Did the 6 course tasting menu, not a bad price for the amount and freshness of the food but I just wasn't impressed by the flavors at all. Nothing really wowed us. I would have probably preferred one single good entree. The waiter was very nice but he kinda just jettisoned the information as quickly as possible so it was hard to really appreciate the layers to what he was saying. Started us off with a bran-esque bread with butter. Had great texture and the butter was nice and rich on top. Otherwise nothing particularly exciting flavorwise. Asparagus first course with Caesar dressing and nectarine slices. The sauce was very good. The nectarines were a bit under ripe but they worked really well in harmony with the asparagus and sauce. The sauce is like a blend of pesto and Caesar. Snap pea with pasta and white wine pecorino sauce. Kinda lackluster. No distinct flavors. The snap peas are raw. The sauce is thin. The pecorino topping was all clumped into one bite Lobster ceviche style. Very good, very fresh, pineapple and tomatoes go well. Chips tasted like Fritos and I enjoyed that.But again nothing special flavorwise. Pizza "carrot forward sauce"- thick and flavorful. Dough is light and airy like a focaccia and tastes very wheaty. carrot caramelized in maple goes well with the cheese. While this was an interesting flavor combo but worked well. A4 beef - tender and tastes like corned beef. Beets are a little underdone but good flavor. Home made Worcestershire sauce is good Lychee rubarb ice cream with brown sugar crumble on top. Lychee initial flavor then it kinda faded away. Crumble on top was nothing special. I would only give it three stars because (a) I didn't think it was all that good and (b) you had to spend a lot of time cutting food, which in my mind makes it not a tasting menu. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We reserved the 7 course tasting menu and I can't say enough about it. The service was top notch and the staff knew every component and ingredient in every phenomenal dish. From the lingcod ceviche, agnolotti and pork, beets 3 ways, divine sole fish and pig blood ice cream... I added in the wine tasting menu and every sample was a perfect match to blight the course. Plus, I think it's fun to tell people that you are going to eat at "nowhere" Based on the advise of other Yelpers, we dive into the deep end with the tasting menu, which is a taste of everything on their small menu. Since it's a small restaurant (about 30 seats), we sat at the bar and have a front row seat to the kitchen. There we watched the chef worked her magic and prepared our food right in front of us. The set meals provides a great offering of locally sourced and fresh ingredients. The chef loves the food, and if you sit at the chefs bar she will explain to you the inspiration for each dish. Most definitely makes for a notable dining experience in Victoria! The tasting menu was very well thought-out and you could tell the chef was having and sharing their fun with it. The amuse bouche itself provided a great taste of what we had to look forward to: it was deep-fried corn served on a corn-based custard with a side of refreshing pickled corn - for them to be able to think of creating an entirely corn-based dish full of flavour and textures that just worked so well together should be an indication of the craft that goes into their dishes. A great balance between creativity and mastered technique (I don't think I've ever tasted pork loin so flavourful and tender! The crudo scallops served with a tuna cream sauce and lemon olive oil was chef's kiss! TWO morels served with wagyu! Don't even get me started on their reincarnation of ham and cheese as a ravioli dish with duck slices). Music was at a good level, vibe and service was kind and not pretentious. The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is the miscommunication with our reservations. We called a few weeks in advanced, looking to get a table at Hank's, their sister restaurant next door. We were told that they'd be able to accommodate our family of 5. When we arrived, we were told they actually moved us to a table at Nowhere - and at that pint we had no choice but to go for the tasting menu as opposed to doing an a la carte option at Hank's. I wish they'd called us in advance to let us know - some folks might not have the appetites or budget we did to be as flexible with the evening. No regrets - we had a wonderful experience at Nowhere and their tasting menu but wanted to note this caveat. read more

I am so glad my husband and I splurged on the tasting menu with wine pairing at Nowhere! The price is actually really fair for a six course meal. The appetizers were slightly small (though very flavorful) and at first I feared we would leave hungry, but that was not the case at all. There were two dainty appetizers, a pasta course, a fish course, a meat course, and dessert. Wine pairings were on point. I can't remark on the specifics since the menu changes, but I loved that the food and flavors were seasonal and matched the autumn vibes. Staff was kind but reserved. Nowhere. is the new establishment from the people who brought you Hank's. It's also essentially the same concept - finely crafted, locally oriented, seasonal, super-fresh cuisine. Nowhere's focus is on seafood and plants, whereas Hank's tends to focus more on land animals. Nowhere is located in the courtyard just behind Hank's. The atmosphere is similar - dark, shoebox-like and dark. But the tables here are all large booths, so I think they are encouraging parties of 6-8 to come and sample lots of dishes. There is also a nice-sized bar, but the bar isn't the centre of the room the way it is at Hank's. Dishes are small, but rich. And everything tastes amazing - every bite is worth savouring. My friend and I ordered the Ling Cod Cheeks with Fiddleheads and a morel mushroom ravioli dish. As long as you don't go in expecting absolute perfection, you will be very pleased - I found both the Ling Cod Cheeks and Morels to be a little tough, and I also found the fiddleheads to be slightly overcooked. Nowhere also features great, inventive cocktails and fantastic desserts. We had something made with Rhubarb and it lived up to very high expectations. read more

I tried to eat here twice. I usually have no problem dining within 30 min anyplace as a solo diner when I travel in YYJ/SEA/PDX/YVR. At least at the bar. I've never been so off put by a host in my life. The first time: "we're full, come back tomorrow". So I came back at opening the next day...doors are open, online says they're open. Host: "We're just printing the menus, so yeahhh". Me: "so yeah what? Are you saying you're not open?" Host: *WALKS AWAY*. Never experienced anything like it. Very impressed with the food - unassuming ambience- but the food , wow , incredible. We had the shrimp and ice cream to start, which sounds odd but it was such an intriguing pairing of spicy and coke- I was hooked. We also had the asparagus, swimming scallops and the octopus. They know that they're doing. My only, very minor, suggestion was their cocktail glasses. I had an incredible salal negroni but it was served in a very plain standard bar tumbler. I was under the impression that this was one of the best restaurants in Victoria. My experience proved otherwise: 1. The food was quite tasty - we did their plate for 2 testing - and most of it was good .... however - there is more to a restaurant than that ... 2. The wine list was a problem - think we ordered a bottle - and they charged us for 5 glasses - which is what it provides - but you'd think buying a bottle could be a couple of bucks less ... and I found it difficult to order as there was a very limited selection. 3. The bench seat was unbelievably uncomfortable - come on - get some cushions - especially if dinner is a 2hr affair usually! To sit on hard wood, straight upright, was NOT conducive to comfortable dining. 4. The music was quite noisy, often - and when we commented, we were told it was what they wanted to listen to .... 5. The ventilation system wasn't working properly - so was incredibly smoky and burned our eyes when they were cooking - a few times throughout the night. We went in summer - and the door was open - so not sure what it'll be like in winter. 6. Bit of 'attitude' ... not sure how to verbalise it ... I won't try it again - don't see the point when there are so many other restaurants that try harder to make you feel your money has been well spent and more comfortable. read more

I would like to share my recent experience with you. It was my first time at the restaurant and it came highly recommended by friends. My friend and I had the set dinner menu with approx. 7 courses. 3 of the courses was so salty as to be almost inedible. The other courses were "OK to good". I was disappointed by the food, which I could excuse by the chef having an off night? But what I found inexcusable was when the server brought us the dessert (a tart and truffle on top) with the statement to the effect that "the tart is so rich and sweet that they would spare us the trouble of eating one each, so they are giving us just one dessert to share". My understanding of set menus is that each person gets one of each course. The restaurant was packed that night-a Wednesday, so my feeling was that they were short of desserts. So instead of just being up front and say they were running short and would we mind, etc... they took their customers for fools and used that very pathetic excuse. I was disappointed by the food and feel disrepsected by their disingenuous behaviour. I am a supporter of local independent restaurants, so I hope Nowhere will do better in future. read more

Went here w family and friends. Party of six. Waiter was pompous and rude right Out the gate waiting 20 minutes before even taking drink orders ( and never asking again for remainder of dinner. Had to flag down other waiter for a refill). He said most people order 3 dishes for every two people so we teamed up in pairs and ordered three for each pair. Food came to the second and third pair but not to me and my brother until the other four had finished but we had not started. All the food was also cold. Finally I flagged our waiter and listed this out. He said it was progressive and was the nature of the kitchen. I pulled him aside and told him that it's customary for a table to eat together and that there was nothing progressive about it since all dishes were essentially tapas. He dropped his attitude a bit and our food came pretty quick after that along with the bill. No apologies or comps. Very low class. I wanted to like this place and I could see how it could be an exciting experience but the lack of kitchen help and terrible ,too-cool to do my job staff wrecked it.
