My thermostat is sticking so went to replace it myself. Frozen bolt and didn't want to strip it. Called Nu and they quoted me $150. Little steep but ok. Asked how much to just get the bolt loose as I have the thermostat . Didn't know so brought it down. Start to write up order explaining situation and old man that doesn't speak English very well asked if bolt was broke. Told him no just stuck. He said they can't help and asked me 5 times if it bolt was broke. No. Again told me they can't help without even looking at it. If they can't help with a stuck bolt or thermostat I question the whole operation. I have work vehicles, off road vehicles and spend a lot on maintenance. Won't be spending it there. Absolutely a great experience using Nu Auto Repair!!! Came here for a clacking sound on my F150. Without hooking it up and just opening the hood they were able to diagnose and later give me a price on fixing it. Next day or so, got on the job and had it fixed the following day! Very professional, friendly service that was nice to experience. No price gouging or elaborate dog and pony show here to run up the price. Just absolute great repair service. I've been taking my cars to nu's for awhile and thought they were pretty decent. I told my grandson to take his honda civic there because it was running hot. They told him that he needed a radiator and charged him $213.00. Less than a week later it was running hot again, he took it back and they told him something else that cost him $415.00. needed some quick fixes before a long drive so I looked for the closest shop with good reviews. they did a very good and fast job! they were honest with the problems that needed fixing and with their pricing. I waited just over an hour for an oil change, front head light fix, and AC repair. they gave full transparency that they'd just check what was wrong with the AC and try to fix it and in the end I just needed some freon. there wasn't any gouging or making up problems to get more money, and I'm very pleased with how well they did overall. definitely coming back here if I need to in the future! read more

I don't know why it's taken me so long to write a review about Nu Auto. I've been coming here for at least 15 years now. They are HONEST. I trust them wholeheartedly, more than I trust some of my family members. I was lured into my local dealership by a shady bait and switch technique (that's a whole other story). While there, I asked about why the brake light was coming on sporadically and they said I needed a brake fluid exchange and quoted me the price to have it done. I immediately called my guys at NU AUTO and they quoted a price $140 less so I took it to them. Once I arrived they checked it, said I didn't need an exchange just needed more brake fluid, topped it off and sent me on my way, no charge. This is not the first time they have told me I didn't need something that was recommended by another mechanic. And also not the first time they've helped me out and sent me on my way free of charge. I refer them to EVERYONE I know in need of car service and everyone has had the same experience with them. read more

My car had been acting up for some time...thought it was the battery but it turned out to be the starter. Had it towed into the shop and Andy jumped in the car and started my car with a lil' trick he used and a big smile. "It's the starter you can pick it up tomorrow morning." Since I am new to SD, and a single female without much of a social support system, I was wary about taking my car in for long-overdue repairs. I was going to take it to a place on Adams that had stellar ratings, but then I thought I'd check out Nu's since it's right down the street from my place. Based on ratings I read here, I gave it a shot and I had a great experience. I walked in at about 1:00 and they had my car up on the rack within 30 mins even though the parking lot was packed with other vehicles. This was an excellent surprise because I was expecting them to tell me to leave it overnight. The repairs cost much less than I had anticipated and they had me out of there in about 3 hours, which has never happened before with me walking into a place in the middle of the afternoon. While I was waiting, I had conversations with two older women who both had wonderful things to say about Nu's. An elder African-American lady said she's been coming for over 20 years and loves them. That in itself is testimonial enough for me! They zipped through the people who just needed oil changes extremely quickly. Fast, friendly, and efficient. Great place recommended by my aunt. I pulled in and they hopped right into my car and drive it around. Came back and said the test drive was solid but wanted to look at the brake pads. But other than that everything was good. After inspecting the brake pad they recommended replacement and one hour later swapped out new ones. Only $300.00 for all four and labor. read more

One of the fastest and most reasonable mechanics I've found in San Diego. I will still drive (or get towed) all the way from La Jolla to Nu to have him service my car. Never overcharges for labor and does great work. If you can get your vehicle in the lot by 9am, he can typically finish repairs by noon unless he has to order some special parts. They're not great with electrical stuff, but they can refer you to a specialist if need be. A+++ Highly recommend! read more

Really pleased with this place. My check engine light was flashing so I called up another place that wanted to charge 100 bucks to do the diagnostic reading. This place said they'd do it for 60. I came in the next morning and they were able to do it right away and said that it was a problem with the fuel injector and it would be about 200. About a half hour later the guy came back and said it was just a loose wire and charged me 80, which is less than the cost of the other place just to run the diagnostic. read more

Nu Auto Repair is the ONLY mechanic I trust. I have been taking my cars there since I moved near there in 1991. I live several miles away now and they are still the only mechanics I will take my cars to, and the only repair shop I will recommend to my friends. I am convinced that you could walk in with a radiator cap and he could have everything underneath it replaced by 3pm, and at a very fair price. I have only had to leave my car there overnight once, and that was for a complete engine rebuild. Every other time, the car was ready by 3pm. One of the greatest luxuries in my life has been to have a mechanic that I can trust implicitly. read more
