Vons does a great job and they've got some longtime employees that make a real difference when you're shopping. There's also a manager that hasn't been there that long he is always helping his colleagues and in a check stand or working around the store and I've seen the energy at the store come back. It was so nice coming in to Christmas music and people wearing holiday cheer meat department has very friendly nice people that are also helpful and I love their pre-cut produce makes fajita night a breeze. Vons may be a little more expensive but it's worth it for the extra customer service and selection. Grocery store next-door only has one kind of hairspray no men's hair gel and one kind of mousse. Vons has better selection and I don't have to wait a long time for someone to come unlock the items I would like to buy great job to the Vons team. read more

This Vons is by far the best Vons in the neighborhood, clean, always stocked when needs to be. All the workers are great all local folks. Lately if you want steaks or chicken make sore you grab it before Sunday, seems like football season has got everyone grilling on Sundays. The only employees that aren't always completely rude are the cashiers. The deli workers are miserable and always make you feel like your bothering them when need anything. The meat department is the absolute worse though. They often take up to 10-15 minute to even come help you, then they just stare at instead of greeting you like a normal person much less someone who is being paid to help customers. I have shopped at the Vons store located at 1440 West 25th Street, San Pedro since 1989 (35+ years). While I appreciate that "service is not what it used to be", I am sadly getting used to spending $400-$500 for a grocery run, be ignored at the check out staff and have to bag my own groceries. But, the last 24 hours have left me angry and feeling like I was to blame for the lousy service. Last night I purchased a 6-pack of Pinot Noir wine for the holidays: 1 x Banshee ($15.29 special price), 2 x Meomi ($29.99) and 3 x Josh Cellars ($14.99 special price). The total was more than I expected so I asked the manager on duty to review the receipt. I did not have my reading glasses, took the bottles out of the carry bag for her to review and she said that all looked OK. I reviewed the receipt when I got home and noticed that I have been charged for 1 x Banshee ($15.29)and 5 x Meomi ($29.99). This morning I returned to the store with the wine in the same 6-pack bag and asked the manager to review the purchase again because I was overcharged for the Meomi and not charged for the Josh. I was directed to Christina a cashier who did not know what to do and had to ask the same manager how to perform a correcting transaction. I was finally issued a credit in the amount of $43.82. While I remain untrusting of their math, I could not put up with the attitude and lack of respect for a customer who had through no fault of her own been over charged by a significant amount. I remain disgusted at the rudeness and very poor attitude of both the manager and the checker. I live in hope that someone will take the staff aside and tell them that it is the customers who pay their wages and we should be treated with dignity and respect as we fork over our hard earned dollars to support them. The store decided not to address this as adults when I called, so I'm posting a review here. I went to the store this evening to grab a few items. One door was locked & the other door was open. There was a giant pumpkin that was rotting & moldy right by the open door & other pumpkins they were selling. I could smell it with my nose covered & I have a severe allergy to mold. There was no one at customer service, so I said something to the store employee who was standing near the self checkout stands. He said that he would need to talk to the manager from customer service and I said that I stopped by there, but nobody was there so he walked off and I continued shopping. There was another male employee who walked by me, and I addressed the issue with him and he gave me a creepy look and he got a huge attitude. I told him that I was serious, and he said "I have to go on a break, so there's nothing I can do". I said "why did you even offer to help me then?" I tried to address this without causing a scene but this jerk decided otherwise. I left my cart & walked out of the store without buying anything. I have been shopping at this Vons location for years only because of proximity and every time I leave the store I'm appalled at the lack of social skills of many of the employees (except for the great pharmacy staff). They hardly ever smile and many times the cashier will carry on a conversation with a co-worker without ever looking up at me. There are never enough cashiers at busy times and I can never find anyone to help me when I can't locate an item. In general I like the store experience, but they put my stuff in a bag when I didn't ask and then I saw display without a surcharge - silly me I thought it was free- but as I entered card info the cashier slipped the charge in on me. Then I go to check out where Henry is so rude. He was rude to a lady that left her wallet in her car, I offered to pay for her groceries but she was just embarrassed. This store is dirty and never stocked Smart and Final on th corner puts it to shame and never and open spot on the shelf. This VOns. Today gets better. Still out of TP. 75 allowed in store at a time but the employees were leaving the stores in handfuls to stock up their cars. Customer service at it's finest. my review today is just for the customer service at the service deli. Casey was helping me. Casey is fantastic. I asked if there was any Primo peppered turkey, Casey started looking through while saying, "Sorry I don't think so". Casey offered cajun turkey, I replied, "No thanks, maybe next time" i started to walk away, Casey said, " We have this blah blah (Casey said the correct brand name but I have already forgotten it) kind that's peppered, would you like to try it?" "yes, please! i'll take half pound!" simple everyday interaction with someone in retail right? well in my experience, over the last 10 years customer service is awful. younger workers especially lack CS skills, but plenty of not so young lack skills as well! Christina from the bakery is AMAZING! When I came into the store I thought I was just going to get a boring generic cake but Christina was so warm and helpful, I left with something much better. She came up to me asking if I needed any help and we just started talking. I ended up mentioning my daughter and her love of the Harry Potter books. Christina told me about a Harry Potter design she had been wanting to try. I decided to put my faith in her and wasn't disappointed. My daughter was in love with her cake! Some people would call this the nice Vons and the one on Gaffey, the Ghetto Vons. I always laughed. I actually went to the Ghetto Vons more often because it was bigger and closer. Both of them are okay. This Vons is nice because it's smaller and it's kept nice and clean. It IS located in a nicer area so that will be a plus for some people. I also remember this location had the heated employees during the strike. They would yell at customers entering and leaving the store. Funny, I didn't see that issue at the Ghetto Vons. read more

This is definitely a nicer Vons than the one on Gaffey and 13th. The parking lot is large, clean, and they have products outside the door, like water and plants...something they wouldn't do at the other one. There are also other small businesses in the lot, such as Subway, Ron's Jewelers, Malaga Bank, etc. It's definitely brighter up here, which could be because we are closer to the water, but it's just a nicer vibe. I don't see any riff raff hanging around and for that matter, I also didn't see any security. I only needed a few items to make my cajun shrimp tacos, so my intention was to go in and grab some limes, green onions, and tomatoes. Their produce section here was great. It was large, the produce was pretty and vibrant and it didn't look as dark inside as the one on Gaffey does. The lighting is tricky in that location, so you don't see how shabby the selection is. Walking into this one, I can see that the ambiance of Vons is meant to be less lighting or a little darker and it doesn't help with the dark wood floor by the produce section. If you go to Ralph's or Albertson's grocery stores, you will know what I mean. Those stores are very bright. I do like this location and I am so glad it's in my neighborhood. I'd rather go to this one than the one on Gaffey. They have a huge sign up that says, "Serving San Pedro since 1963." And they will now be serving me from 2015! :-) read more

We have been shopping here for years. The cashiers and staff are always so friendly. Whoever makes the pasta salads and coleslaw in the deli is a genius! We have never had a bad experience here. The store is OK. Some items are out of stock, but sort of expected considering the things going on in the world. My biggest gripe is how they handle their more expensive alcohol. You have to go up to the front and request someone unlock the booze. Then they take it up front. Apparently they can't trust you with the bottle. Then unless you ask again for the alcohol during checkout, it gets left behind. About half the time I get home without the alcohol after making an effort to purchase the product. Compliant #45107349 I and my 2 children are African Americans and we suffered from ethnic and racial discrimination at the hands of your 2 employees at your store on 10/02/2021. I purchases a lot of groceries worth about 300 hundred dollars and as they were falling off the cashier's tray.. and it was obvious that no one was assisting the cashier to bag any of our items purchased. At a point, I asked the cashier why our items were not a bag, and she stated that my kids could help with the bagging.. Observing other cashiers and customers .. it became obvious that other customers that were white.. were promptly been assisted with bagging and other related customer support. Responding to the cashier's request that my children could help, I requested to speak with the manager of the store. The manager arrived further stated when she arrived that if my children wants to bag the items.. it is up to them. She was hostile and stated that I was harassing her and then threatened to call the police. I responded that I have done nothing wrong, except requested why the cashiers wants me and my children to bag our groceries, and other customers were giving prompt assistance including bagging of their groceries. This ugly incident was very discriminatory and has caused me and my children emotional and other distress and suffering .. This incident was fully recorded on a phone video camera. read more

I want to THANKS everyone that was working 4/18 around 10:30am for all their kindness I was shown. I've never been to this location and it was my 1st trip out during this pandemic. I work 5 13hr shifts (nights) at two hospitals as a Respiratory Therapist and REALLY REALLY tried to avoid the stores but my fridge was crying lol. I stocked up on my meats (tall guy at the meat counter was very nice) and all kinds of goodies I couldn't believe was stocked. The gentleman showed me to the open register (no line!) and I was checked out by a very kind lady (loved her hair flow ). As I walked out, I seen the gentleman now cleaning the handles on the grocery carts. THANK YOU ALL SOO SOOOOO SOOOOO much for everything you all do and positive attitudes I definitely will be back! read more

My review is directed strictly at the deli department as I'm not a "regular" customer of this particular store.The folks in this deli are attentive and conscientious people with a clear "customer comes first" attitude Hard working people in that department and who clearly have an equally EXCELLENT manager whose taken the proper amount of time to train and teach as they've got a tight running ship! I needed to place an order for large Father's Day party and had called several other places around the Port area who couldn't come up with what I was needing. In fairness, much was due to Covid19 related unavailability issues, but this Von's deli knocked it out of the proverbial park, Covid19 or no virus. This location is less busy than the one on Gaffey but similar service provided. The Deli section can have a big due over staff is inattentive and makes you wait a king time to be provided service while they stand storing and talk or hide in the back. Having shopped at Vons in another area of Los Angeles that isn't near PV we can say that we almost died of sticker shock (high prices) when we went into this Vons. Just about every item we saw was 50 cents to $1.00 higher than our old Vons. We suppose that if you shop deals only, you might come out OK but sometimes we don't want the WORK of having to sign up for special deals via the Von's JUST FOR YOU gambit online. We just want everyone to get the lowest price without games, without having to search the store for 5 fers or 10fers, without having to run our phone number through, without couponing. Don't understand a store so nice doesn't provide better service. They are clean and well stocked with food. My favorite area is the Deli section that offers cold cuts and hot food. If you have not tried the Chicken Habanero, I would recommend you do. It's finger licking good. The side Sushi is also good. Get with it offer better customer service. read more

This Vons is close to our home so we go here pretty often. It was renovated 2 or 3 years ago and is all snazzy inside, wearing the new Vons livery. It's in a medium sized strip mall near the corner of 25th & Western, right next to and across the street from the military housing complexes, and you can access it from both streets. This Vons has pretty much everything you could ask for in a grocery store, but the prices can be a little high unless you are a Vons club member (free to join). The pharmacy here is excellent - you can tell that they know most of their patients personally and they always go above and beyond to take care of you. There is also a Starbucks and a Wells Fargo ATM inside. I took one star off because this Vons tends to have a fair amount of solicitors outside and, more recently, some rather aggressive panhandlers. The younger ones walk up behind you as you are going to your car and then ask for money when you are isolated out in the parking lot. Because of this, my wife does not go there alone at night anymore. Even though this is the "nice" part of San Pedro, there has definitely been a more pronounced shady/criminal element in town the past few months, so just be on your toes. read more
