Best massage my boyfriend and I have ever had! We stayed in the city for Memorial Day weekend and last minute decided to do a spa day as a mini "escape." At first we tried Shibui Spa at The Greenwich Hotel and the new Spa at the Equinox Hotel, however they were all booked since it was a last minute reservation. SO glad this happened and that they were able to accomodate us with short notice. Nuansa is a little gem in the chaos of Uptown / NYC. What sold it for me (besides the raving reviews) was that they offered a Thai Poltice massage. The best massage I had ever had prior to this was at the Amanbagh in India--which was also a herbal compress massage. My boyfriend has also been to places like Chiva-Som in Thailand and said this massage was even better than any he experienced there. Together we have gone to many luxury spas all over the world, as well as not so luxurious ones. For example, we do a weekly massage in Chinatown (where honestly you can find some very talented hands). I wish I would have gotten the names of our masseuses to give them proper, well-deserved credit. The details and service were also above and beyond expectations. From being greeted by name at arrival, the seamless intake process, to the hospitality from every person we interacted with. The warm and graceful hostess was also amongst the best part of the experience. I received the Purity Facial and my boyfriend the Oxygen Facial. The facialist was so sweet and knowledgeable. Both were great and we left looking renewed and glowing. However, the best part of the entire experience is by far the massage! The mixture of Swedish, deep tissue and Thai massages were masterfully executed with the addition of the hot compresses and cold towels. I am usually disappointed at luxury spas that market "deep tissue" massages that end up being mediocre / feel like you were barely touched. Our therapist had magic hands, getting deep into all the problem areas. She also performed some lymphatic drainage which left my legs/cellulite looking super smooth; and experienced massive relief in digestion. Cannot say more positive things for this little gem. First time here and the experience was excellent from arrival to departure. Friendly staff, very clean common areas and my massage therapist was excellent. I chose the Thai massage which incorporated heated stones, stretching, deep tissue, and elements of Swedish massage. On Saturday June 5, 2021 my friends and I called for same day appointments but they were booked but had availability on Sunday June 6th, so we scheduled for that day. From reading the other Yelp reviews I was truly looking forward to a wonderful experience and I was not disappointed. The previous reviews said the elevator was not that great but when I got off on the 5th floor I felt calm enter my body. I was greeted immediately, they even knew my name before I said anything and there was an appointment for myself and my two girlfriends. EVERYONE was so nice, I wondered am I still in NY? Since I was waiting for my friends because I was early they were very accommodating and apologized for my wait but as I said I was early. What you notice after the greeting is the cleanliness of the place (spotless). You are asked to remove your shoes and socks and are given a pair of slippers. After a few minutes I was escorted to the changing room (emmaculate). Every step I took I was growing calmer. Before making the appointment, my friends and I were able to ask a lot of questions because we honestly could not decide what treatment(s) to get and the woman on the phone (I believe her name was Tracy, she greeted me upon arrival) explained the healing properties of each treatment after we informed her of what we were looking for. I informed her I needed a deep tissue and a body scrub. Normally, at spas in the States or abroad the locations do not go deep enough for me. Well Tracy paired me with Yellan (sp) who was extremely pleasant and I must admit I was NOT disappointed with the pressure. She was exactly what I needed. I immediately felt comfortable with her and then she went to work. I told Yellan I was under a great deal of stress which she no doubt would feel in my body, she did and she started working her magic. I selected the Samunprai Thai Poultice massage which included stretching and I added the Himalayan Salt scrub (my skin felt so smooth after the shower). EVERTHING was AMAZING! THANK YOU Yellan. I was throughly pleased with my experience and it was so worth my time and money. Will I be back? DEFINITELY (but Yellan must be my masseuse)! When she stretched me and I started walking I did not feel the pain in my lower back that I walked in with. I need to add more "self-care" to my life and because I was so relaxed after Yellen got done, I only had energy to go home shower and go to bed. While the elevator ride up was a lil sketchy, the spa itself was beautiful and so relaxing. We were immediately greeted and led to the changing room and refreshments. Once you get past the sparse and creepyish lobby and the odd location (in the heart of 5th Ave shops and tourists right near the Cathedral), you'll arrive at a really tranquil and peaceful spa. From the moment you enter, the front desk person is expecting you and helps you get acquainted with the space. My massage therapist was excellent - very calming and competent. Yesterday I had one of the best spa services of my life at Nuansa Spa! My fiancé booked theirs after reading Alissa's great review written during covid. I had the detoxify body boost service with Rephak and it was such a luxurious experience. Rephak meticulously rubbed my body down with exfoliating scrub, painted my body with clay and gave me an amazing face, scalp and body massage. I received this service as a birthday present from my fiancé, and would recommend to anyone who is looking to de-stress and moisturize their skin. They even gave me a complimentary glass of champagne for my birthday! And they use one of my favorite product lines, Red Flower, for their treatments. Chawee greeted me and helped me get settled into the spa mood, was very kind! Covid notes- this is a smaller spa, so I believe they only book 1-2 appointments at a time. I didn't see any other spa guests. The spa changing room and spa itself was extremely clean and I wore a mask until I was brought into my treatment room, where I could take off the mask while having my treatment done. Rephak wore her mask the whole time. This allowed me to relax and really enjoy the treatment while feeling safe. Amazing experience at Nuansa! It may be on the pricey side but well worth it (and Im a frugal person). Came here with the bf for our anniversary and was running late for our appointment. I called and they were able to move it back. We got the couple package, Sweet Moment for 60 min which included a full body massage, facial massage, and a scalp massage. That experience itself was magical because the masseuse were sensitive to what you can handle. The ambiance was heavenly the moment you step out the elevators. The owner even helps you unwind and gets you situated. You're led to the locker rooms where you can change into robes then to the lounge for refreshments (tea/water) while you wait for your masseuse. After the massage, you are taken back to the locker rooms where your shower is ready for you. The toiletries are all readily available for your use as you get ready: bobbi brown makeup, dyson hair dryer, and more! I love this spa! It's my home spa right now. The facility is so beautiful. They use high end products and also got a shower and lounge!! I love their ginger tea and snacks, very special treat and make me feel that I'm a VIP. Also their staff members are all so lovely. I have been there a few times and their service is second to none. Couldn't expect more from a massage really. They even help you put on your shoes. The only con could be the price. They charge at least $160 for 60 mins massage and add tips on that. I'm in NYC for the weekend visiting my daughter. She had tickets to the Knicks game this afternoon so I decided to treat myself to a spa day. What a great decision! I found this beautiful boutique spa on Fifth Avenue and it was truly amazing. It is a hidden gem, literally! The door to the building you could easily pass by without a thought. However once you get off the elevator you are gracefully welcomed into this wonderful, aroma filled space by the owner and her staff. They quickly take your jacket, seat you on a comfy couch and remove your shoes for you! I was given slippers and walked to the changing area. The changing area is small but very well designed and well appointed with every amenity. The shower was huge with an amazing rainfall shower head. The staff warmed up the shower for me and the shower is cleaned fully after each guest. The changing area has lockers with digital locks. The spa has a cozy lounge with snacks, water, and hot tea of your choice. I had both the green tea and ginger tea - the latter was my favorite!!! I purchased the Urban escape spa package which was well with the price of $470. First I had a 1 hour body massage and the provider had the right combination of gentleness and strength. I had a ton of knots and my masseuse worked tirelessly to get them out. My second service was a full body scrub. So worth the slight abrasions- I may have lost three layers of skin cells but my skin feels silky smooth. Lastly I had a facial with Kimmy and that was so relaxing and refreshing. She was so professional and recommended some treatments based on my skin. Many thanks to the owner who was so sweet, welcoming and friendly. I ABSOLUTELY recommend this spa. So I was in desperate need of some relaxation and I looked on Yelp for highly-rated NYC spas and found this place; I think the only place I saw on here with 5 stars. So I booked the "Drift Away" package of a massage and facial (an hour each)--not cheap but I figured it would be worth it. I got to Nuansa about 45 min early so I could sit & enjoy the space a bit. The spa is on the 5th floor of a building, the ground floor entrance to which is kind of small/shabby. But once the elevator doors open the first thing you notice is the lovely fragrance. You take off your shoes in that front area (there's a circular bench along the wall) and they actually put your slippers on your feet for you! You're then led into the locker room. The lockers are fairly large with codes to lock them. However it's a very small area & there is only 1 bathroom & 1 shower. If there's more than 1 or 2 people in there it feels crowded, plus you have to wait to use it. The bathroom stall & shower itself are spacious. In any case I changed into my robe & was led into the lounge, which was beautifully appointed (when I posted pics later my friend recognized the designer furniture) and serene. There were fresh roses and chocolate truffles on the table to enjoy, as well as the ginger tea I had chosen waiting for me. There was also a cart with cucumber and lemon water, wasabi peas, and various dried fruits & nuts to nibble on, and magazines laid out at the bottom. I was given an iPad with a short form to fill out (health conditions etc) although I didn't see anyone actually look at it once I did (they did ask how I like my pressure in massages). They also have 3 aromatherapy scents on the table (fire, water, wood) so you can choose which one you want for the massage. While I was in the lounge a lady came out from her massage and told me that might have been the best massage she's ever had! So that raised my expectations even more. Personally I had come early so I could relax a bit in the lounge, but instead they decided to take me early. The room I was taken to was quiet & clean, however I'm not a fan of the massage table. This is an issue I have with most spas--why don't they get massage tables that are contoured or malleable or where the head rest can be raised? So many of their customers are women, and I would think a lot of women also have larger chests like I do. A flat hard massage bed is extremely uncomfortable & your head can't go down into that hole at the same level. I asked the masseuse for a pillow & she was able to give me a cylindrical pillow for me to rest my neck on so I could be raised up and not have my chest squashed horribly. Anyway, that aside my massage was very good if not the best I've had, and she checked in about the pressure (usually I like it soft so I can fall asleep, but since I had back pain/knots I let her do more medium pressure which I think did help). It was nice that the bed was heated (but later I felt hot). After the massage the same person did the facial. I kind of wonder about that--are they really trained/experts in both massage & facials rather than being specialized in one thing? I didn't feel the facial was worth it, which is unfortunate given the price. She seemed to think I had regular acne (when actually I was breaking out for hormonal reasons) and was saying I shouldn't use moisturizer in my T-zone--which is not correct, as I'm always being told my skin is dry/dehydrated. She did steam & extractions and said my blackheads were quite deep (kept saying I should do a facial at least once after summer--and I'd had a facial in Nov, so even more recently than that!), and my eyes were covered but it felt like she was squeezing the pores. Which is not good for someone like me who has hyperpigmentation! Also there wasn't really any explanation of what was being done or the products being used. Whatever she put on after extractions stung a bit, and now several days later the skin on my nose is still peeling a lot! And I feel my pores look larger. Not particularly happy about that. Anyway after my facial I went & sat in the lounge a bit to relax. They seemed a bit surprised but didn't rush me & offered me more tea. There's not any amenities otherwise (no steamroom/sauna/plunge pool) so soon after I paid and left. I have to say the best part of the spa is that the service is very good--they are all so soothing and nice, and the whole atmosphere is lovely and zen. Personally I might go back to try their more interesting massages, but probably not for a facial. read more

On record, for real, and without question Nuansa is one of two places I go for massage and facial in the tri-state area. For years, I was loyal to and exclusive with Haven. Nuansa knocks it out of the park in every way possible. I booked a Thai Poultice Massage and The Restorer Facial for my birthday earlier this month. The massage, masterfully provided by Naru, and the facial, perfectly done by Tenzin, were among the best of those services I have ever experienced. And that ain't the half. The space, the whole floor, provides a vibe that is calm, happy, welcoming, and true. You can hear a pin drop there. There are no more than 12 lockers there. The shower is bigger than my bathroom (I live in an NYC apartment, and still). The founder, Nuanchawee, greeted and welcomed me on my birthday. She made tea - individual, custom blends - for every guest that day (which were three people besides me). The tea was amazing. Among the things that set Nuansa apart from other spas is the staff does not rush you through the procedure, nor are you rushed out when things are complete. There is no hard sell for products, additional services, future appointments, and the like. Whether that is Nuanchawee's style or there is no need to be aggressive, or both, I appreciate greatly how my birthday this year was mellow and happy. For the first time in months I became somewhat repellent to the noise, fray, crowds, and heat that make summer in New York City what it is. After the changing room I met the technician in a small waiting room. Again simply and serene. But the best was to come. My appointment was with Ella for a facial. And it was indeed the best facial and face massage have ever had. We spoke about what I needed -deep cleanse and moisturizing for a well traveled face. I would've never notice this place if I was just walking on the fifth ave sidewalks.. once the elevator door opened, we were greeted by a friendly smile and guided to a room where there was the spa shower and lockers.. we changed into our white fluffy robes and was bought to another room that's filled with drinks and small snacks for us to enjoy. Getting a facial here is like having a pro pianist play on your face...the rhythm, the touch, the tempo...and let's just say Denzin played a masterpiece on mine. Gentle but thorough extractions, scrubs, massages... I'm no spa guru, but I've treated myself from time to time, and this place was right up there with the spa at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong (one of the nicest spas I've been to) in terms of service, professionalism, and quality of environment. NOTHING about this place is sub-par. While you're resting with your mask on, they massage your arms, hands, scalp, and upper back. When we arrived for our appointment, we were greeted like they had been looking forward to our arrival. When we were in the lounge waiting for our service, they came in to review our services with us, everything was so personal and friendly. When we walked out in our courtesy slippers to leave, our shoes were laid out waiting for us...little touches like that (and they've pretty much thought of it all) make this a 5-star place. Husband and I did a Mother's Day couples facial; his first. He now wants to go every week. If it didn't break the bank, we WOULD. (We did a 60-min facial, but all in all, it was a 2-hour experience. After hearing amazing feedback from clients that I booked this spa for, I decided to give it a try myself with my boyfriend. When you first arrive and get out of the elevator you are greeted right away and seated to change out of your shoes. Afterwards they walk you to the locker room where there is the bathroom, huge shower, and lockers. You change into the robe and proceed to the waiting room. I loved the waiting room as they hand you champagne and can munch a bit on their snacks and truffles! Once it's about time for your appointment, a lady comes in to have you fill out your profile and choose which essential oil you would like to use. As for the actual treatment, my boyfriend and I got the couple package, 90 minutes, Time for Two ($480). This is a 2 step treatment. First you get a full body scrub, go to the lockers to wash it off, and then a fully body massage plus a warm head/scalp facial. The scrub felt really great, as she really scrubbed every spot of my body, so I felt very fresh and clean. As for the full body massage, really good technique, got the spots that I needed more attention to, overall felt great. I must take this time though to compliment the staff as they were amazing!! They were all so friendly and attentive, which made the experience that much of a difference. Overall, was it worth $480? My boyfriend and I agreed that it was a yes/no for us. It does carry a hefty price tag for something that doesn't have what other spas offer. I know other spas out there that even have saunas, hot steam room, and even baths with a lower price tag. I would still recommend this place if you would like to be pampered because it was still a really great experience. The entrance hallway was so non-descript I was wondering what I had gotten myself into. I had made reservations for a party of 4 and they welcomed us and took our shoes and put them away. We were able to hang out in the lounge and have champagne and chocolate before our services. They discussed our expectations before having us change into our robes and go for our services. I went here for their 1-hour massage as a birthday treat to myself. Greeted as soon as I walked in. They took my jacket, bag and shoes then directed me to the changing room where you can change into their robe. After changing, they lead me into the waiting room where you can chill and have snacks- they offered me champagne and tea. "Grandma" was assigned to me- overall as a massage connoisseur I'll give it a 9/10 experience. $180/60mins plus I gave a tip of $40- definitely worth it. read more
