I really like online ordering because if I'm busy, it's convenient enough to place an order ahead. Their prices are very inexpensive. I got the chicken hibachi for like 14$. It came with veggies, white rice, noodles and soup. The chicken was very well seasoned. The soup was my favorite part. Just wish they added more of the fried onions. Just a heads up before going that this is a small takeout only place. I appreciate all the stuff that came with the meal, so the high price point is more worth it (lots of noodles, fried rice, and veggies along with soup or salad) Unfortunately, my beef was super tough even though it was medium rare. Quite an accomplishment, but not a good one! I tried some shrimp from my gf's entree and that was a lot better. The noodles were okay. They just used linguine noodles rather than Asian lo mein noodles, but flavor was decent. In my opinion, the chicken fried rice was the best part - it was hibachi style fried rice with butter in it, like you'd get at Benihana. It was flavorful and delicious! I probably would've given this a 4 if I had the shrimp, but I'm glad I know that the beef should be avoided. While I wouldn't be opposed to eating here again, I don't think I'd actively seek it out. read more

Sumo is a takeout restaurant that serves good quality food. I ordered the Hibachi Steak with salad, fried rice and noodles, mixed vegetables, and a side of garlic butter. There was enough food for leftovers, making it a delicious alternative to the typical takeout or fast food places on Ford Road. Don't make the mistake of walking in to make an order and expecting to get food in 10-20 minutes. It can take 45 minutes for them to fulfill an order. No where else have I ever had to wait an hour and 20 minutes to get some food. The best steak hibachi I've had in a long time. Cooked perfectly to order. Ordered with grilled veggies and rice. The veggies were fresh, tender, and seasoned just enough while allowing the natural flavors to come through. I substituted extra veggies for the noodles and was so glad I did. They had onions, zucchini, yellow squash, broccoli, and carrots. I got a lot of food for the price. And finally, this was an Uber delivery and those are never as good compared to when you dine in, but this was great. Totally five stars out of five stars. This is one of my kiddos favorite spot to dine in when it comes to Japanese fusion. They recommended this place as it was my first time visiting. The dishes were sort of rice bowls with a choice of protein and a scoop of Lo-'mein style noodles or vegetables. We went with all the choices of beef bowl, chicken bowl, and shrimp bowl. I enjoyed all the dishes as the meat was very well seasoned, especially the beef and shrimp. These were all to go orders, as no dine option was available at that time. Tried the original Sumo in canton again. The food is good but the service and wait times are less than perfect. I called at 4:40 to order a chicken fried rice and a side of shrimp. I was told or at least understood the pickup time to be 5:15. When I arrived I was told that it wasn't 5:15 it would be ready at 5:50! I full hour and ten min wait no thanks!!! read more

Ok, be careful what you wish for. We hoped this place would get business so that they stayed around but they are now too busy! Walk in order was suppose to take 15 minutes but it was 35. The quality and quantity has gone down as well, portions are much smaller for same price. Maybe because they are working on 10 boxes at once you just don't get as much chicken and veggies. And FYI to the guy taking the $...the reason you are wearing gloves is so that $, which is pretty dirty, does not mix with food. So after taking payment you have to change gloves Ok, it went from bad to worse. WOW, the price for a chicken hibachi went from $10 to 14! Come on guys, this isn't a sit down restaurant! I love the food here. If you look closely, most of the negative reviews are related to the service. But the reality is, this place is busy because the food is really good AND there is a significant amount of prep. Yes, they don't answer their phone sometimes. Yes, it can take a while to get your food. But I suspect this is because they are already so backed up with orders they can't be sure they will even get to you. It sure doesn't seem like this is due to laziness. They are always very busy and working hard. So order early and enjoy. read more

Carry-out Teppanyaki is an enticing concept to me. We tried Sumo Japanese Grill after getting excited when we drove by it on our way home from work every day. Sadly, I was disappointed. The fried rice had very little flavor (bland and a bit too soft). The tempura shrimp had borderline soggy coating. I don't eat broccoli, so I asked for extra zucchini or onion. I got a tiny portion of a couple slices of vegetables. I feel like someone threw a temper tantrum because I didn't want broccoli - I got a fraction of the vegetables that my companion got without making a special order. I love the concept of the items on Sumo's menu. But none of them were cooked to my satisfaction nor justified the pretty high price. This place is very good. I ordered ahead and got a heaping portion of food when i was told it would be ready. Was very full and probably shouldn't have eaten it all, but I couldn't stop eating. As to the people giving low reviews because they had to wait for their food... in what world do you walk into a takeout place that isn't fast food and order something and NOT have to wait 30 minutes? They told me 30-35 minutes over the phone and that's when it was done. If I have any other experience with wait times I'll let you know. For right now, it's all good. Just call ahead. read more

Excellent hibachi! Quality ingredients. Great value. $10 chicken hibachi comes with soup or salad, sticky rice, noodles, vegetables and a generous side of yum yum sauce. Very flavorful. This place is so consistently good. I've had it probably a dozen times now and I am always happy with my food. My boyfriend has a shellfish allergy and I wrote it in the comments on my online order. When I received our order, shellfish allergy was circled on the receipt and written on his box. It's nice to see that they take the time to do that to ensure there's no contamination. When you advertise that you are open till eight pm and refuse to answer the phone after 7 pm then you have now lost any chance at my business again. I called no less than fifteen times starting at 7 pm till 7:15. While I have never had any issues with the food, I do have a problem with a business who shuts off the phones early to leave at closing time. This was not only the Canton location but also the Livonia location. If they were closed for some other reason, I challenge the owners to reach out and explain, but as it stands I will never order from them again and I will tell all my friends who frequent their establishment. They should've told us before we paid that it was that long. This is a good takeout spot for the 'Benihana' crowd. Prices have gone up already since opening no too long ago, but they are still very reasonable. You have your choice of the regular and not so much (calamari, swordfish). Their upcharges will get you into trouble, so be wary about that. I didn't care much for the chicken fried rice (no real flavor) but mostly everything else is a win. Their salad dressing is the star in my opinion. Inside it's just an open space and a few flat top grills to cook on. They will have your food ready on the counter, which could be thought of a little better. The pro is that they'll bring your food out to you, bit the MAJOR CON is the location. It's shoehorned into a mini lot next to pizza hut and there's almost always no parking most of the operating hours. I'm sure they'll expand or relocate in the future with this in mind, but wish it would happen soon. read more

I had been wanting to try Sumo for a while and today was the day. I ordered shrimp with the fried rice for an extra $2. Next time I'll just settle for the steamed rice. There were maybe 3 little pieces of chicken in the rice and it wasn't flavored well at all. Having said that, the shrimp more than made up for it. Cooked perfect and tasted great with the yum yum sauce. The reason for 3 stars is due to the price. It was a little pricey for take out. If I am going to spend that much on a meal I'll go somewhere I can sit down and enjoy it. read more

Honestly the food here is extremely good. I am giving it a 1 star because of the customer experience trying to contact this place. If you want food you need to call 5-6 times, as they don't answer the phone. If you are lucky enough to get through it's usually 60-90 minute wait. Hopefully they expand because they can't seem to handle many customer orders. We just ate here tonight and I have to say it was delicious! We got the chicken and steak hibachis with chicken fried rice. The price is really good too. Each meal comes with steamed rice, noodles, vegetables, and your choice of either soup or salad. The salad was really great especially the dressing. We are going to get this from now on instead of go to Ichi bon. It's also nice to have noodles in the soup instead of just broth only. We will definitely be back.
