I went on a Sunday for a late dinner with friends. Went at around 7 pm, and it wasn't busy at all. Our server was great and gave us free chips and salsa for the table. Super delicious! I got the combo plate with an enchilada and a chimichanga. It was yummy and something I would get again. I also got a pina colada as a drink and i couldn't really taste the alcohol but it was nonetheless still delicious and decently priced. Overall it was a great dinner, I would return again. read more

I tried food for the first time last night, I had the Chicken Fajita, and Mariscos- Camarones Al Mojo de Ajo, Vallarta House special cocktail and coffee (with Kahlua and Captain Morgan mix). Definitely going back here to try out the menu. A good dollop of sour cream and Guacamole would do really well, it was too tiny. Do not waste your money. If you are looking for quality, this is not the place. I ordered tacos adobados expecting a tasty, traditional street taco for $19.75. Instead, what I got was flavorless, unmarinated, poorly prepared pork in single., falling apart corn shells without even a hint of cilantro or lime. They clearly do not care what they serve as the "chef" tried to talk my husband into a "different better quality meat" that he had just cooked for someone else's unrelated order, what?? My husband stuck to what we ordered and ended waiting for half an hour for a tasteless, expensive meal that had shards of plastic in it!!! Disappointing. The food is mediocre (definitely not "authentic" but good for Pullman standards). The chips taste fresh and the salsa is actually spicy. The decor is quirky and colorful. I also like that the restaurant is bright (some other restaurants in town are so dim). What's great is the service! The staff here are always friendly and you are always instantly greeted when you walk through the door. Parking can be tricky if it's peak hours. When I first came here, I thought "ugh, another Americanized ethnic restaurant in Pullman" but I've grown to love this place for its friendly service! My family and I have dinned here many times. The staff is nice. My complaint is the amount of tortilla chips has diminished considerably. They used to bring you baskets that where heaping and now your lucky to get 3/4 of a basket. If we come in and buy a dinner than we want the chips to be heaping then you can limit it to two baskets to a table. read more

We came here on cinco de mayo so it was about an hour wait. I had a pina colada which was really yummy! I ordered the tamale thinking I was getting a small entree since it was $9 but it actually ended up being a lot of food. The tamale had shredded beef and came with rice and beans. Everyone else at the table ordered burritos and they were huge! We also ordered one of the big margaritas which is definitely a two person drink! read more

I had their enchilada Blanca's and did take out. I wasn't very pleased with the test. The burritos were not "smothered" as they were supposed to be. The tortillas were dry except for the sauce puddle they were in. The enchiladas weren't terrible, but it wasn't really special at all; lacked much flavor. While eating the enchiladas, some of my "shredded beef" stuck together in chunks, as if it was never even pulled apart or tenderize as best as they could be. I was so disappointed. I've been craving Mexican all week and tried to go to La Casa Lopez in Moscow, but they were closed. I traveled to Pullman to get some Mexican food, my husband said his food tasted like a microwave burrito, and he was still hungry when we left. He ate his burrito in 3 minutes. My chicken crema was so bland that even when I put a whole bowl of salsa, and mixed in the beans, rice and Cole slaw it was as bland as can be. I left without eating much but the chips and salsa, and they didn't even seem surprised. In fact with an almost full plate they didn't even ask if I wanted a to go plate. I'll never go there again and I will tell everyone I know not to waste their money. I only tipped barely over 15 percent. Because the server was barely okay, the Host was amazing, best of the staff, from our experience. I typically tip at least 20 percent, because so many people close to me are in the service industry, and I try to tip 25 to 30 percent most of the time, but we weren't even asked if we were satisfied with our food. Most wait staff ask, "How is your meal?". We were only asked if we wanted dessert. It was the worst food and service I've experienced in the entire Palouse region, again with the exception of the host, who was super great. But you don't go to an eating establishment for the host, you go for the food and service, both of which were really lacking. Sad to say, it will take a LOT, to get my me to try this place again. read more

Pretty good! I definitely enjoy my experience here every time. The staff is super kind and hospitable. The food is quick and good for pullman standards. I typically get the Pork Chile Verde with black beans and a side for guacamole. I've also had their enchiladas and taco salads. Their portions are large enough to split and worth the price you pay! Everything was DELICIOUS and the portions are huge lol we got 3 things to share with our family (2 adults, 3 kids) and still took a bunch home as leftovers for the next day. I wish that I could give this restaurant zero stars. It was the worst meal that my boyfriend or I have ever had. We love Mexican food and were hoping that we could become regulars here since it's right down the street. The interior smelled odd and looked worse for wear, but book and cover, right? Our waiter looked like he was probably a college kid. He seemed frazzled but he still managed to be really friendly and quick. The salsa was pretty good but the tortilla chips were a little too dark and tasted like old fryer oil. I always order pollo a la crema when we go to Mexican restaurants and have never been disappointed. The pollo a la crema that I got was the saltiest plate of food I have ever tried to eat. After trying to discern the odd taste for a few minutes, I learned that instead of using proper Mexican cheese, they used parmesan. After a few bites, my tongue was raw. Despite all of that, my meal was not nearly as terrible as what Zach got. He ordered a dish called pollo fundido. It ended up being something like an incredibly salty burrito that had AMERICAN CHEESE melted on top. It was seriously disgusting. By the time it reached our table, the "cheese" had turned to plastic. I don't know how this place can be called a Mexican restaurant or even stay open. The bottom line is do NOT eat here. read more

I was feeling adventurous today, I treated myself to some mexican food in Eastern WA. Mexican is so sketchy up here that this is something that should be very impressive. Here are the good things. GREAT mexican music. check. Excellent salsa. check. Friendly service. check. Spanish rice, yummy. check. You can order whole pinto beans, and they are seasoned with bacon grease/or pork fat of some kind. check. Okay, now the bad stuff. unsavory/unspicy enchilada sauce. boo-hiss. stale tortilla chips. yuck. GROSS ground beef tacos. It tasted like it was made with a mixture of bbq sauce and ketchup....why people, why? It also looked like cat food. Also, I don't think they make their taco shells freshly. The people here are so nice, I hate to say anything negative about the place. The service is really speedy and the servers are super friendly, I just haven't really liked the food that I've had. I've been there 3 times, every time the enchilada sauce tastes like the stuff that Spaghetti-Os comes in. It may be just my personal opinion, I don't want to put people off based on that. I've also had the combo fajitas and they were ok, but the only thing that I liked was the green chile pork, it was good. The walls and furniture in this restaurant are painted with vibrant murals and colors. I love it because it adds great character to the building. Also, the customer service was on point. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and prompt. If you're not already semi-full from eating all the chips and salsa (you can't just eat one!), then you'll definitely be stuffed after eating your actual food. I ordered the combination plate (enchilada, taco, and tamale) and it was massive. The combination plates also come with a generous portion of beans/cheese and rice. I wasn't a fan of their crunchy taco, but I'm sure the soft tacos are good. On a good day the food is amazing but its a crap shoot whether or not it will be great on that day. I usually order the carne asada burrito just so i can tell if the food is improving or not. The service was ok, the server was very attentive and nice. I came to Pullman for a graduation... coming from California, I am used to great Mexican food and I was a bit disappointed. We ordered 4 different dishes and were not very satisfied with any of them. The shrimp cocktail was not tasty at all, the arroz con pollo was ok, the chipotle chicken was more like chicken tossed in ketchup and the carne asada salad had very rare carne asada. I'm from CA originally and grew up on traditional Mexican food, my time in this area has exposed me to some ... interesting interpretations of Mexican food, but at Nuevo Vallarta they make it just like home.
