My daughter just finished her last class at Nubreed, since she's going away for college in a couple of days. She's been going to this school for so long, and while she doesn't really exhibit power in her strikes, and she's a fairly small young lady, I thankfully have some confidence that in an attack, she could handle herself pretty well. I'm really grateful for all of the effort Nubreed puts into every detail of their business. I really don't know of another Martial Arts school that goes to the lengths they go to in order to keep operations smooth. In fact, you'd be hard to find many businesses that do so, in general. Although the academy is massive, it's most distinguishing aspect is it's family atmosphere where everybody knows each other name. Nubreed is so important and special to my family. Our children have gone to Nubreed for several years. The younger classes and now also the teens class. For both of them, it has increased their discipline, self-confidence, and physical strength. I'm so proud of them, and how hard they work at Nubreed, and I attribute it all to the amazing Sifus and instructors. These skills, knowledge, and morals, that they pass down to the kids is wonderful. Not only that, but it is fun for them. There are constantly parties and events throughout the year, and even the summer camp is super awesome! You can tell the staff really loves and cares about the kids and making sure that they are gaining the skills and knowledge in a timely fashion. They move them up in belts when they feel the children are ready and are able to handle the skills they need to learn in their next belt. During Covid Nubreed provided virtual classes to keep the children on the right track. Not only did they reimburse the parents who paid during Covid out of the kindness and generosity in their hearts, but they provided us during an unstable time with a very stable routine. The discipline was still there as the children had to be in uniform and focused for every class. Being able to continue their routine was so important and it was pretty much one of the only stable routines we were able to have during that time, and I will always hold it near and dear to my heart. There is a reason that their student base stays for so many years... They care about their students, they care about the families of their students, and they care about the physical and overall well-being of the children that they teach. Been a little over a year now, I'm in better shape, am more flexible, and feel like if anything ever happened, I can actually hold my own. The Sifus and Sihings are always learning themselves to stay fresh and to keep us modern. More classes have opened including kickboxing, American boxing, Muay Thai and savate. DETAILED REVIEW: Those who know me know that I'm "highly sensitive" and have pretty high standards when it comes to spending my hard-earned money that I work so hard for in my day job and side-hustles. I will literally dispute $1.00 on principle, but if the service/product is worthy, I will gratefully give my full support and loyalty, pay full price without question, or give that 50% tip (truth). So, you can take my word for it -- Nubreed Martial Arts Academy in Whitestone, NY is the best and only place one should train at. Well, you can also take the words of students who have been attending for 10+ years or more... that works too. I've been to a few MMA schools and gyms before I attended Nubreed. I never continued for long because a lot of these places lose sight of the fundamental principles in martial arts - physical and mental spirituality, positivity, and respect for others. Consequently, some students at these places unleash their inner bullies... and maybe even hidden sociopathic traits (I'm half-joking, I got bullied for being "slow" and not losing weight "fast enough"). So, if you want a place that reminds you of aggressive UFC face-offs with one ego trying to out-ego another with puffed chests, then keep reading this review so you can change your mind (and find some peace lol). I guarantee you will feel a strong sense of said peace as soon as you walk through the front door at Nubreed. With deepest respects to all religions, I personally find it's not unlike entering a house of worship. It's no secret that we are blessed with an abundance of choices in this country. I often go down really long, dark rabbit holes with my comparative research (sometimes it leads me deep into YouTube which can be quite disturbing). However, I didn't need to do that with Nubreed - I just knew right away (when you know, you just know). A critical component of any decision should always be the people behind the business. The integrity of the founders and leadership defines the integrity of the business and its employees. The owners of Nubreed, Sifu Luigi and Sifu Chan, are no exception. There are pretty good reasons why they are so highly respected and admired. Both are truly honorable and ethical people and run a really tight ship with inspiring efficiency. Without turning this into a gushing saga (too late lol), what I really love about Nubreed is the encouraging and positive environment. They really nurture your spiritual, mental, and physical growth (per the Student Creed which I have posted above my desk and on my dresser). At the end of class, Sifu Luigi will often give some pretty inspiring words of wisdom. The Instructors are so-times-infinity amazing. I shan't name names for diplomacy's sake, but one in particular exudes infinite patience and kindness (hey, we all have our favorites). All the instructors, including Sifus of course, are awesome human beings, patient, and really great at teaching. I'm a challenging student because I'm highly analytical and data oriented. Areas I need growth (and a lot of help) in are visualizing spatial relationships, coordination/choreography (I have literally tripped on air and over my own toes), and "performing" (I prefer to be behind the scenes). Perhaps it's the millions of thoughts and questions constantly running through my mind, but I'm also very scattered. I can honestly state, cross my heart and hope to die, that Nubreed is helping me improve dramatically. If anything, go to Nubreed because of the friendly students and strong sense of community. I don't think I fully processed and appreciated all that Nubreed does to enrich one's life the first time around, but I sure am now. Happiness experts say that everyone needs something to look forward to. Well, Nubreed is my one and only go-to happy place where, truly, everyone knows your name and they're always glad you came ("Cheers" fans and older people will get this). In all seriousness, it really is a safe and happy haven. For one blessed hour of my day, I get to escape, forget this crazy world, and restore my faith in humanity. Had the pleasure of attending my daughter's pre brown belt testing. It was a great experience to see a large group of teens, including my daughter being so dedicate to their cause. The instructors really care and they are the motivating force behind the success of the team. My daughter attends class twice a week when possible and she takes great pride in making sure she is never absent or late. I have been a Nubreed student since 2010. After 2 great years I stopped for personal reasons. On September 2020 I enrolled both of my kids to their amazing junior classes. They tried many schools but from the moment they stepped into Nubreed that was it. They loved it. It's a clean and Positive environment, with friendly staff who have a true passion for what they are doing . And trust me kids need that hour outside of their daily routine. In addition they are learning an art, they practice, exercise, and their mental health improves daily. This made me start thinking about returning. I missed that great feeling after a class. It was about 8 years since my last one. And finally, I decided to rejoin. I'm currently 41. Ive been working out here and there but definitely a bit heavier these days, so I knew that starting again would be challenging in the beginning.But it didn't take long. It's called "muscle and movement memory" . Everything started to coming back, the physics, all the combinations and movements, all the kicks and boxing moves, all the trapping and Grambling. I also joined BJJ and I will Join Muai Thai for sure. 4 weeks there and I feel amazing, strong and motivated, ready to go to the next level. I take women's kickboxing here and I love the place. It's clean, the teachers are kind but intense, and all the women in the class have been super nice an easy to partnet up with(I came into it knowing nobody). The prices for the class I'm told by friends that take kickboxing elsewhere are pretty par for the course and if you can go all the times they offer the class then you really get your money's worth. read more

Ive been going here since I was 8 years old, but unfortunately I had to stop because of school and work reasons. I Absolutely adored my time with Nubreed and I plan on going right back this summer. Every instructor is kind,knowledgeable and understanding. At no point while in this school have I felt threatened or embarrassed. I felt like I was a part of a family. Everyone knew my name, everyone treated me like I was apart of this family. Going to class was such a big relief I felt so good and distressed afterwards. It was always a great workout, my heart was always beating, I always came out of that class sweating and feeling great. This school has helped me lose A TON of weight. Eating right and coming here is all I needed to lose 30 pounds before. The school itself if very nice, and clean. The mats were awesome they were sepereated into a more boxing oriented room (red mats) and a more jiu jitsu ground work type of room (blue mats). They had changing rooms in the back, a meditation room with a bruce lee quote. They also have a vending machine where you could get water and vitamin water from and they also have a snack machine where you can get healthy snacks if you wanted. I would like to take a moment to talk about the instructors that have impacted my life. Sifu Luigi- Growing up I never had a dad around, I always looked at Sifu Luigi like a father figure for me. He would always push me to my limits and he helped shape my personality the way I am today. He is amazing at what he does he is extremely kind. I am so grateful for the things hes done for my Mother and I. I love him very much. Sifu Alex- Sifu Alex was the man! He had some really funny and sometimes corney jokes. He is a great Sifu just like Sifu Luigi he is very skilled as well. He is also very nice. Seehin (sorry for spelling) Pierre- I sparred with him for my black belt test in juniors 2! He is also very funny and kind. He is a great instructor. He always called me the dancing machine and also me and my friend andy batman and robin.... I hope I was batman Seehin John- Great instructor, Saturday class with Seehin John was always the best. You felt pain but the good kind. He is very nice and kind. He is also a bit on the smaller end but that doesnt mean he should be taken lightly by any stretch of your imagination. He is extremely talented. Seehin Ventura- Great instructor he is a machine. Very nice and always looking out for the best. He will push you until hes seen you have done what he expects. Nubreed was like a second home to me. I studied martial arts at other schools at times and my friend introduced me to Nubreed. What I love about NUbreed is...it's not just a business. It's family. I train off and on...I am looking to be more regular esp in 2014...but when I am missing from class....I get a call to find out if all is well and encouragement to come back in as soon as possible. NEVER any pressure and teir understand and patience level is incredible. When I do come back...the welcome is warm and no "brow beating." Then I realize what I have been missing out on....The skill level for the instructors after off the charts and they take the time to make sure you get it. I love it.
