O & H Danish is my "go to" store for holiday shopping and sending long distance gifts. The quality of their products is superb.

The Bjorn: O&H Danish Bakery opened in 1949 and has been family owned for four generations. Although they're known primarily for their Kringles, their sweet roll of the month for April is the Bjorn. Bjorn means bear in Danish, which is an appropriate name for this treat that resembles a bear claw pastry. O&H's sweet roll is filled with cream cheese and a strip of rich chocolate. Additionally, it is dipped in silky chocolate and finished with a honey glaze. It may be a "bear claw", but this thing was like an elephant's foot, it was massive! My taste buds were enthralled by the perfect combination of sweet and salty (there's pinches of it on the honey glazed portion). Although the filling is thin, looks can be deceiving as it packs more than enough flavor. The portion glazed in honey's flavor reminded me a bit of honey twist pretzels, while the texture of the chocolate end evoked memories of a dipped cone. Texturally the pastry itself is pleasantly chewy. I'm not a hunter, but if literal bear claws tasted like these then I'd be the next Theodore Roosevelt. This is just a small counter in the larger stop that also has Taco Bell and Dunkin Donuts in this truck stop building. It is serve yourself coffee (so no fancy lattes), but they do have someone at the counter for whatever treats or goodies you order. read more

Stopped in this store while I was in Sturtevant. One of the satellite stores, this location serves the same fantastic Kringle as the others. They also have a wide selection of breads and other varieties of pastries. Their coffee is out of this world. Definitely a must stop if you're in the area. read more

Pretty good pastry/bakery. They have a lot of freshly baked items including their famous Danish Kringle. This location is inside a very nice travel plaza that features a restaurant, Dunkin Donuts (weird this is right next to another pastry shop), Taco Bell, big shop, and gas station. Very clean/new and nice restrooms. You can even buy a cheesehead hat here. The best item I bought was the angel food cookies. Very tasty and reasonably priced. The pecan pastries were decent. But, I'd say the regular pastries are fairly similar to Dunkin or elsewhere. Not like I've had in Europe. Still, overall, very solid option. Wisconsinites know the Kringle and it's the main item sold here. So, if you want to be like a local, buy that. It's pretty good. read more

Every time we're driving through town we make it a point to stop here. Rather it's for a famous Kringle or for some other incredible treat, it's always worth the drive. Everyone is welcoming and helpful. So, that's a major plus! I love how the decorations make you feel as if you've boarded upon a Viking ship. From the benches to the signs. Everything makes for an authentic Viking experience. I love every Kringle that I've tried! But, my favorite is the Rhubarb Kringle. It's only out for a short season. So, if you see it. Get 5! Tip-They freeze really well! They are flakey and airy on the outside and sweet and tangy on the inside. I also really enjoy the pecan roll. They are flakey, sticky, and sweet! This particular location for O&H is located in a gas station, so their selection of baked goodies may be limited. They did have a lot of Kringles available on the Sunday morning we stopped in. We were disappointed, however, because their website indicated they had some gluten-free options for baked goods, but this location didn't have any, at least not when we stopped in. The gas station where O&H Danish Bakery is located has had quite the glow up since the last time I was here 3 years ago. There's now a Taco Bell, Dunkin' Donuts, and Blue Badger Bar & Grill here too plus a larger convenience store and cleaner restrooms. This O&H Danish Bakery is just a small section of the gas station, not a full bakery. They did have a good variety of different Kringle flavors to choose from. The staff was quickly replenishing the supply as fast as eager eaters were scooping them up. There were also a few other yummy baked goodies to choose from, and a new self-serve coffee bar. If you're driving down or up the 94, you owe yourself a favor to stop in here and get yourself a Kringle! But more importantly, the staff here are absolutely charming and patient because I had LOTS of questions and they couldn't have been nicer to me on a busy Monday. We left with 5 delicious varieties and arrived at my in-laws house basking in popularity because, as they put it, we bought the "real" ones - LOL! I have ordered several times, and am very disappointed in the products. I ordered the Mother's Day Raspberry Kringle/Tea cake combo. Too sweet. Also ordered for Father's Day. A Banana Cream Pie Kringle, and a Whiskey Kringle. Again, too sweet, no banana flavor, no Whiskey flavor. The orders went to different people, different states. Not having ordered for myself, I don't know my opinion. Also, I believe your website is misleading. Scratch-made, finest ingredients. One look at the ingredients list (after the fact) horrified me. The additives, preservatives, and artificial flavoring are staggering. I have learned that the products are assembly line produced, and the finest ingredients are the cheapest ingredients:-( I was very excited to send the products as gifts, thinking they were more homemade and special, without all the grocery store additives. I believe it is under construction right now so hopefully it isn't always just a wall inside of a gas station... but the Kringle was . We got a raspberry one and every bite was delicious. If you don't have time to go into Racine, definitely get your fix here, they were obviously very fresh and had all the flavors. We've stopped here twice on a drive back to IL. AMAZING kringles. You can't go wrong. We had a cherry cheese that was delicious -- sour and sweet with flaky dough. Even when the bakery is closed you can pick one up and pay over in the gas station side. Yes, it is bizarre to have a good bakery in a gas station, but this place is legit. We also picked up a raspberry chocolate bread that was delicious and very reasonably priced. This time we picked up some delicious chocolate walnut brownies and a beautiful layer cake. I'd also add that adjacent to this bakery is a supremely clean restroom, particularly for a truck stop. This is a super great stop to make if you are driving Milwaukee to Chicago, etc. read more

The employees are always pleasant and helpful. Kringle never disappoints. My issue today is with quality control. I pre-ordered some Paczkis and picked them up today. They were quite dry and light on filling. My order included two (2) raspberry Paczkis. One of the raspberry Paczkis is less than half the size of the other doughnuts in the box. I opened the box and was like "what is that??". O&H can't be beat when it comes to Kringle but for Paczkis, I've bought better ones from Woodmans. read more

In the last six years that I've driven through Wisconsin, I have never left the state without stopping at the Petro station in Sturtevant and picking up a Kringle or two. These are THE BEST. My wife and I were 1) surprised at the size of the "Kringle", 2)impressed with the flaky dough, the freshness of the fillings, (we got a cherry and an almond Kringle) and C) the icing was just right to compliment the rest of the pastry. We got a coffee from DD a few steps away and enjoyed nearly half the cherry Kringle. We plan on making this a ritual holiday observance by ordering them for friends and family. I was pretty bummed with this specific location because they didn't have a selection of kringles when we stopped in. I saw an O&H sign across the road--at a gas station with a Wendy's attached--and asked about that one, and the clerk said they didn't sell their kringles over there (why else would there have been a sign). We went anyway, and found an entire rack of kringles there. So yeah, this location was a dud, but O&H gets five stars because the raspberry kringle was perfection. It was honestly the best baked good we had the entire time we were in Wisconsin. We ate on it all week and it stayed delicious. If you go to this location and they're out, I'd encourage you to go across the road. read more
