I went inside Advance Auto Parts and within minutes was greeted by Tony who helped me pick out the best windshield wiper for my vehicle. I also asked if it was difficult to pop on and he said it was not. He then offered to come outside and show me how to put it on. On Friday Oct 11 I called and asked if they would turn 4 rotors for me on Sat. They told me yes. I brought the rotors in at 8am as they suggested. The gentlemen behind the counter told me NO. They would not be able to turn them. I explained to them I called earlier, was told they would and how I need them. When I returned later they were UGLY. "That will be $90." Inner surface not cleaned for a good seat on the lathe (produce runout), EVERY rotor had LOTS of rust remaining. I asked for a micrometer and measured them. The front were still .050 from min while the rears were .030 from min. WHY DID THEY WASTE MY TIME AND PRODUCE JUNK? Now I was faced with waiting for 2 more days until the rotors would be available. Guess they taught me never to have rotors turned. I went elsewhere to buy new rotors.

They made me a cash deal however were having issues with the computers and would send me a receipt. Several calls until they were disconnected got me no receipt. My battery went belly up this year and I ordered a new one at NAPA. I actually forgot it was a NAPA in there until I went to grab it for the core. I asked if on the off chance they could see if there was warranty, if not, no problem as I knew I had no receipt. He did some checking and my $160 purchase ended up being $33. Yep, good customer service and way to stand behind what you sell. I would recommend.

I called Discount Tires yesterday to find out what the mileage was when I bought them knowing the rotation was probably due. Imagine my surprise when I found out I had already put on over 10,000 miles since I purchase them (I drive a lot). They recommend 6 - 8,000 miles for the rotation so it was a little past due. I was out in Naperville today. There are 2 locations in Naperville so I called both locations but neither one was able to take me this week. Naperville is over 40 miles from where I live so coming next week wasn't an option, besides I was overdue for a rotation already. I called the DT in Aurora even though this was about 16 miles further west than where I was @ in Naperville. They said I were taking walk ins so I drove out to Aurora it took about 25 minutes. I was in & out of DT in about 30 minutes. Thank you for the quick turn around it was greatly appreciated. Driving the additional distance had an added advantage. Woodman's Gas station was just over 1 mile away from DT & very close to I-88 which I jumped on to come back to Chicago. The gas is only $304.9/gallon so I filled up saving myself a trip to Costco later.

I've used Bill White's C.A.R. Hospital several times this summer. My car is fun to drive, but at 15 years old, it always needs something. My greatest concern is an unanticipated breakdown, and that's exactly what happened the first time I visited the C.A.R. Hospital. Usually, there's a clear view from the shop area to the waiting area/service desk--where I anxiously crane my neck to see where my car sits in the line of work. Usually, the waiting area is cramped and unclean, a place for stale coffee and man-picked TV. Usually, I find myself on the receiving end of vague terms with hens-and-haws, until I prove my cursory understanding of a fuel combustion engine and the ABS system. Here's what it's like at Bill White's: complementary beverages if you need to wait; free local pick-up and drop-off when requested; always friendly and polite service counter assistance by Rachel, Joy, and Bill; absolutely clear communication about diagnosis of problem and solution to problem, clear communication about the reasonable price of service or repair, and clear communication about exactly when work will be completed; lastly, there's a thank you card or coupon in the mail--real savings, not just some stupid systems-check, on something a car really needs.
