Came upon this little gem at lunchtime while exploring the Ohio countryside. Menu on a chalkboard, screened-in porch, rolls of paper towels on the tables kind of place. We ordered the brisket sandwiches with smoked cabbage as a side. The portions were more than generous! The meat was tender and flavorful and the smoked cabbage was a new-found treat. The food is excellent and the owner and staff really take pride in delivering customer service. It is a bit pricey but worth the cost, you may want to call ahead to place your order. If you go you should try some of the sides which are unique and very flavorful. read more

The absolute BEST BBQ anyone could ask for! The owners/chefs are Good people and involve themselves in the ordering experience, going over the menu with "first timers" and recommending daily specials to return customers as well. The Meats are so good, sauce is not needed, but if you do like sauce, FatMan has you covered with his many made from scratch sauces. Both Chefs (Ron "The FatMan" and Clint "White Chocolate") are of the highest caliber with imagination and skill that is evident with their many dishes at the Pit. The Brisket and Smoked Cabbage are my favorite regular menu items with the Smoked Meatloaf Cupcakes and BBQ Nachos being my favorite "Random Daily Specials". Stopped by tonight for the first time. I have heard good things. We got the brisket for take out. It was very flavorful and tender. Nice bark. We tried Oak Hill for the first time tonight. Ribs were outstanding and loved the sauces! Everybody likes the pulled pork too so now it is in the rotation when we visit the area. The only thing I wasn't in love with were the dirty beans but that's personal preference. Can't wait to try desserts next time! If you are missing the BBQ shack make the drive north. AMAZING. I just recently moved to Sunbury and am so beyond thrilled to have a great place like this close by. The owner is fantastic - very friendly and accommodating. I love bbq, especially brisket, but what i got here was half brisket half fat, literally half my order was fat. Essentially i got half a lb of brisket for the price of a full lb. I understand the will be some fat but never have i gotten an order that was half fat. read more

They don't know how to prepare bbq food at this place. I would suggest hiring people with experience. Also, this place needs to focus more on customer service and how to keep the area clean. We had to ask the cashier for napkins, straws, etc. read more

I don't know why Yelp thinks I'm from San Francisco. I've never been there. Anyway, this food is very good and Fat Man is one of the nicest people anywhere. The eating area doesn't appear to be clean. Just make sure the food goes from your plate to your mouth. If it falls on the table, I would leave it. Don't let Fat Man talk you out of the fries (if you've been there, you know what I'm talking about). They're delicious and may be the best in Central Ohio. read more

I really liked this spot even though it was a little bit of a drive for me. There are a couple different aspects to this place that you have to consider when you visit Oak Hill. I will start with the food. I love that they have a way to sample all of their sides at one time. This made it so that I didn't have to choose just one, which turned out really well since several of the sides were not to my liking. I say it this way because I have friends that swear by the sides and couldn't believe that I didn't like them so take that as you will. The BBQ that I had was delicious and the sauce was really good as well so that was a solid 4 to the sides 3 stars. The thing that REALLY makes this place great is the owner. He came in as I was about half way through my meal and was, quite possibly, the nicest guy that I have ever met. Makes you feel at home in a place that I had never been before. he played with the kids and asked them questions that showed that he wasn't just going through motions. He talked to the adults like they were old friends and I think he may have been old friends with some of them since they talked about everything from work to family. There isn't a lot that brings me out to Sunbury but I will definitely be back for some of this. read more

Went here and got ribs. Also, got some kind of steamed cabbage side dish. Cabbage was good but the ribs were like really dried out and like chewing on a shoe for most of the meat. My guess is that they were reheated leftovers from another day or something. Only reason I gave them 2 stars is that the people were nice - but they just don't know how to cook bbq (at least on my first and LAST visit). My husband and I recently stoppped at the Fat Man's (his words, not mine) to eat dinner. We were pleasantly surprised. Being raised in the South, BBQ has been a huge disappointment here. Oak Hill Barbeque changed that. I ordered the pulled pork which was tender, juicy and flavorful. After hearing the menu and detailed descriptions of each item, I chose the smoked cababge as a side (you can get fries and slaw anywhere). I must say it was delicious! Slightly crisp with a delightful flavor. My husband had the pork and dirty beans. They were very good as well. The "GOLD" sauce is just that, gold! It is the best barbeque sauce that I have had...slightly sweet with just a touch of heat as an aftertaste. I wish he would bottle it, he'd be a millionaire! This was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to: We went there when there was maybe three other tables there and most everyone had been served, so we thought it wouldn't be that long of a wait. We were there over an hour after ordering before we got ANYTHING. When we asked to get water they told us they were to busy to help us, this was about 45 minutes after ordering. We did not get all the food we ordered and my husband brisket was only fat. When went up to talk to them they just looked at me like what do you want me to do and didn't even say sorry or anything. I guess they feel that the customer doesn't matter and that they can do anything that they want. They pork was pretty good, but be ware you may have to bring your own bottles of water, as we did, because they may be just to busy to serve the customers. I promise I won't bother your restaurant again with our time and money. Unless you have extra money to give away and lots of time don't bother coming hear. :( read more
