I have purchased multiple water sports equipment here and have always noted good service and comparable pricing to my internet research. Recently, they went above and beyond with their customer service. A wake surf board that I bought had a problem with the pad. The manufacturer weren't able cover their own defect, so the shop there replaced the pad with a much nicer version. They received no reimbursement from the manufacturer and took the cost on themselves rather than pass the cost on to me. Because of this, they will have my business for and referrals. I am an extremely satisfied snow sports customer of Sail & Ski. I've been to snow ski shops on the east coast, the west coast, and many places in between, and I haven't found a better one than Sail & Ski right here in Austin. Oliver is not just a merchandise manager. He is also a very knowledgeable skier who mountain-tests the gear he sells. The time that Oliver spent with my family to get us comfortable with all of our purchases was nothing short of extraordinary. I had my doubts about shopping at a Texas-based ski store (there are exactly zero ski resorts in our state), but I'm now a lifelong customer of Sail & Ski. Oliver matched my wife and me to some amazing Völkl skis which we've used multiple times, and with which we've been extremely satisfied. He punched out my existing ski boots at no charge to give me a much more comfortable fit. He spent time with my wife to carefully make sure she found the best new boots for her foot shape, and then heat-molded, punched, and further customized them for a perfect fit. When I needed rental gear for my two kids, he was able to work out an off-menu yearlong rental. Being able to trade in my rental gear once a year for the next size up is an amazing service for parents of growing children that I hope Sail & Ski will continue to provide. When the store lacked the black ski poles I wanted in my exact size, Oliver hand-cut the next size up to match my requirements and I've enjoyed them thoroughly. Bringing our own gear to the mountain instead of renting when we get there has been worth every penny. While most skiers are spending their first two hours filling out forms and renting poorly-fitting boots and skis, we're already enjoying the quiet slopes in perfectly-fitting equipment. The comfort and consistency of owning your own gear, and the solid service provided by Sail & Ski, made me a believer that having your own gear is the best way to ski, and it's worth the comparably-small headache of checking your skis and boots as baggage onto the plane. To preface this review, it's important to know that my boyfriend & I started as first time boat buyers with little knowledge on the boat purchasing process but had endless hours on other people's boats. Quick summary of review, Sai is incredible. Our search began almost 2 years ago when we walked into Sail N Ski to check out boats. We were upfront in saying we weren't in the position to buy a boat now. Sai wasn't pushy & didn't discard us for being newbies or not ready to pull the trigger, instead he provided us with the education we needed to make an informed purchase whenever it may be. Sai checked in with us frequently to share the latest & greatest info, used options, demos, etc. We also visited the store many times to see different boats and check what they had available. Sai always was there to help us out and provide us with information not to sway our decision but to give us different perspectives/ideas, things we wouldn't normally think about or consider. When we finally took care of important life items, we reached out to Sai to tell him we were ready to rumble. He immediately sprung into action to find the perfect boat. We were first leaning towards a new G25, after learning (through Sai) that financially we needed to go a different direction, Sai showed us amazing used options. He took our ideas, mixed with his ideas/expert knowledge and found us the perfect 2016 G25 for our first boat purchase. We are absolutely in love with the boat and are so happy Sai was able to give us the knowledge to make an informed decision. Sai is a professional in every aspect of the word. Didn't even know Austin had a legit snow shop. I mean, we're in the middle of Texas right? I've driven by dozens of times and always thought "ski" was for waterskiing...turns out they carry a lot of high quality ski and snowboard gear. They even have a full rental and tuning section that you normally see on the mountain. I'm a total gear head and they had pretty much everything that my research had led me to wanting. High quality equipment and at least one if the guys is exceptionally knowledgeable and nice (not an ounce of pushy). The absolute best place to shop for snow gear in Austin. read more

When buying ski boots, be extremely careful. I bought boots here a couple of years ago, and since I'm a Texas skier I mistakenly figured that the folks at Sail & Ski would know how to properly fit boots. After 2 years of severe pain when skiing, I finally broke down and had a Boot Fitter in Colorado look at them. He said, these boots are too big for you, there's nothing I can do to make them fit, you need to buy new boots. I called Sail & Ski, they said even though we have a lifetime fit guarantee, because they are too big, you will need to buy new boots. They sold me the boots that were too big in the first place, and all they said was sorry, you'll need to buy new ones. If you really think that you should buy boots from Sail & Ski, do your homework first, don't trust that they know what they are doing, otherwise you too can flush $700 down the toilet. read more

I HIGHLY recommend speaking with Roger at Sail and Ski before any boat purchase from any other dealer is made. After going back and forth on buying a G23 pre-made we decided to build our own and Roger walked us through the steps to make it happen. He was competitive in pricing compared to the other Nautique dealers but the SERVICE is really where it's at. He met us out at Lake Austin and gave us a test drive of another G23 to make sure that we were making the right selection and was always eager to help us with any type of question. I don't think we could be more happy with our selection on brand and model as he said the G23 will do everything we want...he was right. We had an issue with our boat last fall where the power was left on so we called Roger. In 30 minutes Roger called up a "favor" and had another G23 owner let us use their boat while our battery recharged. That would not have happened with any other dealer, especially considering that we were going to buy from another company out of Austin. 5 STARS, and an additional one for service. I have been doing business with Sail & Ski for over 25 years. They used to be a quality organization. I don't know if this reflects the new ownership, but their service techs came to service my boat and broke my lift. They are taking no ownership of their mistake and done the typical it was the customers fault. 25 years and this is how they treat a client. There are a lot of boat options out there, but service after the purchase is critical and MarineMax FAILED at providing service and then blamed the customer for a mistake that their techs made. We went in to rent 4 snow pants and 2 snow jackets for a Thanksgiving trip to Keystone. Due to some unforeseen circumstances I forgot to pick these up before our trip, no one called us and by the time we remembered it was just past closing. My wife called the next day to cancel, they charged is $150 for cancelling!!! I can understand a restocking/ unpacking fee but $150 is a total rip off!! Very disappointing and costly. It was cheaper to buy and borrow. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

I bought my first boat in May of this year (2017). A 1995 Ski Nautique. It was registered in California and I needed to get the TX tag numbers printed on the side of the boat. The TX tag numbers on there were custom painted on the boat so I called Sail & Ski to see if they would be able to remove the old numbers and print the new ones. The man who attended on the phone talked to me like I was some kind of low life. He wasn't really interested in helping me and kept interrupting me. I got so frustrated, that I hung up on him. A few weeks later, I was out on the lake and hit some debris on the water which caused some damage to the strut under the boat. I took it to a Mom & Pop shop out in Kyle and the mechanic tried to call Sail & Ski to get the damaged part. I listened in on the conversation. The first thing they told him was that my boat was old. Then again, it seemed like they kept interrupting him. He got so frustrated with the person on the phone that he hung up on them as well. He told me it was some pompous kid on the phone talking down to him as well. Since it was hard to find the part, a friend of mine convinced me that no matter what my opinion of Sail & Ski was, they were the most qualified to fix my boat. After a lot of debating with him (and myself) I agreed to take it in to Sail & Ski. I dropped my boat off at the end of May. They said they could get me a quote on the repairs in a few days. ELEVEN DAYS LATER, they hadn't even looked at it! I mentioned it to one of my coworkers who said she takes her boat to South Austin Marine. That day I went and picked up my boat from Sail & Ski, and took it to South Austin Marine. I was greeted at the entrance by the owner, who asked me how he could help. I told him the situation and within 15 minutes, he had one of his techs back my boat into one of their tanks. Within another 10 minutes, they determined what the problem was. The strut wasn't even damaged. It was a very minor repair and I HAD MY BOAT BACK THAT SAME DAY!!! I've read some of the reviews on here and this is my conclusion. If Sail & Ski can make a ton of money off of you, they will help you. If you have a million dollar yacht, they will help you. But if you're the average person with an average boat, GOOD LUCK! They won't give a damn about you. read more

The sales person had no knowledge of the rebate and military discount program. An impromptu trip to Lake Tahoe to experience that beautiful powder left me wondering, where in the world can I buy ski gear in Austin, this late in the season. A quick google search turned up a few options, but none of them except Sail and Ski was guaranteed to have ski boots (snowboarder boots are easier to find), and having skied for years before moving to Texas, I knew that was my first priority (rental boots HURT!!). So in classic fashion I left the house at 4pm since there is a Sail and Ski right down the street, but being late in the season they had already sent all of their ski boots back to the main store off 183. Luckily, the hours for that store is later and they close at 6-- so off I went. The store is very large and honestly I've always overlooked it in favor of just running into Cabellas or Dicks since I assumed, incorrectly, that they pretty much only serviced boat owners-- preferably with water skis. Boy was I wrong. They have a large and varied selection, particularly for a land locked hot desert state, and since it's late in the season everyone was on sale! My helpful sales associate, Adam, fit for boots right out of the gate. He measured my feet , asked a few questions about my preferences, ski experience, and desire from my boots-- and managed to find a ladies boot with a wide(ish) foot that fit perfectly. They even warmed them up for me to loosen the lining since I'm not going to be able to break them in for long periods of time. The rest of the selection was superb. You can find anything ski related on a budget all the way to high end--- for men, women, and children. In the past I found that women's choices were often lacking, but I didn't feel like I was settling by selecting apparel, boots, helmet, gloves, and goggles here. And again the prices were reasonable. Adam certainly helped steer me to value items that were high quality but lower price (and on sale) than some of the other much more expensive items I was looking at. He saved me $60 on goggles and $140 on gloves. He tried to save me on pants too and offered many pant alternatives, but the one I liked just was the most expensive (eh, can't win them all I guess)! I really appreciated that attention given that they work on commission. He also didn't try to sell me on items that I don't need. I could use a pair of skis for example, but I haven't skied in years so he encouraged me to wait and see. Also, I'm interested in boarding but he didn't try to sell me a combo boot that's 4x more than I paid for my ski boots. All in all this was a great experience. I saw several families planning a spring ski trip there and they also looked happy and found what they needed. The sales associates all seemed knowledgeable and were able to provide the pro and cons for the various accessories. A+++ I'll be back when I get my skis!! read more

Sail and Ski Center is a veritable kids playground! The store has tons of boats, even quite expensive ones. At first, I was apprehensive about even touching them. As for its main reason for being, I cannot imagine you not finding something you are looking for (or not looking for) at this place. It does seem a bit confusingly laid out though. I will say, however, that there seemed to be a LOT more "associates" than there were customers. They were overly eager to attend to customers' needs. I would definitely like to come back to Sail and Ski as we get into some of the activities like camping and fishing of which they have TONS of items to choose from. read more

Wow. This place had so much more merchandise and departments, than I was expecting. We were just out browsing and decided to stop in. Checked out the boats that we couldn't afford. The sales staff was so nice. No high pressure, just let us look around and window shop. Even the boat salesman Saidi, spent time with us, even though we admitted to not being able to afford one. He answered a ton of questions we had about pontoons and just made us feel welcome. read more

So, years ago I bought from Steal & Ski and received excellent service. An expensive lesson but I learned I was nuts for buying new when there are so many boats out there with low hours and VERY cheap. Lesson learned. Since getting water in the lake I took my gently used boat to Steal & Ski to be serviced because it sat for a little over a year due to no rain. They serviced it and did some rotor work and serviced the boat and "prepped" it for the lake. I went to pick it up and they had broken a bracket the Bimini attaches to and totally trashed my boat and did not put the poles in under the covers to allow the rain water to run off. So I pay over $2000 to have my boat prepped for the lake and go to hook it up to my truck and find the covers flooded with rain water the inside of my boat water logged and the broken bracket for my Bimini. Last week I took my boat out for he fifth time this summer and I leaked rotor fluid into the lake. Steal & Ski did work on my rotor so I have to ask myself why in the world am I leaking rotor fluid when I just had that specific part replaced/machined and rebuilt... If for some reason it is just a fluke that it leaked fluid all over the lake I'll gladly come back and amend this review to show they had no fault in the leak, but the stuff I mentioned about their service will stand and I will NEVER use this service department again. The only reason I am using them now is because they did the work and if they screwed it up I want them paying for it. Terrible service and nothing was done to make it right. I used to be a true believer n you get what you pay for, but I dropped a boatload of money (literally) and have a boat sitting in the dry stack I can't use... read more

Well...I rarely write negative reviews but this time I feel it is warranted. I bought a boat in December (First time boat owner) and prior had done enough research to know I needed to have the vessel surveyed as well as mechanically inspected. It was purchased from a private party and unfortunately the following is the result. Being that it is a Sea Ray, I opted to take it into Sail and Ski for it's full service and inspection. The boat needed a lot of attention to the Bravo 3 out drive and a list of other miscellaneous non of which included a cracked block...Total repair was around 6500.00. Ouch!! During the time they had the boat (12/26 to the End of January) they supposedly went over everything - only to now(after all other repairs were completed) find out it had a cracked block. After further research, I have found there are a number of ways they could have found this in advance instead of relying on whether or not there was water in the oil. But, prior to this discovery, when I initially got it back after the first round of repairs - they had failed to set the Drive lash (or rolling torque) correctly and I ended up having a loud hum at neutral/low speed and in reverse, which ended our maiden voyage and required me to bring it back in. They found the problem (mentioned above) and corrected it at no additional cost. Upon taking it back out, I noticed the drive oil was going down and called them....Was told it was normal and there was likely air pockets in the drive and to fill it back up and let them know if it does not fix the issue. Second outing, I took it out and had the same issue, only this time we also discovered water in the Engine oil (not the out drive oil). Indicative of a cracked block or blown head gasket or a myriad of other potential issues). I returned to S&S and they found the block was indeed cracked. My issue, is had they fully checked the boat out properly in the beginning and performed all of the tests possible to discover if this condition exists, it would likely have been found (we did not have a freeze during this period so we cannot blame the weather - also they had winterized the boat as part of the first service, as well, they changed the impeller and found pieces of the old one in the brady valve and supposedly cleaned it all out). Either I bought the boat with a cracked block which should have been found or the impeller repair may not have been completed properly, contributing to the crack). I would have had the opportunity to save the initial repair costs(6500.00), and been able to explore other remedies. Instead I am now looking at an almost additional 7000.00 repair and that would be with a re manufactured block(New Genuine GM Marine Crate Motors are available and they insist on using Jasper Reman). In my humble opinion, and that of a few other people that know motors, they either failed to find the crack initially or the impeller repair was partially done (pieces likely went throughout the cooling system). As far as I know, the boat never overheated since I took delivery and further more as a new boat owner I am glued to the gauges to spot these potential issues! That said, I contacted their office and spoke with someone whom basically alluded to the fact that it isn't their problem and knew of no procedures to find a crack (which anyone with even basic google skills and a reading level above 3rd grade can discover that there is). Other Than offering to put me at the front of their "line" all I received was another pricey quote. read more

My quest / question was who has the best inventory of high-end ski jackets. These guys had the best inventory, half of it on sale (that's good cause I seem to like the more expensive choices) and Ali who helped me totally helped me work my choices and he's a big skier. I visited Sail & Ski to check out their wake surfboards. The staff was polite and helpful. One of the managers, Oliver, ended up helping me out. He told me about the program they have where if you rent a board(s) and decide to purchase one within a month of the first rental, they will apply all rental costs to the purchase price of your board. Pretty sweet deal compared to local competitors like South Austin Marine. I ended up renting 3 different boards and bought one for a good price. Oliver was extremely helpful. He took the time to explain the different styles of boards, fins, etc. He helped me out each time I went into the shop and is the main reason I ended up purchasing a board there. Will definitely return for whatever water sport(s) needs I have. read more

I purchased (2) Kawasaki jet ski's from Sail & Ski in early 2007, and have had all service performed by this dealer since. Not only was the initial sales experience very pleasant and efficient, but since then the service after the sale has been simply outstanding. I was talked into buying an extended warranty, which on other items from other dealers have always turned out to be a huge waste of money as whatever breaks seems to never covered for one reason or another. The experience with Sail & Ski has been the exact opposite, and although the problems with the skis have been few, each time there was never a question about whether the problem was covered, they just came out to my marina and took care of it with no charge. Not only have they provided great, responsive and friendly service, but MUCH to my surprise, after each service they actually call within a few days to be sure everything is working well and I am fully satisfied - and it's clear they are very genuinely interested in ensuring all is well, not just trying to pretend! Whether it be cars, boats, or whatever.....I've rarely found a vehicle dealer that provides an overall oustanding experience, but Sail & Ski definitely does and stands well above the crowd. Sadly, I also purchased a high-end boat in 2007 which cost over 10x the price of the jet skis, and the service provided by another local dealer who is the authorized representative for that brand of boat has been pathetic to say the least. I purchased some skis, bindings, and some other various items for the first time at Sail, and Ski. I've been skiing since I was very young, but I've never purchased my own skis I usually rent. Oliver made the process painless, and provided extensive knowledge towards the Atomic Ski, and Salomen bindings I purchased at an excellent deal.
