I recently had a very frustrating experience at the NTB location in Silver Spring, MD that I feel compelled to share. We had our car towed to this location for a scheduled appointment to purchase four new tires. The tow truck driver left our key directly with the service manager, David. After waiting four hours with no updates, we called and spoke to David -- only to be told he had no idea where our key was and claimed he never received it. We had no choice but to drive to the location ourselves to find out what happened. When we arrived, another manager named Jared was there. Within minutes, Jared found the key right where it should have been -- in the envelope with our car's paperwork. Jared was professional, apologized sincerely, and offered compensation for our trouble. David, on the other hand, never once apologized and offered only $50 for the time, stress, and inconvenience his negligence caused us. The fact that our key was sitting in our file the entire time -- while David told us he had no idea where it was -- is simply unacceptable. Jared deserves recognition for how he handled the situation. David's conduct, however, fell far below any reasonable standard of customer service. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses it accordingly. David should not work in management. In fact, David should be fired. read more

No complaints! Came in during #RonaSZN to get a synthetic oil change for $49 (shoutout to my coupon) and had no problems! Staff were welcoming and friendly and competed service in a timely manner. Social distancing was in effect, staff were masked up, and there was a single chair for those who wanted to wait inside. The day I came, it was raining like cats and dogs, so that one seat was definitely appreciated! I received a call when my oil change was completed, and got a print out of recommended additional services, should I be interested in the future. The parking is in the back area, so you will have a walk a little way to get to the front entrance (which isn't really fun in pouring rain). Overall, I'd definitely recommend this NTB location! I pre-researched the "out of the door " price for four tires at this store's so-called website. My wife called for an appointment and was "upsold" the four tires by $200.00. I called them back and mentioned the price THAT I SAW on the web page. The clerk mentioned that he couldn't find it, the business had just changed hands and that the business didn't have an email address (I guess with that amount of savy I needn't worry that he/they might read this review. Anyway, I'm not particularly interested in cheaping out; I just am mostly disgusted that this is the way business is conducted by this "vendor". Noticed I had a slow leak in my tire so I came here as opposed to the dealership/local mechanic. I get in the door and the gentleman is already attempting to upsell me on 4 NEW tires without even laying eyes on the car/tires. My car was a former lease purchased last May with nearly new tires and less than 3k from me personally.... He examines the car in the parking lot (not even on a lift a this point) and documents my cars info (mileage, tread, ect.). After catching him up on the cars recent history (seldom driven, former lease, tread with PLENTY of milage to go), he sticks to his guns in the 4 new tires. No real reason other than "my car is 4 wheel drive." After informing him I'm in no position to purchase 4 new tires when all I came in for was a patch he gave my keys back. At worst I'd expect 2 new tires if one was too damaged to patch. He again tells me unless I'm getting 4 tires today, they won't be doing the work. Shocked but also amused at how predatory this has become, I take my keys back willingly and head to my local mechanic that actually puts it on a lift (finally). He immediately spots a small nail that's been causing the problem this whole time. We both have a good laugh, and he patches my tire in less time than the gentleman from NTB was talking. I won't mention his name since he was very friendly and attentive if anything. Seriously, NTB on Chillum Road earned 5 stars! I called to inquire abt fixing a flat. It was close to closing, so Manager Donya gave me an appointment and told me she would be off. I arrived and wasn't on the schedule, nor was it noted that I wouldn't be charged for the flat repair. I immediately wished Ms Donya was there, but Asst Manager Alex and Associate Mr. Charles stepped in, said no problem and my tire was patched in about an hour. I have only praises for Ms. Donya, counter staff and the service techs. She's very friendly; they're all professional and NTB's prices are competitive and never tries to upsell. Even if NTB is a bit farther from you, it's worth the trip bc you'll save yourself grief from potentially sub-par car & customer service. I've had mixed experiences with this place, but it is conveniently located, had good deals with coupons (online or sometimes with your receipt at local Safeways), and usually can change my oil the same day so I come back. I worked with the service manager today and he was great. They often up-sell services, and my visit today was no exception, but he was very pleasant and friendly. They have a waiting area, ample parking and are close to places that you can eat or hangout while you wait for your car. Their Sunday hours seem to change fairly regularly so I would give them a call if you are planning on dropping by in the afternoon. Their address is Yelp is correct, but the pin appears to be in the wrong place on the map. I've reported this issue, and I will update this review if it is fixed. read more

Not enough people who work the front end. Had & 8:30am appointment to drop off my car for tires. Got there & 3 ppl were in line in front of me. Took 30 mins for me to talk to the worker. Then he also had to answer the phone & run around doing other stuff. I didn't get out of there till 9:20 making me incredible late for work. When I returned at 12:30 to pick my car up there was another customer in there but no worker in sight. We stood around for at least 5 mins before anyone came to the front. I could see other workers walking around in the back. Took me 20 mins to pay & get my car. I would NOT come back here again for anything. They seriously need to hire more people. read more

Yes, I am a moron at times. I hit a curb and popped my front tire so it was not fixable. I needed a new tire. The problem was that it was almost 5 pm on a Saturday and I was preparing for an eight hour road trip the very next day! What auto repair shops are open on a Saturday? NTB! They stay open until 7pm. Also, they have Sunday hours starting at 8 am. I drove my car here using my spare donut wheel and luckily they weren't too busy. I bought a decent new tire and they replaced it and rotated my wheels for less than $150. Not an expense I needed, but that's what I get for driving into a curb! The guys here are friendly and didn't try to "sell me up" on a more expensive tire, or lure me in to getting service work done. I was there about 1 1/2 hours, but at least I made it in before closing time and I drove safely off ready for my eight hour trek to Detroit the next day. read more

The customer service here is as poor as many other reviews indicate. I brought my car in for a tire--a type I had already specified online when I made the appointment. I arrived at 11:30 and said that I would wait for the car and was told it would be finished around 1:30. The service was not completed until 2:30. In the time I waited for my service to be completed, I heard every other customer who checked in that their tires were bald (myself included, although one of my tires was 1 week old). I know that it's a tire place, but really? I highly doubt that every single customer had bald tires. I will not be returning to this location. read more

I love their waiting room; it's clean, comfy and does not smell. I've been here more than 3 times and always find a pot of hot coffee. Customer service is great. I was planning to buy tires and rims on eBay for $900 (without installation) but NTB were able to get everything (rims, tires, lug nuts and installation) for $742 that's a HUGE savings of $160! And you can't beat $20 oil change (book an appt on their website to get the discount). Big kudos to these guys for helping me save $$$!!!! read more

We had a flat tire on two different cars on consecutive days. We went to Carlton Simpson in the 1110 East West Hwy office and he was extremely friendly and helpful us in a very difficult situation. He assisted us in choosing the right tires for each car and managed to get each car ready on the next day. In addition, he was very knowledgable and educated us about how to take care of our tires in the future. I wish there were more customer service people in our lives like Carlton! The reason Im giving them a 1 is because I came in for a oil change scheduled at 12:30 today, I left my car and was told I would get a call in 2 hours when it was done,, So I left and walked around till 3:00pm still no call so I walked back to shop and was told they could not do it because I had a bad oil leak.. Bought 4 tires at NTB on 15609 Frederick Road, Derwood, MD for my Mazda 3 last year and paid the extra cost for lifetime balancing and rotation. Took car in to this location today for oil/filter plus balance and rotation. I called to see if car was ready. Employee said he was going to call me. Then went on to say I needed new spark plugs due to mileage along with new rear brakes and rotors. I asked him how much for these services. He replied $400 for spark plugs and $700 or more for rear brakes/rotors. I said that I will do that next time, NOT. I looked at my records and I just had new spark plugs a year ago along with new front brakes/rotors by a trusted mechanic. He would have told me then if new rear brake and rotors should be replaced next time I come in. Basically they try to up-sell you maintenance services that are not needed. I always take my cars to a mechanic in Rockville that I trust. I was just taking my Mazda 3 to NTB because of the free tire rotation and balancing. I may never go back again even for that. read more

If I could give 0 stars would be enough. Total rip off. My old tire was losing air. Bought a new tire from NTB and immediately it also lost air. I went back to find out what's going on. They told me that it was the stem and would cost me $200. I was able to get the price down to $120. Meanwhile I phoned Costco, they put me on hold. When Costco got back to me, they said it would cost $35. I quickly told NTB to cancel the job but they had started the work and would not cancel. Lesson learned, I will never return or refer business to NTB. read more

I will never again go to NTB. I have taken my car to the same NTB location for the past few years. This time they could not take off the oil filter on my car that they previously put on. They said it was on too tight. They already drained the oil so they put in new oil. They would only give me half off for the oil change which I thought was ridiculous and unfair. Ended up paying about $45 for it. Now I need to take my car somewhere else to remove the old filter. I no longer trust NTB. read more

At 1st I was really mad and kind of disappointed. I had calling on saturday, Oct 2nd to get an appointment. Called them and waited on hold for a while. Finally got someone, they said they would call me back in 15 minutes. And that there were PLENTY of spaces OPEN that day! (Wanted to get my car seen that day) Cool, I said, well... NOT COOL, ended up waiting 2 hours later, then ended up calling them back, to find out, everything even that day was all BOOKED up, PLUS that up coming week too!!!!! I was HEATED & Furious!!! Said they had an appointment available on Oct 7th ONLY. SO being how Desperate I was cuz I need my breaks fixed, an aliment done and rotation, I took the deal. Walked in early, was a BIT of a wait, but I registered my car and I was done for now. When picking my car up, their was a wait again. (but I didn't mind it). Towards the END I was helped by Rod Payne, who not ONLY one their AT the time, and was getting bashed by an upset customer ( who was clearly upset by him and me walking in) BUT he contained his COMPOSURE the whole time. He was Polite, Respectful and down right Nolegeble in his perfection!!! He was friendly and even understanding of the nasty woman that was mean to him. He was great toward me and helped me as fast and thoroughly as he could. The price was what I was told by him, and he got me out and fast! Even cracked a joke to make me smile. I understand the business is short staffed but he made my stay more pleasant in the end. Go somewhere else. I have given NTB multiple opportunities to impress me. I had two tires replaced there; they forgot to put the lug nuts back on after replacing the tires. I tried to get two more tires replaced there; they were out of stock. I had an oil change and had to wait three hours. What bothers me most about this place is that they try to sell you more things by scaring you. Two days ago, I went into NTB to have my oil changed. I watched as the clerk completely took advantage of an elderly lady. She was there to replace a tire, but she ended up purchasing two tires, an alignment, at least one other service, and a year-long protection plan. The guy brought out diagrams and showed the lady "what could happen" if she didn't get the services NTB recommended. When I got to the counter, another man tried to sell me an upgraded oil change ($50) and some other ridiculous nonsense for $100 extra. He gave me attitude when I explained I just wanted the basic oil change. Despite persistent "Thank you, but I just want an oil change," he continued to try to sell me more products! Frustrated, I asked him for my keys back and walked out. Bottom line: NTB is conveniently-located in downtown Silver Spring, but it's not worth the hassle. read more

I never thought I'd have to update my review because I never thought I would experience NTB's immense crappiness again but, things happen. Here is my tragic tale. My boyfriends headlight was out. He got it fixed and an oil change yesterday. Last night my boyfriend and I went to DC. We were pulled over because his headlight was out. It was then I turned to him in utter horror and said "I thought you got this fixed" and then he dropped the bombshell... He used the "credits" NTB had given him for my crappy experiences to get his car fixed. While the cop was running his info, we both had time to lament on his terrible decision, and ponder over if the oil was ever actually changed. Let's be real here, if you neglect to notice that you haven't fixed a headlight, you REALLY don't care. TLDR; 4th terrible experience, $100 fine, DONT GO TO NTB. I beg of you. No matter how desperate you are in need of car repair or a place that stays open late weeknights and on weekends, unless you want to waste your time just never, ever come here! I made the mistake to once again drop off my vehicle for a repair (as an act of desperation since my 4-wheeled buddy required a tow the shop)--and, despite being reassured over the phone that the mechanics will be able to fix the problem--this was again not the case. Thankfully for the sake of all involved, they did not charge me the $20 assessment fee--although I had the argument prepared since my car would need to be towed a second time now to a place that would be able to fulfill the needed work. Customer service and any similar glitches/inconveniences aside, this particular NTB does not perform the kinds of work that a regular car repair shop should be able to do without any problems (e.g., electrical work, problems with breaks, fuel pump replacement, etc.). Seriously! Who ever heard of a shop like this? Tow truck guy #2 thought that I was joking. During another visit, I was told that the machine needed to test a code was not available because one of the workers left and took it with. This place is, quite frankly, a disgrace. It has taken me a few months to write this review because my experience at NTB was so bad, I thought I needed to cool off before I wrote it. I think NTB might be fine for an oil change, but if they recommend any work on your car, I would drive as fast as your car can take you to the next shop. Also, of the tires I purchased, one went flat in one short week. I had my oil changed there in August and they told me that I needed new brake pads, considering the age of the car, I agreed and they went to install them. First, I get a call that I also need new rotors, OK I say. When I went to pick up my car- they say it isn't ready b/c a caliper has seized and they were waiting to see if I wanted them to order a part. I will spare the readers the whole entire sage, but the car was not repaired correctly, I had to go back 6 times because there was a mistake connecting the brake lines after the work was completed. Not only was this an annoyance, but initially they told me there was no problem and I lost all my brake fluid in one day, which is a serious safety issue. read more

I went to NTB on East-West Hwy in Silver Spring this past weekend to replace a tire (casualty of a pothole). They replaced the tire as I asked but also pressured me to purchase a brake job, saying that my pads were very low. I declined the brake job and took my car to Hannigan's today. BEWARE!!!! This is the most awful customer service I have EVER receieved. They are lucky yelp doesn't have less than a 1 star option! 1. The manager is a NASTY NASTY man. He overcharged me by $20 and did not apologize. When I brought this to his attention he simply took my receipt and corrected the mistake without saying a word. This was after I begged him to look at the receipt to see his mistake to begin with! 2. It took 4.5 hours to do an OIL CHANGE! Initially I was told 2 hours. 3. They told me they would call me when my car was finished but never did. I had to make frequent stops to find out it would be one more hour, one more hour, one more hour!!! No courtesy call! 4. When I came to check on my car for the third time, the manager was nowhere to be found. I waited in the lobby close to 20 minutes for him to grace me with his appearance. Once again, no apology. 4. Ladies, please beware. Go get a second opinion whenever they mention any kind of work that needs to be done on your car. I JUST got 4 new tires for my car. They told me they needed to be replaced. Odd since they are only 5 months old and I barely drive. I went elsewhere for a second opinion and they looked at me like I had a third eye. Turns out my tires are in perfect shape. NTB employees are a bunch of con artist. 5. TIP: Go across the street for your tires. There is a shop that sales new and used tires for a much cheaper rate ($40 difference for each of my tires) and much better service. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST! read more

Straight up scam artists. I noticed I had a slow leak in one of my tires before going to NTB. I was driving by and decided to go in and get it patched or plugged. After arriving and waiting for a few minutes, a technician checked out the tire in question. I followed him and we partially identified it as being a puncture in the tread or grooves. Should've been an easy fix. After waiting for some time, I was approached by an employee and he informed me that a nail punctured the sidewall. The technician and I both inspected the tire prior to be taken into the shop, and we definitely would've seen a nail sticking out of the sidewall. Stay AWAY!!!! read more

Terrible place. We took our car in for a normal oil change. Days later, we started experiencing performance issues. Over time it became worse so we took It in to another shop. They told us that the air filter was not installed properly by NTB. One of the simplest jobs yet they messed that up. Needless to say, I'm not going back there again. read more

I went in at my appointment time of 10am. First of all, the front desk doesn't get to me for 20 minutes then when he finally does it takes so long to get checked in. I only needed 4 tires taken off and new ones put back on. He tells me to come back around 12:30-1pm. So my daughter and I took a walk and killed some time until 1pm. When I returned I was told that they hadn't taken my car in yet because a tractor trailer had blocked my car in and it just left. So I had to wait another hour and a half. But they had my keys and the truck was delivering their stuff. Why didn't they move one or the other to make sure they could get my car done? This was the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. Don't go there unless you want to spend your whole day off there. If I treated my patients like this, I would be fired on the spot. read more

So my first experience with this location was good enough for me to give them a 2nd chance. I went in needing tires for my 2014 WRX. This time I dealt with Carl. Wow!! Talk about a personality. This guy is friendly, funny and he knows his stuff. I planned on buying 4 new tires and expected to spend around $900. To bad I needed new brakes and rotors which brought my bill to $1500. When the price got a little up there Carl looked for sales and promos and made it work for me. Carl is a great guy. Ask for him for a great experience. read more

I visited NTB on E West Hwy because brakes on my 2016 Nissan Sentra with 15,800 miles were squeaking. After inspecting, it was recommended I get new front brake pads, calipers sliders, and new brake fluid. The original cost of this was $409.05 (after negotiations on a ridiculous original price of 585.00). That outrageous price should have been my first clue I needed to go somewhere else. Anyway, I had the calipers, brake pads and fluids replaced and asked to keep the original parts taken off the car. When I picked my car back up, after a day it still was making the same squeaking sound. I had the work reviewed by two different shops who investigated the original break pads and both confirmed I didn't need new brake pads, nor brake fluid. Thankfully I kept my old brakes so I was able to request a refund, but NEVER will I ever go back to this shop bc they sell things that aren't even needed and think they can get away with it. SAVE yourself time and energy and leave them off the list. Also make sure yall are putting your opinions on their actual website as well! read more

I went to this silver Spring location . They charged me for alignment and was told to come back another day to finish the work after paying for new tires . The tires were not balanced a all said and done I had to complain to corporate and take it to NTB in Colombia maryland to get it balanced and some what aligned . My brakes warped a week later which were only replaced 10k ago as soon as they replaced my tires I notice a week later my steering wheel vibrating when braking. In the end I paid for life time balance of one year alignment and ended up taking it to the Chevy dealer where I purchased the Camaro to have them align and balance it again about a year later . I took it to dealer because they never really got it right. Also they did some damage on my rims which I Owned 5 years and they scratched them . Avoid this place I can't speak for all NTB but never again will I come to this location . read more

Place is AWFUL! I had a 10am appointment for new tires. Showed up at 9:45am. Every single employee was outside so I checked to make sure they opened at 9 and not 10am, it's 10am. Checked in by 10am, said be 2 hours (which in itself seems long) They didn't pull my truck into garage until 10:30, only 3 cars and none being worked on. At 11:40am I asked if truck will be done at 12, manager says hold on let me check. Then another worker comes over and says they can't get lug nuts off and that it'll be another $150 to get new ones and ANOTHER 45 minutes until them come. So they first thing you take off for tires, lug nuts took 1 hour and 40 minutes to discover, hahaha what a joke and that was my first and def LAST time to NTB. read more

Nearly 7 hours for an oil change! That is quite unreasonable. I called after 4 hrs and they hadn't even touched my car yet. I was patient because I live close, but I didn't think an oil change will kill my entire day. I will not return. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVIVE. I got 3+1 tire whatever that is. The tire behind the driver seat was completely flat less than 2 months. The tire in the driver seat is nearly flat also. I called this location and have to wait 15 mins to book an appointment. Ask them to check and how long it will take. Can't remember how long but the service is definitely longer then what they told(i waited around 3 hours). They said nothing wrong with the tires, and guess what the same tire behind the driver seat was flat again less than 2 weeks as well as the tire at the driver seat. Called them the third time and there was a guy told me wait. I SAID YES and WAITED 30 mins so I hanged up and called them again and a guy answer immediately and told me to WAIT AGAIN. This time I waited 15 mins. I have never written a bad review, but this is unacceptable. read more

Staff was extremely friendly!!!! I made an appointment for 11;30 and they respected that time and it took them an hour to complete the oil change. They called to suggest additional services. I was very happy that they were not so pushy about the additional fix-ups as I initially told them that my husband takes care of them. Many places out there will keep pushing it on you, and I really liked that they respected my initial comment and did not push it on me. When I got my key back, baby pink key cover got dirty, but the service staff cleaned it off real nice for me. Overall, love coming here to get my oil changed. My car had a flat. AAA changed the tire and my daughter took the car to NTB Silver Spring. My daughter waited 45 minutes only to be told that she needed an appointment. Coming back the next day for her appointment, she spends 2 hours waiting only to be told they needed a lock nut and she needed to come back the next day. She comes back day 3-and, surprise surprise, another 2 hour wait. They exploited her inexperience and made her pay in advance, and sold all kinds of extra nonsense. Horrible customer service. AVIOD this place at all cost! This NTB like the others in the DMV is poorly ran. I truly believe it's business model is founded on poor customer service with lack of integrity. From the Manager, Asst Mgr. to the desk workers they need to be fired. Stay clear from the tire warranty. I highly recommend Radial Tire which is 10 minutes away in Silver Spring.
