I tend to stop here every other week. This is my go to spot for a quick pick-up and odds and ends. The staff is always friendly and the pricing is fair. They have a good Mexican beer selection, and great Mexican cookies/pastries. The store footprint is smallish, but they have all the conveniences of a grocery store, including a good deal on bags of ice. read more

Parking is ok, they have their own lot. However there are flies everywhere on their produce that they keep outside by the door, and the produce inside isn't much better. I stopped at the meat department too, and half of the meat was already rotting. I'll stick to my normal Hispanic grocery store, this one is no good. read more

Meat section is so terrible, i tell the manager every time , i hate buying meat there, gave them one more chance , last time i was there they cut up the carnecata like it was chunks of steak, so lazy, marnated meats/ chickens taste worse marinated, no special service like cutting up meat for you, they never have basic meats, like chopped up for tacos. They will try to sell you grey rotton meat, always looks rotton , and most workers are not educated on meats. (Will tell you meats not rotton) we dont have that meat, and someone else will say yeah. read more

I tend to come here often as it's the closest grocery store to my place and always find myself waiting in long lines at the cash registers. They always seem to be understaffed in cashiers. Then when you get to the cash register, you hear the employees complaining to one another about their personal stuff, how they are late to their lunch breaks, and even how bad their manager is with them. This is definitely stuff that shoppers shouldn't need to listen to. read more

WE RECEIVED ROTTEN TRASH CUTS FROM THE UPSET BUTCHER!: My mother went in the store to get some lamb for today's dinner, we live in alhambra and lamb is harder to come by there. We went to this location on South Pacific avenue. My mother asked the butcher if she could get two pounds of lamb and noticed the man was adding very fatty pieces to our bag, my mother politely asked if she could get a better cut of lamb, the man with an angry look shrugged her off and went to the back of the butchery then came back with a red bag that read "Numero Uno Market" he charged her for the bag all while being incredibly rude!! We then come home and we find out the cuts of lamb were ALL PIECES THAT WERE THROWN AWAY AND TOSSED IN THE TRASH FULL OF FAT! WE WERE CHARGED $12 FOR TRASH ALL WHILE BEING INSULTED! Wanted to give thanks to the older, bald gentleman, I believe a manager or supervisor at this store. While leaving the store, the handle on my reusable cloth bag broke. I turned to ask him if they sold any reusable bags inside, so that I could buy one. He said yes, and went inside to get me one. He returned and gave it to me for free! I realize this might not seem like a big deal but it was a very nice thing to do. I come here primarily for the meats + produce. I also enjoy their freshly baked sweet breads, cookies and whatnot. This was also the only store in San Pedro, where I could find canned oysters, which I needed for a recipe, a few years ago. Extremely disappointed. I don't often write negative reviews but I'm quite offended by my interaction his evening with the staff. Wouldn't let me pay with my credit card without my ID. Normally, I wouldn't mind the protocol if I observed everyone treated equally. However, cashier was unfriendly to me every time I went to the store, not acknowledging me or expressing annoyance by my presence, despite me observing her positively interact with other customers who spoke to her in Spanish. Manager came and was condescending when I asked if I could get a pass this time for not bringing my ID. Never deal with this at any other grocery store. read more

Numero Uno market is a mid size produce market. I really like to do my shopping here for fresh veggies, meats & fruits because they tend to be very budget friendly. They also have a local ad every week that arrives in your mail box, you ca see the weeks super specials! Parking is provided & if you dont have transportation they have a big grey van that will deliver you & your grocery's to your house. (you must spend a minimum of 30) AVOID during rush hour times cause it gets as packed as packed gets then you see people scrap'n for a parking spot. A good time to come is in the morning, the store is empty with plenty of parking spaces to choose from. Dont be shy to stop by if you just see a bunch of latinos theyre friendly plus like i said you can get some good deals if your BBQ'n this weekend. read more

Let me start by saying that I have been shopping at this little store since it first opened several years ago -- back when sharply-dressed, POLITE young workers would pull the groceries out of the customers' carts and place them next to the cashier. After my experience today with a particularly surly cashier, I felt I had to make this post. The store had a one-day sale on small avocadoes, 4 for $1.00. I placed 14 of the little guys into a produce bag and went to pay for them, along with a few other groceries. The cashier must not have believed me when I told her there were 14 in the bag. She then proceeded to untie the knotted bag with her two-inch fingernails. I couldn't believe that she didn't just count them through the bag itself -- which most cashiers have done in the past. She had to make this big production out of it. She counted them twice. I said, "There are 14, right?" And she agreed. I paid for them and started to leave. But based upon her bad attitude, I decided to check my receipt. Sure enough, she decided to pull a fast one. She charged me for 16, not 14. I was pissed. It was obvious that this gal had some kind of axe to grind with customers -- or else she was pocketing the extra cash. I went back to her, told her she charged me for 16 instead of 14. She then started to go through my other bag in the cart to make sure I was not hiding two small avocadoes. Honest to God. I couldn't believe it. She then started counting them all over again -- and it came to 14. She then had to call the manager to refund the 50 cents she owed me. I wasn't going to let this go. What she had done was so blatant. So here's the caveat: If you choose to shop at this store, be sure to check your receipt before you leave. I won't be going back there any time soon. This store needs to clean up its act. read more

I've gone to this store almost weekly for a year now and have had no issues until today. I went in to break a $2 for quarters and was hoping the store would do this. I asked an employee if I could get change they told me no problem and said to stand in line for a register and the check out person would give me change. There was only one line open so I waited 20 minutes until I got to the front at which point I was told I could not get any quarters. The lady then proceeded to laugh along with the customer she was just assisting (I think they were friends). This was a waste of my time and an insulting experience. read more

I go to this store when I want beef prep Mexican style, and veggies to eat the same day. I avoid high peak times like Wednesdays and weekends at noon, the store it's small and only a few cashiers open for the amount of people, so the lines are long, and it's difficult to shop around the lines. They usually have a great deal on tomatoes, oranges, avocados and cilantro. read more

The store is clean and well stocked with Mexican groceries. My kids used to frequent Numero Uno's when they lived across the street and through the alley. I assumed, incorrectly, that I could stop in and pick up a bag of chips to add to our lunch and maybe some flavored teas. Although there were chips the only recognizable chips were by Frito Lay so my choices were limited. Drinks were mostly Mexican sodas and a small sampling of Sobe and fruity Snapple drinks. I was trying to avoid stopping at Von's and ended up with no tea and a bag of Frito's that by the way took 3 people to figure out the pricing when I remarked they were advertised on a sign as 2 for $5.00. Pretty simple mid-sized Mexican grocery store w/ lots of goodies from south of the border. More like a small Mexican Ralphs/Vons than a carneceria or fruteria. It's got all the normal grocery products, except they're from Mexico. San Pedro has a large Latin population and I tend to be the only guero every time I go, but it's a good opportunity to practice mi espanol. They all speak English anyway, but I think they appreciate the effort. Excellent meat counter and this is usually where I come for my BBQing! I love their marinated meats! The al pastor is fabulous as is the carne adobado (pork steaks) and pollo asada. I can pick up all the necessities for a good BBQ here in one stop, including beer and ice. Nice. The produce section is filled w/ tons of great looking fruits and veggies that are always fresh and clean. Actually this is probably one of the cleanest and well kept stores I've ever been to and has excellent prices to boot. read more

The service in this place is terrible. Not enough cashiers so the lines start going into the aisles. Then when they do call for another cashier instead of taking the next person in line, it's a mad free for all. When you finally get to the register the employees are like robots. No smiles, no hello, maybe a grunt. This place used to give top knotch service but has really taken a turn for the worse in the last three years. read more

I remember when Numero Uno first opened - the customer service was OUTSTANDING! Their customer service set them apart from all the other grocery stores - showing their appreciation for the customers who shopped their store. Unfortunately those days are long gone! Not even a remnant of courtesy left to think that ever existed. To add insult to injury their prices have gone up tremendously in spite of Covid. I asked the manager today why such a substantial increase and he responded stating that he wasn't aware of any increase. The question to ask is why shop here. There product selection is limited, quality is sub-par, and they don't appreciate your business. There was a time I would drive out of my way to shop at Numero Uno but those days are gone. This place is very full and sells a wide variety of authentic Mexicano and gringo goods. I got the fajita prepped chicken and loved the quality of meat when I got back to my place and cooked it up. Numero Uno is a full-sized full-service Mexican supermarket just like you would find in a Mexican city, similar to a Superama or Gigante. If it can be imported from Mexico or made here by Mexican firms, you will find it at Numero Uno. This is not like shopping in the Mexican Food section of Vons -- it is for real. And at the same time, the very helpful and most pleasant staff is entirely bilingual, and the store seeks to serve anglophone clients. For me, it is the produce department that is the major draw. Fresh quality produce, all the usual plus the special Mexican varieties. Mangos and papayas to die for! And all at prices that seem more Mexican and American. A large selection of canned goods. If you like tropical fruit juices, this is the place to stock up on Jumex products at very attractive prices. The meat market, manned by several butchers, is extensive and has all the hard to find cuts/pieces popular in Mexico. The tripe is gorgeous. The beef, however, is ungraded and can be as tough as it is in central Mexico. A wide selection of cheese and dairy products makes it a sin for any San Pedran cooking ion the Cal-Mex style to use the "American equivalents" for any ingredient. The real stuff is right here, including balls of Oaxacan rope cheese. And, as one might expect, a very full selection of Mexican beers, refrescos and bottled waters. What I miss: no carnitas, and no Mexican wine. read more

WORST STORE EVER. The customer service is soooo bad! The cashiers pay zero attention to the clients because they are too busy gossiping with each other? Why should I have to know that Maria called in sick because her husband had the day off and she wanted to spend it with him? The cashiers don't even greet the clients because they are too busy gossiping and they don't listen to you if you tell them something because they are distracted. I had cashier by the name of L.Candela, and the guy in front of me told her she had charged him incorrect, but of course she was too busy talking to answer him back. So again he mentioned it to her and she rolled her eyes and said "yes I know and I already fixed it". When it was my turn to pay, no greeting, and I ended up bagging the stuff because if I would've waited for her to do it, I would've had to wait until she finished her conversation with the other cashier. Oh and don't bother complaining to the manager, she gossips as well, which is why the other cashiers think it's okay. PS: Let's not get started with the meat department employees! read more

Número Uno is good for getting some last minute ingredients (dry) or a Coke or Pepsi product from Mexico for $1 (that's what the extra star is for). For my lack of choices of markets like this, except for venturing all the way to Wilmingtonton for Northgate Market (my preferred choice) I am often stuck with this place. The workers are rude, and unless I pop off a little Spanish, I am barely acknowledged. The fruit is often no good, and too many times have I seen flies in the meat display racks. As I stated previously, last minute dry goods and Mexican Cola products are the reasons I come here and will continue to come, unless something else better comes closer. read more

From the exterior, this place looks like one of those 99 cents and under stores. Don't be fooled by the tacky choice of paint...this market houses some good ish. If you're a fan of grilling, head back to the meat counter and get some pre-marinated cuts of whatever they have to offer that day. It's your one stop shop for everything mexican. They have the best prices in town by far. It is clean and we buy all of our produce here. Fast check out and sometimes they even unload for you without asking. You seriously get twice for your money compared to Von's. It is small so they don't have everything but they have items like sopas and Mexican bread that others don't carry. read more

I have loved shopping at this store for a long time now. I love the produce and meat departments. However, I came in on Saturday, January 27th specifically for mangoes that were 2 for 88 cents. I was told by a produce clerk that they didn't receive any at all. I asked the manager for a rain check and was told no rainchecks.Obviously I was irritated over 88 cents. There is nothing in the ad stating no rain checks on these specials. I am hopeful that a team member will contact me regarding this matter. I would love to give them a new great review over resolution of a pair of stupid mangoes. read more

My wife and I shop here often. Its one of the best and cleanest Mexican markets in the area. We attempted a few other ones, but felt more comfortable in this one. My wife is Mexican and she loves shopping here for authentic Mexican ingredients for her cooking. We love that this place has everything we need for her dishes. The fruit is usually very cheap, and we have gotten the chance to try out some things she hasn't had since her childhood. We love UNO, and even though the cashier's aren't always the friendliest we can say we have never been "harassed" or been treated rudely either. The customer service could improve a bit; therefore, losing the 5th star from me. read more

They never have enough cashiers working. Sometimes only one with a long line. I have walked out after filling my cart because of the long lines. The store doesn't seem to care that people have better things to do and better markets to shop at than wait in a long line to give them business. read more

This is a good spot for prices, most everything is always at a good price, sometimes you dont get the best quality, but ya. Ive gotten meat from there a few times and sometimes its great and sometimes its very below par. You can choose various meats pre-marinated. They're thinly sliced or not too bulky which quickens the cook time. All you need is 3 tosses. A quick toss on the grill, a toss of tequila down your throat, and toss the cooked meat on a tortilla and repeat! read more

I give this store 4 stars because I really like this friendly neighborhood market not only is the customer service great but they even let you walk off with there shopping carts which I see all over San Pedro. So they lose a star for that! read more
