Tamara is a magician! I saw her for an eyebrow tint/lamination and eyelash tint/lift. I never thought my eyebrows could ever look like this again after all the damage from waxing for years. I am in actual awe of how amazing they look. I also see Tamara for nano-needling facials and my skin has never been more moisturized. I wake up with the healthiest looking skin. I have been going to O'Hair Salon for over 7 years. I was late to my appointment by 33 minutes this Saturday, which was for a cut and full foil.. I knew I was late so I said, "please just give me a haircut" to respect my hairdressers time. When I went to pay, O'Hair Salon's Salon Manager made the decision to charge me the full amount of the foil I did not receive- I would. have been ok for a fee but $175 for being 30 minutes late .?? AND, in addition to paying around $230 4 times a year for seven years.... to do the math... This is spending over $10,000 over 7 years. To not cut me a break.... not cool and disrespectful, to me, as a patron. O'hair Salon needs to check themselves when it comes to this type of management judgement calls. read more

I went for a consultation to see if they could take hand tied extensions out. Starting with the receptionist I could tell the salon catered to white clients. Her greeting to me was faaaaar different from how she greeted older white clients who came in after me. Stacy looked at my hair for a few minutes while looking completely bewildered. I told her my MALE hairstylist in DC did my extensions and I just wanted to get them taken out in MD to not have to make a trip down to DC just for a removal. She continually referred to him as "she" despite me correcting her numerous times. Obviously not listening to what I was telling her. She asked for Johanna to come and take a look but before Johanna even came she determined she couldn't do anything and I need to try a black salon. She literally whispered the word black. How sad and disappointing that during a time so many in the service industry have suffered, this salon isnt willing to be flexible and offer meaningful service to its customers. I called to try to schedule an appointment for color, and despite a full open availability the following day (never a good sign) I was told that they refuse to allow me to come in for just a partial highlight like I wanted, and I would have to have add ons and essentially pay for significant additional services I neither want nor need. I asked if they were willing to make an exception to allow their colorists the opportunity to work, and was told, in essence, NO. How sad, totally disappointed, what a shame. read more

Worst hair treatment ever in my life - I had a hair perm and cut a couple of days ago. After treatment, my hair looked like having been blew in the wind without style at all. The even worse part is perm irritated my scalp so badly that multiple itchy red bumps developed on my scalp later of the day. I have my hair perm many times but perm caused such scalp irritation only happened at this "high end" hair salon, which is unacceptable! I go about every year or so to Tamera for facials (I no longer live in the area). Still to this day she gives the best facials. Have been to many other places and she's my fave. Her demeanor is loving and kind, she informs you about your skin concerns and also lets you know what areas look fine and don't need change. The OHair facial room is very peaceful and most products have pleasant smell. The facial includes massage , light leg and foot, then more in depth shoulder/arm massage. It's just incredible. I always get the cheapest facial, the Hydra Flash and it's worth every penny. It's a little different each time depending on what my skin needs so I love that it's customizable. The pros: It's an attractive space with a great selection of Oribe and Bumble & Bumble products. I was able to get an appointment an hour before on a Friday night. The receptionist and Stacey, my hairstylist were kind and chatty, truly welcoming. The cons: I went into my appointment with a very specific cut in mind. I even provided a picture for reference. I explained that I only wanted an inch off but needed the weight removed from my fine but thick hair. I essentially wanted a long blunt bob and thought I had communicated that clearly to Stacey. I wear glasses and can't see without them so I couldn't see how much hair was being cut during my appointment. I ended up with a rounded VERY short bob, which looks fine but is not what I asked for in the slightest. I can barely pull it into a bun or a ponytail which is something I wanted after the cut. My directions were ignored. If Stacey couldn't execute the hairstyle that I asked for, she should have communicated that before she started cutting. I paid $78 for a shampoo and cut that I didn't want so I will not be returning. Back to Hair Cuttery it is! read more

I've had four different hairstyles in the past four years-- from long to short to medium and now really short! I like the change and feel it does test the stylists more than just a trim. I've had cuts done by Stacey, Ashley and Danielle. All have been great at counseling me on what they feel would work best. Great customer service. All have done a great job with the haircuts. They take their time and always offer touch ups the next day if needed. The no tipping policy is great. They also offer a discount if you donate hair to Locks of Love but make sure you mention it when you make the appointment since it is only on certain days. I got a hair cut by a "senior stylist", expecting a satisfactory result. I was quiet disappointed with the result. The amount of time she spent on my hair was about 15 minutes. My hair came out as if it was cut from a pony tail. The back was uneven and when I showered I found couple strands of hair that was longer than the rest, it looked as if those strands were not cut. It really makes me wonder, what makes the cut as a "senior stylist" I called O'hair, they gracefully offered a complimentary haircut, but it would have to be with the same stylist. Given the fact that I had a unsatisfying haircut from the stylist, I did not take the offer. Taking in account of this experience, I would really question about going back. On the plus side, there is a no tipping policy, the staff was friendly and professional, and it is a calm atmosphere. read more

Before my hair was long and health now it's really really bad and i am losing soo much hair everyday. Customer service is horrible. I have been going to this salon for over 10 years and it has gotten much worse as the time has gone on. The stylists are good and always do a good job on my cut and color. However, they way they handle things like price increases without informing the client is unacceptable. I originally started going there because I loved the no tipping environment and really liked the people. Unfortunately there has been more than one occasion where I feel like I was cheated. This time was the last straw and they lost me as a client. I called and made my appointment less than a week before and verified on their website the price. I now know from a previous incident that I need to make sure to ask for a regular stylist and not a senior stylist, which costs more money and from my experience did a horrible job on my hair. Then when I went to pay for my service I had to ask the price they didn't even tell me, like they were trying to hide something. They said that their prices when up that day. I asked if the other price could be honored and they said they would have to speak with a manager, I said ok. Then nothing, not offering to call someone, not providing me with a number or contact information. I just paid the amount and said I would contact management my self. Then the manager stated that we don't inform clients when prices go up and that there was nothing they could do. It was only $10 but it was really the principle of it all. So just a warning to all even if you verify the price you may get another price after your service, and clearly they are not willing to work with you. I think this is bad business and I am surprised they don't have more people who will react this way. read more

O'Hair is pricey but worth it! This is completely a "get what you pay for" circumstance. I got my hair cut by Lindsay and she did a fantastic job. She's great to talk to and I felt that she really was on the same page for what I wanted. They also have a NO TIPPING policy that I love. Yes you do pay a little more, however it's all one price. They're idea is you don't tip professionals (doctors, accountants, etc) so you just pay for the service they provide. If you're willing to spend a little extra, they are worth it! read more

I chose O'hair based on the great reviews I read on Yelp. I am sad to say, my review is not-so-great. I went in around Noon for a color and during the consultation, I explained to the stylist that I wanted "a lighter shade of brown with golden and blonde highlights, not red". After the color and foils were "done" I was lead to the shampoo area where the color was rinsed out. I was told that the stylist requested a deep conditioning treatment be applied and left to sit on my hair for a while. I said "that's fine, but I need to use the restroom first." I was told that the toilets were all out of order. Yikes! My tiny tank was nearly full... I was told that the staff had been using the restrooms in the restaurant next door. (I imagined myself in my dripping hair and coloring cape running through the lunch crowd at the restaurant to use the facilities then hightailing back to the salon next door...Um, I don't think so!!). I gritted my teeth and decided I could probably "hold it". So the deep conditioner went to work. I tried to relax. Finally, I was back in the stylist's chair and I looked in the mirror. Gasp!!! I could see the dark orange and I knew the damage was done. I kept my eyes closed throughout most of the styling, praying I would not wet myself and trying to hold back tears of disappointment at my new light orange color. Finally, when the stylist said "Ok, what do you think?" I wanted to scream,"I think I am about to make a huge puddle on the floor!!" But I decided she was asking about the hair and I subtly managed to say "Um, it is more red than I thought it would be. I will just go home and see if it is the shock of the new color. (Translated, this means, I really, REALLY have to get to a bathroom and I do not want to discuss this right now). The stylist said "OK, let me know, we can always tweak it if you decide you do not like it." I thanked her and bolted for the cashier. I took out what I expected the service to be , and was totally shocked when the cashier rang it up and requested $70 MORE than I expected. My bladder was spasming, I was feeling nauseous and already in a cold sweat, I paid the ransom money and ran for the door. I cried on the way home. I put on makeup, hoping to soften the harsh reality that I just spent a LOT of money for a color that is exactly what I didn't want. It only helped a little. I look like crap and most of my clothes look totally bad with this orange hair color. I am not kidding.... The next day I receive a voicemail asking for a return call to provide feedback on my "experience" at O'Hair. I promptly returned the call and relayed the information posted in this review. I was told that I could expect a call from a manager. Three weeks have since passed. No call from a manager. At one point I would have agreed to go back and have them "fix" it, but no more. I will not go back. ------------Update 4/25/11-------------- I did receive a call from a manager after I posted this review. The call came in 20 minutes before my appointment with another salon to fix the problem. The manager was apologetic and polite. ---------------------------------------------- I will drive an hour to Hagerstown and go back to the stylist I had before I moved to Gaithersburg. While I am not a vain person, I cannot stand feeling completely disappointed each time I see my reflection. What do my friends think? They say "Oh, it's not that bad." I will never go back here. I never write reviews - this is the first one I've ever written on yelp though I've used it as a trusted resource for years. I went in yesterday for a wedding updo trial. While the stylist, Amy did a serviceable - though certainly not remarkable - job and was friendly and accommodating enough, I was charged $110 for an extremely uncomplicated wedding bun/twist "thing-y" for lack of a better term. It was ok, but nothing I haven't seen done better countless times on Bridezillas. Even when I went home my kids had to be prompted to even notice I'd had my hair done! Babysitter told me it was "cute". Not exactly the response I was hoping for for my wedding day hairstyle ESPECIALLY after shelling out $110!!! However, the real deal breaker was later that day when I took my teenage daughter to the salon for an eyebrow waxing appointment and the front desk receptionist informed me that they'd accidentally "undercharged" me when is been in earlier and that they needed to charge me another $50 because they'd shampooed my hair!! OMG. talk about adding insult to injury. $160 for "Something fancier than a standard issue bun". I wasn't at all wowed by their "massage chairs". I like their no tipping policy. They did a pretty good job on my daughter's brows ... But $160 for an ok updo? Bring my hard earned money back there? Um .... No. read more

No tipping policy was cool but the haircut was okay. I walked in (first time) they gave me a tour and everyone was really nice. The service was very good. They offered me refreshments, i.e. bottle of water. Which is a plus. But the main deal breaker is the hair cut! My hair was cut to what I wanted but the bangs were too short. And since my hair is naturally straight, she didn't even do a proper blow out. She just dried it out with the blow dryer and ran a brush through it. =? They did give me a coupon for being a first time customer ($10 off for next visit in a couple weeks time or something) but for all that great service, I'd rather have a better hair cut. Just left this salon and will never go back. I've been going there for at least 15 years and was treated to the worst service ever. Yes, I understand that my regular stylist left sick and they were trying to fit me in, but if you can't, just say so. The initial stylist, Staci, was fine, although clearly distracted with her dedicated customers. Then she handed me off to Johanna for finishing. Lousy customer service from her. She acted as if I was inconveniencing her and if you could call shampooing resentful, this would be it. I didn't even want a blow dry, but when I asked if she could do a French braid, she looked at her watch and said no. Mind you, I did not see that she had another customer nor was there anyone in the lobby area downstairs. When I left, I told the receptionist to nix the product I was going to buy and left. All this for over $200. Posting this as I sit in another salon waiting for a trim and blow out. This place is just posing as more high end than it actually is. Never again! read more

I've been seeing Laura at O'Hair for years now. She's great as is the rest of the staff. Dominic has done a wonderful job of developing a salon that is consistent in both product and service. The NO-TIPPING policy is awesome as it removes all concern of offending those you tend to trust the most! The boutique offers fun (albeit over-priced) trinkets and jewelery. Enough to give you something to look at should you arrive early for your appointment. O'Hair just opened a sister store in Frederick which is beautiful and conveniently located. The best part about this shop is all the charitable work they participate in. The stylists give a lot of their time and talent to support local projects as well as nationwide ones (Locks of Love for example). Great salon, Great people. Highly recommended. read more

I went here after hearing from a coworker that some salons give discounts if you donate your hair to organizations that make wigs. I called around and found that O'Hair offered 50% off, which is pretty substantial. I had no problems making an appointment and the receptionists whom I spoke with were all very professional and polite. On the day of my haircut, I received a tour of the facilities as it was my first time there. I think Jessica was the girl who cut my hair. She was friendly and listened to my comments and feedback. I went into the salon not knowing what kind of a cut I wanted and Jessica was helpful suggesting some things and explaining the difference between long and short layers. A week later and I am pleased with my cut! I will certainly go back if they still offer the discount of 50%! read more

Thank God, I've been searching for two years to find a decent salon in the Rockville/Bethesda/Gaithersburg area. I've gone to expensive places, trendy places, cheap places, chains. Nothing was great, and the last place completely butchered my hair with a razor. I went to Valerie, who was terrific. I asked her for something modern and something flattering, and let her cut and style the way she wanted to. She's what I've been looking for -- a creative professional who knows how to work with your hair texture, your face shape, and come up with something really great. I have found my new hair stylist/salon. First, I appreciated the quiet, storefront atmosphere when you walk in. The hair salon is upstairs so you don't feel like you are walking into a mad house like many other places. Staff was very friendly and professional. Now to the cut: Stacey did a great job. I have a lot of very thick, heavy hair which is not easy to cut. The consultation was spot-on. I was nervous and used a lot of vague terms and she made sure to ask me what I meant by them rather than guessing or going on her own interpretation. When she started cutting I could tell she knew exactly what she was doing. I probably drove her nuts with my nervous banter (I was getting A LOT of hair cut off) but she was patient through the whole process with me. ME last week: How much is a color? Them: $137. OK, sounds reasonable. I get there. I am not allowed to drink water. I have no idea if the CDC recommends that we can not drink water out of our own water bottle. Hair color done. Blows out my my frizzy hair and I look like Rosanna Rosanna Danna. Do you want me to flat iron it? Well, dah. BTW, most professionals know how to blow out frizzy hair and they don't need to flat iron. Even I can do this by myself. I go to check out: $242!!!! I think it was a classic bait and switch and on the verge of being unethical. GET SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS HOW TO BLOW OUT HAIR SO YOU ARE NOT CHARGED AN EXTRA $50 for a flat iron. Criminal to pay that much after I thought I would pay $137. I will never go back. Too bad because esthetician Tamara is amazing. read more

I compare every facial I get to this place. Very relaxing and the aromatherapy was wonderful. No tip policy is cool. Just had to deduct one star because of the constant loud click-clack of heels on the wood floors upstairs throughout the facial and massage. The massage was pretty good as well. read more

OK, yelpers, it seems like there a few great reviews and a few terrible reviews of this place. I decided to try it out despite the bad reviews because frankly, it is really close to me. However, I am very happy I did try them out. I got a haircut from Danielle, who is both very friendly and good at what she does. She spent ten minutes perfecting my bangs, which as anyone with bangs knows, is clutch to making them look flattering. I have gotten several compliments since. I came back after the initial "try out" for an all over color. They use Wella color products, and while I must say I am still a bigger fan of the feel and color selection of the Aveda line, I am really happy with the way my hair turned out color wise. Spanning over the other clients, looked like everyone was coming out looking better than they came in. Prices are reasonable for the area. Lastly, a little icing on the cake, they have massage chairs for your shampoo! read more

I was a loyal customer for 26 years - every 4 to 6 weeks. Not in good health, I had to cancel a couple of appointments at the last moment. When under the time limit, I paid the full cost for the appointment. However, during Covid I called for an abandoned was told that I could call on the day of, and see if someone was a available - not necessarily my stylist. Confused, I asked if this was a Covid thing. You cannot get any better than O'Hair. I refuse to let anyone but Dana touch my hair. I've had bad experiences in the past with haircuts (uneven lengths, not what I wanted, etc.) and O'Hair was the solution to all those problems. A haircut from Dana is only $65 (no tips!) but it's completely worth it. She listens to what you want and makes suggestions based on her experience. She then teaches you how to style your hair later at home without pushing products like some stylists at other salons. It's simply phenomenal. Also, on a side note, the massages are FANTASTIC, I've never felt so relaxed in my life and the woman who does eyebrows is the best I've ever been to. read more

My normal waxer had a family emergency in China and hasn't returned. I've tried waxing myself and I succeed really only in making a big sticky mess so I hunted around for a temporary substitute. I called on Tuesday and got an appointment with Tamara (whose name I had seen in other reviews) for the date and time I wanted. The man who made the appointment reminded me that this is a non-tipping salon (new concept to me), and was very professional on the phone. I showed up on time and was offered a drink by the two young women working the desk, who were also cleaning and organizing the front shelves. I was a bit confused about the salon because there isn't anything but product and a makeup station when you walk in. I learned later that the salon is upstairs and the spa is in the basement. I guess that's good - keeps the hairdryer noise out of the facials. Anyway, Tamara was very personable and professional, but the very best part was that she was fast! Waxing shouldn't be a deliberative process - just get that hair off! I'm am experienced waxer so I don't notice pain anymore but she was so fast I can't imagine it would've hurt anyone much and would be over quickly. She uses regular strip wax and hard cream wax based upon body part, and the temperature was comfortable. She was also fun to talk to and animated - I hope she can also do silent when applicable, like for a facial, but a professional esthetitian should have no problem with that. Overall, my trouble now is whether I continue to see her or wait for my standard waxer to return....decisions decisions...I'm thinking I like Tamara better and will return. I hope the no tipping policy means she's relatively well paid and therefore stable! read more

However when I walked in I immediately felt comfortable, was greeted by the most friendly receptionist. Loved the layout of the salon.
