Dixieland Delight! The band knew it. I'll be damned. Request bands are fun. So, I went back to the State Fair this year. Not as crowded and sweaty and miserable as I remember. O'Gara's was my first stop on my way in. You can't miss it. Just off to your left when you walk through the main gate. 5 bucks for a 12 ounce or 8 bucks for a 20 ounce. Not really all that more pricey than most places these days, except you paid the 11 to 15 bucks to get in past the gate. Met some friends. Had the Reuben Bites and the Grilled Cheese Bites. GCB just OK, Reuben bites were money. Cover band was playing while we there. Three dudes all on guitar. Quite good. Maybe better than G Love and Special Sauce playing next door. Country Rock but heavy on the Rock. They kept asking for requests and I gave them an obscure one, and they nailed it out of the park. Whooeee. GET ER DONE! Went and did the Space Tower, the Sky Ride and the Slingshot - TWICE! Needed a beer after that adrenaline rush. Old dude in front of me was flirting with chick behind me, but bought us both our beers! SCORE! Close to five stars. However, Fair prices suck and the food orders come out SLOOOWW.

Went to Merlin's for the first time as an adult on St. Patty's day…read more Very perfect vibe for St. Patty's. Lowkey grungy. Just such a PUB. They had live Irish music when we first came too, which was so lovely. They have a good beer selection and lots of different food. It feels very fun and community-y in there (though I am interested what it's like on a non-St. Patty's day day). A good neighborhood hang (saw so many people from high school). Excited to come back and see what it's like normally :)

This is the hardest review I think I have ever written. We attended Burns night and love it every…read moreyear. But this year we had the most horrible service. More on that below. We started with Sausage Rolls and Cheese Curds (don't miss) and they were both very good. Good thing we ordered them early. Our waitress didn't seem to write anything down. She came by later to ask if we wanted the special Haggis dinner. We were sharing the table with another couple and 2 of us ordered the special. But she wouldn't take an order from the other 2. The Haggis was served lukewarm and she still hadn't taken the order from the other 2. Finally I flagged her down and they ordered. We were pretty much done eating when their food arrived. At this point we still hadn't received the requested water we all ordered at 6:40pm. It took a while but I finally got her attention and we ordered water again and dessert. Forty minutes later - no dessert. She had forgotten to order it. Another 30 minutes until it came out. By then I wanted to go home. Most people had already left. I asked for the check - 40 minutes later it is delivered and it is totally wrong. We had extra drinks and meals and no credit for the prepayment. I get in line at the order register behind another customer whose ticket was wrong (his took 5 tries to correct). More people fall in line behind me. The couple at our table also had an incorrect bill. On the bill I had written the correct items and crossed out the wrong charges. Right there in purple ink. She still messed it up on the 2nd try. At this point there was another line at the register so we just paid the bill as it was close. We really didn't want to be there another hour. The food and Burn's Night I would give a 4 star rating, the waitress a 0. I decided to make this a 3 star as Burn's Night is special.

We came here at a pretty busy time, but the server was very apologetic and quick with everything!…read more The FIFA games were on with plenty of room to watch multiple games. I had the All Tapped Up burger which was even better than the server described! One call out I saw was an old lady had fallen on the street. Multiple people were trying to help her get up, but it was one strapping lad from the restaurant staff that came out and lifted her up, literally. He just helped her then went right back to work! I was very impressed by him. If anyone does read this and know who he was, give him all the props!

Always hoppin @grovelandtap in St.Paul, for good reason. Great food. They have done some updates…read moreover the last year or so and have a year round patio out back. The menu has done some recent changes but classics are still there, just make sure to peep the daily specials to see what days some things are available if you're hankering for something specific. With some updates I asked the server their favorite item and went with the suggestion and wow... this burger was top notch. Tapped Burger (it was so tasty and a perfect mix of some sweet in with the salty. Bourbon bacon jam, truffle aioli, white cheddar and iceberg lettuce on a brioche bun big yum factor) Pickle Fries and Homemade Ranch (these are the good good ones. Cut the long way, crunchy batter and really good ranch yes please. NOTE: only there on Thursdays) Sweet Potato Fries and their Chipotle Peanut Aioli (I enjoy sweet potato fries but everyone does them differently so I usually let someone else get them and take a mental note. Went for it and so glad I did. These were PERFECT. Tasted like a real sweet potato was cut and lightly fried to make soft but solid fries, the dip is pretty awesome too, you just gotta get them) Also pictured is their cheeseburger with an extra patty - all of their burgers and sauces are delish. Seriously. not pictured but a classic here is their Chicken Tender Melt (available on Wednesdays) If you haven't been, you gotta. If it's been a while, check out the menu updates.
