My expectations of this establishment were a bit different than what I got, but I still left thoroughly satisfied. I thought this was more of a sit-down restaurant because I went to an Irish pub by the same name in Seattle that certainly felt like a traditional table service restaurant. This is a bar, no doubt about it. With that said, they have very fair prices on their food and the food was actually really really scrumptious. The drinks were a little strong for my liking, but I'd bet lots of people would love that lol! Recently visited O'Malley's with a group of friends and had a great time. Only thing that threw us off was that their menu in person was different than the menu that we had found online, so we had to rework the orders we already had in our head. :p Loved that they pour heavy here, too. True dive bar style! They also had a good selection of beers on tap. For food we tried the reuben fritters and split a crispy chicken sandwich as well. The reuben fritters were okay, but I think they might've been left in the fryer for juuuust a little too long. The chicken sandwich was pretty good, but it was a weekly (or nightly?) special, so not sure if they normally have that on the menu. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and my group might have been the rowdiest (whooops) but everyone had a great time with no complaints! We needed a late lunch before heading back to our side of the water and we spotted O'Malley's as we were driving back to 16 South. Super welcoming guy behind the bar. We felt like we were in our neighborhood bar, albeit in a neighborhood over an hour away from our house. Good stuff. We ordered two beers, some Reuben Balls (deep fried Reuben sandwiches sans sauerkraut), a burger with tots and corned beef hash. All tasty and exactly what we needed to fuel up for the trip home. As a dive bar, 5 stars. Went for breakfast on a Sunday- free pool. The corned beef hash was delicious. It's not a "hash" where it's all fried together- it's served like a "traditional" breakfast. Breakfast burrito was decent. Added green onion and a side of salsa. Heard great things about the shepherds pie. Service was great. Not too busy of a morning- severs chatted with us and the regulars evenly. It's definitely a dive bar; medium clean, some drunk patrons- but it's a good time if you have your expectations correct. Lots of rock on the juke box and live music either the 4th or last Sunday of the month. read more

I visited here once months ago and I'm still confused and wonder if I did something wrong. As in, does their entire service model differ from every other bar on the planet? I walked in about 7pm on a weeknight. There was one bartender with his back to the customers watching TV. So I grabbed an empty table, of which there were many to choose from as it was not busy. Any place else, you'd expect a server to come by and either take your order or let you know it's order-at-the-bar if that's the way they do it. Not only did nobody ever come talk to me, I didn't see a server other then the TV watching bartender for the entire 15 minutes or so that I sat there waiting. So if I did it wrong, like if you're supposed to walk up to a hidden window in the alley and give them the secret knock to get someone to take your order, I'd just like to know about it. read more

O'Malley's on 6th Ave. is one of my favorite places. The service is great and the bar staff is friendly and professional. I have been there for a mid-day lunch, an average weekend, and when the place has been packed and jumping. The crew does everything they can to accommodate everyone's needs. The food and drinks are great, although I wish they would add a selection or two of Irish Ales (Smithwick's comes to mind) to go with their obligatory Guiness and multiple IPAs. The liquor bar is fully stocked with all your favorites and the bartenders "pour with pleasure." The Rueben is by far my favorite food selection but the menu is varied from Irish fare like bangers and mash and shepard's pie to burgers, chicken, nachos, and the rest and it's all good. As a musician who has played from the O'Malley's stage for some years, I am grateful that they have remained loyal to live music and were among the first to bring it back after the statewide ban was lifted. They rotate bands to give the folks a good variety of musical genres so it's best to check their website and Facebook to see who's playing and plan accordingly. They are also great social neighbors. Their St. Paddy's Day celebrations are legendary and they are also active participants in the Tacoma Art on the Avenue weekend celebrations every summer. New on their website (https://omalleysirishpubwa.com/#) is the capability to book a private party in advance. This is great if you are planning to bring a large group to celebrate a birthday, promotion, or other special event. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie to go. And when it came it was packed in a cup. I called the restaurant, because of course that had to be some mistake. Well, when I spoke to the women at the restaurant, she gave an explanation that it was because the gravy leaks out of the regular containers. Then I commented on the size of the container being a little over 8 ounces and was it a regular serving for the price? She said is the same size you're served when dining in. Wow! I couldn't believe it. First the packaging, then the serving size for the price. Lastly, it was just dry burger meat with some frozen veggies and mashed potatoes. I was not impressed and they offered no way for the customer to be satisfied after taking their money and serving them crap in a cup. See for yourself. Even the pics show that there is no way the gravy would be pouring out of any container. Aesthetics are everything. This looks like something you serve to your pet if it's been bad. As you can see, it is NOT brimming in scrumptious gravy. Since moving to Tacoma from Snohomish county and loving Shawn O'Donnells and looking for a restaurant at least similar to enjoy, we chose this one. And I am sorely disappointed in the experience. S.O. has Shepherd's Pie on the menu that I get all the time and this served from here is terrible in comparison. S.O. has never delivered any entree in a soup container, never this. Stellar service, but but the restaurant is lacking the wow factor that garners over 3 stars. When I say stellar service I mean the service here is a hit! Waitresses are "always" on time and attentive wherever you sit at in the restaurant and thats saying something! Most bars seem to have a zone-of-consistency and sitting outside that zone may mean that you'll have to wait an entity for your cheese sticks. However, at O'malley's the service comes in waves; first by your server, then by an auxiliary host serving up things like flowers and jello-shots, and lastly by the busboy who cleans your table before your eyes like your last name was Gates or Bezos. Then there was the food which was indifferent to say the least. The star of the show here is their wings which to their credit they offer a lot of different sauce options. I got the hot which was enough for me (build like a NFL Safety) and my friend (built like a Jonas Brother) to share and be satisfied. Additionally, we ordered the ham and cheese sliders (we thought they'd be reminiscent of middle school witch consisted of ham and cheese sandwiches cooked grilled cheese style and paired with tomato soup). Sad to say these ham and cheese sliders were just microwaved hame and cheese sandwiches of hawaiian rolls paired with dijon mustard squirted on the plate. I'll come back due to the lack of options in the area, but it will be for the service and the drinks. There are way better options for food close by. I've been debating whether or not to write this review, but given that 3 months after my horrific experience that I'm still apoplectic with rage, I believe you deserve every scathing comment I have to give. First off, I used to really like O'Malley's; it was my go to place. Not anymore. From the start, a friend and I went in and October, sat down and in over 40 minutes received ZERO service. Before you look for excuses for yourself, it was not a Friday or Saturday night and the place wasn't crazy busy. After nearly an hour of not receiving service my friend and I moved to another table where hopefully someone would notice our existence. The key side note to know here is that earlier in the year I fell and broke nearly half the bones on the right side of my body. A year later I still feel immense pain and still take several medications to help with the healing process. One of those medications I take is in a powdered form that I mix in with regular bottle of water. After a hour of waiting, I was in pain and my joints were tightening so I took my medicated bottle out of my purse and took a few sips to try to relieve the pain (as well as the face that in over an hour we still hadn't even received a glass of fucking water). Immediately, your waitress grabbed that bottle from my hand stating that "no outside food or drink was allowed in." That's hilarious considering all the flasks in the hands of other customers. Nevertheless, I told that waitress explicitly that it was not just water, but my medication (which is VERY expensive by the way). She refused to listen. I begged her to give it back and let me put in our car. She refused. I then said, fine, give it back and we'll take out business some place else. Still, she refused. Now, she swore that she'd make sure I got it on my way out, but of of course that was bullshit. Another employee had already tossed it. My insurance usually covers that medication, but because it was far too soon for them to recover a refill I had to pay for a refill, because your heartless discriminative waitress threw it out; which cost me $1208.25 OUT OF POCKET. So, what I take away from this is that O'Malley's is run by heartless thieves who gladly discriminate against anyone with a medical condition that needs to take medication. I have every right to sue your business for what it has done, but I'm not going to do that. Court fees and backed up courts aren't worth it; but I will make sure that everyone in Tacoma knows what kind of people you really are: bigoted, discriminative, heartless, and just downright assholes. Oh! And I forgot to mention that they dared to infringe upon my Fourth Amendment rights by demanding to search my purse for more of my water and medication. For those unfamiliar with our Constitution, the Fourth Amendment protects against unlawful search and seizure. So how many crimes did O'Malley's commit in just one night? read more

We had a hunkering for Irish style dining, did a search, and were pleasantly surprised by this little gem on 6th Ave. The service (Madison) was down to earth and the bartender was super kind. Stopped over for lunch. Nothing not to like. Bartender was helpful about beer selection even though beer was not his thing. Generous with samples which is always a good sign. Plenty of on tap selections to choose from. Ordered fish and chips which was served fast and hot. Not the best of all time fish and chips but good (I am a tough critic when it comes to this though). I love this bar! The staff is super friendly and the food is ridiculously good! My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday late in the afternoon to check the place out. It was about half full with most of the people gathered around the bar with a few stragglers thrown about the rest of the bar and tables. We ordered a couple of shots and then moved to a booth to get some food. I heard that their fish n chips was good so we decided to order that. I was blown away at how fresh the fish was! My wife doesn't like fish but she even thought these were good (with some help from a little ketchup for her). It was the perfect ratio of batter and fish per strip and the fries were good as well. Our waitress (Pebbles) was a sweetheart as well and she gave us great service! She kept our drinks full and was extremely personable and helpful. All in all this was a great place to visit and we will return next time we are in Tacoma! read more

Great dive bar if you're looking for a chill place. The bar is actually really big. They don't play their music too loud so you're no screaming across the table to talk to your friends and they have tvs everywhere throughout the bar for those that want to catch up on their games. They've also got some arcade games and pool tables. Service was great, the bartender would check on us to make sure everything was okay and if we wanted more drinks. The bar does serve food, but I haven't tried any of their food so this review is based solely on the environment/ atmosphere/ bar service. read more

The crowd is great, the service is very good, their bartenders are great and make strong drinks, and they have a lot of live bands. Their food used to be good (though I'm judging them by their hamburgers), but now it's like someone who doesn't know how to make a hamburger patty. It's one of those small but tall burgers that are almost sphere-shaped that don't fit the bun (as in, it's much smaller than the bun) that's overcooked because the middle of it is too thick (there's no way to properly cook a burger that's shaped that way), and it has no flavor. I couldn't even finish it. Considering that they used to make some of the best burgers in town, this is quite disappointing. Their salads are good, but that's not saying much. My other complaint is that the urinal stones and fragrance spray in the bathrooms stink up the entire bar, not very appetizing. At least, that's what the bar smells like anyway. If it's from something else, I don't know what it is. I didn't actually go into the bathroom to find out. Considering how strong the smell is, if I was to actually have to use their bathrooms, I'd reek of the fragrance afterwards; I'd rather urinate in an alley than use their bathroom. read more

A classic little dive bar that's fairly clean and well-organized...for a dive. You walk in and the first thing that hits you is the overwhelming smell of urinal cakes. Are they buying candles scented with that particular fragrance? They do actually leave the men's room door open all the time, but it's hard to imagine the three big rooms in this place filling up with the aroma like that unless they're buying Puck-scented jar candles from Yankee Candle or something. Given that a lot of the tables in here are wobbly and unadjustable, maybe they've been using the pucks to prop them up. The tap list is pretty solid, and the bottle list for spirits looked pretty solid too. One of us ordered a cocktail and was wondering whether they heard her right, seemed to be missing an ingredient. Her husband went back up and they happily splashed it at no charge. The beers seemed to pour from clean lines. Another one of us is a bit of a pool shark, and said the tables were in really good shape. The happy hour specials included free pool and good drink prices. Overall, the best thing about this place is the people watching. Lots of different kinds of people, and everyone seemed to be there to enjoy themselves--people were friendly and talking to each other. There was a good social vibe in the air, very tough to find in many of the better-known bars in Seattle. It's a little far away for me to visit just to have a beer, but a decent place to meet friends for a pint in Tacoma. read more

I dropped in while barhopping one night with my friends and they were just munching on some fries and beer. I wasn't really feeling like eating that night so I just sat there for company. From what I saw, it was alright... not too fancy, chill, and everyone doing their own thing. I came from the other more crowded bars earlier and compared to those place, it's quiet. Not a bunch of people boggling in through the door or bumping into each other. More of them minding their own business. Went in for brunch at Dirty Oscar's (a block away) but had a 25 min wait. The waitress recommended we pop into O'Malley's while we waited. So glad we did! Awesome service, delicious bloody Mary's, mimosas, and fries! We also played a couple games of pool. Oscar's called us about 50 mins later but we weren't too upset about the wait because we were loving O'Malleys. We will be making this a tradition any time we wait for Oscars. read more
