I've been to this place three times now, and for St. Patrick's Day I decided this was a spot. I was gonna enjoy my day at. It was a hot one, but they had the AC running inside and that made drinking the green beer so enjoyable. The bartenders Evan and Britney were very nice and looked after me and everyone else I came up to the bar for beers, always asking if they wanted their beer green. Their food selection on that day was tremendously great. I had the corned beef on wheat bread and it was toast, toasted wheat bread to boot. With a cheese, and everything else that came with it, I was happily pleased with it all. Especially the carrot that tasted like pickled because it was laying on one. I will never forget that taste that I enjoyed so much on that day. The prices for beer are actually impressively cheap. I really have no complaints on this place and I think that what they do to get people's names on the wall for drinking 70 different beers from all around the world is really cool. I might have to try it one day. Thanks to all the people at Murphy's for putting on a great St. Patrick's Day for this fan. Oh, and by the way, they make such good popcorn. I used to have it at a different bar as a kid and then brought me back to those days. read more

Came by Murphys on St. Patrick's day and it was a really cool spot. After going up the flight of stairs you reach a nicely air conditioned bar with great customer service. The beer was iced cold and we had some freshly made popcorn. The bartender was really nice and welcoming. Overall the vibes were cool. read more

I had never been here before but my friend suggested we meet here as our first stop for our bar hopping day. It wasn't very busy as we got there about 12:30pm (we love us some day drinking ;) The patio seating is nice with a cool view of 2nd street. We shared some nachos that were tasty. This is my local go to spot since i live on the SAME street. I have a passport and everything. Unfortunately walking in on 8/10/26 i was met with nothing but hostility by the bartender. He had a beard and a hat. If i could've been there longer to know his name i would list it. Long story short he asked for our ID as we were told we could only order from draft ( not expecting to only have those options seeing as we were trying to finish our passport) we were discussing amongst ourselves if we were going to get anything and the bartender completely ignored us talking and asked repeatedly for our IDs. I explained i was pulling it out and he could understand we were talking about it. He then proceeded to throw one of our Ids that we handed him and told us to get out. The level of aggression and disrespect is unacceptable. If you ever see a big guy behind the bar with a beard just turn around and leave. read more

Not accessible by any means at all. Hard to get too hard to get around. Again not accessible for anyone with any type of disability at all. So no wheelchair access. If you walk with a cane or a crutch it's a huge fall hazard. If you can't go up and down stairs don't even bother it's up stairs with no alternate access available. You can ONLY order your food and drinks at the bar. If you're lucky enough to find a table you still have to go to the bar to order. That's a feet in itself to even get near the bar when it's crowded. Now the good. Decent food. GREAT prices and a good selection of drinks. Now for the staff. Kinda rude and don't really care unless you're tipping big. read more

Just beer and wine no whiskey so it loses a star for that. No Harp on draft or Smithwicks the only Irish beer was Guinness. But they do have cans or bottles of O'Hara's Stout and Wexford plus a ton of other cans of beers from all over the place. Food is sandwiches and salads mostly. Nothing too exciting but satisfying nonetheless. Service was great and the patio overlooking Second St from the second floor is nice for late afternoon drinking. read more

I love Murphy's!! It's a great place to sit out in the balcony and watch people along 2nd Street or inside watching a game. To me it's a hidden gem, their sandwiches are piled with meats and cheese, plus it comes with a side salad, chips and salsa, or potato chips. It's a real bargain. My go to is the shore shuffle minus the center bread, squaw bread double toasted provolone with a side salad. The ranch dressing is so yummy. They have pickled eggs that I think beat Joe Jost's. I ask for no black pepper (my preference) Their pop corn is irresistible, once an order passes you you'll understand. Beer is cold and plenty of choices and the locals are cool, eh me being one of them. Oh it's dog friendly to boot!! read more

I came here with my friends from out of town, all above the age of 21 with no fake ID's. Somehow all our ID's didn't pass the "blue light test" and when we asked them to recheck it they said it still didn't pass. When we tried to let them know we came from out of town and our ID's weren't fake, the bartender and multiple customers and staff yelled at us to leave the establishment. Unfortunately we weren't able to enjoy a drink at this pub, but neighboring bars were more than welcoming to us! I recommend checking out the bars nearby before coming here! read more

Murphy's is so cute! I had always walked past this place, but since it's kind of hidden, never went in. I am glad to have tried it and will be back. The interior is cute & classic bar, but my favorite part was the wall of beer tours! When you go there you can get a punch card with all the beers they offer, and if you finish it, you get to put a namecard on the wall. Reading all the name cards and the funny quotes people chose for them was really fun. I also loved that they have a balcony option that looks out over second street. It was nice and quieter than the other bars on second street, but still lively. Will definitely come back. read more

my four friends and i came from vegas and are staying at long beach. we are all over the age of 21 and we tried to get some drinks but they claimed our ids didn't pass the "blue light test" and when we confronted them telling them our ids are real they screamed at us and told us to get out of the bar. I don't know what kind of tests they are doing but i couldn't stress that we are all over the age of 21 I think just because our ids are from nevada they kicked us out. read more

My absolutely, positively favorite place to drink in Belmont Shore! It's cheap, great wine selection, decent menu, outdoor seating on a balcony that is prime for people watching, and super nice staff. The bar hovers above the Belmont Shore Athletic Center and if you don't mind sitting inside, it's fun to watch the activities below. Large windows give a first-hand view of the racquetball courts and its super fun watching people working out hard while I sit on my duff and sip good wine. My favorite appetizer is the quesadilla, mostly because of the homemade salsa. It is to die for! And the portions are so huge at a very, very reasonable price. The menu is not huge, but everything is fresh and yummy. The atmosphere is casual and Murphy's fits the bill for being the perfect place to relax and enjoy your afternoon while still sticking to a budget. read more

I come here for trivia pretty often on Wednesdays, and I do really like Murphy's - their rotating selection of beers never disappoints, and the food I've tried here is pretty good. It's usually pretty crowded on Wednesdays when I'm there, but it's a good crowd with a lot of regulars. Three stars because I've noticed they're consistently understaffed (at least on Wednesdays) and kitchen service tends to be slow. The one bartender who's usually there on Wednesdays is so nice, always makes an effort to ask how I'm doing, and definitely deserves a raise/promotion/praise for doing her best to keep up with the Wednesday crowd! There's pretty much always a line at the bar on Wednesday evenings, and getting one more bartender scheduled on busy nights would get customers served much faster. Additionally, on trivia/crowded nights food usually takes upwards of 30 minutes to be served (none of the menu items are too fancy either). I ordered The Natural sandwich, a cold veggie sandwich, the last time I was there, and it took over an hour to be served. Great local spot with good energy and a ton of potential, but consistently understaffed. The staff that is there always works hard and is very friendly! read more

PROS: Great food and very reasonable prices, especially these days. Good trivia program for the most part. CONS: Worst system of service. Essentially, ALL drink and food orders have to be made at the bar, which is run by a lone bartender who is always overwhelmed. Worse yet, there has never been a bartender who has a good sense of "who arrived first" and so you could be waiting for 15-20 minutes at the bar even though you arrived well before other patrons (who never have the decency to say "hey, this person was standing here before me!"). In the very least, there needs to be a "take a number" system employed because the bartenders have too much going on to keep track of who walked up first to the very long bar space. I understand that having only one employee serve the entire bar keeps the prices low. However, more often than not I choose NOT to order food and drinks because the bar is too crowded and I know I'm not going to get served in a equitable manner with the haphazard way customers are served. It's a vicious cycle: the management is too cheap to hire one more bartender for their very, very busy and lucrative trivia nights, which prevents customers from buying more items, which doesn't help pay for another employee. In reality, my one food and drink order of $15-25 would pay for that extra employee for one full hour so you've already made back your money, and then some. I've seen other people walk away from the bar space after it took too long so I know I'm not the only person who refuses to condone bad service. Also, can we talk about how crummy it is for the lone bartender? Have some respect for your employee because I'm sure they don't enjoy being swamped anymore than your customers enjoy waiting a long time to be served. On Wednesdays there is often a manger-type gentleman in the bar who steps in to help when the bartender doesn't know how to handle a transaction, but why not step in when there are 10 customers deep?? Perhaps it is his night off and he's only there to play trivia and help when really needed, but I don't see who could stand by and just watch as their employee/coworker struggles to meet demands and as their place of work does a poor job of satisfying customers. Just bad business practices in general and I won't support them. read more

Zero stars. I tipped 50% on a tab for 6 people, we maybe got there about 11:20pm they close at 12am on a Friday. Felt super rushed to get out right at 12am. Thought maybe we'd get 5 to 10 more minutes to finish the beer we bought instead of getting rushed out. There was 5 of us. Definitely won't be back. This place doesn't look like much on the outside....actually...it doesn't look like much on the inside either BUT, this place is a place where you can feel right at home. The staff are freaken awesome and friendly. The beer is fabulous (get a beer passport if you don't have one yet) and the food is surprisingly very very good for a bar. Everything I've tried has become my favorite, but the two that stick out the most is the Ruben sandwich and the ham sandwich. Sooooo good. So with the beer passport you drink 72 beers (obviously not all at once) and you once you're done, you get your name on a placard on the wall and I believe you get a shirt. They also have more then enough tv's to watch whatever game you want. You can either sit inside or enjoy your meal and beer outside on the patio. I love coming here. It's so relaxed and the atmosphere is super inviting and chill. Side note: if you leave a little too tipsy, don't take the stairs....and if you do....slide down the steps on your butt....IT'S FUN!! Came back to this place after several years as part of a Sunday Fun Day with the wife. It has lots of WIN!: 1) $7.00 pitchers of Miller High Life 2) Great car and people watching below on 2nd Street. 3) Free Cheez-Its! 4) Historic building- used to be an old movie theater 5) Cool bartenders Look- this place ain't fancy. Bartenders are mediocre. Beers are average priced. I met up with friends at Murphy's for the 2nd Street parade yesterday. I came straight from work and did not drink until I came to this bar. It was very busy so on my first 2 beers I tipped the bartender 50% ($4 for a $9 Can) for my first two. Come the third beer, they were out of cans so I ordered a draft. I paid, tipped, and was cut off. What? Cut off? On my third beer?! I get it; they were busy and stressed, but the fact they charged me, I tipped, and they took my beer before I had a sip is beyond me. There were plenty of people there that should have not been served another beer. I was not one of them. I did throw the third tip at them after the fact (solidifying me leaving). Poor judgement on the bartender which reflects directly on this bar. I will not be back. I will take my generous 50% tip elsewhere. read more
