I came here for the new client single process where you get a blowout free. Gina did my color and I told her to prioritize matching my natural color and maybe adding a little subtle red. She definitely went a bit darker than my roots so I worry it's not going to match but tba. It did cover my grey roots nicely and it looks good, I just think she went a little too dark. She was nice but I worry looked at my hair not having been washed for a day and should have made sure she really had my natural color. Nicole with the fake red hair did my blowout. She was more friendly and did a nice but quick blowout. Overall I see why people like this salon. They have goldwell which is some of the best dye on the market and they seem to be a well oiled machine. I know a few women too in their 60s and 70s that swear by this place but I'm not completely sold. I would try another colorist if I go again. read more

I went in asking for a demi-permanent light brown to blend my greys, but ended up with a dark brown/black single-process that completely covered them. When I mentioned it right away, I was told it was my natural shade and that it would fade and be lighter after my hair dried. I went back an hour later and set up another appointment for the next day to adjust the color. At that visit, the colorist washed my hair twice with clarifying shampoo, but didn't do the full color lift/color removal I had requested. Everyone at NuBest is very talented. I've gotten my color from Brooke and Sosi; the highlights were so natural and soft. I've gotten my cut from Jenny, Jamie, Rae, and Marco; every time it has come out perfect and grown out so nicely. Dawn, Blanca, and Ferreira have given me breathtaking updos. For blowouts, Marco, Rae, and Emily are great; my blowouts always stay all night and even into the next day (which I typically have issues with because my hair is fine). Been a very long bad hair day.... Why am I writing this review? Because I've been a client of Nubest for many years. And this review will make sure that I never become complacent and go back. I've been having my hair color, cut and other services for years there. For the past few years, it's been the same colorist. And while it's not been great ever, it's been OK, so I always thought oh it's just fine. It'll do. (Incidentally, I've seen other reviews of her work, and all unhappy clients here in yelp) Well, not this last time. The last time I went and had my usual color upkeep, and within a very short time, my head was itchy and burning. Within a couple of weeks, my hair was falling out in handfuls, to the point that I have lost half my hair. For a while there I literally thought I would lose all of my hair. That's how much I was losing every single day for a couple of months. Now a few months later, steroid creams for my scalp, a lot of stress over this, and two different doctors, confirming that this was most definitely due to improper mixing of chemicals, the colorist tried to tell me that that's not possible. That was the worst answer possible for her to give me. I now have big patches of breakage and the texture of my hair is destroyed. It will take a couple of years for my hair to recover and grow out from this. I also am terrified to get my color done at all, this was such a horrific experience. Will I get the courage to try another salon? Possibly. Will it ever be at Nubest again? Absolutely no way. The end of an era. Beware there. The stylists are not all very well trained with certain types of hair cuts and often don't listen to the client and do their own thing. The front desk staff are always nice, but the lady who cut my hair last time was very rude and was running 15 min late to my appointment, then she cut into my short hair with a razor that gave me bald patches. I had to get a fade that I did not want just to fix it after. Absolutely miserable experience. They also deleted my google review so they're hiding the bad ones. read more

I have gone to this place intermittently for a while now because it is clean. I normally only get pedicures, but today I got a mani and a pedi for a wedding. The nail tech was nice but the manicure felt very rushed. The lines are not clean as you can see and there are bubbles on some of the nails. I have gotten highlights from this salon for years. Only about 25% of the time do I leave happy- I have curly hair and as such it seems that they don't care as much about my roots- the past 2 visits, I have had to go back to get my hair fixed. I have brunette roots with blonde all around, and my roots currently look like a 2000s style chunky highlight. For $200, I am very disappointed. They offer free touch-ups in the case that you are unhappy, which is a plus, but I expect better performance from the get-go. read more

NuBest used to be my go-to salon for color. I've had beautiful, multidimensional, long, fine hair which used to be treated like I do. However, this last trip (I let two years go) was anything but! First, I walk in with healthy blondish hair which I treat with care. I wanted rose gold highlights, strawberry blonde, etc. and provided many pics. IT CAME OUT BLACK! After VERY aggressively BRUSHING my tangled, sopping wet hair, Tracy, the colorist then puts a towel over my head and rubbed vigorously. When the shock wore off, I went back for a bleach bath (wasn't told, or help in loop about ANYTHING!), my scalp was burning from all the damage to my scalp. Obviously I got $ back, but I'd rather not have compromised my hair for over 3 months now with crappy shampoo to rinse out the "Demi-permanent" dye, and a lot of $ on Olaplex No 0 & No. 3. Head-colorist advice for least damage was Suave (VERY harsh!) & lots of Olaplex No. 3 to keep it healthy. It does, but not AS healthy. And it's STILL darker than my natural color! Dawn at Newbest Salon finally blew out my hair correctly. Every other hairstyle artist does it wrong. If you wish for voluminous hair follow these simple steps 1.Wash hair-squeeze out all the water 2.Add volumizer- gently finger dry hair holding it slightly upwards for a few mins. 3. After your scalp is mostly dry- gently set it with a brush on low heat. Spray 4. Voila ! Hair stylist in a hurry start pulling your soaking wet hair on high heat to finish up faster than the 20 mins. NuBest Salon is the best salon on Long Island. Everyone is so warm and friendly at the front desk between making my appointments and checking in and out. I use Marcela for color and she is super nice, listens and does amazing color and highlights. Jenny cuts my hair and I always love her cuts and her blow outs. I have been to Dawn, Madison, Jillian and they do awesome blow outs as well. I really wouldn't trust any other salon with my hair I'm always happy. read more

This was my first time I typically use a city salon. I was surprised by the size of the operation. They quickly sat me down to wash my hair and then promptly forgot about me for thirty minutes. I finally went to the desk and asked if I should come back. They promptly directed me to a chair and Glen took care of me. I was pretty hot after being forgotten but I have to say it was worth the wait. Glen was incredible and I will be returning. Would be five star had I not had such a long wait. read more

This place is as hectic as a badly run grocery store. Went on a Saturday and nothing about the experience was pleasant. Hair washing felt like I was being put through a car wash being run by high school kids. The actual cut was so basic and half assed, I asked the stylist if she was done because I was appalled how quickly she cut my long hair with no attention to detail and no layers as we discussed and she proceeded to rush me out. Could've went to Supercuts and had better results and probably more relaxing time. Never ever ever again. read more

I want to start of my saying the staff is super friendly and nice, but unfortunately that does not makeup for the lack of skill their stylists have. I came to nuBest for the first time in 2016 and left with a bad haircut. Given it was a late Sunday afternoon and the stylist herself told me she had started working there a few months ago. Luckily it was just an inch trim so it wasn't too bad - just uneven in a few spots. I also paid $60 so it was your average hair cut cost for a uneven trim. Flash forward to 2018, just last week I decided to give nuBest another try. This time they told me they would give me a senior stylist. Although she was a sweet heart she gave me the most uneven lob I have even seen. She cut small layers in the from and there is a stark different in where it's suppose to gradually be longer in the front. It is just choppy and all over uneven. I even told her that she gave me layers and she insisted that the pieces in the front were that short (even though I previously had a lob and it was now past my shoulders ) Keep in mind I paid $100 which left me pretty angry. For their prices they should really up thei Maybe I had two strokes of bad luck but I definitely won't give it a third chance A week later they called me asking me how my cut was - I let them know I was very upset. They asked me to come in to have the cut fixed. They gave me Lenny- their top stylist. He did a good job fixing the uneven cut. With that said, he did the best he could do to fix the old cut (and keeping in mind my hair was short he couldn't take much off the length to fix it over all). read more

Wow! I've felt like Goldilocks since we moved to Long Island. One salon completely butchered my color and cut. Another threw in a suspicious $120 in extra charges at the end for "toners" and then I found Chelsea at NuBest on Instagram for color. Everyone was so nice. It's definitely a busy place, but the service was great. Chelsea was adorable and did an amazing job. And the price was reasonable. I'm surprised it's only 3.5 stars. They've called to check on me and see if I'm still happy. They had me fill out a customer service card. They've already sent me a coupon. They couldn't be any nicer. I'm going to give a fair review everybody there is lovely . The hours of operation are great. Strangers have stopped me and said they like my hair color. However, I went in to redo my highlights and I left with brown hair. I thought it was the lighting but no, I have full on dark hair!!! I tried scrubbing it out the minute I got home, but to no avail .This ruined my holiday weekend I have a promotional photo shoot to do that I had to reschedule; i'm also leaving on vacation so I don't have time to fix it and I have to walk around feeling terrible I also have to go spend another day in the salon to have my hair corrected to the desired colored. This has been one of the most upsetting experiences when it comes to a salon. My only suggestion would be if you go there. Make sure you are getting what you want not what they think you should want, and if they are unable to give you what you want please go find another salon that can. read more

I went here to get my nails, hair and makeup done for an engagement party. I was really surprised how easy it was for me to make an appointment for a Friday. (Then I realized it was a holiday weekend.) Anywho, I haven't been to Nubest in over 10 years but growing up here in Manhasset you know this is the place to go to if you want to look good. My event was in the city and knew I had to be out of Nubest by a certain time. This place is so efficient. I was never left waiting long at all between services. I arrived there at 1:30pm and first for my mani & pedi done. It was ok. I've had better mani/pedis done at my go to place in SF but the ultimate goal was achieved. My nails looked purdy :) Next was my hair. After my nails dried fully I was whisked off to the hair washing section then off to the hair drying station. Seriously I have never had my hair dried so quickly and my hair is super thick too. I felt like my hair looked like Princess Kate Middleton. :) Lastly after hair I get sent off to makeup. I wasn't sure what to expect in this department. I knew Nubest has their own line of makeup and I figure since it's Nubest I wouldn't have a thing to worry about. So I took a leap of faith and let the makeup artist work her magic. I wasn't looking at a mirror while she was working on me but I did notice other women having their makeup applied and was amazed. This older women with age spots came out of the makeup section with flawless skin. A girl who had a sweet 16 looked amazing. After a half hour or so the artist brought me over to a mirror to see the finished product. My jaw dropped I had no idea I could look like that in less than 2 hours!!! The ladies of Nubest made me feel like a million bucks without having to spend that much :) One thing I wish I knew beforehand was all tips are in cash so definitely bring some when you have a service there. Luckily I don't live too far from there so the next day I left tips for everyone. I will definitely be heading over there again when I need to look my best for an event. read more

I can not put words to the security, and confidence I have in this entire establishment. It has been almost 10 years since I began my journey here. Prior to that I was wandering aimlessly for years through the boroughs of nyc and towns in Long Island while I went from blacks, browns, reds and blondes. Making "friends" with the different salon workers who colored, cut, styled and did makeup. I want to preface this review with an understanding of my hair history. I get bored, I am never content for long, like my weight, my hair changes! I found myself going to the next person to fix the last persons mistakes. I wont name all the salons I have had bad experiences in because I did form relationships. Family friends, friends family, old friends I had grown up with. Which makes it hard to complain. I leave with a smile and thank everyone regardless of how happy I am. This has NEVER been the case at NuBest! I happen to have gone to HS with the directors wife- but like I mentioned, It doesn't matter.. If I am not happy-I move on. Always respectfully. I tried them out almost a decade ago by recommendation for color by Andrea and cut by Jamie (if available) I honestly don't remember who did my first cut, but I remember Andrea being the new love of my life! She was not "chatty".. she was all business, but in a pleasant way. I kept her for years.. and will still go to her when I make an "advanced" appointment. So for all you ladies that are great at scheduling.. she is your girl. Now, because I am always last minute (literally day of sometimes) I will use anyone who assisted Andrea. (And learned from her mastery..color guru, I swear) presently I use Olivia, who is fun, and lets me mess around with my colors, without letting me take it too far! I need that.. don't just color my hair because I showed you a pic.. explain the ramifications and make me understand. Now we take gradual steps! As for cut. I have never had a bad haircut there. From stylist to stylist sometimes I get the occasional "who did your last cut"... if it was good, they compliment it.. if they dont, they just mmhhmmm it, lol.. not to down play anyone else and their abilities.. I have had over 10 people cut and style over the years. All capable. Whenever I want a major change, I consult with Jamie Mazzei. He is honest-he says "if you really want to"... lol.. but again, never takes me down a path, even if I push-that I will hate. Everyone who works there has always been pleasant. It is a large salon, and I love the last minute aspect I can get. Makeup has never left me dissatisfied, Whenever I do get it, I actually feel like I must look like sh*t daily because of all the compliments.. so go figure. I have done nails.. okay.. nice people.. I don't take that stuff too personally and usually still get my nails done in Queens just because I think its cheaper and faster if I am already in the neighborhood.. i have tried many hair products, that I actually ask about.. nobody has ever pushed anything on me. The temporary cOlor shampoos are great fun! I have not tried the spa yet.. One day! Lol.. But overall... This is a tight ship! Run so well. Obviously why it is in business so many years and constantly keeping up with design and environment!! The most innovative design in a salon I have seen. I have been twice, for a coloring and a cut. Both came out beautifully and I was very happy. What I was not at all happy about is their customer service. The girl who cut my hair and another girl who washed my hair were extremely cold and rude. It does seem to be endemic there (with the exception of Christian). Would love to go back but they make it impossible after their repeated lack of decency. Come here if you want to be treated like a piece of garbage, since that is how the curt and pompous staff will treat you...but you will leave looking good. read more

It feels so good to have my hair done after being home for so long. I was worried about what my experience at NuBest would be like. I am happy to say that my experience was wonderful. NuBest is taking every possible measure to keep the clients and the hair professionals safe. There were disposable gowns to protect your clothes everyone wears masks and sanitizer was everywhere.
