I remember when this place was a Merchant's. It was a Merchant's for the longest time ever before it became an NTB and now I hear they're now owned by Mavis. That being said, I've seen management change up at this place over the years and I've had some pretty bad experiences from previous crews here, but I've found the best use for this place is in oil changes, tire services, brake services, and so on. The regular maintenance stuff. I'll add that we used to be able to bring our own brakes/rotors/tires here and only pay for the labor, but the last time (2023) that I tried to do this at this location, I was told NTB didn't allow that anymore out of some liability issue or something. So, it seems that you need to purchase one of their own products for those services. However, they let me provide my own oil and filter for oil changes, so I think it's case specific. I made an appointment online to purchase and install new tires. 4.5 hours. The next day I took my car on the highway and the steering wheel was really shaking hard. I took my car to another NTB and was told that my new tires were all way overinflated by the installer in Culpeper and the balance was incorrect. So I spent a couple of hours getting the tires fixed at another NTB!! I will be send a complaint letter shortly about my horrible experience. Plan to expand this review soon. read more

I went in for an oil change and brakes. I knew I needed tires, but that will have to wait until fall. Anyway, I was expecting approx. $500-1000.00, bill. Nope! Sean came into the lounge, sat down and explained what was needed...brake flush, belt --- just basic car care. Well, ​that was refreshing...no upsale, no extra anything, and the bill was under what I expected. For a mature woman this experience is rare. They had the tires that I needed in stock and a technician (Sean) was still on site. They replaced both tires while I called an Uber to pick up my son. I've been to this shop a couple times and I wouldn't recommend going there. The first time I had an issue with my rear brakes and they tried to charge me for my front brakes which had no issue to begin with. I was still charged $1,000 dollars for that job, which I feel is too much. Today I had an appointment for 11am and when I showed up for my appointment I was told they were too busy to see me at my scheduled time. They told me to call back later around 2:30, so I did and was told that they were still busy and was told that I would still need to wait, which would be at least an hour if not more. There's no point in making an appointment with this shop because they cannot keep to their schedule. Apparently their appointments are not exclusive to that customer and they get overbooked. I will never go here again. It's a waste of time. I will go back to my regular mechanic, who actually keeps his appointments. read more

I had a flat tire and went in without an appointment. The manager and staff were very accommodating and took care of the tire. Manager said " I can't leave you hanging out there with a flat tire". The staff was super friendly and helpful. Totally recommend them!!! read more

I dropped off my wife's car in for state inspection. I get a call the next day stating it failed due to cracked taillight. I agreed bc it has been cracked for 5 years, and never failed. The lady on the phone wouldn't listen to what I was explaining, and went straight into trying to upsell me into buying a new taillight. The next day I verified the crack was not an issue and it should have passed, my reply was "I can give you the state troopers number and you can discuss with him"....I said yes give me his number, I called and explained my issue. He looked at it and said he agreed with me. I had to go back in to get the VSI sticker applied and rejection removed. Use caution if you go here for inspections or anything. Seems like they try to upsell instead of being honest. If they fail your inspection, and you feel like you are in the right, fight it! Go to your local VSP Inspector! read more

I am giving NTB in Culpepper five stars for being honest and awesome. My friend was visiting the Culpepper area and damaged the plastic undercarriage protection ("thing") on her car. It got bent, and she was worried about driving home with it, and potentially having it rip off while driving down I 95 in the rain. It was mid-afternoon on a rainy Saturday in November, and NTB told her to bring it right over. They put it on a lift and soon after called us over to discuss. I was braced for a big ticket. Between the two of us, we know very little about cars. We were both far from home, it was getting dark...in other words, we were sitting ducks when it comes to an emergency car repair situation. You know how it goes..."Well Ma'am, this will cost $500 to fix, and I noticed here that X is damaged beyond belief and Y could blow up your engine if you don't get it repaired right this very minute..." But that is not what happened at all. The manager told her that the best option was just to take the undercarriage protector off, as there was no way it could be repaired and it wasn't critical to operating the engine. He offered to put it in a plastic bag if she wanted to take it home with her, so it wouldn't get dirt on her upholstery. The cost for this prompt, honest service? Not a thing. He told her to have a happy holiday and we were on our way. If I lived in Culpepper, I'd be taking my car here on a regular basis. read more

I ran over a hidden curb and smooshed my skid plate on the bottom of my car. Charles, Caleb, and Jeremy were amazing! They took me in right away. They explained the issue in clear terms, and they fixed it right up. They knew their stuff, were personable, and fantastic! I don't live nearby and was nervous about making it back home. I have used NTB for tires and inspections for years now. I feel they are always honest about what needs to be done. They take the time to explain and show you exactly what's wrong. I believe they do their best to give me a great deal. The other day the tech decided to inspect my car and take a late lunch and I really appreciate that. They were short handed that day and he was also answering phones. It's great when people work as a team and have each other's backs. Also, I have to admit I was happy about the Keurig and the sci fi channel being on while I waited. :) read more
