When they said lines go down the block? Yup they weren't kidding! Came twice and the first time? We arrived 1:45pm and there were a few people already waiting. Second time? Arrived at 2pm and there was a good amount of people there. Yet the lines moved quickly, CASH ONLY spot, in and out, easy. Dude the ice cream?! It's soooo freaken GOOD! You can taste how fresh the ingredients are like they just made it in the back room! Def a spot you don't want to miss if you're in this small quiet town! Love love this place. There's a line out the door for a reason. Their portions are HUGE there is a lot of places to sit outside. They serve turkey hill ice cream at the best prices around. I believe they do cash only though. I hate carrying cash but I will suck it up for them! They make amazing Sundays. They have all kinds of ice cream and dessert options. I think they could probably even benefit from selling some baked goods too. read more

Thursday 5/2/2024 Just a heads up: This ice cream spot takes cash only, doesn't do ice cream samples, and is strictly takeout for ice cream. I got a 4 scoop cup (vanilla, chocolate, and 2 cookies n cream) $3.82. One thing I immediately noticed was that the portions are HUGE and the prices are amazing. On the other hand, The ice cream taste was pretty mid and it reminded me of store bought ice cream. And I wouldn't be surprised if that store bought ice cream was turkey hill due to it being on their website and the taste being similar. Overall, this ice cream spot has amazing prices and even better portions but the ice cream itself is mid and average to me. read more

We stopped here for ice cream and the line was out the door and almost around the building. They only allow 10 people in there at a time. What they call a small isn't small at all and it's only $2!! When you step into this store, it's like rewinding the (cassette) tape to a time before WW2 or Vietnam. This is a small-town ice cream shop from back in the day. Maybe back before your day, definitely before mine. The decor was quirky and homey, I was charmed. Yeah, but what about the ice cream, you say. Was super on-point. They had a wide variety of flavors, but we went with pistachio-almond, cookies and cream and chocolate chip (we're boring like that). They were all bursting with flavor and struck that hard-to-hit note between too little and too much heavy cream. Smooth, silky texture with just enough body. The other retro thing about Nutters? The prices. I haven't seem prices like that since long before the pandemic. The same ice cream in Georgetown, DC or Cambridge MA will run you three times as much. We were staying nearby for a few days touring the Antietam battlefield in September. The weather was warm and some ice cream was called for. Nutter's was one of the highlights of our 2 month trip! The line moved quickly, the ice cream was some of the best we've ever had and the portion size was huge. We ordered 2 "small" cups. The Mrs. had "Apple Pie" with chunks of pie crust, apple and cinnamon. I had the peach with luscious chunks of fresh peaches. Both were amazingly delicious...and the price was $4.70 TOTAL! read more

I suspect that they're running a longitudinal study to determine how much ice cream a person will eat in a single sitting if you give it to them. I asked for a kiddie-size cup. What I got was a serving the size of an actual kiddie. Seriously, it was just shy of a pint and it cost like $.32. Okay, I'm exaggerating on the low price (but it was crazy cheap) but I am NOT using hyperbole about the size. Honestly, I think if I'd ordered a regular, they'd have just pulled the whole delicious bin out of the cooler and handed it to me with a spoon. And charged me $1.56. I am not complaining. I was gobsmacked by the generous (ludicrous) portions and nostalgic prices. And make no mistake, the ice cream itself was wonderful! (I mean, who wants a ton of something bad, no matter how cheap it is?). The blueberries and cream flavor had nice little Maine blueberries in it (and they were not frozen pebbles of blue tooth-smashing pain). I've been coming to Nutters over many years, every time I visit the area, because it is the best bang for your buck. I rave about the ice cream place to all my friends back in CA. It has been one of my favorites. You get a ton of ice cream, it's delicious and it's a great value. However, I've noticed the customer service has become awful. The ladies working were beyond rude to me. I asked for a sample and she practically yelled at me "We don't do samples!" Well, they used to a few years ago, so how was I to know. They didn't appreciate at all that I was there. It was like they wanted me to get out of the store. When I was looking at the flavors, the lady kept pushing me to order asking if I am ready and it was clear I wasn't and there was no one else in the store. On both occasions when I went this week, the different people working never said thank you or hello. They were unpleasant to be around. We even left a tip for the older lady who was so rude, and she didn't even acknowledge the tip or say thank you or goodbye when we left the store. She was just constantly annoyed and there wasn't anyone else in the store except us. So rude. If the price weren't so good, I'd never come back because the staff was so mean to us. It's sad because I have been a loyal and loving customer for so many years. I wish I could have a joyful time there again. read more
