Pretty cool concept! The taste and texture is where it's at! I tried a sea salt caramel with lychee poppers, Oreos and condensed milk--and enjoyed every bit! I got it to go so that hubby and I could share it in the quiet of our car while our baby slept, because it gets pretty loud inside during peak hours, which is usually at nighttime. You order by filling out a little paper at the front with a list of items you can add on. I got the mountain size, which I don't recommend if you're getting it to go, only because they don't seem to have the proper container for it. It's not like I got a dozen toppings either, but the thing just seemed like a big mish-mash. Was disappointed that it wasn't "picture-worthy"... but at least the flavor and size didn't let me down! read more

This is an awesome place to come with friends if you want some good dessert and a place to chill. You can customize your shaved ice any way you want and honestly every flavor I tried was delicious. I really liked the vanilla flavor ice with condensed milk and sides of Oreos and the strawberry balls. You can get a small and share with 2 people and totally be satisfied. Portions are HUGE!!! First time ever trying this place and this type of ice. This little store was popping today . And it was amazing . Loved the atmosphere of this place . Kinda small but just the right size. Overdue review. I have been knowing about this place since last year.. Not sure how I've delayed my review! Not much I can say that hasn't been said. They have plenty of flavors which I like. Prices are reasonable. Get the taro with condensed milk! One bad thing is the parking lot on Friday nights and Saturday nights. The spots are small so people are prone to hitting your car when opening their doors. It gets extremely packed on weekends. Not only nu ice but other places in the shopping center. Ehh this place is not my cup of tea. There are plenty of other places that I would much rather prefer. I didn't try their shaved ice here which I probably should have but the green tea with red bean and flan caught my attention in the window. So that's what I wanted. My mind was set on that. They didn't have red bean but the guy recommended the honey boba. So it took forever for them to make my drinks. They made other people's orders before mine and when I got my drink, they called it something else. I had to ask them what was in it and they told me just boba and the green tea. They forgot my flan but added it in on the bottom and pouring my drink into a new cup with the honey boba on top. The drink wasn't anything fantastic and for them to charge me almost 8$ is absurd especially for the area. It will be awhile until I try this place again but if I do I will definitely pass on the drinks and try their shaved ice. read more

First time being at this location and of course the place met our expectations to the one on bellaire (chinatown). Interior is clean and have comfortable seating areas. We ordered the green tea with mochi, mango, and condensed milk, and a Nu milk tea. Tastes great! Presentation is still amazing and the consistency of the shaved ice is just worth one bite after another. History

Established in 2010.

In 2010, Nu Cafe opened its doors to the public. We started off as a full-fledged restaurant with rice and noodle dishes, along with drinks and shaved ice. We were the first and original food establishment to serve Snowflake Ice in Texas. Shortly after we opened, people flocked from all over Houston, Dallas, Austin, and even other states to try our Nu Snowflake Ice, food, and creative drinks. After three years of insane lines, we decided to stop selling hot foods so we could expand on our shaved ice and drinks. In 2013, we opened up a second location, Nu Ice & Drinks, on the corner of Westheimer and Fountain View to serve our customers near the Galleria.

I recently visited Nu with a group of friends, and we all had a fantastic experience! The cafe is the perfect size - cozy and comfortable without feeling cramped or crowded. What really stood out to us, though, was the customer service. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. They were happy to answer any questions we had about the menu and made excellent recommendations. And speaking of the menu, the portions were absolutely perfect. Not too big, not too small - just right. We tried a few different drinks and pastries, and everything was delicious. Overall, I highly recommend Nu. Great place with delicious drinks and shaved ice! A must try if you're new to Houston or are just a boba fanatic. It seems like every time I come back to Houston a few times a year, the menu at Nu Ice is always changing. They're always adding some new and exciting drink that you honestly can't find elsewhere. It's gotten me out of the hum drum repetition of simply ordering a milk tea, or whatever you may normally get, and to try something that I could never get at any other boba cafe. They call it shaved ice, but it is more like ribbons of light, smooth, delicious "ice cream". It isn't as tooth achingly sweet or as heavy as ice cream. They do actually shave it on to your plate. My favorite is the coconut. It is delicious.They have unique toppings. Lots of yogurt shops have these toppings now, but they have even more variety. They also have a huge variety of drinks with or without tapioca. My kids love it and beg me to take them. Great place to go and friendly people. You have to try it! read more

Nu Ice and Drinks is a sweet hangout spot to get your fix for flavored ice and drinks! The staff is very welcoming when you first walk in and more than happy to assist you if you have any questions about any of their menu items. This place is AWESOME! Everything on the menu sounded so good to try but my heart is always set on the watermelon slushy. They have so many different options and most of them are "guilt free". Nu Ice & Drinks is definitely one of the best spots to stop by for boba tea! They also offer shaved ice cream, which is just as delicious. One of my personal favorites here is the Taro Milk Tea, it's perfectly sweet and always hits the spot. Their menu has an incredible variety of drinks, so there's always something new to try. The customer service is excellent, and the staff is consistently quick when it comes to preparing drinks. I've never had to wait long, which makes the experience even better. read more

What a great experience we had at Nu Ice & Drinks! I finally checked their shaved ice out and there couldn't have been anything better! My wife ordered strawberries and iced vanilla and loved it. Their tapioca is cool! Not to mention their tapioca green tea, it blew my mind. I would definitely recommend this gem for those who like trying something new/unique. Without a doubt, this place has some of the most refreshing and delicious frozen treats I've tasted in a long time! The shaved ice is prepared to order, and it's literally layered with delicious, thin blankets of soft, fruity ice. And you get a lot! The staff here is super friendly. I love that they will customize drinks for you that aren't on the menu. I always get lychee black tea half sweet with lychee jellies. If it's your first time, the ribbon ice does not disappoint and it's what they're known for. My favorite flavor is the almond ribbon ice with strawberries. Potentially awesome. We were in the area and wanted ice cream. Houston had bouts of flooding so most of the shoppes were closed :( found that this one was open so we came. But when we went they were out of two things which happen to be out order for some reason. Would try again but I do live more than an hour away so visiting again seems unlikely. I thought it was delicious. I wish they let you order two flavors on one plate like their competitors at rice village do. I enjoy mixing flavors. I will be back whenever they allow that. I'm a fan of shaved icecream and when I found another place I was ecstatic. The inside was aesthetically pleasing. Their shaved ice is really good and flavorful. I especially loved the vanilla milk ice with mochi! I haven't tried every flavor yet but I'll definitely be back to try some of the more unique flavors I also tried the Vietnamese ice coffee, which was really strong just the way I like it. read more

The lavender is real, not a syrup, and the only sweetness comes from the honey. I'd definitely come back for their lunch deal ($10 for a banh mi, milk tea, and chips).
