    Prime rib bolognese
    Norm W.

After reading all the stellar reviews about this restaurant we gave it a go. Not a long walk from our hotel, and a pleasant walk at that. We passed horse drawn carriages and touristy tours outlining Victoria's lengthy history. The restaurant is nice enough inside, and the service was quite good as well. That said we didn't get a five star meal, which is what we were hoping for. We split the crab cakes, which were more shrimp than crab. They did mention shrimp as an ingredient we just expected to taste crab, which we did not. The accompanying salad was quite good, but the two little cakes lacking crab missed the mark by quite a bit. My prime rib bolognese also missed the mark. Plentiful, hot, and nicely presented it didn't scream bolognese to me. We make it all the time at home and it was just a tomato sauce to me. No mortadella, which adds a richness that was lacking. The lovely K had the mushroom pappardelle which also fell short of expectation. The mushroom were so finely cut that you almost didn't notice them which is a shame. The greenery thrown on top was unnecessary as well. Overall we would give the service a 5 and the food a 3, which is kind of disappointing as we expected so much more. With so many choices in the downtown area of Victoria we would not return.

Located in the James Bay Square residential complex, near Starbucks. Came from our cruise ship and decided to go where the locals hangout at. We had The Duck Wings & The Duck Pouletine which was recommended from their staff. It was awesome, and paired well with their draft beers. The interior is cozy and chill. Friendly staff and cool atmosphere. I recommend.

Fish and chips. (Took after cut up fish). 7 out of 10. Breaded perfect amount. Fries great tasting with cilantro and perfect crispiness.

Not many gluten free options but they do have GF buns for burgers Food took a long time even though they did not seem busy Server was not able to answer any gluten or dairy questions so had to keep leaving to go and ask so kept 5ish times. I would rather have her go and check then guess. But I think she should have a menu at the cheat sheet for future. Fish and chips are 7 out of 10. Perfect amount of breading and crispiness. Fries have cilantro and are the perfect amount of crispiness and are super good. Avocado salad. 7 out of 10. At $25 definitely overpriced for getting one full egg, small amount of chicken and some avocado. Beef burger was a 7 out of 10. Love the ambience of the outside seating area. The inside was also very nice. Overall, it was good, but I would probably look into other places before considering returning due to their lack of variety with gluten-free options, and the salad being so expensive for what it was

The food and drinks here were great. Service was busy for a Sunday evening. I really enjoyed the clam chowder and the duck wings. So delicious! Cosy pub with a neat cocktail menu.

I have been there many times and always enjoyed the food and service. I'm comfortable going there alone.

Delicious. Blue collar breakfast and garlic and mushroom hash were great! Found this after checking other places - glad we kept looking.

Every single dish was prepared to perfection, offering robust flavors and great presentation. Service: 3/5 While our actual floor server was an absolute delight, the host seating process created an unnecessary and frustrating headache. As a party of four, we were initially directed to a tiny table meant for just two guests--a completely impossible fit. We had to ask our server to help combine tables, only to learn she needed explicit host approval first . The servers themselves are great, but the front-of-house organization and communication definitely need some improvement. Ambiance (5/5): Loved the overall atmosphere and energy of the cafe.

A solid spot with its own distinct vibe and an impressively long menu…read more Great for groups since there's something for everyone, and the portions are generous. Almost too much for one person. One thing that stood out: unlike most diners that only offer one brewed coffee option, this place lets you choose between regular and dark roast. Small detail, but appreciated. I went on a weekday morning, so there was no wait, but the space isn't very large, so I'd recommend making a reservation during peak hours. Staff were friendly overall, and the atmosphere is worth experiencing. That said, while the food was consistently solid, it wasn't particularly memorable. I ordered the Valentino, smoked salmon and poached egg on an English muffin with avocado, but the avocado was completely unripe, which brought down both the texture and the flavor. With a menu this wide, most dishes land in the "good" rather than "great" range, and execution details like that make a difference. If you're going for variety and the overall experience, you'll be satisfied, but if you're hoping for something exceptional, it may feel a bit underwhelming. Bottom line: a reliable brunch option for groups, as long as you're not setting the bar too high on the food itself.

It was delicious and beautiful. A lot of love and effort is put into this. Sylvia's scones are phenomenal. If she opened up a bakery I would buy all her scones and loaves. The bathroom is a nice size with a big tub. So why the three stars? There is a radiator in the room but ours didn't work well and would heat up and did not stay hot. We were cold. If you are on the first floor please note that sound travels. you can really hear any movement above you and you can hear conversations very well outside your room which didn't make me feel particularly comfortable since I'm sure even just is talking normally can be heard by others as well. Didn't feel amazing from a privacy perspective. When you book it says there is daily housekeeping. There's no daily housekeeping. We were asked if anything was missing from our room by the breakfast server but nothing else. If you're expecting your trash to be emptied or bed to be made that did not happen our whole stay. Location: not really walkable to the downtown area or most things in Victoria. A couple other small things that I wouldn't even mention if the above two were no issue: The bed was okay although not super comfortable in my opinion. The outlets are really inconvenient and there aren't many. They mention there is tea, hot chocolate, and coffee. There's no hot chocolate and no creamer in your room if you want some later. I do think this place could be good for others but it was not the right fit for us. For a bed and breakfast the room just wasn't super comfortable for us to want to spend time there.

And to top it off a small herd of deer have made the neighborhood their home. It all added up to a great stay. We'll book Fairholme again for sure.
