It's been a few months since I've visited Olive Tree. I was craving a burger but not from a chain restaurant. Off to Olive tree! This is a counter service restaurant and they also give you a buzzer to let you know when to pick up your order. You also clear your own table when finished. I mention all this because their POS system asked for a tip. In instances like this, I don't feel obligated to tip. This is just my personal feeling on our tip culture here in the US. You do what you feel is right for you. Both my husband and I got a 1/4 lb burger. He had cheese on his while I ordered mine without. You can pick your toppings here so don't be shy about asking for what you want. We both asked for Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo and ketchup. If you like your burger Carolina style they have the chili, and slaw too! A basket of zucchini fries completed our order. We chose to get cups of water for a beverage but they have Pepsi products available in their fountain machine as well as teas. They expanded their dining area some years ago and I like how it's has a mix of tables and booths in both the main and extended areas. The main area was a bit chilly that day but the extended area has a separate cooling/heating system and it was more comfortable for us. Our order was ready in about 10 min. I was impressed with the burger on sight. It was a true 1/4 lb patty, shredded lettuce-my favorite for burgers-and all my requested toppings. It was hot, fresh and made just like I asked. Our zucchini fries were crispy and they give you a bunch so I was definitely full after this meal. I do wish they salted the zucchini fries a bit right out of the fryer though. I need to remember Olive Tree the next time I want a burger. I usually hit up couple places around town for my burger fix if I don't feel like driving very far. This place seems to sneak under my radar too frequently and I need to remind myself how good their food is. I have tried some items that were not to my liking but their menu is pretty diverse and there is definitely something for everyone. They used to have a really good pancake breakfast years ago. The pancakes were delicious and made with cinnamon. We went back and they had changed them completely which was a disappointment. Whenever I revisit a restaurant I enjoy trying things on the menu I haven't had yet. The burger was a very pleasant surprise this time. My previous visit I had a tuna sandwich. It was good and full of tuna but lacked a bit of a vinegar bite in the form of pickles or drizzle of red wine vinegar I was looking for. Not their fault, just my preference. Olive Tree recently opened a second location in Mocksville at a gold club. I hear the menu is expanded over there. Maybe one day I'll take a drive out to check that out.

Ranch Dressing with the Zucchini

It has been years since I've visited this little deli, and the food did not come close to what I remember from my previous visits! The Fried Zucchini was way over cooked, and tasteless, and even the ranch dressing failed to help. The Gyro was little better - the pita was tough and very chewy, the meat lacked flavor, the tzatziki was thin, and the Gyro was poorly put together. No return visit, for sure!!!!

Tuna Sandwich with Fried Zucchini

It's been two years since we've been to the Olive Tree. We were long time regulars but started receiving cold food on a regular basis. The Taco Burrito was a family favorite, but ice cold beans just didn't taste as good as when they are hot. But last night we went in for a burger, and I can't recall ever having one here. They serve a 1/4 pound patty and it felt more like a 1/3 pound... so I'm glad I didn't order the double cheeseburger, it would have been huge. They use a massive sesame seed bun, but don't worry, there's a thick patty that covers 90% of that bun. This burger was juicy, even though it probably started as a frozen patty. It had a ton of condiments, mustard, mayo and ketchup, plus shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles and red onions. This was a solid burger experience and only $5.99, a bargain in the summer of 2024. We enjoyed this with zucchini fries, which are always great, but those will set you back another $6.99 for the large basket. Nice job Olive Tree... maybe I'll try the Burrito again someday soon.

Ribeye Steak Sub

Counter service restaurant, friendly but not very helpful. I asked for recommendations and the girl at the counter couldn't seem to recommend anything specific. I ordered the traditional beef gyro and it was a little disappointing. The pita bread was very tough and the meat wasn't very tender at all. My husband ordered the ribeye sub. It was very filling and the meat was seasoned well. We shared a side of onion rings and that was the best out of everything we ordered. Very crispy and the ranch was "the good ranch". We visited around 11:45 am and the restaurant was very quiet at that time.

2 Gyros, some spaghetti and cheese sticks.

MY OH MY.... This is definitely the most overrated place I've found in Winston on Yelp. The gas station in the town I went to college in, served better food than this. I guess I should start with the 8 dollar spaghetti that was literally just noodles and something that resembled more of a dipping sauce than spaghetti sauce.... it was like they took a bunch of different canned sauces and mixed it with salsa. Very underwhelming. The Gyro was flavorless and dry. They didn't even heat the pita up so it was just hard and dry. The tzatziki sauce was also flavorless with very little dill or cucumber or really any kind of flavor. The cheese sticks were straight from Costco but worse and not warm. Based on how large and diverse their menu is, it seems like they don't make anything fresh and it shows. I don't know what the history of this place is but it seems like it just has a bunch of regulars that don't have very good perspective on food. I was stunned how much we spent on such a mediocre meal.

Lunch !

Great little lunch spot on busy Stratford rd. Huge variety for lunch and dinner. Nicely kept and clean. Order at counter and pick up when they call you kinda place. Went for the chicken souvlaki and fries. Not bad for. $10. Nice soft pita and plenty of lettuce, tomatoes and onions and taziki sauce. And lots of grilled chicken. The fries were awesome too. Hot and crispy. Great family run business. Busy too on a Monday lunch . I was impressed how organized and clean the place is. Has a adequate parking lot too. Nice to run into and grab a quick bite.

You come in, order your food and have a seat. Nice people on the cash register, nice place. All the food we got was very good. Will definitely be back. I suggest they fill up a dinner plate a little bit more with fries, very small portion. Same goes for the fried zukini, just take a dollar extra and make it a nice portion.

Greek omlette. Added peppers and onions for only 20 cents more !

Fanatic food. Amazing prices. You get quality and a good amount of food finally at prices that don't rip you off. Come support the mom and pop shops. So much better than chains. Great breakfast. Going back to try the lunch later ! Friendly service and very clean restaurant

I didn't expect the restaurant to be busy on a weeknight, but I was obviously wrong as the parking lot was nearly full. We found a spot at the rear of the restaurant and made our way inside. We were promptly greeted and shown to our table near the fireplace. A quick glance around confirmed that the place was jumping, which is good news for any restaurant during the middle of the week. A good balance of menu options from salads, sandwiches, fish, steaks, etc. Expect to pay $20-30 per person and some entrees are ala carte. They appear to have a good selection of wine, beers and cocktails from the long list in the menu. I went with the lasagna; my wife had the fish and chips; and my colleague went with the Beast Burger. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selection. The temperature of my lasagna could have been a tad hotter, but it wasn't enough of an issue to send it back. I would order it again. Service was good throughout our visit, but I am deducting one star for the noise level. The high ceilings give the restaurant a beautiful lodge look and feel, but they make for a very loud dining experience. The sound level at times was more like a school cafeteria in my opinion. Perhaps a table on the side of the dining room would be quieter where nearby walls could help absorb some of the noise. Bottom line: not the place for a quiet, romantic dinner.

Here's what we thought: **Goat Cheese Butternut Squash Ravioli** Delicious but my Dad thought it was a little rich. The couple of bites I tried were excellent! The chicken was moist and well seasoned. **Moroccan BBQ Pork Chop** This was the best pork chop I've ever had. Moms agreed! Dad wished he had gotten the pork chop! This was his favorite out of the three meals we tried! **Prime Rib** I had to go all in and got the 12oz. It's the best prime rib I've had in years! They serve it with au jus and creamy horseradish. That creamy horseradish is exactly the way I like it, the au jus was a nice addition and the steak was cooked perfectly! I will definitely order again! This was my favorite out of the three entrees we tried. **Crispy Brussels Sprouts** We weren't as thrilled about these as everyone else. I thought they were dry and needed something more. Maybe they didn't add enough jam and/or balsamic this time? **Chorizo Potato Soup** Very nice! The sausage wasn't too overpowering and I like the creamy broth. Different than anything I've ever had but good.

I kept going back and forth on what I wanted to rate this place, but I think 3 stars fits right. No apps were ordered, but I got the fried flounder and shrimp plate with the sweet potato casserole and fries. My wife got the pecan salmon dish (she swapped out the chicken fyi) & her sides were the same casserole and Mac n cheese. Starting with hers, the salmon was perfect....crispy skin that was seasoned very well. It didn't need the glaze that came with it honestly. Was also moist....honestly, it was the best thing we ate all night after I got a taste myself. For mines, the shrimp breader was tasty and the shrimp was cooked pretty decently...wasn't tough or overcooked. The flounder left alot to be desired. It was cooked quite well, but there wasn't any breader or seasoning for that matter.....no flavor at all. Their tartar sauce was decent too...it did taste like it may have been pre packaged, but it was good. The sweet potato casserole wasn't a casserole at all. It was basically sweet potato mash. Which isn't terrible and it tasted ok. However, I was expecting something completely different so that was a letdown. Their fries were good, however.....had some sort of seasoning salt flavor to them and they were crispy. My wife wasn't too fond of the Mac n cheese. In her words, it tasted like "microwaved pasta with cheese tossed on top". I didn't try it since I'm picky about Mac n cheese myself. I barely order it off anyone's menu so I dodged another disappointment with that one. Regarding the service, our waitress was ok. Nothing that honestly stands out. She was nice, but it seemed their whole wait staff may have been busy since it was dinner rush time. Their prices were decent too, esp in this day and age. All in all, if we do go back, I'd try different things. The place was packed and it appeared everyone was somewhat satisfied with their food. There wasn't much of an ambiance there. The place was pretty full....seemed more of a family style restaurant....it was also kinda cool how they had some sort of video games and stuff in a side room location. I'm not sure if they'll be added to the rotation, but we may consider them again just based on the salmon alone.

Although it's tucked away in an unassuming business district, this restaurant is truly a hidden gem. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm, inviting space and exceptional service. Everyone made us feel welcome, and the attention to detail throughout our meal was outstanding. We started with the Ahi Tuna appetizer, which was absolutely delicious. It was served over a bed of crisp sliced cucumbers and the most amazing vinegar coleslaw. The combination of flavors was fresh, light, and memorable. Even the warm dinner rolls were outstanding and set the tone for the meal. For our entrées, the meatloaf was everything comfort food should be. It was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, served over creamy mashed potatoes with fresh French green beans. We also ordered the Chef's seasonal Squash Casserole, and it was phenomenal. If it's on the menu when you visit, don't miss it. Milner's way exceeded our expectations: wonderful food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere made for a memorable evening. The atmosphere was warm, sophisticated, and causal all at the same time. The dim lights created a nice ambiance without being so dark that you can't see. The dining room offers a mix of traditional tables, semi-private booths and a bar area. They also have a private room available. The bathroom was very clean and even smelled fresh. I tried the Moravian cookie-pecan crusted salmon with collard greens, zucchini. The meal was a nice size and tasted amazing. I ate every bite. When we first walked in, it was busy and we heard the hostess tell the couple in front of us they would need to wait over an hour for a table - Lucky for me my wife made reservations and we were seated immediately! It was a bit on the noisy side but not so bad we couldn't have a conversation. Our servers, Thomas, was fantastic start to finish with good recommendations, attentive service without being overbearing, and a great personality. Good staff make a business shine! We started with glasses of wine and were impressed with how generous they poured. Perhaps it was a visual illusion, but they felt like very large glasses of wine and made it feel like a very good value. They have a good selection of wines to choose from along with a full bar. Appetizer was the Crab Cake Egg Rolls, something I don't think I've seen anywhere else. They're cooked in Beef Tallow which gave a very savory flavor and crispy texture. They were a bit on the oily side but overall flavor was delicious, and I really liked the dipping sauce which was like a very herb-heavy tartar sauce. For entrees, my wife had the Filet and I had a New York Strip. I don't have the words to describe how delicious and perfectly prepared both of these were. I didn't even bother asking for steak sauce because the perfectly tender and seasoned steak didn't need it. Nobody wants to pay high prices for a steak and receive something low quality, and I was thrilled with the quality of the steaks here. Surrounding tables likewise had great looking meals and I overheard them voicing pleasure too. As sides go, the baked potatoes and salads were excellent too. I got the hot bacon vinegarette dressing and was surprised it was actually served quite hot. It had a really rich and slightly tangy flavor that was unique and I really enjoyed on my salad. I have no complaints here and will absolutely be back. Of course it's on the pricey end, but this is the type of establishment you reserve for a special night out, not your average Tuesday night. There was a 20 min wait and we were starving after a long travel day and eager to get to campus so we ate at the mediocre crepes restaurant next door instead. When we picked her up a week later I was prepared with reservations. However, when we checked in they told us they don't take reservations so it must be for their sister restaurant (oops) and the wait was even longer this time. One of the hostesses mentioned there would be seating clearing at the bar within minutes, which was good enough for us. We sat down 3 minutes later and ordered a few minutes after that. My daughter went for a cheeseburger which she happily ate stating that the food at Wake was NOT good all week. My husband enjoyed his turkey club and packed the other half for his flight later that evening (lunch and dinner). I went with the crab cake appetizer, which I thought was just OK. It was only a few dollars cheaper than the sandwich so I probably should have gotten that instead, but didn't want to be tempted with the bread and fries. We were in and out within 30 minutes, which I appreciated since we had a drive to Chapel Hill ahead of us. No other way to describe it. I also loved the fact they served it with warm and toasted bread pieces.....added another depth of flavor to the entire bite. Entire thing was filled with crab meat as well. I'm used moreso to the chunkier style of crab dip, if that makes any sense, but whatever they did to theirs passed my test. For our entrees, we both opted for burgers. I've been waiting something that isn't a smash burger for quite sometime. No disrespect to smash burgers, but I've been wanting a thick, hand patted burger and they delivered. I ordered the tavern burger with the medium cook and a side of fries. Burger cook was perfect. One thing I loved was that the actual patty had char marks on it & it added more flavor to it. Very juicy and flavorful. Their fries were solid too....crispy yet soft in the middle. My wife got their bacon jam burger with a well done cook and she raved about how juicy it was. The cook was to her preference as well. She wasn't too impressed with the pasta salad as a side, but she did get an order of sweet potato fries and they were great as well. Finished the evening with their carrot cake and key lime pie to go and they were both delicious. Their key lime may be the best I've had in this area. Our server Morgan was awesome as well. Very attentive and helpful with the menu suggestions and explaining the things she personally liked, along with what was popular with other patrons. Their setup is odd....not saying that in a bad way, but its an older building and the layout says that. We were seated very quickly. Again, Morgan was awesome and made sure we were taken care of.
