First time trying out Peruvian Cuisine and it was totally enjoyable! @nunatoronto is a great spot for unique food and it's no wonder it came so highly recommended. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is beautiful decorated and there is even a patio at the back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Octopus Anticuero was so tender, accompanied by the cauliflower purée and the Pork Aeropuerto has quite distinct flavor and totally melts in your mouth. On Wednesday, they also have $1 and $2 oysters, though it wasn't mentioned on their social that a drink purchase was required in order to benefit from this special. We finish off with their Lucuma Tres Leches Cake, which was to die for The restaurant also takes part in Summerlicious but the group I was with decided not to take part and the restaurant requires everyone at the table to opt in. Worst experience from start to fish. Service awful the lady had a bad attitude from the start. Oysters come with no horseradish and she said they don't have any in the kitchen - sure. Calamari was awful rubbery and the crispy parts were falling off and came with no lemon wedge. The coke we ordered in a can came open and with zero carbonation like they brought one that's been open for hours. The steak came well done when supposed to be med rare. My partner cancelled his steak as he didn't want to wait for them to remake it and she brought it anyways saying it was already in the process of being remade. Not what you do when cancelled. My Pinot Grigio was warm, had to put ice in it. When the bill came they charged us $40 for a dozen oysters when there is a sign up that said $2 oysters. The server wouldn't honour that and said that sign was from yesterday and then freaked out. No manager came by one time to apologize for all the stuff going wrong. Service, drinks and food going wrong is a trifecta I haven't had before. Not honouring your own sign is wild to me. read more

I ordered takeout from this Latinx-owned, Peruvian restaurant while I was in town on business and it easily won me over. My food was ready fairly quickly, the staff greeted me right away and handed over my meal, it was packaged well and still warm when I got back to my hotel. I ordered the pan seared salmon with gnocchi, pesto, tomatoes, and asparagus. I also got the corn fritters with a side of their rhubarb chutney and yogurt dipping sauce. Both were incredible. It was just enough food to where I felt pretty full but I wasn't uncomfortably full. It was also pretty affordable for dinner. The salmon was cooked perfectly with a nice crisp on the outside. The pesto was flavorful and the gnocchi was lovely. You could tell they made them in-house. The fritters were fried the perfect amount and the chutney and dipping sauce were excellent condiments. I would order both again in a heartbeat. I had friends in town the very next week and let them know that this hidden gem is where it's at! read more

It took a Yelp experience last month that brought me to Nuna Kitchen & Bar, which is a Peruvian eatery. I enjoyed my experience so much that I returned to check out its tasting menu. I parked on Queen Street West just after 6 pm on a Saturday evening. It's Green P parking. I paid with my app on my phone. Easy peasy. Alternatively, you can try your hand at parking on a side street. I tried going down one street and couldn't find a parking spot. I had made my reservation online for 6:15 pm. I was able to specify that I was here to try the tasting menu. It's basically a set three-course menu for $65. I walked in to the eatery. A woman immediately greeted me. I let her know that I had a reservation and stated my name. She immediately pulled it up on her tablet and seated me in a cozy corner. You have choices for the starter and main on the tasting menu. The dessert is fixed. I chose the following items: - Crab bisque - Risotto with lomo - Lucuma cheesecake My server was patient and helpful. He answered all my questions and was extremely attentive filling my glass with water, and timing each course. The crab bisque was amazing. It had chunks of crab meat in the best stock that I have ever had. I wanted to lick the bowl. I did a good job making it look like I did with my spoon. It was excellent. I was asked how I wanted my ribeye steak cooked in my risotto with lomo. I went with medium. It was pure perfection. The steak was flavourful and tender. I loved the creamy risotto with the best cherry tomatoes and onions that accompanied it. The lucuma cheesecake was so good. Lucuma is a fruit that has a mild citrusy taste. It worked well with the creamy cheesecake. The dark chocolate curls on top were a nice touch. The washrooms are on the main floor. The one that I used was a single stall and was clean. I paid with a credit card. I tipped and all went well. I thanked my server and happy left with a tummy full of amazing food. This place does have specials besides the tasting menu. In the far far west exists a Peruvian resto bar. A fun quaint place serving up some creative Peruvian food and drinks. Great place for dates and meetups while you chomp on some delicious Latin American food! A buck oysters - In this day and age a dollar oysters are harder to find. Nuna offers this every Wednesday! The taste of the oysters varies a bit, but still good to eat and no tummy issues after. Well worth the money! Octopus anticuchero - Wowie a beautiful looking dish, and an even tastier one! Octopus was cooked right so it had the right amount of chew. The octopus was also charred nicely. The creamy sauce was also very delicate and very well balanced so it added flavour without taking away from the octopus. Highly recommend! Lucuma Tres Leches Cake - Another wowie another amazing cake. Tres leches is not my typical goto cake as its usually soggy. Food - we came on a Thursday so it was the steak and wine special for $35. We've had it before and couldn't resist. Their steak is really flavourful and paired well with the potatoes and wine. The food was amazing. Such a great blend of spices, with every component working well together. My favourite was probably the potatoes just because I'm just getting into potatoes and appreciating just how versatile they are. The creamy and spicy sauce paired well with the potatoes and tender chunks of beef. NglI damn near got a second round. I originally asked to substitute the cauliflower purée for rice but decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. It was extremely smooth and creamy, and it paired surprisingly well with what tasted like a hot pico de gallo garnish. The grilled octopus was good as well. My friend didn't think it was as flavourful as it could be but I generally think octopus are usually flavoured by the mode of cooking? Like it tastes nice and grilled and is paired with whatever sauce. I don't expect a burst of flavour minus maybe a lemony or vinegary taste to them in addition to whatever sauce. The fried rice wasn't my favorite. It wasn't heavily seasoned, which I appreciate, however I wasn't too fond of the sweetness in the sauce for both the pork and the rice, it felt like they relied on the sauce to give most of the taste. In our quest for a "go to" Peruvian restaurant, Nuna takes the prize in Toronto! We enjoyed the ambiance, very niche and quaint restaurant. The service was good, we enjoyed the level of hospitality. For the food, the ceviche was spot on, I enjoyed the crunch of the corn. I missed the soft and fresh corn though. The Yuca fries and the sauce are a must. The lomo saltado hit the mark, a bit of a different recipe than we were used to, but ended up being pretty delicious regardless. The octopus was tasty and presented well. I can here for a quick dinner with my husband on a Saturday night. I was kind of disappointed that Nuna didn't open earlier than 6pm as I had to get to the symphony for 8pm. Luckily we were the first to arrive and though we placed our order right away, it still took longer than expected for the food to trickle out from the kitchen. Within 15m of us being seated at 6pm, the small dining space was almost at capacity (minus the seats at the bar). I can't imagine how long it'll take to get our food if we had all ordered at the same time. Anyway, back to the drinks and food. My husband order the Lima, which was quite refreshing, and I had the Nuna Spritz made with Aperol and sparkling wine - it was pretty and delicious. We started with the yuca fries and mussels. Yuca fries were thick cut, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The broth that the mussels were in were perfect, not too salty and not too fishy. I also had half a dozen fresh PEI oysters, they were fresh and easily slid down my throat. For the main, we both ordered the octopus with cauliflower puree. I'm not familiar with Peruvian spices, but the octopus was delicious, not over or undercooked and the cauliflower puree was an excellent pairing choice. The restaurant is small so I do recommend you make a reservation. The 2 servers and 1 bartender seemed like a good ratio to the number of patrons that were there. This restaurant and their food is absolutely divine. I've never had Peruvian food but I am so glad I did. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. The restaurant plays great music and feels so warm and cozy. We ordered the braised beef gnocchi and shrimp risotto. Both were delicious but the gnocchi was DIVINE! It was so soft and mushy that I didn't even realize that it was pasta, thought it was a kind of potato. The pulled short rib was delicious too, great combo. Food: 4.5/5 From taste, price, to portion size, there are nearly zero complaints. We ordered several small dishes to share between 2, which offered generous portions and a great start to the meal. The Nuna Ceviche is an absolute must! One of the most unique and splendid ceviches I've had in the city, which is a lot as I always order ceviche if I see it's on the menu. The crunch from the corn alongside large and generous chunks of seafood soaked in the most refreshing acidity... this really sets the ceviche standard and is a far cry from the typical 5 bites of thinly chopped seafood scraps other Toronto restaurants offer in their so called ceviche. Croquettes were also excellent, very heartwarming feel and nice to have a warm appetizer as the rest of the apps are served cold. I would skip the corn fritters next time as I'm personally not a huge fan of sweet foods and sauce but my friend throughly enjoyed them. Another standout I recommend is the Causas, of which we ordered the octopus. Absolutely divine, so well balanced and generous portions at such a reasonable price. As for the main, we ordered the Prok Aeropuerto. While I'm not a fan of sweet foods, I absolutely loved the texture of this dish. The skewers, that also came with a few small potatoes, had a sauce that was amazing. The risotto with perfectly cooked with it being the creamiest and most satisfying risotto I've had at a restaurant, with wonderfully tender shrimp and surprisingly good peas that gave it a little crunch as they were slightly undercooked on purpose. The pork belly was so well done you could cut it with a fork and was served with bok choy and a sweet potato purée that were paired wonderfully with a few turnips. The place itself was small and homey. Everyone from staff to other patrons were amazing. We bonded quickly with our server over influencers at the next table. The flavours are distinct, the quality of ingredients is topnotch, prices are a bit high but worth it, and the service is impeccable. We stopped by for dinner and did a whole lot of eating. - Nuna Ceviche: Delightfully spicy-acidic, like all great ceviches are. The seafood they used was fresh and plump. The generous amount of corn nuts added a textured pop. Definitely worthy of having the restaurant's name on this dish. - Yuca Fries: There was an almost nutty taste to these fries which I loved. The generous amount of huancaina dip on it added a great bite to the starchiness of the fries. - Octopus and Cauliflower Puree: I love octopus and am very judgy about it. Nuna does theirs really well - tender and almost milky. Also, the puree was so smooth. - Shrimp Sliders: All you need to know is the shrimp patty was full of delicious shrimp (versus extenders). - Gnocchi al Pesto: The gnocchi were pillowy bites, but the star was the short rib strips braised to perfect taste and tenderness. - Lemon Pie: Properly tarty, great nutty crust. - Passion Fruit Mousse and Brownie: A great dessert. You definitely need to take a video of this! 5. Jasmine ($16). Campari, Amaro noninvasive, bourbon, lime. 6. Carvadeo, a pisco - made from grapes (shot glasses $8). A bottle would cost $49. Food: 1. Pork Bao ($15). Miso mayo, pickle turnip, pork belly, sweet & sour sauce. The bao and pork belly are excellent. There is a veggie  version available using a portobello mushroom. 2. Panko Crispy Shrimp Bites ($16). With a passion fruit reduction sauce. So delicious. 3. Marinated Octopus & Cauliflower Pure ($26). Octopus with Peruvian special marinade, charred cauliflower, and chalaquita salsa. The octopus was tender (not chewy) and the marinade was delicious. 4. Nuna Ceviche ($25). Grouper, octopus, tiger shrimp, spicy leche de tigre, sweet potato, canchitas. It had a perfect cheviche taste and perfectly tender seafood. I've never had canchitas (Peruvian popcorn) which was slightly salted; it was amazing! 5. Garlic Wine Shrimp Risotto ($24). Arborino, nuna  special shrimp sauce, red bell pepper, peas, cilantro. The risotto was perfectly cooked. 6. Yuca Fries ($10). With huanaina dip. The fries and dip together were a perfect fit. Dessert: 1. Tres Leches Cake ($15). The cake is drenched with a mixture of 3 milks: evaporated milk, 35% milk, condensed milk. The top is covered by soft fudge. It  was so good I couldn't have enough of it ... I want more! 2. Peruvian Flan ($14). Peruvian flan is thicker/denser than the French flan. Nuna means "soul" in their indigenous language. Peruvians are super picky about their food so it is important that food tastes good; best made by a Peruvian chef (eg, Sergio). All food are sourced locally. Everything is made in-house by the chef except for very few items. Sergio is an owner and chef. Jasmine is an owner, server, marketing, etc. They cook their pork at 65C for 2 hours and used it for the Pork Bao and Glazed Pork Chop Chaufa. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible (but not outside patio). There are two gender-neutral washrooms that are also wheelchair accessible. There are high chairs for toddlers. Met a friend here on a Friday evening off an IG recommendation. The Ambiance was incredible, they had a DJ playing classic R&B and dance music. We were late for our reservation (Toronto traffic) but the staff were gracious enough to make it work. The service was great. The Peruvian food & drinks.... delicious. read more

I tried the following two dishes: 1) Nuna Ceviche: Octopus in a marinade that was the right balance of acid and fruitiness, with some roasted corn nuts. 2) Marinated Octopus & Cauliflower Puree: The cauliflower puree was very buttery and tasted similar to mashed potatoes. Because it has been heavily blended, it didn't retain the texture of cauliflower and really diidn't taste like cauliflower either. Octopus was delicious! Although the portions were small and on the, pricier side everything I tried was mouth-watering and ingredients were of good quality so overall good value, would return to try the other items on the menu. read more

A true hidden gem in the heart of Parkdale. Nuna brilliantly portrays Peruvian cuisine with a western twist. Had the pleasure of meeting the owners Sergio & Jasmine and they were some of the nicest people I've ever met. You can truly see their passion through the dedication and quality of their dishes. A must-try cocktail here is their Pisco Sour. Think of a whiskey sour, but instead of the whiskey it's made with Pisco. Pisco is a city in Peru which is essentially a brandy (made from grapes). Some of the dishes I tried here were the marinated octopus & cauliflower purée. The octopus was cooked perfectly. Extremely soft and delicate with a nice bounce when you bite into it. The purée had a pico de gallo salsa on top which added a nice fresh contrast and textures to the dish. Being of Chinese/Vietnamese background, I am very fond of baos and the pork belly bao here does not disappoint. They actually use mantou buns which is extremely rare to see in most bao restaurants. 10/10 must have every time you come here. The shrimp risotto was extremely flavourful with a nice Al dente bite in the Arborio rice. The shrimps were plump and juicy and the flavour profile is immaculate. The ceviche is by far the star of their restaurant. The grouper is fresh, the shrimp and octopus both had a nice chew to them. The citrus used in the dish was a very nice addition to enhancing the flavours. The corn nuts (canchitas) added a nice contrast in textures. This is the perfect dish for a hot summer day. Overall if you've never had authentic Peruvian food you should check this place out. There is a nice patio in the back and the washrooms are also extremely clean. A true 10/10. read more

We were excited to try Nuna from all the photos and Instagram tags. Smaller interior that seems to be missing something to create a "warmer atmosphere " we didn't see the back patio but it is dog friendly as we saw a few pups being carried to the back! Food portions were LARGE compared to what we were used to, we found the ceviche a little salty. Kale salad was a fav and tuna tartare was as expected as was the steak. The marinated octopus with cauliflower purée was amazing! It was a little too salty at first so they redid it - was perfect the next time. Shrimp risotto was very good as well, although maybe less memorable. Yuca fries are simple but a very interesting texture if you haven't had it before. Ceviche was fresh, many interesting textures. Little small on portion BUT octopus was tender and sauce was delicious . definitely the best dish I had from here. * chef's Recommend rotisserie chicken breast 2/5 I would give this dish 1 but fried potato was 5/5 and salad was not bad as well. Unfortunately the dish we were most excited about was the most disappointing dish of the night. Chicken came out lukewarm (it was near cold) and chicken sauce was blend and boring. It reminded me of microwave chicken. Service was good. Nothing to complain or write a home about. Overall, I still don't understand all the hype. maybe I went there on bad day?
