It's a dive bar... and I 100% do not mean that in a negative way. I love a good dive bar and every city needs one. It was my first time at O'Malley's. I came alone and sometimes as a solo female at a bar you feel uncomfortable but bartender made me feel welcome from the start. I ordered a Chicago beef sandwich. It was adequate...Mediocre.... When I think of a Chicago beef sandwich the first thing I think of is pepperoncini and/or au jus but it had neither. But it was decent, kind of like a thing you might grab & go on the road somewhere.... edible but you're not thinking about it afterwards. The sandwiches come with french fries but I got the Greek pasta salad instead. I should've got the french fries because I paid $2 up charge for weak pasta salad. But the reason I'm still giving it 4 stars was that it's a nice local bar. Clientele chatty. My bartender was very cool. I didn't get his name (young,blond, skater type) friendly, welcoming. If you're looking to have some drinks with friends and play pool, I think it's a perfect place, but have dinner first before you get here. read more

Second time in a month. We dropped in on Wing Thursday enjoyed some fantastic wings and a wonderful chicken fillet sandwich. The food was delicious and refreshing. The waitress was friendly and took care of us well. The restaurant was clean and the multiple TV screens kept us entertained. read more

There are four stalls in the women's room. Two of the toilets work and only one has a door. Someone threw green slime or something horrible on the ceiling. There are four stalls in the men's room. Only one toilet works and there is no toilet seat. They have pool tables but one is utterly destroyed and when you ask for pool sticks, the bartender will tell you "they were all broken yesterday." No they weren't. When they used to have pool sticks, they were missing multiple pool balls. They know they're one of the only bars in Sylva with liquor. So they don't change anything. It's been a year since I visited O'Mally's. I wasn't going to go back after the first visit but I noticed O'Mallyy's had posted Closed for Remolding on their kiosk. So I was curious to see what they may have changed. The ceiling tiles were repaired. The womans lavatory was cleaned up. So I am changing my review to a 3 star for effort. They do have VG wings and this is the Thursday special. I have always had excellent servers. Though uniform staff clothing may be more appropriate than shorts so short or so many holes thus revealing too much and seemingly trashy. There were still barstools reserved for locals. I had an early dinner there tonight with my son and his girlfriend before they left to travel home. We were looking for somewhere quick and convenient. I have ate here probably 10 times in 3 years for their buffalo boneless wings. The place is not clean at all, but I liked the wings. Today I ordered them and picked them up. I ate a few of them and then I was chewing and bit into a bone, it broke my molar in half right down to having the nerve exposed. I called the restaurant and spoke to Anika, she said she was the Manager and I told her what happened. She said there are no bones there cooked from the breast. I said wow you don't think there's bones in a breast. She said what do you want me to do, I said pay to get my tooth fixed. She said we don't do that. Come early if coming on a Friday or Saturday night. Good selection of beer, juicy hot wings (try the dragon hart) and college football on the big screen. First time here, so I haven't been here on a weekday... Yet. Good menu with some traditional Irish items. The pretzels with Guinness beer cheese was really good. With Western Carolina University just down the road, most of the staff are college kids trying to get through school. Support them and the small city of Sylva. read more

Charles Castro My wife and I decided to go out and eat tonight so we decided on O'Malley's. We heard they had great wings and I saw a 10 foot ( Not really) but a big burger special. So off we went. We found a parking space pretty fast and close to the entrance. We were able to seat our self and were greeted promptly by Taylor our server. Very nice welcome and was told about the special burger, sounded good but too big for me. Taylor took our drink order and we ordered an appetizer. Fried mushrooms. Great choice the full basket came hot and fresh. The sauce was great. My wife got the 12 wings, garlic mild. I got the steak sandwich. Both were great choices both were cook fresh and the way we liked them. The bill was pretty reasonable for what we ate and we walked out full and some wings left over for later. Well, I haven't been to O'Malley's in a couple of years so maybe I'm not qualified to write this review. But...memories. This place has been around a long time -- I walked in '99 and it was there the entire time I was at WCU (the memories are a little hazy, but I think that's right). I never thought of it as a dive bar -- just a good bar. Always had great wings. Sounds like they still do. I went in there once after the "magic hour" that one chick talks about in her review, and the kitchen was closed. So I offered the waitress $100 to open the kitchen back up and make me some wings. She made it happen, then only charged me the regular cost of a dozen wings, so I gave her the difference between that and the $100 as a tip. Money talks! My mom got a cat, asked me what she should call it, so I named it O'Malley. I guess I liked this place a lot. Glad to see it's still around. read more

Omalleys has the BEST wings in WNC. I was a wing night regular during my college days and always had a blast there. I never really liked much else on the menu but my friend swears by the blackened chicken sandwich. This is a crowded bar with lots of college kids. If that's not your thing then you may want to consider Bogarts or Nick and Nates. Also, the waitresses are tough so don't scrutinize your service too much. They are most likely full time students that deal with dirty old men, drunk college kids, and Sylva locals on a daily basis so take it easy on them. read more

Great food friendly service and cold beer. Did I mention a good crowd and karaoke pretty often and bands too. Best bar in Sylva/Cullowhee area. Love the staff and will miss this place when I move. The wings are awesome with plenty of sauces to choose from. Unfortunately they dont have a really hot sauce. Not sure why a place who features bar wings doesnt have a seriously hot sauce. Os is also way more than wings and liquor. Its has a complete menu and Ive never had anything thats bad. Soups are great and almost if not all food is prepared in house. Wether you will like O'Mally's of Sylva or not really depends on why you are thinking of going and who you are. First, if you think this O'Mally's is the same as the one in Waynesville, it is NOT. The one is Waynesville is for adults looking to have a good time and a nice evening hanging out with friends. Perhaps some good pub food with an Irish flavor. This O'Mally's is more of a sports bar / local hangout / college hangout bar. I guess, if I was still a student at WCU, I would like the place more. But, I am not. Atmosphere: The establishment is not very clean, it is very loud, smoky...and these issue get worse on the weekend when there is a big game on. This will probably improve when smoking is prohibited in North Carolina restaurants and bars after Jan 1, 2010. Service: About what you would expect. Pretty nice and polite. Attentive. Food: Bar food...and not the best at that. It is ok, about what you would expect from a place like this. Probably better after a few beers and if your team is winning. I came here for the first time in a while and from what I saw this place is dissolving just like before. I enjoy the bartenders rob and becky because they're knowledgable, approachable and make the best damn drinks. rob makes an amazing bloody mary and Beckys kind personality is always welcoming. However, seeing the ownership stand around and not assist employees and instead just appear like he's above them is sad. they don't have many good employees left and if the good ones end up leaving like the others they'll lose most of their business. read more

O'Malley's has been in business in Sylva for a long time, and my friends at WCU commit to "wing night" on a weekly basis, with an almost fanatical devotion. I take this to mean that they must be doing something right. Unfortunately, I don't share this devotion, and it's not a place I care to frequent. They stop serving a significant portion of their menu after a certain time - I want to say that 9 or 10 P.M. is the "magic hour," but it's been almost a year since my last visit, so I could be wrong. The last time I visited, the magic hour had passed and we were limited to bar appetizers. We had wings that I considered sub-par. The mozzarella sticks we ordered were passable, but then again, how hard is it to screw up deep-fried cheese? I might have a different opinion of O'Malley's if I made it a point to get inebriated on their property. I also have never visited when the live shows were going on, and for all I know, those could be very good! Until the day I do those things, I'll say that if you're looking for amazing food, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a crowded dive bar, come on over and try it for yourself. Just be sure you don't hit the drunk college students stumbling around the middle of the wee parking lot, because I assure you, you'll encounter them every night of the week. read more

I love O'Mallys. Their staff is nice and the food great. I'm a soup and salad gal so im always getting the soup of the day and ceasar, seasonal is amazing too. This place is awful. It took over an hour for our food to come out. No one said anything to us until I got up and asked for a manager. The waitress was sweet but only refilled our drinks 1 time after being there for 45 minutes. Not to mention, what seemed to be a regular at the bar cursed at me as I was walking out and said "yay, you're leaving now get the f*** out". The manager was no where to be found during all of this and the bartender told us to leave and said nothing to the man who verbally assaulted me for no reason at all. DO NOT GO HERE. Trust me..you don't want to eat here. It's almost like there is no management and left up to the college kids to run. The bathrooms are REALLY disgusting along with the rest of the restaurant and the food is nothing to rave about and definitely not worth the price.Our server was great but I really shouldn't have to feel sorry for my waitress because she is running out of excuses as to why they were out of everything including to go boxes and coke products? Seriously I don't know how a bar can run out of coke products. o.O When I asked to speak to the manager I saw her blow off our server at the bar and pretty much told her to deal with it.
