This is my favorite place to get shaved ice! I love the green tea and mango flavors. This location has plenty of indoor seating and is good for hanging out with friends. I decided to try something different and get milk green tea with tapioca. It was slightly disappointing, the drink was too sweet and tapioca was not cooked right. read more

Great stop for a light dessert. The shaved ice combos are super tasty and light. We ordered the vanilla with Oreos and strawberry off the popular combos and then custom made a taro ice mountain. Both were tasty but the nod went to the Taro flavor. One criticism would be that the table was dirty when we sat down. read more

This place is my favorite! The drinks are consistently delicious. Their specialty drinks are more like dessert drinks but costs as much as a regular bubble tea from other places. I love coming here and trying a different drink every time. The staff are always friendly and give good recommendations if you're indecisive. I'm glad I decided to try something nu ;) read more

Pretty similar to the one in Chinatown. Very nice and chill dessert place. I went around 9pm on Friday and it's not very crowded (versus not even being able to find a seat at times in the Chinatown location). The shaved ice is pretty great! I got a mountain green tea shaved ice with condensed milk, mango, red bean, and honey boba! So yum! I got the extra topping with a check in on yelp (: I was planning to study here (very unsuccessfully), but the location has outlets all over. Compared to the teahouses near the med center, I would prefer this location. Might update after trying the tea, but with boba balls that tasty, I have high hope for the tea itself. read more

I'll just give the rundown: PROS: - wide variety of drink selections from smoothies to milk teas, shaved ice flavors & toppings, and specialties - Very affordable prices! It's just $7 for a big "mountain" of shaved ice which can serve about 4 people quite well (also comes with two toppings) - Up-to-date and fresh facility - feels very clean and new, booths are in good shape as are the tables - Drinks and shaved ice are very tasty and will certainly satisfy that sweet tooth. - Friendly staff that serve you fast! I always make light conversation with the workers and can easily tell they're happy and welcoming (which is always refreshing). CONS: - ...I'll get back to you -- I can't think of any. In general, this is a very fresh and affordable place to go to in order to grab a nice drink or tasty dessert. Would certainly come back here often (I mean, I already have). read more

I love shaved ice and this place did not disappoint. The flavor is light (a great balance) and the texture is fluffy. I got the green tea with boba and flan. I think next time I'll skip the condensed milk drizzle. Boba was soft but not mushy, perfectly chewy and is lightly sweetened. The environment is welcoming, clean, and modern. The cashier/shaved ice maker girl was nice. The price is a bit on the higher end of normal (large was 8.36), but they don't allow coin tips (only whole numbers) for electronic tips. Not a big deal. The large is a great size for 2 people. Overall, I'd definitely come back and try out the difference flavors. read more

I love how different this is from ice cream. Ice cream give me a sort of a blah feeling halfway through but I can eat a hill of this and it's just perfect. I love the coconut with mango combo I recommend this place before ice cream any day. Oh and another plus is that the staff is great! read more

The ice and drinks were really good. However as stated by others the staff didn't wear their mask properly. Nose wasn't covered and we were really concerned about that. Also staff wasn't friendly or caring. We waited about 5 min for our ice. When we then went to ask about it we were told that it sat on the counter all the time without we being notified about it. As a result our ice mountain was half molten by then and collapsed all over on the table when first touched by my spoon... :-( read more

I don't have that much shaved ice type dessert experience, so my review may be very naive, but this place is awesome! The one downside is the incredibly long lines and wait times that you have to deal with if it's busy, which it usually is it seems. They have a decent amount of seating inside, just a couple tables outside, but they get so busy that you may have trouble finding a place to sit. In that case just get your shaved ice to go (problem solved)! There is a yelp check in offer of one free topping! Don't forget to use that! The amount of shaved ice you get is insane. I don't know how people finish the mountain size on their own honestly. I'd recommend starting out with the hill if you're on your own and working your way up! If two people are sharing then just go for the mountain, as it comes with two toppings. I've only tried the green tea flavor so far, which I would highly recommend. It's not too sweet and is pretty much perfect for those that enjoy the natural sweetness of green tea without any added sugar on top. For the hill size you get one free topping and there are several to choose from. We also tried the almond milk bubble tea, which my husband liked a lot though it did have a little too much ice in it. I'm sure one could ask for less ice and it would be fine if you're a slow drinker and you don't want your drink to be getting more and more diluted as you're drinking it. So my only wish is for the service to be faster but even with that this place is worth a try if you're around the area and want something sweet. read more

I come here a lot w/ my girlfriend as it's perfect for an after dinner treat. I always get the strawberry snow, so I can only speak on that and it always tastes consistently great!! We usually get a little more condensed milk added half way (when it runs out) and they always have gratuitously given us more; however, they wanted to charge me .75 more for a little more... and then when they decided to give us more, one of the employees repetitively reminded the other about our restrictions-- and we definitely just got a few, small squirts more. Besides the last time, it has always been an enjoyable time. Great, cool taste especially when it's hot outside, but a little more on the pricey side for shaved ice cream. I loved the shaved Ice Cream, it is light and fluffy like a cream snow cone. They have two sizes hill and mountain, the hill is enough for two people.You get your choice of ad on and drizzles. The milk tea is a hit or miss, depending on flavor. They truly do have the best tapioca in tea. There is an explanation on the wall about the process. My personal favorite combination in the salted caramel hill (the mountain size is far too large for two people) with sweetened condensed milk, bananas, strawberries, and Oreos. This was a wonderful treat and it is not expensive at all. I highly recommend this treat to anyone who enjoys ice cream. I will return to this place. I have been here too many times to count and figured it was time to actually write them a review. Firstly, they make excellent Thai tea. As a lover of Thai tea (try it out everywhere it is offered), I can say that they are easily top three on the level of thai teas I've had. Secondly they don't skimp on the ingredients, no matter what I add to the drink (normally flan or boba). Third, they always make it fresh - it is never a weird old taste and it is never watered down. My friends and family also often accompany me here for our late night tea runs or shaved ice cravings and we have had most of the drinks/shaved ice combos between us at this point. Everything we have had tasted excellent and was usually made and delivered in a timely manner. The only reason I am leaving out a single star is that sometimes they skimp on the condensed milk on another ingredient we add to our shaved ice. It just doesn't taste the same when that occurs. And it has happened often enough that I don't think it's an operator error any longer - they must be told to use less of the ingredients by the owners. The service has always been excellent and the place is usually very clean. The seating is pretty comfortable and it's good for both small groups and large groups as well as to study in. Parking is readily available usually. All in all, a great place for tapioca and shaved ice - one of my favs in the city! read more

Established in 2010.

In 2010, Nu Cafe opened its doors to the public. We started off as a full-fledged restaurant with rice and noodle dishes, along with drinks and shaved ice. We were the first and original food establishment to serve Snowflake Ice in Texas. Shortly after we opened, people flocked from all over Houston, Dallas, Austin, and even other states to try our Nu Snowflake Ice, food, and creative drinks. After three years of insane lines, we decided to stop selling hot foods so we could expand on our shaved ice and drinks. In 2013, we opened up a second location, Nu Ice & Drinks, on the corner of Westheimer and Fountain View to serve our customers near the Galleria.

Can we regulate the ice and sugar?like request to put half sugar and half ice

For almost all drinks you can do half sugar, regular sugar or extra sweet. Also half ice is an option avails le too!

Currently mango sorbet is the only completely fairy free option. If it's a lactose concern however, all our shaved ice flavors are very light and since we started selling ice, we have not had anyone complain of any adverse reactions. Thank you and…

Our nu ice does contain a bit of dairy. We have not had any complaints of people reacting to our nu ice. We also have a mango sorbet flavor which contains zero dairy!

First time visitor. Fun experience for the family. As we walked into the establishment, people were on their laptops. It kind of reminded me of an internet cafe because of all the electronic devices and young people. We began to ask questions regarding the toppings but staff didn't seem to engage in conversation or have any suggestion of what menu items tend to be popular. The woman just handed us a 3x5 menu selection card. This helps reduce any errors and expedites the process. Our order can our real quick. It think the shaved ice is presented better than it actually taste. I have yet to try there drinks which I will in due time. We decided to sit outside because there was a foul oder in the place. I recently visited Nu with a group of friends, and we all had a fantastic experience! The cafe is the perfect size - cozy and comfortable without feeling cramped or crowded. What really stood out to us, though, was the customer service. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. They were happy to answer any questions we had about the menu and made excellent recommendations. And speaking of the menu, the portions were absolutely perfect. Great place with delicious drinks and shaved ice! A must try if you're new to Houston or are just a boba fanatic. It seems like every time I come back to Houston a few times a year, the menu at Nu Ice is always changing. They're always adding some new and exciting drink that you honestly can't find elsewhere. It's gotten me out of the hum drum repetition of simply ordering a milk tea, or whatever you may normally get, and to try something that I could never get at any other boba cafe. They call it shaved ice, but it is more like ribbons of light, smooth, delicious "ice cream". It isn't as tooth achingly sweet or as heavy as ice cream. They do actually shave it on to your plate. My favorite is the coconut. It is delicious.They have unique toppings. Lots of yogurt shops have these toppings now, but they have even more variety. They also have a huge variety of drinks with or without tapioca. My kids love it and beg me to take them. Great place to go and friendly people. You have to try it! read more

Nu Ice & Drinks is definitely one of the best spots to stop by for boba tea! They also offer shaved ice cream, which is just as delicious. One of my personal favorites here is the Taro Milk Tea, it's perfectly sweet and always hits the spot. Their menu has an incredible variety of drinks, so there's always something new to try. The customer service is excellent, and the staff is consistently quick when it comes to preparing drinks. I've never had to wait long, which makes the experience even better. read more

What a great experience we had at Nu Ice & Drinks! I finally checked their shaved ice out and there couldn't have been anything better! My wife ordered strawberries and iced vanilla and loved it. Their tapioca is cool! Not to mention their tapioca green tea, it blew my mind. I would definitely recommend this gem for those who like trying something new/unique. Without a doubt, this place has some of the most refreshing and delicious frozen treats I've tasted in a long time! The shaved ice is prepared to order, and it's literally layered with delicious, thin blankets of soft, fruity ice. And you get a lot! The staff here is super friendly. I love that they will customize drinks for you that aren't on the menu. I always get lychee black tea half sweet with lychee jellies. If it's your first time, the ribbon ice does not disappoint and it's what they're known for. My favorite flavor is the almond ribbon ice with strawberries. Potentially awesome. We were in the area and wanted ice cream. Houston had bouts of flooding so most of the shoppes were closed :( found that this one was open so we came. But when we went they were out of two things which happen to be out order for some reason. Would try again but I do live more than an hour away so visiting again seems unlikely. I thought it was delicious. I wish they let you order two flavors on one plate like their competitors at rice village do. I enjoy mixing flavors. I will be back whenever they allow that. I'm a fan of shaved icecream and when I found another place I was ecstatic. The inside was aesthetically pleasing. Their shaved ice is really good and flavorful. I especially loved the vanilla milk ice with mochi! I haven't tried every flavor yet but I'll definitely be back to try some of the more unique flavors I also tried the Vietnamese ice coffee, which was really strong just the way I like it. read more
