panic, my first call was to Sean even though the leak had nothing to do with the work that his crew had done but at that moment I couldn't think of anyone else to call for help. He wasn't in the area, but he called one of his colleagues, John, who showed up at my place within the hour. He addressed the immediate concern and in the process found out that the leak was an existing issue with the house and that black mold was now growing in my living room ceiling. John probably saw me at my worse as I was pretty overwhelmed when he got to my place and when I heard about the mold issue -- well, that just put me over the edge. John was very professional, polite and very sympathetic to my situation. He assured me that he was going to take care of everything and went on to explain what needed to happen step by step. He drafted the addendum to my original contract and listed the cost breakdown for this new project. He had the remediation team at my home within a couple of hours. He also kept Sean in the loop as to what was going on in my home. Sean checked in with me regularly and kept me up to date on the project and always informed me if anyone new was going to be in my home. Angel was leading the remediation crew that came to my home on the 4th of July. He was there at the beginning of the work and then came back that evening to inspect the job after his guys were done. I hired Novel Remodeling to do my roof . I meet with Kobbi and Manny project supervisors . We discussed everything that needed to be replace full demo of the roof ,replace all damaged wood. Replace damage facial boards as need it. Replace termite eaten wood paint and do gutters . I even paid $3000,00 for a orange spray treatment for termites. They promise me to paint all ivys and facial boards I would pick the color. They up sold me on underlayment Shark skin and s 40 years warranty. I was so happy that a company could offer me s full package to do the job. Too my surprise the whole job was a complete mess from the start . It took them a month to do the job . I didn't get the color roof I picked . They butchered my ivys and face boards . They painted everything the wrong color. I was threatened by Kobbi the project manager so scary I was afraid for my family. I called the owner he did nothing about It. They had come back multiple times to correct the issues. I have 196 pictures of my experience. To top my experience they started sending me e-mails threatening to put a lien on my house for default of payment when they hadn't completed the projects. read more
