Kringles, good stuff if you get it from O & H. I've had kringles from another local bakery in Wisconsin last time I visited. The one from its competitor wasn't anywhere as good as O & H. I've had O & H's almond kringle that they source out to Trader Joe's in VA. Staff were friendly and helpful! I informed them I'm not from here locally (just visiting my in- laws). The lady was helpful and explained their available products. I was so excited to try out their other kringle flavors. I opted for the key lime pie and the pina colada one. We tore into the key lime pie one and it tastes just like one, with the filling! Sooo good!! They run about $15-$16 for the flavored ones. The pina colada one I will have to update my review for, as it's currently in my in-laws' freezer and will hopefully survive the 14 hour drive home. No military discounts. For this occasion I ordered online & had delivered an Almond Custard Seven Sister Coffee Cake. The coffee cake was yummy. Well, here we are again. Another birthday month and a big thank you to Ohlaf for the discount. I may have found my favorite Kringle flavor - Salted Caramel! I saw it as a new seasonal flavor that could be ordered for delivery right up until my birthday. The only problem I was running into was that my wife was giving up sweets again for Lent, which was starting before my birthday. Rather than saving her a frozen piece until Easter, or not sharing it with her at all, I scheduled it to be delivered today, a Friday, so we could enjoy it over this weekend. Now the only question is whether it will even make it to the weekend. I don't know how to explain how delicious it is other than to say the flavor of the chopped pecans on top along with a blended sprinkling of coarse salt and sugar are just an introduction to your palate in preparation for you to next enjoy the caramel filling oozing out of your warmed slice. When my local Trader Joe's sells-out of its allocation of kringles, there's always the mail order option from this location in Racine. My TJ's receives a shipment of kringles every three months or so, and they usually don't stay in stock for very long. The nice thing is that the retail price at TJ's is about $10 lower per kringle than ordering via mail from the Racine bakery. I went on their website to see everything they have to offer and place an order. The level of service is exceptional. It was SO easy to navigate and the purchase process was simple (can use PayPal). We ordered 3 kringles for Sat. (6/27), and order was incorrectly done so we had to come back for 3rd kringle. The Turtle kringle was pathetic -so small that backing/bag were too big, sparse chocolate filling. The cherry mac kringle was smaller, also, and not filled much and top fell off every piece. Cherry kringle was sparsely filled, and smaller than it should be, too. Extremely disappointed with all 3 kringles and certainly worst ones we have ever had from O&H....and we grew up in Racine thinking O&H best of the bakeries here. Not feeling that anymore. read more

The family enjoys a good Kringle every now and then. My wife saw an ad for O&H at my mother in laws place and we thought it would be fun to take a ride to Wisconsin. The selection of Kringle is outstanding!! The chocolate on the turtle Kringle was great!! The Dreaming of a White Christmas Kringle was great as well. Visited today for lunch! They have sandwiches that are made to order - hot or cold. Breakfast or lunch sandwiches. Each sandwich comes with chips and a cookie. I had the danish grilled cheese. I was introduced to the world of Kringles many years ago as we had some friends that would always send us one for Christmas. Kringles come in many flavors but I really love the Pecan Kringles. This tasty dutch treat is melt in your mouth luscious yum. I have tried the almond, raspberry, chocolate flavors but I always come back to the pecan flavor as my first choice. You can order them directly from this bakery and they will ship one or however many you order right to your door. They also sell them at Trader Joes. They sell by season. Pecan is sold usually right around Easter. They are reasonably priced at $9.99 and a little more expensive when you buy directly from O&H Danish Bakery. In addition to the Kringles, this bakery also sells danish coffee cakes, hand made danish layer cakes, pastries, brownies, cupcakes, Scandinavian breads, gluten free and special diet items, gift packages etc. These make great gifts to share with friends. I am writing this review after finishing a delicious piece of Kringle from O&H with my coffee for breakfast. My story with Kringle begins back in my college days. My roommate and her family were from Racine, a town near Milwaukee that is known for Danish settlement. Periodically, they would send a Kringle to our dorm room, and it never lasted long. You cannot imagine the excitement of a couple of college girls over a Kringle. I had the chance to visit O&H in Racine a couple of times and it smelled amazing. It was also fun to see all of the different Kringle flavors they offered. They also had a lot of other Danish pastries. My favorite Kringle flavors were the nut varieties, especially pecan. These days, the same former roommate always sends me a holiday Kringle, or two, around Christmas. They still don't last long in my home. I recently learned that the local Trader Joe's sometimes sells their Kringle, usually just one flavor at a time. A friend brought some pumpkin over in the fall. I have taken to sending a Kringle to friends here and there as a gifts to introduce them to Kringle. Beware, if you send or receive a Kringle from O&H, you will probably start receiving their catalogs and they are incredibly tempting. If you haven't ever had a Kringle, I recommend you do yourself a favor (or start a new addiction) and give it a try. read more

Being half Italian, with a smattering of several other European countries, and having had Eclairs from at least a dozen different places (including Italy) over the years, I feel that I'm well qualified to know what makes a good Eclair. Around my town, finding a good Eclair won't happen. :-( And, finding a place online isn't as easy as is with most other foods So, using Amazon, I ordered (accidentally 2) boxes. Now, rather than shipping both in one box (there was plenty of room), they shipped them separately. :-( I delayed posting a review because I tried three different thawing methods. 1. 2 hour quick thaw at room temperature: Left the shell a bit wet, and soggy. Also, the filling wasn't 100% thawed. 2. 8-10 hrs in the refrigerator: Fully thawed. But, the ganache topping was still a bit solid. 3. 20 hrs in a sealed container in the fridge: Fully thawed. However, this seems to have caused the sugar in the topping to rise, as it tasted too sweet. Also, there was a slight aftertaste that I didn't care for (perhaps too many unnecessary ingredients?). Though, it doesn't last long, between this, and the sugary taste, I don't think I'll finish them off. Now, they taste good, and have filling in almost every bite (which is better than I can say for many other places, including my favorite place in Phoenix, AZ). But, as you can see by the one photo, they are quite small. So, this makes them very expensive. But, to help satisfy a craving, or once every year, or two, then it may be worth it. Though, after having 3 in 2 weeks, I don't think I'll be able to finish them (may even throw I rest out). read more

ONH bakery has gone downhill over the last four years. I boycotted it as they spelled my mother-in-law's name wrong on her funeral cake however memorial Day. My family loves the garlic bread, so I broke down and bought two loaves to the tune of $8.70 of course I forgot to serve it so the other night I made some for me and my daughter and my granddaughter it was so bad there was no garlic butter or very very little so Sunday I returned one and a half loaves in the pieces that were left from the half a loaf that I served. I couldn't get a cash refund because I didn't have the receipt and she couldn't find the order on my rewards phone number obviously this "" manager who really wasn't just somebody filling in for the day I guess was Ruud unhelpful never apologized so stay away. O&H bakery is not the same ever since Mic left. Eric has drove their business into just a greedy corporate piece of crap. read more

Dulce de Leche Paczki: O&H Danish Bakery opened in 1949 and has been family owned for four generations. Although they're known primarily for their Kringles, one of their unique seasonal offerings is paczki. A paczki is sometimes confused with a doughnut, but there are some key differences. Paczki are denser, richer, and chewier because they contain more eggs, butter, and enriching ingredients like high-gluten flour and grain alcohol. Like a bismark doughnut, they are deep-fried dough, filled with confiture (yuck) or other sweet filling, and are usually covered in powdered sugar, icing, or glaze. They originated in Poland as a way to use up leftover ingredients that are considered rich in flavor before the start of lent. Don't feel bad if you've never heard of paczki as they are a regional treat in the U.S. (primarily in the Midwest). Even though I've lived in the Midwest my entire life, I've avoided paczki as I find fruit filling to be gross (like traditional prune, really!?). O&H solved my problem with their new Dulce de Leche Paczki. It's absolutely stuffed with smooth caramel custard, topped with rich caramel icing, and teeming with crunchy toffee bits and a few chocolate chunks. My paczki was huge and hefty thanks to all that filling, and they did not skimp like some doughnut shops notoriously do. To be honest, I did not notice any difference with the texture compared to that of a doughnut (not a complaint, just observation). Another observation is it looked different from the stock photo and even some of the others on display. Specifically, it had significantly less chocolate chunks and way more toffee. I was disappointed initially, but it ended up being irrelevant because what surprised me the most was the crunchy toffee bits. The texture and flavor were fantastic, while on the other hand the chocolate was overly bitter. In the end, I chose wisely for my first ever paczki, Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews *I hope this is back next year and that they continue to experiment with non-fruit flavors, like Nutella and cookie butter. It would be nice if paczki were available for a week or so instead of one day, but there might be a logistical reason for that or they're just traditionalists. I also want to note that I chose O&H over several other local bakeries for my first paczki for a few key reasons: 1. Online ordering 2. Multiple locations (one was conveniently near me) 3. What a cool business and such delicious pastries! My first introduction to the Danish cringle is what they sell at. Trader Joe's, but this place is so much better! They had a section with shelves full of different flavors of cringles, and their main counter area had a bunch of different desserts and pastry items for sale. They also have a refrigerated section full of various baked goods that you can bake at home as well as some food items. It is very popular place so I would recommend getting there early. I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin & I have lived in four states since moving away. I've ordered from O&H in every state I've lived in, sending to family and friends. They all rave about it... You will not find this delicate, deliciousness at your grocers or any other state. This is old school bakery goodness that doesn't exist anymore. Fantastic Bakery! I have always seen them on TV and was surprised to see them as I was driving by, I did not know they were not as far away as I thought. I had to stop!! They have a drive through for kringle! I did go in to see what they had. It was wonderful! The staff was really friendly. They had donuts, kringle, cakes and more! They had sandwiches and food you could eat in if you were interested in lunch too. I got some fresh kringle to share with the family for Independence Day. My friend and I tried their donuts-they were light and fluffy just like a great donut should be. They had strudel and cookies and more. I was so happy I stopped. We do love the O&H Kringles especially the almond flavor but we usually get them at Trader Joes when they carry them around some of the holidays. I suppose if we lived closer to Racine we might stop at an actual O&H though the prices here were at least $2 more than at Trader Joes! I could not believe the price when they rang up at $11each! At this location there were plenty of other sweet treats including some tempting donuts but we passed on those given we had two Kringles in hand. So disappointed in the quality of O & H. It continues to go down hill the larger the business gets. The OG O & H was great. Gone is the traditional flakey crust for Kringle and pastries. Came to town to visit family and they had 2 O & H Kringle waiting for us (almond and cherry). First time ever we threw out part of a Kringle. The dough was thick and way too much frosting. A week late later we purchased Seven Sisters and donuts. Also disappointed in those. Again the pastries were thick and not flakey and the thick frosting on the Seven Sisters took away from the flavor. Horrible customers service. My delivery never arrived and when I called to find a solution they had none- they implied it was my fault for waiting 10 days. They were not willing to overnight a new Kringle nor could they give me a timeline for when a new one would be sent.
