This is my closest grocery store and might be the most interesting store I've been to for people watching, besides Walmart. It's getting 5 stars for 2 reasons: 1. The bakers sometimes put extra brownies in the fresh brownies they have for sale in containers. I'll get like 4 extra large brownies or 9 Brookies instead of like 6. I consider this a win. And 2. They have a cute manager that works at night. Kind of spazzy, but at least it's something to possibly peak at while trying to score extra brownies. If I'm not being lazy and it's day time I usually go up to the one on Western. Very well stocked and a larger selection, but this place is fine if it's on your way home or to the beach. read more

I spend at least 1k/mo at this store to feed my family, but one day recently I had just a few items so I chose to use self-checkout as I often do when I don't get much. while scanning my items the rent a cop walks by and asks me if I scanned both packs of blueberries!..... like wtf are you serious $5.99 blueberries it took everything in me to not disrespect this clown and cause a scene. I went to the store to buy strawberries but I had gone to another store before here and I was walking. So I already had some items in a bag and the new security guard told me that I couldn't go into the store with items from another store so I needed to thigh up my bag. So the way I see it he assumed that I was gonna steal, I've been coming here for more than 10 years and never been treated this way. This has to be one of THE WORST Vons I've ever been to! Since moving to San Pedro 2 years ago, i've been shocked to this day that this is the only location where I have to get someone to open the display case to get a box of lactaid pills whenever necessary. Other issues have included: self checkouts constantly breaking down, dealing with rude employees behind the deli counter, as well as rude/insensitive people being on their phones while not paying attention to others around them. It was very good and kind that we skipped the long lines. There were two standard check out lines and both were spilling to the aisles so we went to the self-checkout where a helpful hardworking employee was helping five people at their own groceries where there was no one waiting and there was even one open self-checkout register scanner bagging area conveniently available for our one five dollar item. Can anyone help? I have called your customer service line, done everything necessary to get my discount. I have been promised 20% discount promo to be applied within 24-48 hours, nothing. I am disabled and care for my wheelchair bound husband full time and we are on a budget. The store brand and the people working there have worked hard to make this a safe and welcoming environment. They have hired a real security company with trained real security people in place and I enjoy shopping there now some of them are armed, and they are taking action on people shoplifting. They've also put up cameras in the parking lot and are being proactive with the community/neighborhood. The store definitely deserves or revisit. If you haven't been there within the last year big security upgrade very positive no nonsense is being tolerated at the store anymore and it's made of a pleasure to shop there again read more

I left this pharmacy becuz of MNGR & how filthy the counter was the whole store get sick every time!!! I went to Rite Aid Best thing that ever happen!!! Unfortunately after numerous complaints nothing's changed that Vons!!! Not only the outside is gross but the baskets everything in that store mice running around droppings in the bathroom so unprofessional but the pharmacy was okay when there was a leading name Alicia now that the manager NAH!!!! He's rude never acknowledges anybody never smiles just playing simple RUDE!!! I've had medication that was short. unfortunately Rite Aid closed so I will take my business to peninsula Pharmacy. I can make a long list of the horrible experience just in the pharmacy mainly the management. I've never experienced anything less than a friendly cashier, the store has always been clean and well-stocked, and the produce always seems to be fresh. My review is specifically for the order online and drive-up pickup service that Vons started offering during the pandemic. My family regularly uses this service as a way to do our part to reduce crowds in store and protect ourselves and others during this crazy time. When we first started doing it, it was fantastic. However, the past 5 or so grocery loads we've purchased have been horrendous. The in-store shoppers here DELIBERATELY pick out the very worst produce for drive-up customers. And I'm not just talking about produce that's a little small or an apple with a bruise. I mean MOLDY, rotting produce. Every single item that is not pre-packaged is disgusting and going bad. The last time we picked up groceries, several produce items were so completely rotted and unusable and had to go straight into the garbage because we didn't have time to make a return. Food waste is a huge problem in this country and the real solution is to produce less so that stores don't have food rotting on the shelves BUT if it does go bad in-store, VONS, a multi-million dollar company, CAN AND SHOULD WRITE IT OFF AS A LOSS. My family, on the other hand, can not. That is money from our grocery budget down the drain, which we can not get back. And now we have the added hassle of needing to replace the items or modify our meal plans for the week. I'm really tired of this store screwing their customers. This Vons has many issues that need to be addressed as soon as possible. First, they need a security guard in front of the building so we can feel safe entering and exiting the store. Second, both the deli and meet departments need to hire more people to tend to their customers. I stood up multiple times waiting for someone to help me at the counter for ten minutes or more without being acknowledged. The meat department has the worst customer service I have ever encountered with no one to help whenever they take a lunch break. Last week I asked management to find me a cart to do my shopping and after waiting for ten minutes I left empty-handed. Relative to other Vons locations, this one is just okay. I was looking for a particular organic drink which they did not stock BUT the staff went above and beyond to help me search for it. On the plus side, they have a big parking lot and an in-store Starbucks. The store location is a little older and the parking lot tends to be a mess, I go here with some frequency and it just never feels clean, organized yes, clean as in new and nice, no. HORRIBLE customer service... Kaylee not sure if I spelled her name right was down right rude. She works at the Starbucks. She called me an old lady and told me I was too broke to afford a dollar. She continue to name call and roll her eyes. When I asked to speak to her manager she tried to contact her and was unable to. She ended up getting someone named Daniel who was rude too. Told me they couldn't give me the managers name not like I asked for her number. Kaylee gave me the worse customer service I ever had. I felt like she discriminated on me and Daniel didn't even care. I caught him smirking to another coworker when I asked where do I make a complaint at. Probably because nothing would happen. She shouldn't be allowed to talk to people like that. Please note that the review that unfortunately went public and was posted was just a draft. Yes. This Vons is well-stocked and seemingly well-managed. There is a pharmacy inside as well as a Starbucks. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Management is responsive to suggestions. I particularly like the deli items offered, one of the latest of which has been a return of the skewered grilled chicken breast. I prefer the mild flavor of the chicken (rather than the Spicey), which is tender and seasoned well. Also like the new seafood salad with celery and other greens. The store also had some really attractive patio furniture on sale in August and September. Got some good half-off deals on a small patio bistro set (table and two chairs) as well as later on an umbrella and larger four-chair patio set in September. Really like my neighborhood Vons. Four and one- half stars! Don't know why the first review's rating is showing only one star on my end, as I initially rated this Vons four (4) stars. read more

Went in the morning 9/23/21 at 8:15 am to get a breakfast burrito. First off there was no wedges and no sausage available... okay I guess.. The guy seemed completely lost on how to make the breakfast burritos. I was there more than 25 min waiting for 2 burritos. I come home and my husband says the burrito is DRENCHED in chipotle sauce and wrapped wrong. The bacon wasn't cooked/ heated properly either. We usually love coming here for sandwich's and breakfast burritos but we're very very disappointed this time. I was also asked if we wanted a big burrito or small burrito?? I didn't know there were 2 different sizes for the same price. Once I said the bigger one I was given the same size burrito IM ALWAYS GIVEN. maybe training the staff a little better will help. Overall never had a real problem at this Vons. Very convenient and cashiers are always friendly and helpful. Today I went to pick up some raw shrimp and some cooked shrimp from the meat dept. Jesus was very friendly and immediately stopped what he was doing and asked if I needed help. I was not even really near the counter but was just looking from near the freezer area. I hate this Vons. There's all kinds of riff raff that hang out here, no matter what time of day, the parking lot is always dirty, and the lines are almost always long! And I mean down the aisle long. Most of the time, there are only two lines open and the cashiers aren't necessarily fast. Just hope and pray that you get someone just coming onto their shift, not at the end. Towards the end, they are slower, don't even say hello to you and don't even tell you what your total is. They just stand there and wait for you to notice your total, pay, and leave...on to the next customer. Most of their products are okay, but the fresh fruit and vegetables here sucks more than not. Most of the time there are gnats buzzing around, especially on the tomatoes, the fruit is bruised and it's old looking. I've come to this market several times and there's always some shit. Another day I came in and there was a HUGE spill right in front of the check out stands. It was very noticeable because it was so large and black. Why was it black, you say? Because it's obviously been there for awhile and whatever it was was all dried up. Gross!! Any other market would have mopped it up right away. This stain looked like it had been here for days. The fresh meat and fish section is a joke. That's the smallest counter that I have ever seen. The bakery section is decent. I go there somerimes for the fresh French bread. This is one thing that they do right. I've walked in before and they had just come out of the oven. It was still hot when the guy gave it to me. The workers around the store are helpful and nice and for the most part, most of the cashiers are, too. I only come here when I have no other choice; example...food cooking on the stove and I forgot an ingredient. It's not their fault the store sucks and needs to be renovated. This is the closest Grocery Store to my lair, so I shop here all the time out of convenience. It's a standard Vons; higher prices on many things but everything else is pretty much the usual: Clean stuff, Bakery, Starbucks coffee stand. The workers are are either young people that you'd see at an underground punk rock house-party or midlife pros have been in the grocery biz for years while they work on their side projects. What will sway your opinion to shop here or not is the sketchy characters in the parking lot or right outside the building. Many are panhandlers, some old toothless people, some young teens who want your change. There are also creepy watchers; guys who park, put the car in idle while they watch people in the parking lot. Do they follow people? Do they just jingle and jangle the change in their pocket? I don't know, and I don't stick around to find out. Oh, and another thing that bothers me about this place is how every time you go to the register, they ask you if you want to donate money to Cancer, or Haiti or some other non sense. I tell them no, and not to ask me again because I'm there a lot, but they say management requires it from them so they must do it. I don't have time to look into their donation program to find out if it's legit, so If I say don't ask me, just don't, man. I've avoided this place many times just because I hate this repeated begging from the cashiers. The last time They asked me to donate, I said no and pulled out a little jar from my sweatshirt with "Starving African Children' written on it, and asked him if he would like to donate. I want to comment on the meat manager, Wady. He gave me outstanding service with such caring and attention a few weeks ago while I was shopping. Answered all questions with a communication level so friendly and competent in this area of meats.
