I was born on St. Patrick's Day, so I've always had a thing for Irish pubs. Everywhere I live, I end up searching for the best local Irish pub. About 8 years ago I lived right on Main Street in downtown Seal Beach, next to Armand's restaurant, Bistro St. Germain, and O'Malley's quickly became my spot. It was easily my favorite Irish pub in Seal Beach and honestly one of the best in the surrounding cities/towns too. For me it's ALL about the food. An Irish pub has to have some legit Irish fare, and O'Malley's definitely does, but what makes this place even better is that their regular menu is just as good. The fish & chips is hands down my favorite thing on the menu. The piece of fish is INSANELY huge. We're really picky about fish & chips, especially the batter, and theirs is exactly how we like it -- super crunchy and crispy on the outside, piping hot when it comes out, and the fish inside is still nice and flaky. And the fries... I don't know what they're doing to them, but their regular fries are ridiculously crunchy and crispy. Seriously some of the best fries I've probably had anywhere. The sweet potato fries are on point too. The potato skins are another must. Probably some of the best I've had anywhere and they are LOADED. Bacon, cheese, green onions, sour cream... they definitely aren't giving you one of those sad potato skins with three pieces of bacon sprinkled on top. We brought the kids this time and they loved our fish & chips so much that we ended up having to order another order. Then we realized they actually have Jr. Fish & Chips on the kids menu, which was even more perfect. Their kids menu in general is amazing -- grilled cheese, cheeseburger, chicken tenders, hot dog, quesadilla, fish & chips, shepherd's pie, beef stew... way better than the usual couple of boring kids options. Emma and Dillon were taking care of us and were both super friendly and attentive. Even when the place was packed and there were only a couple people running around serving everyone, they were still checking on us and taking great care of the table. Hopefully I got Dillon's spelling right! It's also surprisingly perfect with kids. The ambience is exactly what we need as parents -- lively enough that the noise and hyperness from our kids just blends into the pub atmosphere , but NOT so loud that you can't actually sit there and have a normal conversation. Just really good vibes. I'm also a HUGE supporter of local, homegrown restaurants, so whenever I find a place I really like, I try to promote them however I can. On our way out, I saw this cute older Asian couple standing outside studying the menu HARD. They reminded me so much of my parents -- analyzing the prices, looking at everything on the menu, probably calculating the cost-to-dish-value ratio and comparing it to every other restaurant on the block to make sure they were getting their money's worth. They looked like they were about to walk away. I had a feeling they were Korean, so as we were walking out I said out loud, "AHHH BAEBULLEO!" (아 배불러! -- I'm so full!) and then asked my daughter in Korean if she loved the fish & chips. Sure enough, that got their attention. I told them the fish & chips was SO good and used my hands to show them how ridiculously huge the piece of fish was. They immediately seemed happy to hear it and started asking about it. We walked around Main Street for a little while and eventually passed O'Malley's again and lo and behold... THEY WENT INSIDE TO EAT. That seriously made me happy. I love seeing good local restaurants survive and do well, so if I can convince even one more table to give a place I love a shot, mission accomplished. We live down in Laguna now, so unfortunately we don't get up to Seal Beach nearly as often anymore, but O'Malley's is still one of those places we'll make the drive back to for a special occasion. Six years later and it's still one of the places I genuinely miss from living on Main Street. Huge crispy fish & chips, insanely good fries, loaded potato skins, legit Irish food, great staff, great atmosphere, super kid friendly, and a local place I'm always happy to send more business to. I had some time to kill on a Sunday morning and decided to stop in for brunch after looking their menu up online. I'm a sucker for a good benedict, so I ordered their Irish Benedict, which is made with corned beef. This thing was loaded! It was so much food that I took about half home as leftovers. The corned beef was tender and juicy and went well with the hollandaise. I like a little more hollandaise on my benedicts, but that's personal preference. I had a tea with my meal, which was ok. I hoped that an Irish establishment would be better at handling tea than American places are, but I also understand it's a bar and most people aren't coming here to order a hot tea. There was a soccer game on when I arrived and the place was packed, but it cleared out pretty quickly once the game ended. This is a lively pub, not somewhere to come if you're looking for a quiet ambiance. That's not a bad thing, but I've noticed a few people mentioning it with surprise in other reviews so I'm pointing it out to help other people make choices in line with the type of dining experience they want to have. I personally didn't find the noise of the sports or sports fans overwhelming, and felt it added to the vibe of the place. I had one small issue while I was there and the manager was quick to make it right. I really appreciated their responsiveness and eagerness to make sure their customers are well taken care of. I visited this establishment and tried their Corned Beef Sandwich. I asked that they do the sandwich without some sort of onion spread and they honoured that request. The sandwich was excellent. In fact the sandwich hit the spot. Perfectly. If I was to grade strictly on the sandwich alone this establishment would get a perfect score. Alas that is not the case. Washroom is satisfactory, clean and paper towels were available... good. There was a band that played part of the time... just a bunch of loud noise in my opinion. Even when the band was not playing the ambient noise level was very high. I am dinging this establishment one point due to the noise level. I have a general complaint about the personal appearance of one or more of the guys who work at this establishment. One or more of the men who worked at this establishment wore his shirt untucked. I consider that to be highly unprofessional and inappropriate. I am dinging this establishment one point for allowing guys to wear their shirts untucked as this is something I am OCD about. If I was to assign a letter grade as is done in school, this establishment would be in there solid with a "C". read more

Second time coming here for a Chelsea match with my buddy, who's part of the OC Blues fan club--this is clearly the spot for Chelsea games. Fun group of guys, good energy, and a true match-day vibe. This time I ordered food, expecting basic bar fare, but was pleasantly surprised. The ABC burger (avocado, bacon, cheddar) was freshly made and legit tasty. I went with the side salad instead of fries--solid choice and better than expected. Good portion size, too. Service was great and impressively quick for a packed noon kickoff. Chelsea won 4-0, which never hurts, and I washed it down with a cold beer--mission accomplished. Typical pub atmosphere with a cool little outdoor patio if you need some air. One heads-up: parking is strictly enforced with a two-hour limit, but honestly that lined up perfectly with the match length. Would absolutely come back--especially on match day. read more

I had a great experience at O'Malley's, and a big part of that was Auggie. From the moment we walked in, he was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. He knew the menu well, gave solid drink recommendations, and kept the vibes fun without being overbearing. Even when the bar got busy, Auggie stayed on top of everything--drinks came out fast, and he always checked in to make sure we were good. You can tell he really cares about providing great service and representing the bar well. If you're at O'Malley's, definitely hope Auggie's working. We came here on a whim, seeing the big sign on the street. Best decision we made for a Saturday Fun Day. My fiancé loves Irish food and Irish whiskey, this place serves both. We got Irish sausage rolls and shepherds pie both delicious, the sausage rolls had crispy breading on a lean beef, savory and comforting at once. The shepherds pie was the best we have had, the service was incredible. The gentleman at the bar was kind and providing recommendations to my fiancé that is always on the fence. Everything was absolutely delicious, but the calamari were especially outstanding--perfectly crispy and cooked just right. We have been to O' Malley's on Main before. Located on in Main Street in Seal Beach ) the quaint street of local shops and restaurants across the street from the pier), this place is pretty popular. Each time we've come it has been packed. This is an Irish pub complete with beamed ceiling, wood arches and a fireplace. There's are banquettes upholstered in the perfect fabric and banners advertising beers strung from the ceiling. Parts are a little worse for wear, but that hasn't affected it's charm. There is a bit of a surprise that you can't see when you walk in--a charming patio complete with a fireplace and wishing well covered with vines. Unfortunately, they weren't seating on the patio. Our server was very sweet and attentive even though she was clearly very busy. The menu is what you'd expect in an Irish pub, traditional Irish food--shepherds pie, boxty, fish and chips, and corned beef and cabbage. Of course there are wings and burgers, too Between the four of us, we had the salmon boxty, fish and chips, shepherds pie, and a burger. Everything was good, although the burger came out cold. Picked the wrong day to visit here as the US national soccer team was live on TV so the place was packed and we had to settle for a rickety table on the patio. Three of us came to try the Haddock fish and chips. Service was a little slow but understandably so. We ordered onion rings as a starter which was a super portion for the price. I spent a Friday evening walking around Seal Beach with my in-laws. After our walk, my mother-in-law suggested we stop by O'Malley's for dinner. She loves ordering the fish and chips, but always substitutes the regular fries for sweet potato fries. I opted for the corned beef and cabbage, which came with a creamy white gravy that complemented both the cabbage and meat perfectly. Had been coming to this place for years, but haven't for the past few and was stunned yesterday when I brought three friends and found how different it is. This is not so much about the food, but the overall appearance and cleanliness. You could tell that our table had not been resurfaced in... oh gosh, years, as whatever they are using on this table to clean it, when it happens to get cleaned, has destroyed the surface for sure. Then when I went to pick up my salt shaker, it was dirty from the inside out that really shocked me. So didn't use salt. Took the time to clean them all myself because it was so gross picking up those container containers. The floors, looked filthy, but maybe they were. It's just maybe the type of grout they use? But lots of cracked grout. And you could tell that they were cleaned well to begin with as there's usually some sort of a product you can put on tile that will protect it. Tile floors need maintenance like any other type of floor. Went into the bathroom and what a disaster. It's like no one takes care of this place at all. They just open it and get to work. Maybe wipe down the table if they think of it. So I had to clean our table and thank goodness, I brought something with me to clean everything with. Next time, if ever, I'll have to bring my own Clorox wipes to clean the ketchup, Cholula sauce, and other table items. Good gravy. Yes, it was quite a disappointment to see how downhill it's gone as far as the overall upkeep.. It's just did not appear nor feel any too clean. If it's clean, it certainly isn't kept well. Something's not right. From the menu, I noticed the fish and chips had a fish other than halibut, and I was extremely disappointed. I know these are tough times, but some things are worth keeping if they're good. Food was OK. But, maybe the last time I was here was about 10 years ago? And everything was perfection. We used to go a lot more often, but a lot of things have happened so we haven't been able to come back in a while. So again, this is 80% about the "ambience" so to speak. It could be so beautiful if they took the time to do a little upgrade in the bathroom and not have broken appliances, on the wall and no soap in one of the dispensers it's just not OK. I can't help it go back to the floors that looked really dirty and cracked, and tables where the surface is crazy and you can tell that waitresses don't come in in the morning to clean everything before they start their service. There were lots of crumbs and salt underneath the container that had held the salt and pepper and condiments. When I was waitressed, we had to clean every single counter surface, even if it had been cleaned the night before. We had to pull out every single salt and pepper shaker, or whatever was on the table and clean it. And it's so easy now because you have Clorox wipes and you can use gloves, but we used to have to use towels that were soaked in bleach before putting them in a soapy, hot water bath as we needed the cleanest towels we could get to take care of that. There's much better things now to use that are not so potent as bleach. Like I say, very disappointing. By the way, my decaf coffee was never hot, not one time that I was there. I didn't say anything, but the waitress looked as she was pouring and saw there was no steam coming out of it. Especially since the regular coffee was always steaming, but it came to the table, which was at least three or four times. I was lucky to get a refill twice. I couldn't believe that she didn't notice nor even think about the customer first. I know she has a lot to do, but that just shows poor training. I don't blame her, however, some people do figure this out on their own. Some need to be taught. I needed that as I had no idea when I first started waitressing. I was really into cleaning, because I certainly am not a person who would want to sit at a dirty table and that's what I felt like I was doing yesterday. Unkept environment turns me off. And knowing that the people that owned this place own two other places, I certainly won't not be going to their other establishments, if this is what it's like. Since I've always enjoyed this place and have recommended over the years now I know why my friends were upset and didn't want to go for St. Patrick's Day. We went elsewhere. They didn't say anything to me because I had raved about it so much that they had been there and they decided on another place on Main Street. Now I understand. All the best to the establishment, I sure hope that they're able to do a little better on upkeep and cleanliness as it was always so beautiful in the past. By the way, the outdoor space used to look a little cuter too now it looks just like a faded umbrella out there and it didn't look very inviting like it used to. We used to sit outside at times too, but it looked a whole lot less appealing than it used to.‍ read more

It was our first time at O'Malleys and our first time trying Irish style breakfast. It came with eggs, baked beans, rasher bacon, pork pudding, sausages, tomato slices, and your choice of bread (we chose English muffins). The food was delicious. I was glad the waitress didn't say what goes into pork pudding because I probably would not have ordered it, and just stuck to my regular French Toast, but I'd say the light one tasted more like Thanksgiving stuffing. The darker one tasted like it had cloves in it. It was described to me as pork pudding starts off like a pudding and then we deepfry it into sausage patties. I was sold. And thankful afterward. The ambiance is that of a typical Irish pub. The waitress was kind and the food was superb. I couldn't eat it all because I was so full. Very full of proteins. 9/19/25 LITERALLY THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD WITH DANIELLE THE SERVER I took a friend here tonight. He is from Ireland. He drove and hour and a half and I drove a half hour from Capistrano beach to meet me here and experience an Irish bar and I choose this one for us to meet. He got us beers from the bar and a table. By the time I got there I was starving and waited for a menu. Danielle our server or lack thereof, never greeted us. Never brought us a menu or checked on us. Not once did she ask if we needed anything she would not even look at us, and she had to purposefully do so cause we were literally in her section. So finally I got us trying to be proactive and ask for a menu. When I tell you the energy from the girl, her face. Her whole demeanor. You would have thought I insulted her mother. I tried not to take it personal and yet it was feeling pretty personal. Finally after the 8th time she came around, no joke I was counting at this point, without even asking if we needed anything {and there is no way she didn't know I wanted food I literally asked her for the menu} I just told my friend {who sat there with an empty drink the whole time cause again, we never got service for some strange reason} let's go. The mood was ruined and I was so embarrassed. He asked why I chose this place. I said I don't know I thought it would be good, BOY WAS I WRONG. On top of that as we sat there desperately trying to get Danielle to help us, which never happened, I watch a table who was getting service from her call her back. The burger she brought them was so bloody and uncooked in the middle, I watched the lady handed it back and felt so disgusted. That was the nail in the coffin. Some of the worst, rudest customer service I've ever experienced from a server and to only get food that will give me major food poisoning.
