For my ice cream lovers.. let me be the first to introduce you to my new favorite indulging spot. Nu Ice and Drinks specializes in desserts, but more specifically "shaved ice" a.k.a "shaved snow." It's like nothing I have ever had. Just imagine layered thinly place ice cream shaved to perfection.. After 10 hours of prep for each batch, what starts out as what looks like a gigantic ice cube become shaved ice right before your eyes. There are many different flavors to choose from plus a variety of toppings. I ordered the sea-salt caramel shaved ice with Oreo bits and brownie bites as my toppings. The amazing thing about my dessert was how real the taste was. I could taste the caramel in every bite. Also, a friend of mine ordered the green tea shaved ice with mangos, strawberries and leches as her toppings.. The green tea flavor was precise and, of course fresh, fruit is always a win. It's a simple healthier alternative to the typical ice-cream dessert. I'll be back to try some of the other flavors for sure! read more

This is the best coconut smoothie with almond milk I've ever had! I never knew someone could make this smoothie taste this good with this kind of milk! Last time I had a smoothie with almond milk, it was good but lacked in flavor. Not this time! Love it! Also, their bathroom was quite clean. I am so excited that this opened up near rice! Finally we have a delicious tapioca place that's somewhat closeby and infinitely better than Teahouse. I ordered their green milk tea, and I'm happy to say that it was absolutely delicious; almost as good as kung fu tea. I will definitely be studying here from now on! They also have a large selection of drinks (slushies, smoothies, juices, teas etc) not to mention their specialty snowflake ice. Everyone is familiar with Nu cafe in Bellaire, right? Well while that location is a focus on the (delicious) shaved ice, this location is more about the drinks! Which are amazing. First, they have almond milk, do I need to repeat that, they have almond milk!! While I did enjoy the tapioca place that used to be located here, I am glad Nu Ice is here! Pretty cool place here. Lots of different options and flavors. They have a rewards program to get free drinks! They have a good payment system with a screen for you to see your rewards and redeem them. Gives you some visibility on how close you are to your free drink. The inside looks pretty cool. They have a lot of seating. I love the benches. There are games that you can bust out and play too. They have that patch of fake grass on the wall which is fun. I like the look and feel of the place. We decided to try this place on our latest visit to Houston. It's on the same shopping strip as Juice Box on the newer side of Bellaire. So plus for location. Unfortunately parking took a while, it's a very popular location. We came on a Saturday afternoon. Their specialty drinks menu caught my eye and I got the half and half- milk tea with flan/pudding with boba. So delicious! Not overly sweet and any drink with pudding is always good. Pretty cool place to check out! I ordered the Rose Milk tea with tapioca and it was very refreshing! They are known for their shaved ice and have various options of desserts and speciality drinks. I recommend trying this place out as a good dessert place after a meal or to just hang out with friends. Their prices are pretty average compared to other teahouse or shaven ice places. Glad there's a NU Ice close by the galleria rather than having to drive all the way to Bellaire. Although it's quite smaller than the one in Chinatown. I kind of went at a bad time cause there was no space to sit at all. Literally every spot was taken. Some people who came in after us, they had to stand and eat their shaved ice. After waiting a while to find a table, I realized that the tables were sticky. It wasn't a great feeling to touch the table while eating our dessert. I guess on a good note, they do a rewards system called belly. So if you're a regular, you get points accumulated and can get free toppings, upgrade size and many more. The Paradise Tea here is my favorite non-dairy bubble tea/drink option in Houston. So fruity and refreshing! The boba here was a little dated when I went on Sunday afternoon around 2pm but the flavor isn't bad. Nu Ice also carries a lot of different sinkers. My husband surprised me with a trip to Nu Ice! I love ice cream and this was a very different, unique version. It's like shaved ice cream, so it's really light and airy, but still creamy and delicious. I had coconut with fresh mango, mango sauce, and strawberry poppers - it was very refreshing. My husband tried chocolate with chocolate sauce, marshmallows, and m&m's - also very good. The service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is nice, lots of seating, but it's a little crowded with furniture. The only weird thing I noticed is that it smelled really bad inside the shop - kind of like rotten trash. Which I noticed they had durian on the menu, so I wondered if that was the smell....or they just needed to take the trash out. I've been craving bubble tea for months. I decided to try this place out. Didn't try their shaved ice cream, but their bubble tea is way too sweet. Got mango watermelon juice with strawberry bubbles. The drink was sweet, had to much mango purée, no taste of watermelon, and the strawberry bubble didn't even taste like strawberries. The person working was nice though. Depending on the day and time that you go, I know it can pretty difficult to find parking in this lot. I always keep that in mind, that's why I go during the down time. Boo thang and I had to get dessert after dinner on Thursday around 930pm. We were in the area and had to roll in because we love shaved ice. We easily found parking since it was kinda late. Do y'all know that Yelp offers dine-in cash back?! Whaaaat?! I get a certain percentage back when I linked my card to yelp. So every time I use that card at the affiliated restaurants with Yelp, a certain percentage is then accumulated at the of the month and credits back to me. At Nu's cafe, I got 7% cash back and 1 free ice topping for my shaved ice with check-in :) The cashiers were pleasant and efficient. I must say they were generous with the amount of ice given for the "hill" size. I rather go to this location rather then the Bellaire one. Customer service is just better here. All in all, Green tea shaved ice with condensed milk was delicious. Fruits were fresh. Tables were clean.
