Jim absolutely saved me tonight. Around 7:45 pm, I accidentally shattered the street facing window in the front of my house. Nu star had put a glass enclosure around a shower when we first moved in in 2014, so when I recognized the name of the company, I gave them a call, intending to leave a message. I expected that they would call me back tomorrow and hopefully be able to come and replace the window. I was very surprised when Jim answered the phone on his "emergency line". I told him what had happened, sent him some pictures, and I was blown away when he told me he could actually fix the window tonight. Of course, this came at a premium, but given the option, I took it. Two hours later, the window is replaced, good as new. I could not ask for better, more professional service. Because of this, when I had to tell my wife that I had broken the window, in the same breath I was able to tell her that I had already arranged to have it replaced and that it was happening right away. Called to get a quote to get a few window sealed fixed and was told he charges $250 to give an estimate. I was ok with the charge and had him come out. When the quote was written he stated on it I had only 72 hours to accept that price. If I was told that in the beginning I would have never paid to have someone give me an estimate with such a short window to decide. Thankfully I went with my gut and I called several window companies and they came out for a free estimate and the cost to replace was 50% less than his quote. It felt like a dirty used car salesman. Update to response: In my review I stated I was ok with you changing $250 for the estimate. What I want to make clear for anyone reaching out to you to get a quote is once you get the estimate you put in the contract you only have a very small window to accept. You wanted only 24 hours but extended to 72. Your company charges 50% more than any of the free estimates that i received from other glass companies. I felt like i you're trying to take advantage of customers. Buyer beware and shop around before contacting!!! read more

They say pictures speak 1000 words, or more, of course. Recently, Yelp dismissed one of my posts possibly because I didn't supply a picture, and possibly because I mentioned the name of a more local glass company where my experience was terrible. Anyway, Nustar and its founder, Jim, are the best Glaziers I have encountered in decades including numerous residential projects both primary and investment use. Recently, unfortunately, we did a residential addition and utilized a General Contractor who outsourced to his own glazier for a bathroom related steam shower. Five years ago, Jim's crew remodeled both of our home bathrooms and we have not had an alignment or any type of mechanical problem since. Not the case with a brand new door that our GC's glazier screwed up so much so that I needed to call Nustar to fix it. The new floor to ceiling glass door in the bathroom is falling because they did not use the correct hardware for its weight nor did they seal or adjust them properly! Nustar is redoing them correctly, of course. We have told our GC that we prefer our trusted glazier to repair the work the "sub" that he used miscalculated, and he will be reimbursing us under his own warranty, while actually being pleased with the correction price. I hope he uses Nustar as his sub in the future as well! read more

Prices not good. Quality of sliding glass doors are low quality. The equipment on my sliders are low quality and can easily be pulled apart. I have to keep boards to keep doors locks. I ordered a new large patio door to replace the french doors we had. Nu Star Windows and doors ordered me a Milgard door that has 2 doors that swing open, and 2 doors on the sides that have screens for air flow. They came and estimated the job and gave me a full disclosure about the complexity of the installation. The stucco would have to be chipped out to install it right, and to ensure a safe watertight seal. Today they arrived and spent 8 hours installing. They took great care of the interior of my home as they knocked out the old and installed the new. Both workers were friendly and professional and allowed me to provide input during the install as to what I wanted to see. When it was finished, they hauled off the old doors and cleaned everything up nicely. They cleaned the glass and showed me how everything worked. There aren't words in the English language to express how highly I recommend Jim and Nu-Star. I run a store in Santa Barbara, and at about 6 pm today we had an incident that resulted in a broken front window. I spent an hour and a half pounding the Santa Barbara phone book for ANYBODY who might be able to help. I got to the point where I was dialing random extensions, and the only answer I received was to try a board-up service followed with a quick hang up. Luckily my District Manager remembered that we had done work with Nu-Star in the past in the Simi Valley area, and told me to give Jim a call to see if he could possibly help out. He thought it was a long shot, seeing the time (8-ish) and the distance. Even though he was finishing another job at the time, Jim didn't even hesitate. He was able to get one of his guys (I forget his name, but he was fantastic as well) to drive 20 minutes to him, he gave me the brilliant idea to send him pictures of the area and the frame to figure out what he needed, and he made the drive from Simi to help us out. I was readying myself for at least a midnight out time tonight. He got there, got down to work, and by 10:30 he was done. I didn't even have a chance to offer him coffee. No board-up, no run around, just an all-around beautiful job by a wonderful company.
