i have used O & H bakery several times over the holidays this year. I find the store on Durand in Racine to be very well stocked, and the employees are friendly and knowledgeable. As to the Keingles and their other baked goods, they have all been excellent! I signed up for their rewards program and mailing list. I have gotten kringles, their Black Forest torte, cranberry pecan bread (seasonal) and also some of their deli salads. Everyone I have shared these delicious treats with has said the same thing - delicious, where did this come from? Pumpkin Caramel Kringle: A Kringle is a large circular Danish pastry with flaky dough, covered in icing, & filled with fruit, nut, or other more unique flavors. After doing a little research I've learned that sadly, Kringles are not widely spread throughout the U.S. It turns out that Racine, WI is actually the epicenter for Kringles. O&H Danish Bakery opened in 1949 and has been family owned for four generations. Did you know Kringle is the official state pastry of Wisconsin? This one is filled with a sweet and delicious pumpkin puree and topped with a drizzle of caramel icing and sprinkling of pecans. The pastry has just the right amount of chewiness to it and is also a little flaky like a croissant. O&H does not skimp on the filling as there is plenty of pumpkin hiding inside. Personally, I found pumpkin was the strongest flavor, but it's accompanied by cinnamon and a nuttiness (from the pecans). Caramel was the least noticeable as it came off as mostly a generic sweetness on my tastebuds. Personally, I don't care for nuts on my desserts, so I would be fine if it didn't come with pecans. Every once in awhile you'll see a kringle sold anywhere but here. Don't do it even if it's mail order. You usually get it in 2 days anyway. I have restrained myself in the Twin Cities with the monthly themed kringles. Never around Valentine's day with the heart shaped cherry kringle and I'm already eying St. Patrick's day. They also have cakes, coffee cakes and various other pastries. Get on the mailing list. The Mardi Gras holiday is out now, too with the King Cake Kringle and an assortment of paczki. Tiny breakfast sandwich is like $8, but a whole banana bread is $5. Cookies aren't good, soft and weird recipe honestly. Very weird. Donuts are just ok. They also act like they are so special here, the attitude throws me off when literally the only thing that's good and price makes sense is the Kringle. Overrated place overall. O&H my! Go here. Authentic bakery serving the community. Staff knows their business. They are famous for the Kringles. We got the Apple but they have more flavors than Baskin-Robbins! I also got the rugbrød, a dense seeded Scandinavian bread great for open-faced sandwiches. We also experienced the Scandinavian Dream Cake which was outstanding. Been enjoying O&H Kringle all my life. Moved away and we come back a few times a year , and Kringle from O&H are always the priority to take back home out of state. Sadly today, something has changed. Changed so much this will no longer be a stop. I am hoping it's just a fluke, but look, texture and taste all around is not the same. Doughy, not flakey, different frosting,Oily, different sweet. I am not sure but I think the price was lower, i would rather have them raise the price, I'll pay $20 all day vs. $11 for what I bought today. That won't happen again. Going to compare more in depth with the couple I still have in my freezer at home. My husband surprised me with these for Christmas. I had never heard of them before, and I absolutely love cheese danishes, so these were perfect for me. My husband got me the cream cheese one and the cinnamon bun one. The cream cheese one was the one we made first. I actually think it could have used more cream cheese. It was good. Maybe even very good. But for the cost of it, I was expecting better. It did smell very good in the oven, and again, was really good. But not the best danish (kringle) I've ever had. We made the cinnamon one a week or so later. That one was actually better! Much more cinnamon in it. I wish the cheese one had that much cheese in it. We both preferred that one. And my husband does not even like sweet stuff, and liked both of these. There are some reviews that complain about these being too sweet, which really made me laugh. If you are eating these expecting anything other than a sweet delicious treat, you are trying the wrong thing! I would probably not buy these for myself, but I'd be fine with my husband getting them as a gift for me again. I've had both the cream cheese flavor and raspberry- both delicious but raspberry was my fav. It's like a stuff croissant donut with icing? It's flaky, buttery, gooey- honestly just so good. TJ's only carries certain seasonal flavors but you better keep an eye out because they don't always have it in stock! I'm always happy when I visit an O&H Danish Bakery! I love every detail of this bakery. It is always bright and cheerful. Big windows allow tons of sunlight in. The store is always clean and tidy. They offer hand sanitizer upon arrival and it is easy to shop safely. The baked goods cannot be beat. I don't know what kind of magic happens in their kitchen but WOW! Everything I have tried is incredible. The coffee, cakes, donuts, bread and kringle are always fresh and delicious. The staff in all areas of the store are friendly and personable. They are helpful and answer all of my questions. My friend remarked that there were no Cyclops donuts and the woman behind the counter heard her. Immediately, she offered to make one for her. Now THAT is the epitome of customer service! * For those of you who do not live in Wisconsin, a Cyclops is a chocolate glazed donut with a big dollop of whipped cream in the center.* When I moved to Chicago I was shocked that Cyclops were not available. It must be a Wisconsin thing. If you are looking for a unique gift or want something special for yourself, you can find all sorts of cute things here. All of their items are displayed so nicely. There is nothing special about the product I received from this bakery. The icing is sickening sweet and horrible.

Wisconsin is famous for Beer, Cheese, and Kringle, and having struck two of those off our list, we found ourselves in Racine seeking to make it a clean sweep. We did meta-review for this and decided on this very O&H location because of the stellar recommendations. We were definitely not misled. While the exterior of the establishment looked like a small industrial bakery straight out of the 1950s, we opened the door to reveal a wonderland of artfully arranged baked goods and gifts. There was even a little coffee bar, and we were advised of an incentive for the day of our visit of a free cup with purchase of a Kringle. Since that's exactly what brought us in, we figured it was a double-score. Only one problem remained, choosing a Kringle. These are not the tiny, single-serving pastries you usually pick up at your local bakery or panaderia, no, these kringles were family-sized ovals with a short-axis about the same length as my forearm, and the long-axis an entire hand more! We knew that we'd have to stick with just one, having only a couple days to finish the whole thing before boarding a flight back home, but some of the varieties made us seriously consider asking about the potential of options to ship... In the end, we got one that was called Wisconsin, consisting of a cherry and cranberry filling, and topped with cream cheese icing. We're pretty sure that those are walnuts in the image of our delightfully decadent dessert, though I don't think that's a usual topping for this divine creation... Regardless, we polished that whole thing off between the two of us over the course of about 2.5 days despite being completely convinced that it was far too much food. It kept pretty well for those few days, too, since the last bite was every bit as sweet/tart/creamy/flaky/buttery good at the first. We're still considering the option of trying to get one shipped out to us, since there's nothing like it in a 1000 mile radius from home. So good! Now if only they were closer... Was always more of a "mass produced" bakery then a small feel bakery. Kringle selection is half what it used to be. Service isn't the same either. I'd say the quality of the bakery there is about the same as any grocery store now. Location and parking is about all this place has right now that's a plus. I'm sad to see it go downhill. I have heard wonderful things about Kringles, and heard that the best place to try one was at O&H. I was also told that raspberry is the way to go. I bought one, $9, no tax, and went to wolf it down. The first bite made my mouth grimace because of the level of sweetness. I then looked at the ingredients. Second ingredient: Cane Granulated Sugar. Further down we see natural flavor as part of the Butter Margarine, Powdered Sugar, Brown Sugar, Margarine which again contains natural flavor, Fondant (sugar, corn syrup), Sugared Egg Yolks, Natural Flavoring, Molasses, Corn Starch, Guar Gum, Gellan Gum, Sodium Benzoate. These are the ingredients that made me cringe, maybe that's why it's a kringle. Then I look at the nutritional information. One server, one 12th of the circle, so basically a few bites, contains 20g of sugar. That's 5 teaspoons! But who's going to eat just a tiny bit of it? By comparison, a serving size of Oreos is 2 cookies, and has 13g of sugar. I have a feeling that if half the sugar was used, the cringle would taste much better. For those that have never had a kringle, here's how you can make an approximation at home. Take a croissant. Fill it with jam of choice, several tablespoons of the jam, and add some fondant icing on top. read more

Mmmm... Kringle! This bakery has all the great baked goods that you might want from a bakery in Wisconsin... but the Kringle is the highlight. As are the great souvenirs you can purchase here -- this is where I bought some items as gifts for my family for when I returned from my trip to Wisconsin, and clearly Kringle is the best kind of Danish that you can get, really. I loved the art on the cakes on display here and the Kringle carrying bags looked great too! I like all the Scandinavian wares on sale in addition to the food.
