Mr. Lus is a solid choice for Chinese take out near me and has been around for years. The food is always fresh and I enjoy those Chinese American dishes we all love. I usually get the combo plates that include an entree, egg roll and rice. Today, I have been battling a cold and cough and some wonton soup sounded perfect to sooth my throat. The rest of my family ordered some different dishes for themselves. We ordered online and I sent my son to pick everything up which only took 20 min. The wonton soup had so many wontons in it I split it into three servings. They also give you the fried wonton strips to sprinkle on top if you like that. The portions on all the other food were also big. Mr. Lus doesn't skimp there. We all had plenty for lunch the next day. The service is always fast, reliable and friendly. There is no dining room. I recently stopped in here yet again for a take out lunch. And chose a nice mixture of items - an Egg Shrimp Roll (it is excellent here), Fried Chicken Wings (on the small side, but delicious), with Shrimp Fried Rice, Fried Small Shrimp, and Mongolian Beef - my first time for the last two items. All the items chosen were good, with the Fried Shrimp and the Mongolian Beef proving to be very, very good! Mongolian Beef is a favorite Chinese American dish. Despite the name, it was developed in Taiwan before coming to the USA, an been very popular, especially as a take out item. The version served here is among the best, nearly as good as the best in the area, that served at Jade Garden in Advance. The dish here adheres to the straight forward simplicity of processing quality beef, onions, and peppers well seasoned with a soy based sauce. The fried shrimp are small, fresh tasting, and well breaded and well seasoned. This isn't an item often thought of when considering Chinese American appetizer, but I would suggest you consider it , especially when a bit of hot mustard or Chinese hot sauce is added. I have tried at least a dozen items here, and there have only been a couple I would not reorder. They are quick and the food is great! I have had to travel more for work and working late nights. A colleague said this was the best Chinese food take out place in town so we ordered some takeout before burning the midnight oil. It was really good! I got their American chicken wings, beef with broccoli, and we shared a vegetable fried rice. The chicken wings made me miss the chicken wings in my childhood home in Florida. When I go back, I can't wait to order the chicken wings from that Chinese place. While the wings were HUGE, I didn't like how they were fried and there wasn't much flavor. The beef and broccoli were delicious. They give a good amount of beef. The fried veggie fried rice was good too. There isn't a place to sit of course bc it's a takeout place. Being from NY, it took me a while to find a fast food Chinese joint that I was truly happy with. Mr. Lu's has been my #1 choice for years now. The food is the closest I find that compares to what I was used to in NY. They have all the same selection of dishes. The place is for take out only. After you get your order they have a table on the side to grab your utensils and sauces like hot mustard, duck sauce and soy sausage as well as fortune cookies. There is one girl who handles taking your order and payment. She is always friendly and quick as it is normally busy and they have a lot of orders that get called in ahead. There are like 3 chairs in case you have to wait for your order. Some decor but nothing special. Very simple environment that has remained the same over the years. The important part is that the food is always good. I love their fried chicken wings with fried rice......I always upgrade to pork fried rice. Chicken is perfectly seasoned and fried to a nice outer crisp. The rice is also a good accompaniment. The boneless rib tips are covered in their house sauce and are small tender pieces, though sometimes I feel that some are not as tender. The shrimp rolls could be bigger and have more shrimp IMHO, but they are good with either the duck sauce, or my favorite, the hot mustard. I've officially found the best Chinese food in Winston Salem! First thing I noticed was their 98 sanitation grade and their old school Chinese restaurant feel. The ambiance instantly let you know this food is about to be amazing. I ordered the Tai Cheng Chicken and it did not disappoint! Fresh and full of flavor. The rice was perfectly cooked. Service was extremely fast. I live on the opposite side of town from this restaurant. Nonetheless, it will not stop me from making this drive so I can explore their menu. read more

Some things never change (and that's a good thing in this case!). Mr. Lu's was my favorite take-out Chinese place when I was in high school and as a young adult and I recently visited again. Now that I'm in my late 30s, I wondered if maybe it was just nostalgia that made me remember Mr. Lu's was better than it actually was. However, that was not the case. I ordered (my old favorite) the sesame chicken with an egg roll and my meal was delicious! Mr Lu's has been our go-to for years and years but sadly the quality seems to have gone downhill, particularly with the sweet and sour chicken - going from smaller, non-greasy, "melt in your mouth" pieces to larger, greasier and thicker/tougher breading. We also miss the white rice on the side. The change seems to have happened around the time they changed from traditional take-out containers. All I can say is wow! Mr. Lus is seriously amazing. We ordered a huge assortment and were not at all disappointed! Everything was good or great! The real star of the show here is their boneless ribs. They are not like any I have ever had before, and while pricey, you get a container packed to the gills with the most delicious, juicy, tender meat I have ever gotten from a Chinese place. We also got the PuPu platter which gives you a good introduction to a lot of their other appetizers. Everything it came with was good and I would especially call out their eggrolls as excellent! Since we moved down from NY, we have not had a good egg roll until these. These have nice bits of pork inside, the mixture is well seasoned and the skin is crisp and crunchy. The meats on a stick that came with the PuPu platter- both great. Chicken on a stick is one of my Chinese go tos and this was just as good as any other place. Big, generous pieces, juicy and flavorful. Their chicken wings- on par with most places. For the most exceptional wings from a Chinese spot, try Panda Panda in Lexington. They are the best I have EVER had. The fried shrimp that came with the PuPu platter- better than any other place. Usually this item winds up being basically popcorn shrimp or epic amounts of breading, these were large butterflied shrimp with a coating that matched their size and I was really into them! We also tried the fried dumplings- absolutely great. Delicious, the sauce was perfect, the filling was juicy and generous. Wonton soup- another MUST try. Usually this is an item I don't even bother with, but I was so glad my husband got the big one because this is seriously the best wonton soup I have ever had. You can tell the difference in a big way, the dough was delicate but with a bite that survived the broth, the broth itself was rich and flavorful and comforting. This will definitely be something we get again! The sesame chicken was really well done, not the best of my life but definitely top ten. The rice and lo mein- both acceptable, not the best. The sugar donuts were just as you want, warm little pillows with ungodly amounts of white sugar. A cool thing here is that they give you little tubs of hot mustard, soy sauce and what we think was kewpie Mayo? I will ask what the white sauce is next time we go. I had a craving for Chinese fried chicken wings, so I looked up the most popular spot for Chinese food. Mr.Lu's, was what came up, and it did not disappoint. My partner and I shared a lunch special along with the pu pu platter, which came with fried chicken wings, chicken, on a stick, and crab Rangoon. The lunch special was an appropriate size, and we were both full after splitting it. The platter was also delicious; the meats were all very delicious, and I liked the variety for only $14.50. I ordered takeout so I can't speak to much about the service or ambience, but my order was ready quickly in under 10 minutes. I definitely appreciated this as I am a very busy student. I absolutely love this place. Our favorite Chinese takeout in the area. We have ordered from here more then 5 times now, the food is always hot and delicious. The chicken is always good, the fried rice, egg drop soup, dumplings, and wontons are great as well. I LOVE the lo mein. It's made perfectly. The white rice is not good, not cooked the right way or something. The shrimp was a little overdone and dry as well. Other then that, everything has been stellar. Ah man! I hate having to update a review to remove a star like this, but as I said, I am a snob for proper Chinese food. With plenty of competition around, from Mandarin to the more authentic Cantonese of New Sichuan, there's no excuse for Mr Lus to start slacking. Sadly, this last go around was not their best stuff. I got an order of chicken satay and wonton soup. The satay was dryer than usual. Not as fresh and less flavor. The soup was missing the scallions from the broth, and the wontons were slightly undercooked dough and rather under salted. Also, the soup noodles were of the manufacturer packaged variety, and they were stale! Stop cutting corners, and get some more help if you need it! The order was done in the 15 minutes they said it would be, despite them being very busy at 6 on a Thursday. They did look overwhelmed behind the counter, and I'm hoping it was just an off night. They have online ordering on their website now, but I did not try that yet. I would want to give them a mulligan, but they need to get their act back together. read more

My family eats a lot of Chinese food, and nothing compares to this place. When trying out different places, we always get steamed dumplings, crab rangoon, and sesame chicken. The steamed dumplings have the perfect filling to noodle ratio. The crab rangoons were perfect (a lot of times they are super greasy at other places.) The sesame chicken was so fresh.
