I have been going here for 15 years now and would give them a 10 star rating if I could. The staff is professional and lovely, the doctor top-notch. Dr. Murphy opened up the practice during Christmas to treat my abscess, Dr. Hoffman has been efficient, friendly and always responsive to concerns, Dr. Orlich has done both of my implants and I had a great experience. I have seen various dentists over 9 years of having my routine dental cleanings and x-rays at Round Rock Dental. I have not had any issues with them trying to sell me unnecessary services, or any issues with the hygienists or dentists. Fortunately, I have not needed any emergency care, so I cannot share any experiences with those needing urgent dental care. Overall, I recommend this business. read more

Round Rock Dental Group has incompetent staff & financial representatives that manage billing claims & processing. I am a retired military veteran with BlueCross BlueShield Federal Employees Program (FEP) Dental Insurance. When conducting my initial consultation for composite bonding the financial representatives requested my medical insurance. They wanted a primary/alternate insurance card. I stated the only alternative insurance I had was my Tricare Medical Insurance Card. I gave them my Tricare Card in order to verify. These incompetent staff members processed a dental claim with my medical insurance creating issues and conflicts with my Tricare Healthcare Insurance claims. This claim conflict took several weeks to clarify with Tricare in order to properly process my actual medical claims. Furthermore Round Rock Dental Group financial representative stated that the Dental Claim had to be processed through the medical insurance company and denied before the Dental Insurance would accept it. I called and confirmed with BlueCross BlueShield FEP Dental Insurance this is an absolute false and ridiculous claim. BlueCross Blue Shield stated the composite bonding is covered and the claims are submitted directly and does not require any denial from Tricare. The dental financial representative was not knowledgable on veterans dental insurance policy & requirements. This confusion could have been avoided by calling the phone number on the back of the dental insurance card. I would never utilize dental services at this place due to poor staff knowledge & expertise. I found the dental work & staff to be lost, confused, overbooked & lacked proper communication when conducting care. Additionally, I had Zoom Tooth Whitening done and I was quoted $399 over the phone. When I came in for the consultation to speak with the doctor, she asked "why am I getting Zoom whitening." I explained I did not want to deal with trays and they were the only place in town that had the Zoom whitening available. Then all of a sudden the cost for the treatment is increased by $100. This place is real slick and full of tricks & foolery to make more money. Take your business to a better ran & trust worthy establishment if this is the way they treat not only veterans but their patients. read more

Dr. Dawes is so educated and helps me understand what he needs to fix if there is something and explains the long term care with it. I had pain in a molar, which turned out to be cracked. They were able to do a crown same day, which i have never before experienced! (Like i said, state-of-the-art). They explained everything and showed me the x-rays. And i never had a moment of discomfort! Dr. Eric Hoffman was the best! I had an appointment at RR Dental Group last week. Everyone including the dentist was very nice. At my consultation I told the hygienist what I was there for and she took x rays. The dentist came in and explained that after viewing my x rays the only procedure he would recommend would cost around 7,000 or more. Before I left he said someone from the office would send me an email breaking down the cost for everything and info on financing options. When I received it, I replied stating that I could not afford the cost and would like to make another appointment for a procedure that was less expensive, I never received a reply. I sent another email reiterating the same just in case they never received the first but never heard back. Since they replied when I had a question about the first email they sent but not when I told them I could not afford it, my conclusion is that they are only interested in how much money they can get from you. read more

It recently came to my attention, much to my chagrin, that private dentists are legally allowed to charge whatever they choose for any service they provide. For the middle class folks, and those on a fixed income like myself, it is virtually impossible to afford their prices. And, whether all of their estimated services are necessary is another topic. All I wanted was a set of dentures, after a lifetime of mouth pain and expense. So I was forced to dentist shop for one that I could afford who would provide the requested services and not add unnecessary frills that cost out of this world. Instead of telling me the truth, that my teeth should all come out because they were not viable, this dentist wanted to "save" most of them, which would put a sizeable profit in his pocket by repairing badly decaying teeth. But my research revealed that even his fee for an extraction was double most other dentists that were not private practices but instead national chains. I think it is offensive and disrespectful for a dentist to ask you if any family members can help you pay for his $12000 estimate, instead of tailoring the treatment to the patient's wishes. So much for capitalism that leaves in it's wake many casualties. read more

Finally, after multiple issues, we are finding another dentist. Sad, because Devin? who cleans our teeth is so good with us--especially my special needs son. Unfortunately, this office, like others, has a dentist more concerned about profit than people. We had to go elsewhere for teeth straightening as well due to the dentists profit-over-people mentality. So, buyer beware. You only need 1 exam a year for any treatment by state law. This dentists decided not to follow the law, tried to convince me it didn't matter since he could bill the insurance [is that fraud?] and I even offered to let him examine me at no charge as he indicated he had to "feel" good about my teeth before he could authorize a cleaning. His concern went away after I said I wasn't paying him. I am done with them (moved on to Tarry Town dental) for a couple reasons. Although the doctor was super nice, I do feel like sometimes you need to set pride aside and let a specialist do something. After being pushed into letting him do my gingivectomy (google that, no fun) the procedure "proved more difficult than he thought" Needless to say I was in such pain only to discover it was infected. I am sure this could happen to anyone but seeing that I had asked to see a specialist for this procedure this turned me off. The final strike was when I had the nerve to ask for gas for my upcoming crown appointment. Talk about making someone feel like a heroin addict. I have never been more appalled by a staff's behavior in my life. She actually got up from her chair, left for a few minutes and kept trying to talk me out of it. A little background on this tooth. The root canal was done in Iraq by a military doc back in 2005. Instead of putting a crown on it they put a big nasty filling (very routine in military) My dentist "thinks" all the nerves should be gone and this will only be a quick 2 hour procedure but no one can tell for sure. I am soooo sorry I feel more comfortable being a little gassed up God forbid a root is still intact. What a horrible drug-addict I am!! read more

Dude, when the hell do we get to the review? Well kids, the answer is A.....and in this context, Dr. Joseph Murphy is my type of mechanic. And with that, Round Rock Dental is a great shop to get your work done, sonz. And like any good mechanic, they have LOTS of good magazines to read and TV to watch while you wait (after all, isn't that the true litmus test of a great dental office?). Plenty of parking, great building, terriffic waiting areas (wow - do people really mention the quantity and variety of mags in their dental reviews?), an overall relaxing facility with all the high tech implements and live pics your toofs (at least the ones you have left in your head), and all that fancy-schmancy crap you Round Rock nancy-boys apparently need in a dentist. They have great hygenists, and Dr. Murphy has a very relaxed manner that shows he is a true pro. No overcharges here folks, as they have great folks in the insurance office to deal with those crooks or they can provide you with a quote for that new grill you always be wantn. I like them so much I have been driving from S. Austin to Round Rock for 3 years time so I can keep the toofs I have and keep my grill in line. For now.....Class dismissed! read more

Used to love going there, but have now not been in over a year because they have changed so much. I am not a problem dental patient, and hate to think how people with issues must be treated. I have come to realize that the most important person for dental care is the hygienist. If all is well, THIS is the person who determines whether you like your dentist or not. RR Dental not only neglected to advise me beforehand that my perfect hygienist had retired, they also treated me like it was no big deal. It IS a big deal when every other hygienist I ever dealt with there hurt me for no reason. I have no dental issues, so there is no reason for that. These guys have probably lost my and my family's business for not recognizing the importance of the hygienist. read more

I am willing to drive 25 minutes and pay tolls to get to Round Rock Dental because: 1) Dr. Michael Smith is kind, patient, gentle and handsome. 2) Dental hygienist Kathy is gentle and funny. I had my teeth cleaned recently and we chatted about a lot of things. She made me laugh with these little nuggets: ---"I have boys. Some of my friends say girls are mother's little helpers. I say Pinot Noir is mother's little helper." ---"You never really potty train boys. Even as adults they still pee on the floor at 2 in the morning." 3) The building, equipment and furniture are clean and new. They have a lot of magazine options. They also have chenille throws if you get chilly. read more

I have had a dental phobia ever since getting an awkward root canal done in a tent run by generators during the Iraq War. I knew that I had several (very expensive) issues that needed to be addressed. I had gone to a couple of dentists, and I never felt that bond that I oddly expected from a dentist. I randomly saw RRDG since I drive past it every day and decided to give it a shot. Dr. Lucero has got to be one of the coolest guys in the world. He has a very upbeat attitude about how he's gonna help you, but I never feel like he is overdoing it. His assistant, Danni, is one of the nicest ladies in the building, and I always get a great vibe from her. They even told me I had to see a hygienist named Jesse because he was the best. Boy were they right!!!!! I have had nothing but great experiences and that is saying a lot from a dental phobic like myself. I just get the feeling that everyone really cares there! Thanks read more

Round Rock Dental is simply an awesome dental group! My dental insurance recently lapsed and expired and I had to get a new insurance plan....and I was willing to pay more money for a plan that continues to allow me to see Dr. Blake Dawes and his hygienist, Trish. Dr. Blake Dawes is a super friendly, easy-going, very helpful, and he actually cares about you. He doesn't try to "up-sell" any services that other dental groups are known to do. Trish, the hygienist, is also very friendly and is very good at what she does. Probably the best hygienist that I have ever had! I have never had a bad experience at Round Rock Dental. I imagine the other dentists in the group are just as awesome as Dr. Blake Dawes is. Give them a call! read more

Just wanted to add that Dr. Hoffman's second opinion was that my child had no cavities. The other dentist said he had 4 cavities. She was going to drill 4 holes in healthy teeth. Thanks to Dr. H, he avoided drilling and to this day has never had a cavity. read more

It's not a good sign when it takes 8 appointments to fix a broken tooth due to Dentist not being in the office all the same day as patient appointment. Its still not fixed 12 months later. My first visit here was to have a tooth pulled. They were able to get me in the same day, and even though I had no insurance, it was still affordable. Dr. Hoffman and his staff are wonderful, very courteous, caring, and easy to talk to. They put my anxiety to ease and my tooth was extracted with very little discomfort. I moved here and was looking for a new dentist. I was able to get in for a cleaning. I was surprised when I was moved from one area for the check up to another area for the cleaning. All dentist offices do things different. It would have been nice if they told me what their process was. It was fine. I was just uneasy not knowing what was happening when. I went back when a crown came off. They got me in right away to look at it, but I was left without a crown until the end of the week when they could do something about it. They called on Wednesday to remind me about my Friday appointment. On Friday, they had lost my appointment and had to find a way to slide me in. Since then, I have called the office twice about billing questions. Sometimes they don't answer the phone. They seem to struggle to find answers to my billing questions. I am going to be looking for another dentist. I just don't trust these guys. read more

Rude rude rude rude rude rude front desk staff. My daughter's apointment was at 10:30am and she said I won't be seen because I wasn't there earlier enough to fill out paper work. Keep in mind we arrived at 10:29am. This was so un-professional. Receptionist was rude and argumentative with me. I'm was there for the first time and drove all the way from Elgin, we were there at the appointment time given. I was told I should have been here early to fill out paper work and now the dentist was to busy and didn't have time. I was so shocked. Never heard of such a thing. I could of filled out forms while my daughter was getting her cleaning. To top it all off she was loud and inconsiderate that I drove from Elgin and took my daughter out of school to get her cleaning. So much for my 10:30am appointment. I told them I was going to notify my insurance and place a complaint. Well what do you know 15min later they called me and said they could see me. What a joke!! Felicity and Dr. Blake Dawes are great, And the front end staff is fantastic, friendly and helpful. I have very sensitive teeth, and they paint this stuff that numbs my teeth and gums while their cleaning so I don't freak out. Hiit-or-miss hygienists, botched root canal, lack of appointment coordination, and apathy toward patients. Need I say more? If so, let me go into more detail. I had been going here for the past few years for routine cleanings every 6-12 months. Sometimes I'd get a good hygienists and other times I'd get someone who either had poor bedside manner or was just a little too rough on my teeth (flossing usually). I'm a regular flosser and know when someone isn't doing it right. I learned after the first few times going that when you found a decent hygienist, you needed to tell them you wanted that person again. Likewise, if you found a bad one - and I found a few of those. Strike 1. I put up with that dance for a while. I mean really, how hard is a cleaning, right? What really turned me off on them was an experience that happened three months ago when I started having massive pain in my jaw. It was on a weekend, therefore I couldn't get into a dentist immediately, so I had to goto a clinic. The doctor gave me some hyrdocodone for the pain and said I needed to see my dentist ASAP. I called the next morning and wasn't able to get an appointment for another day. Understandable. When I finally was able to see someone, the youngish doctor couldn't find what was wrong with me after a litany of tests. He sent me home without any resolution, but referred me to a specialist a few days later at the same office. Meanwhile, I'm in agony. It's difficult to concentrate and I'm feeling as if anything at this point would help. The specialist, who only works two days a week I found out, ran the exact SAME tests on me when I got into see him. This time he isolated a tooth he thought was the problem, but I was billed twice for the same procedure. Strike 2. Why couldn't this first doctor get it right? Oh, but it gets much worse, trust me. This new doctor seemed to think it was one of my metal fillings expanding, causing issues with the molar below. He suggested I get a crown. Okay, fine. I was ready to get a crown. Then, inexplicably a few days later, he decides to call an audible and wants to do a root canal on the tooth. I'm hearing this second hand through a receptionist who is trying to set up my next appointment. When I explain to her the error, she seems fine either way - as if it was up to me what I wanted to do. I'd like to think I can trust my orthopedic surgeon, so I go with the root canal, even though that's not what he told me initially. The day of the root canal is on a Tuesday. It's been three and a half weeks of agony with this thing and the pain is starting to subside a bit, no thanks to this dental office as I am still using my medication I got from the clinic and TONS of Ibuprofen. About 20 minutes into my root canal, the ortho stops the procedure, takes everything off my face and says he can't do anymore and that I'd have to get my tooth yanked. I'm trying to take this all in as my face is completely numb. He tells me he won't charge me, although he's already drilled into my tooth and taken out the pulp. I'm left with a hollow tooth, painful jaw, and a massive headache. Strike 3 - you're out! That wasn't the worst part. The worst part was when they ACTUALLY charged me. Apparently there's a difference between the doctor's time (charge) and the procedure (separate charge). Go figure. On top of that, all anyone has to say is "we're really sorry about that." THEN when I requested my records (xrays, notes, etc. to take my business elsewhere), the woman at the front said they don't give them out unless they're subpoenaed ...SUBPOENAED!? She actually said that, without any prompting from me of legal action - as if they've done this before. I decided I would switch dentists at this point and began my research. I found a great one and will write a review of the procedure following this debacle. To make matters comically worse, they called me in the middle of all this to ask me when I was coming in for my next cleaning. Apparently, the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing! Horrible experience all around. Don't wait for the 3rd strike like I did. Stay far away. read more

After year of neglect, I had a tooth that was dead and not infected. The swelling literally presented itself overnight. OMG, the PAIN I was in. After searching UHC for a Dentist, they were listed in the #1 spot for me. I called. I was able to get into see Dr. Blake E. Dawes, D.D.S. the same day. It was concluded that we could try and save the tooth or have it extracted. I chose extraction. He did not make me feel like an idiot for not taking care of my teeth, and TOLD me that it needs to come out TODAY!! He set up the appointment and I had my defective, decayed, destroyed tooth removed at Austin Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. He ans his staff are the BEST. If I was not in so much pain, I would have remembered all their names. Thank you for all your help today and will go back to finish all the Dental work I need done. Like most people, I'm afraid of going to the dentist. But Dr. Nast is wonderful - he is thorough, kind, and won't tell you that you need unnecessary dental work. The hygienist was very nice is well. The office is pretty posh, if a bit far from central Austin... but I would be willing to drive much further to see a dentist that I trust. read more
