The foreman I worked with was John. If you have his team, you're guaranteed to have a great and painless move. I had such a good experience the first time that I used them twice! I'm assuming other foremen (and teams) are just as good, but I can say for sure that John and his team were top-notch. They arrived slightly early and they were very easy to communicate with. Some of my stuff was packed a bit haphazardly, with boxes left open and the like. They managed to squeeze stuff in safely and efficiently in ways I never would have thought of. I was about to say that they have state-of-the-art moving equipment, but I'm not even sure that's the best way to say it. What I can say for sure is that they have all the moving equipment you'd need and it gets the job done perfectly. They have strong (but easily removable) tape and strong (but easily removable) plastic wrap, and it all does the trick. I didn't expect to find movers who were cheap, fast, and attentive-to-detail, but Green Line Movers are just that. Ever heard the axiom that nothing is fast, cheap, and good? Moved on Saturday, 9/28/13. I always expect to be swindled by movers in NYC so I definitely had my guard up. Scheduled moving start time was between 4-5pm. I wanted them to stop by another location first and pick up a couch, then proceed to my apt. They ended up arriving at about 5:20pm which I was a bit annoyed about but there was a lot of traffic that day and it was a busy street. After that it couldn't have been any easier. They picked up the couch at the first location, which happened to be a 4th floor walk up, then met them at my apt. where they diligently moved 2 bedrooms and a living room worth of stuff. All in just over 3 hours. They were no nonsense guys and didn't fool around or disappear for breaks. We were already packed and ready to go. They wrapped up all the furniture and fragile things nicely. Once we arrived at the new place they assembled our furniture and asked us how we wanted it arranged (even after we changed our minds a few times). The total wound up being less than the max end of our quote, which is what I was expecting it to be, so I was pleasantly surprised about that. Because of that we ended up tipping about 30%. They seemed pleased with that and just thanked us and left. They complimented our new apt. and were quite pleasant. I would definitely recommend them! read more

We used Green Line movers twice. Once to move out and into a storage; the other to move to a residence. We had 2 different teams and both were great. The first team had to deal with a 3rd floor walk-up apt. They were very careful in moving all our boxes and wrapping our furniture with plastic and cardboard. Then they spent a good portion of the afternoon loading everything into the storage unit, which looked like a game of Tetris after they were done. 6 months later, we requested the same team of guys but they were unavailable. A different set of 4 guys came (John was one of them) and I was initially skeptical but within the first hour and a half they unloaded a 10x15 unit that was filled with our stuff. The first, move out team was more careful and the second, move in team were very fast. John actually said that because the first team packed the unit nicely, they were able to unpack it very quickly. Great movers and competitive rate, even though the rate has increased (from what I read in previous post). Even though they require a 3-hr minimum for 3-men, their rate is still competitive to most out there - except for some Chinatown movers but you never know what you gonna get. Also, I think it makes sense to get a 3-hr window for your move anyways. The one thing I love about Green Line is that they actually pick up my call almost every time and getting a quote is very straightforward. There is no need to fill out those darn quote forms online and wait for a response. With Green Line I called them two days before my move and everything went smoothly. Another thing worth noting - Green Line assigns three movers for my move, and knowing that there would be parking issue in my area, they actually sent four over and have one sitting in the truck. With the other movers I believe you would end up with two people for your move and one in the truck instead. The move was done professionally throughout, there were slight hiccups during the move on assembly of furniture and it was getting frustrating for everyone but it's part of life and nothing to sweat over. These are good people and they deserve good tips - I hope you will take good care of them when you hire them for your move. The one thing I dislike is the half-hour incremental charge - if you go over 5 mins you get charged for half an hour. I don't like looking at the clock at all times, so a 5-min seems more reasonable to me. read more

Used these guys to move from my 1 bed to a new 1 bed within Murray Hill itself. They were 3 guys and they were not only fast but also very careful with all the stuff. They also have the best possible rate. I got quotes from 7-8 different movers and most of the quotes were in the range of $700-$1000 (4-5 hr estimated time @ 140+ per hr and tips extra ). I was moving from one elevator apt to another only 8 blocks away and 5 hrs seemed quite long. Their customer service assured me that they estimate it will take no more than 3 1/2 hrs. They also did the mover's insurance for me for an extremely low rate of $10. Others were quoting $25-35 for it They arrived 50 minutes before the scheduled time and got the entire move done in 3 1/2 hrs flat. I had a lot of stuff (queen bed, ~20 boxes, loveseat, book shelf, dressers, lounge chair etc) . GreenLine charged me $250 for first 3 hrs and another $50 for the next half which is the same as their advertised rate when you google them. Travel time is another $40. I was so impressed with their service that i ended up tipping them more than 30%. Even then it turned out to be way cheaper than other guys Moving is indeed quite a hassle but these guys make it easier. I would have no issues recommending them to everyone read more

They moved us from Flatbush to Park Slope, a short move geographically, but it was important to me that things go smoothly, as I'm disabled and was only in town a few weeks to help my daughter. Green Line did a great job. They gave a flat fee quote that was neither the highest nor the lowest we got, but it seemed fair. The other quotes either seemed like rip-offs or I didn't trust them. I used this company to move last winter. Boris, who I corresponded with, was great. The only downside was when I had the head guy on my team of movers ask me for more tip when I had already tipped over 20%. I would like to give them another try with a different lead guy because the guys who did the actual moving did a great job. The lead guy also made me sit in the drivers seat of their moving truck because they double parked - who does that? We had to make a couple of time changes and Boris who handles the scheduling, was extremely accommodating every time. The day of the move, they arrived right on time. We had such a fantastic experience with green line. The price was excellent considering we were moving from a 5 floor walk up to outside city limits. The men were very professional and took good care of our belongings. The reason why I chose NYC green line movers is because of the overwhelming good reviews. Me hiring them was a good experience, except with the miscommunication which which took place on the day of me moving out of my old apartment. The miscommunication was the pick up time and the quoted price which was already agreed upon on paper. The price for the 3 hours for $360 which was not the issue, it was price quoted price by 1/2 hour when the job exceeded past the 3 hours, which was quoted on paper as $48 per 1/2 hour, as the lead guy said on what was quoted to me on paper is a mistake and should be $68 per 1/2 hour. However, the lead guy ensured me that the job of moving me to the new place from West 104 st to West 114 st in Harlem will be withing three hours or less. The other miscommunication is the arrival time. Originally, movers were to arrive at 10:00 am, Boris called me if he can reschedule the movers to arrive to my old place at 2:00-2:30 pm, although they showed up at 10:30 am anyways, which was okay, but caught me a bit off guard as some of my boxes were not yet fully sealed. Hence, I tried to cancel due to the weather ,as it was raining very heavy on the date I was about to move, but it was too late as Boris informed me that the guys were already their way and ensured me that the my belongs would not get wet and/or damaged. Prior to the move I did purchase a pack of 24 oz bottled water for the movers for the sake of avoiding dehydration. Overall, the movers did not show me any attitude as they were professional , polite and efficient in moving my belongs as they wrapped all my furniture prior to moving them; plus the job was done a little under three hours. They did had me wait in the truck, while they were moving my belongs to ensure that they would not get a ticket as they were double parked, which was okay with me. The entire move however was a big ordeal, considering it was raining as if the sky was crying heavy crocodile tears, plus I was being moved from a four story walk up, to another four story walk up and as I was not charged for stairs which was good. I gave them $400, when the bill was $360 and then gave the lead guy for all 4 movers an additional $350 dollars as a tip, as each received a tip of $97.50 each, as they did provided me professional service, as I would most definitely use them again. In spite of the professional service, the only draw back is the miscommunication, which was not the fault of the movers, but Boris's fault. However, dealing with Boris was professional as he was cordial over the phone, but I do recommend that he improve his communication with his clients. read more

I gave them 3 stars since the got the job done. We booked this company since it was cheaper than others and promised to provide paperwork my building needed. The booking of the job was fine. Providing COI took a little back and forth, but okay. The company originally automatically assigned 9am as the start time. I had them change to 8am since the elevator window available in my departure building was 8-11am. They changed it with no problem. BUT on the day of the move, at 8am, the movers called and said "they had a flat tire" and they should be here in 40 min. I told them to drive to the back entrance where the loading dock was. By 9am, they still didn't show up. I called them and asked them where they were and told them again to park at the loading dock again. OKAY.THEY JUST WANTED TO START THE DAY AT 9AM. I WASN'T BORN YESTERDAY. They finally arrived a few minutes after 9am and told me they were at the front door. I told them a 3rd time to park at the loading dock. Finally, they came up and started moving. PROBLEM 1- One guy always pulled down his mask while another guy put his mask below his nose. I had to constantly remind them about their masks and even offered a new one to them. One guy put on our mask and got rid of it within 5 min and continued to wear his loose mask below his nose for the rest of the day. PROBLEM 2- they did not bring enough moving supplies. They used our bubble wraps to wrap our TV and monitors and didn't wrap anything with one of our monitors when we clearly informed them about these items. Without our bubble wraps, they would have nothing to wrap our TV or monitor. They also didn't bring enough plastic wraps and mostly using the one we prepared. When we had a kitchen cart to move which we listed, they said they couldn't move it since there were some glass items in it. They were just standing there for minutes doing nothing and insisted that we put everything in a box. We told them we ran out of boxes. Eventually, I put all glass items in a separe bag and suggested to wrap the cart with our own plastic wraps and solved the problem. What did they expect? To throw out the cart and everything in it? PROBLEM 3- Once we arrived at the new building, they decided to take a lunch break. When you were late for more than one hour in the morning already, shouldn't you hurry up and get the job done? A lunch break during a move without prior consent is unheard of. PROBLEM 4 -Throughout the move, they kept complaining there were more stuff they had to move than expected. That was totally BS. We already moved a number of boxes on our own in advance and took a number of items with us on Uber on the day of. The number of boxes and each item were clearly listed in our fee quote. We still tipped them 25% at the end of the day. We will never use them again considering how unprofessional they were. read more

Called these guys for a move from Manhattan to an outer borough. They ended up being on the lower end of quotes I got (about $360 not incl. tip for 3 guys, 4 hours). After a little confusion with reservation time on the confirmation call, we got everything set. I can't say enough about how efficient and careful these guys were. I asked for a delay from the original start time of 8am to 8:30am, they actually came a little early and then rang my bell at 8:30 sharp. They were very good with wrapping and carrying everything, and did not dawdle. They even were polite enough to ask if they could use the sink to wash their hands. Overall a fantastic moving experience and a great value. One thing to consider, factor in a good tip for the moving guys separate from the main bill. I hadn't thought the tip through beforehand, if I had I probably would have given them even more than I did. read more

This was my first time hiring movers and it was a fantastic experience, especially considering that it was a really rough move: from a third-floor walkup to a sixth-floor walkup. Four guys from NYC Green Line Movers arrived at the appointed time and promptly emptied our apartment. They protected all our furniture, including disassembling the larger pieces that wouldn't fit in the stairwell. They reassembled everything when we arrived at the new place. The whole process took about three and a half hours. I chose Green Line because they gave me a reasonable flat-rate quote based on our inventory, rather than an hourly rate. Even though I ended up with a few more boxes than I'd estimated, they didn't charge me extra at the end. I would definitely hire them again for a future move. read more

I selected NYC Green Line movers first 3 reasons: 1) they gave the best price, 2) they have the best website where they list all possible items and all I had to do was check boxes, this is a great feature to make sure nothing is forgotten 3) their price is for the whole move not per hour. This was a 1 bedroom move within Midtown, NYC. They arrived on time, 8:50 for a 9:00 am scheduled move. It was 4 people. They were very professional and efficient. Every piece of furniture was wrapped in blankets and plastic. They re-taped all of my boxes and provided wardrobe boxes. As I requested in the quote, they disassembled and reassembled the bed, couch and mirror. We encountered a problem that the couch would not fit into the service elevator and they carried it down 4 flights of stairs for only an additional $125. Upon arrival at the new apartment which is on the 18th floor, they encountered the same issue. They took the couch apart right in the lobby and reassembled it in the apt. They even hung my clothes back in the closet. I asked that they leave some of the wardrobe boxes for me to do myself later and they did that at no additional charge. Boris and Michael were great to work with on the phone and over email to schedule the move and answer all of my questions. I can't say enough good things. I'm so happy I chose NYC Green Line movers. Just moved this past weekend with NYC Green Line Movers. This company is phenomenal. I called at least 7 different moving companies around NYC and Green Line Movers provided the most reasonable price without any back and forth negotiations needed. They responded within minutes to any emails I sent out. The crew of 4 guys came and loaded everything onto their truck quick and smooth and were all very nice and pleasant. They were super accommodating with all my furniture and there were no surprise fees on the day of the move! Everything was wrapped and secured properly on the truck. Best part, everything arrived to my new apartment in one piece (i.e. nothing broken). Shaxa was the head of the crew and he was always checking in with me to make sure the move was going as I wanted it to. I used Green line movers twice. The owner / manger (Boris) is super nice and helpful. The movers that they have are very nice and helpful. BUT both times that I used them, I was berated and bullied about giving a "big " tip. I tipped ALL of the movers each time that I used them $20-$25 (EACH Mover) which is a decent tip, and when they are getting paid a significant amount of money already. I found it unprofessional for someone to say to me that they are used to getting $100 tip per person, I know that is a lie, but whatever. It is uncomfortable and wrong. I told Boris the first time that I used them, so I assumed that they would not be that way the second time, I was wrong. I would have given a much higher rating, but dealing with the movers begging for tips (especially when they were tipped) is awful. when I am paying over $100- $150 an hour for service, I do not think anyone should be asking for a tip. I always tip movers but this was a weird thing that I feel that their employees do this on a regular. *****in response to Boris, I have receipts and emails that show otherwise. Let me preface the review by saying that this was the first time I had ever hired movers, and I wasn't terribly enthusiastic about the idea. I'm a do it myself kind of person, and I preferred to just get this done on my own with help from a few friends. But when those friends were reluctant to help, I was faced the the only other option, which was to outsource the job. Thus my (thankfully) wonderful experience with Green Line. I had called Gar Hing, which, I had heard, is one of the best (and cheapest) movers in Brooklyn. So they were my first choice. But I found their online form to be confusing as hell, and when I actually did speak to someone on 2 separate occasions, I was quoted at hugely different prices (a difference of about $300). It was also hard to understand and communicate with the person I was speaking with (and I'm Asian-American, so no bias here), which I found added to my anxiety about coordinating strangers to move my things in the first place. Now, I know this isn't a review for Gar hing, but I thought it important to contrast my experience with them versus Green Line. As my move date was nearing, I was getting super nervous. And I did one last search on Yelp, and found these guys. I called, expecting to get the same run around, and a vastly inflated quote. But instead I spoke to a very friendly man named Boris, who was pleasant and polite, and immediately quoted me at $240 for 1 truck / 3 hours / 3 guys. SOLD! They arrived on my move date 10min before scheduled, which I was prepared for after reading a few reviews. And they loaded up all my stuff in 30min flat. I was shocked! (in a very good way). The unloading, obviously, took a bit longer (the new apartment was also in a 4th floor walk up), but everything was done by 10:30, so less than 2 hours. John was the foreman, and he was super nice. He would ask me where I wanted things, so I wouldn't have to then move it again once they were gone. We live in a duplex, and he even carried a few things up the spiral staircase for us. It was a wonderful experience, and made my initial anxiety over hiring movers completely vanish. My boyfriend used them a week later for his move, and it was also great, so my great experience wasn't a fluke. It's just how they always are! So skip Gar Hing, and use these guys. It will be one of the least stressful choices you'll have to make. read more

Frankly, I was pretty overwhelmed! They showed up 5 min early. Unlike others who add an hour, NO CHARGE for travel time, NO CHARGE to shrink wrap mattresses, box springs and tables. NO CHARGE for tape, blankets. There were three people PLUS a driver to stay with the truck since parking is difficult and the street is narrow. The most important thing is that every one of them took extra special care to make sure that nothing would get damaged and that floors and walls would not get scratched. When I called and emailed, Boris answers very promptly. Super courteous. I would definitely use NYC Green Line Movers again. UPDATE!: I've increased this to 5 stars after getting a phone call shortly after my 4 start review. Boris apologized (even though I'm still not sure whether I was in the wrong for short tipping to begin with...) and offered to repay the money. Of course I don't want the money back, I was never really that averse to paying it in the first place, but the excellent customer service provided was totally great and I would recommend everyone use them. I really liked these guys. Boris was awesome to deal with over email, he responded to each of my emails quickly and even turned around a last minute certificate of insurance when my building told me at the last second that it was required. Also, the price was great. I had a 2 bedroom apartment (SO MUCH STUFF) and it was under $500. Oz moving quoted me $1200... for the same list of stuff. They showed up just a few minutes late for my evening move. 3 guys showed up, it was already their third move of the day and it was over 90 degrees outside. They worked quickly and efficiently with my 3rd floor walk up. They only took two 10 minute breaks during the move out phase and one 10 minute break during the move in phase. Given the heat, I was amazed how quickly the were able to work. The entire move was done in 3 hours and 45 minutes, inclusive of the breaks. I think at the end a few more movers showed up to help unload, but I'm not positive, it just felt like suddenly there were lots of guys coming up the stairs with my stuff. It was all such a whirlwind. But not a single thing broken. So why only 4 stars instead of 5? Because at the end I gave them $120 in tips and the forman asked for more. I was under the understanding that 20% is standard for movers, and I had already given more than that. He wasn't DEMANDING it or anything, he just said "please, if you could for the guys, more tips". So I gave $60 more. I was flustered. Was I being cheap? I didn't mean to be. But then after giving more tip I wondered if he was taking advantage of me? I don't know. Hands down, the best movers/moving experience my husband and I have ever had. They showed up early with 4 guys and TONS of moving supplies that, considering we had packed like absolute morons and needed almost all of it, they let us have for an unbelievably reasonable small fee. They basically repacked all of our stuff, disassembled all our furniture, moved us out of the old place and into the new place, and re-assembled everything in under 2.5 hours, all for about 1/2 the price of what other movers had quoted me to be a "6-8 hour job." Incredible. About as painless and stress-free as you could ever hope moving to be. Also, due to the general messy state of our lives, we had to reschedule our move date/time about 4 times.
