I am new to purchasing flooring, O'Krent's came highly recommended so I stopped by. At the start, I'd say the service I received was decent. I decided what I wanted rather quickly and the order took around 4 weeks to come in. I was able to get the installation scheduled about a week or so later. The installers did a good job however they realized in the middle of the day that they weren't given enough material to finish the job. There was also concern brought to my attention that the flooring installed might be defective. Not what you want to hear when you make a large purchase! You expect excellent customer service and for the job to be done right the first time. Monica came out and inspected the flooring, it was determined to not be defective which was a huge relief. However it was still another 3 weeks of waiting for the material shortage to arrive so installation could be scheduled. I called and followed up a few times, they were not proactive in communicating with me at all. I asked for a % off due to the delay & the inconvenience of having my house in disarray. There are exposed nails in my floor, clothing and shoes piled up in my bathroom & living room. I was told management would not honor any % off. They would only pay for the material shortage and installation...which is to be expected, it's their mistake! I'm not sure how other flooring companies do things but this one, I'd think twice as they don't put the customer as a priority. UPDATE: the owner did call me, which I appreciate it. However, he said "if you had told me that you wanted a company that would provide a perfect installation the first time, I would've told you, we are not the company for you." I was shocked by this statement! He went on to tell me that the company will do everything to make any errors right, which I can appreciate. I know they are trying to make things right, I just still feel they are missing the point of customer service. read more

EDIT: I deducted one star because we received a bill after the job was done, that we were not expecting. After the initial shock, and a few conversations, it came down to a breakdown in communication. If you have never changed out floors before, be aware that the amount of prep work the subfloor may need is unknown until it is exposed. Due to the holiday season and a need to have the floors completed quickly, the explanation of potential additional charges slipped through the cracks. You will encounter this variable with most flooring companies, if not all. Now my family has known and done business with the O'Krents since the 1950s, so our expectations were high when we were picking flooring companies. Over the past ten years, they have never disappointed. Recently, there was some water damage done by a small drain leak to the padding. Mike gave us a reasonable estimate and within two days, Jose (I think that's the name he gave me) and his assistant were out and within 90 minutes had done an excellent job of moving out furniture, pulling the carpet back, getting rid of the old padding, installing the new, restretching the carpet and moving furniture back. Even moved some things our housekeeper had moved. No regrets here. read more

We bought porcelain tile from O'Krent for our custom built home. This tile was installed in almost every room of our house, then covered with paper to protect it during the building process. When the tile was uncovered, some of the tile was shiny and some pieces of tile were a mat finish. Our builder deep cleaned the tile twice, but it didn't help. O'Krent was contacted about the issue: a representative from O'Krent came out to our house, and then blamed the builder for damaging the tile. A spokesperson for the tile manufacturer then came out: the tile was manufactured in different areas of the country, so some of the boxes of tile were shiny and other boxes were a mat finish. We then had a stone refurbishing company to treat the tile, with no avail. O'Krent sold us shiny and mat finished tile. There is really nothing now that can be done. It looks HORRIBLE in our dream home. read more

Dear Sir Thank you for responding to my review, but I have to correct you on some of the facts. When I was in your store I picked out some tile I thought would look nice where the floor was damaged. When the associate came to my house to look at the damage he brought the sample with him. Once I saw it up against my floor I wasn't sure I liked what I had picked out and said as such. But I did not communicate that I wasn't interested. On the contrary. He did tell me that it might be hard to find wood to match my existing floor and twice I told him I didn't care if it didn't match exactly. The hardwood floor was laid on top of the original tile floor. I asked at the time if tile could be laid on tile and was told there shouldn't be a problem, so I'm not sure where you are getting that the damage to my floor is well beyond what you are capable of doing. I have had several other companies come out and was told that maybe they might have to rip up the existing tile but they wouldn't know until they remove the damaged wood floor. They were willing to give me an estimate for both laying new floor on top of the tile and what it would cost if they needed to remove some of the old tile before they laid the new. I don't know how your associate could determine just by looking that you all couldn't help me. I would think the contractor would make that determination. As far as wanting tile installed to replace the damage I was very much interested, I just wasn't sure the tile I chose when I was in the store was going to look good. read more

Had a wonderful experience working with Jason O'Krent to find the perfect carpet and for my master bedroom that was within my budget. He was patient and gave me plenty of good options. He really knew the product differences well and helped me choose a carpet with the best warranty and quality for my budget. At first, the staff brings you in with smiles and charm, but never really followed through. We went for an estimate for a house that we were about to close on. They were very accommodating when we went in on a Saturday and told us they could go to the home on the following Monday. Unfortunately, we ended up backing out of the house but quickly found a new house. We contacted O'Krent to see if they could come out for an estimate on the new house and he quickly said that day wouldn't work, but never followed up on asking if other dates could work. The sales associate was very cold after our first house fell through and never responded after that. Will never recommend O'Krent flooring to friends or family. read more

We don't recommend buying the carpet! The policy for addressing poorly installed carpet is to charge you more to try and install a replacement carpet. The carpet we purchased has a lined pattern that once installed was not straight. In addition the seam is visible in the center of the room. We are not pleased with the carpet installation. However we are pleased with the hardwood floor installation. Be aware that when they tell you there may be additional fees they are serious. We spent an additional $1000. read more

We went to the Store and were greeted with friendly and offered some sodas or bottle of water. Our sales rep Mike Ackley was very helpful, knowledgeable, offered us many choices, and made us feel comfortable in the process. Gave us a preliminary estimate pending in-home measurements. Mike came out to the house performed some exact measurements and quoted us a final price that was more accurate than our estimate which I suspected. The sample he showed us in the showroom clearly was the right choice. On Dec 9-11, 2015, Junior, his son, and another worker installed the flooring in our master bedroom, family room, and home office. The work was extremely well done and very high quality. Junior's experience and craftsmanship showed in every phase of the project. Unlike other installations, he took the right amount of time to make it right and we are EXTREMELY pleased. I want to say thank you to Leo the production manager at O'Krent's for his efforts to ensure the quarter round was painted and scheduling of a top notch crew to do the installation. I also want to thank Samantha O'Krents for her efforts to make sure all the ordering, processing of payment and patience in making the deal so smooth. I had a leak in my house and had to get all my hardwood replaced. I went with a company who I thought would do a good job, but it was a complete disaster. They told me the entire job would take around 7 days total. They constantly kept telling me they would come on certain days, but never come. Or that the floors were ordered, but they actually wouldn't. After 4 weeks (!!!), I was finally fed up and decided to find a new person and went with O'Krent. The staff are sooo nice. I walked in and told Jason O'Krent my story and he really felt for me. He walked me through their process and helped me pick out new floors from their massive showroom. He laid out a complete timeline of events and when the project would be started and what would be happening on every day. He gave him his cell phone number and was available for calls/text whenever I needed him. I can't speak highly enough of his contractors either. Frank, was amazing. He was very meticulous and made sure everything was perfect. The floors are beautiful. After install, I heard a small cracking noise under one of the floors and Frank addressed it quickly and removed the board he installed and replaced it with a new one. I can't say enough wonderful things about their character, professionalism, knowledge and care. Linda was the sales rep that helped us. She coordinated everything from start to finish. Even though she probably had/has a lot of clients at any given time, she always made us feel like we were the number one priority. She was available to answer questions and followed up to make sure things were taken care of. We had porcelain tile installed thru our entire house. (3000 sg ft). If I could rate O'Krent as a 10 I would. Our tile is perfectly straight and level. All the grout lines are perfect. Our previous ceramic tile that was installed by the builder was not level and the toilets would wobble. All are now perfectly level. Even our washer, dryer and dishwasher sit perfectly on the new floor. The base boards are mitered perfectly. The process was slightly longer than I expected but after watching our installer Carl work...I didn't mind the extra time and attention to detail. This was the best decision we have made in our home improvement. read more

The entire process to get new tile flooring in my bedrooms with O'Krent's was a horrible experience! As a consumer who works for a family owned company, I willingly chose to pay a higher price for quality customer service and accountable professionalism which are not found within "big box" companies. Unfourtantely, O'Krent's outstanding reputation was not demonstrated, from ordering material that came in looking nothing like the showroom sample to the job extending two additional days from what was initially quoted during consultation. There was absolutely no try on their part to compensate for the inconveniences! Instead, I was given only a one day option from their outsourced install team to get the job finished or allow complete strangers to be solely responsible for the largest investment I hold. In short, DO NOT bother with this company! Buy your materials from an outside source, I found mine online for almost a dollar less per square feet, and hire a third party contractor who will ultimately work and answer to you not an unnecessary middle man like O'Krent's! read more

I can't recommend O'Krent, and here's why. If you've ever done any remodeling, you know that it's plenty stressful; there are LOTS of decisions to be made, and you feel you have to get every one exactly right, because these decisions are permanent (or at least semi-permanent). So, you tend to take a lot of time with these decisions, and that makes it vital that the suplliers you deal with are accurate and efficient. When I walked into O'Krent Flooring, I had the idea that they were one of the top flooring merchants in the area; I even went to high school with one of the owners. I made it clear to the salesperson I dealt with that I had a deadline, and to her credit, she did assist me with making my decision concerning which tile to choose for my kitchen floor. She also assured me that the tile would be delivered in four days. Based on her statements, I went ahead and ordered the tile (after a delay because it was on the weekend and she apparently couldn't put in the order until Monday). Also, annoyingly, I had to revisit the store in order to sign an invoice and pay, which seems antiquated in this day and age, and I was also informed at that time that the tile would take not four, but seven days to arrive, which was still within our deadline. At any rate, everything was fine until four days later, when I recieved a call from the store informing me that the tile would not be arriving until two and a half weeks after I placed the order, which was not within our deadline and would have caused major disruption because we had to actually be living in the place by then. Although I was upset at this news, I guess I would have been mollified had the salesperson should the slightest bit of remorse, or offered to do anything to alleviate the situation, or anything other than just say "sorry." Well, I'M sorry, but in my book, this is not customer service. The store failed in its essential mission, which is to Get Tile To The Customer. On top of that, they exhibited a lack of concern about their failure, and worse, wasted a week of my time. If you have other options in flooring merchants, choose someone other than O'Krent. read more

Sam O'Krent and his staff went "over the top" with a complicated warranty claim we had. Monica Mills and Laura Rueter were outstanding in their customer service. They both kept in touch with us by phone and email every step of the way to keep us informed and to make that our special requests were fulfilled. Sam O'Krent personally called us to assure that he was on top of the situation. OKrent's is such a respected business in the trade that he was able to intervene with flooring companies to bring this claim to a successful (and in my words,"triumphant") conclusion. We had a successful experience with them previously and when it was time to remodel, we did not even consider another company. We are ever thankful! read more

Mr. O'Krent, That is totally false. It was the BUILDER who rushed the job. He didn't want to have to pay for increased interest rates and rushed it to completion. We had it locked it at a specific rate. We were willing to wait for as long as it took. I begged the builder to not rush it. But he did. YOUR BUSINESS SHOULD HAVE REFUSED TO INSTALL LAMINATE ON A DAMP SLAB. I did not get it all repaired without a fight. You would not take responsibility for it. At the time the builder blamed you. You blamed the builder. It was ridiculous, like little boys trying to handle it. You DID send out young guys that were inexperienced and that didn't speak ENGLIGH. And, I demanded that you come look at the mess they made of my house and you refused!! You sent some double-talking salesperson. You have pretty bad memory. I never owned this problem. Don't shove it off on me. I was in no rush to close on the house because of this and move in. Shame on you. Anyone reading this should be apalled that you are saying in your reply that we were not your customer. Oh, we were a "member". That's hideous. We went to your showroom to pick out the flooring and talked to your sales reps!!! So, you disown customers that give you a bad review. I see. Readers beware if you build a house and the flooring is rolled into the price of the house. If O'Krent installs your flooring this man does not value you as a customer. I have to laugh at your desperation. We were the customer. You to this day want to blame us. It really says a lot about your insecurities when you have to go on YELP and belittle your customers. You would have been way better off telling me you were really sorry for the mistakes you made and the frustration you caused us. Worst experience we have ever had. So excited about getting our stair case redone in our newly purchased home. A gorgeous curved staircase. At first things were great, salesman recommended we go with a patterned stair carpet and we liked the one he chose. Waited a month for it to come in and it was pricey of course. Installers showed up to install, by 11 am they were ready to lay the carpeting...I left for a business meeting leaving a friend and business associate who was a witness to all the conversations with the installers in charge to stay with them. Came back at 3:30 pm and was told by all that they could not install it and that it was the fault of the stairs. They wanted to shim the toe nose and box the stairs instead of the upholstered look they had we contracted for. Finally it was decided by them they would "shim" a little the next day. Installer bought a jig saw and cut the second step too short. They stopped again and recommended we go back to the store and pick wood and left with the carpet. Discovered at the unpleasant visit I had at the store that they couldn't do a flush smooth toe nose. Jason O'Krent also stated that his installers didn't say what I told him they said. Really? So I guess I'm the untruthful one even tho' there was a witness. Finally convinced me they could make it right and agreed to come back one more time on Saturday morning at 8 am to finally get the job done. Of course I had already lost 2 days of work with installers telling me they couldn't do it. My husband and I think they just didn't want to work so hard to match the difficult pattern. Got a call at 9:45 am (almost 2 hours late) on Saturday after blocking off another day stating the installer came but the gate code would not work. We have a guard and they had 5 different employees out here before. There is NO gate code. Where's the communication in their organization and dispatch. We fired them and agreed to keep the carpet and they keep the 50% deposit. Unfortunately it was later discovered that the end to mid section of one of the rolls of carpet was damaged according to the new installer by the machine that rolls the carpet. But Mr. O'Krent himself told me that we damaged the carpet because it was in our garage and a tire ran over it. The stored carpet was no where near a tire...but I guess we are accused once again of not telling the truth. Very distraught over this whole ordeal and pray no one else ever has to suffer this type of none customer service. We had heard great things about O'Krent and if it had not happened to us we never would have believed this fiasco. read more

Mr. O'Krent, as a former executive of several large OEM manufactures, I personally intervened when quality issues or customer complaints arose. I initiated the recovery process via telephone to resolve the issue cited in the complaints. I personally traveled to production facilities to investigate the quality issues at the production/assembly line with the actual "users" of the products we delivered (Harley-Davidson, John Deere, Case-New Holland, etc.) and stayed on them until the matters were satisfactorily resolved to the customer's satisfaction. Relationships with customers are delicate and "priceless" to quote a well-known marketing campaign. The fact that the sales representatives, estimators and management have taken no action to contact us directly after spending hours at your store to seek a bid for our business is disappointing. Additionally, we were not made aware that the representative to whom we gave our floor plan and product selections was no longer employed until we followed up after two weeks with no word is disconcerting. No one responded to our status inquiries. Finally, the impression I have by your "save face" response that WE need to contact you, the owner of the company, to discuss this matter implies that you are not sincerely invested in repairing this matter. If your employees charged with the responsibility and accountability for your business and your reputation are not concerned about our dissatisfaction, I do not feel you are sincere in your written response on a website.
