I had to sauce it up with the brush fire bbq sauce. The original sauce paired well with my cowbell brisket. We visited this location for the first time on Tuesday. Jason was so patient with my indecisiveness and set the tone for a great visit with his positivity. *I hope that's his name, that's what was on my receipt* The brisket was so tender and flavorful that I almost decided to order more to take home to the other kids. We didn't order much this stop because we weren't super hungry and were running errands so I can't say much about the food. The Mac and cheese was good, creamy and not mushy. We've had very hit-or-miss experiences with City BBQ over the past several years and hadn't ordered in quite a while. We were hoping the new New Albany location might provide a better, more consistent experience than we've had at Gahanna, so we decided to give City another try with a takeout order. Unfortunately, it was more of the same. There were some definite positives. The Cobb salad with chicken was very good, and the peach cobbler was excellent - although the whipped cream was missing. Unfortunately, my husband's Not a Sloppy Joe had a couple of small pieces of bone in the meat, which was unpleasant and concerning from a quality-control standpoint. The flavor of the sandwich was excellent but the bones kind of ruined it for him. The fries were just okay, the cookies were dry and broken, and our sides were completely missing. The missing sides were especially frustrating because this has happened to us multiple times before. Because of that, my husband specifically asked at pickup if everything was in the bag. He was assured it was because the items were on the receipt and had been checked off. We got home - no sides. We tried calling to get it resolved, but after sitting on hold for nearly 15 minutes, we gave up. I understand that mistakes happen, but when you're spending a significant amount on a takeout meal, you should be able to trust that the food is prepared properly and that everything you paid for is actually in the bag. When the same problem happens repeatedly - even after specifically asking that the order be checked - it stops feeling like an occasional mistake and starts looking like a quality-control issue. We really hoped the new location would be a better experience, but unfortunately New Albany seems to be just as hit-or-miss as Gahanna has been for us. At this point, we likely won't order takeout from City again. The problem isn't one forgotten side or one disappointing meal; it's the repeated inconsistency that has caused us to lose confidence in the restaurant. read more

City Barbeque is one of my favorite places to get takeout. While most of the time the food is of high quality they missed on my last visit. I'm a little irritated because I spent a significant amount of money on my order. My sides were delicious other than I was missing my fries. I live to far to take things back or to g9 back to get what was missing. My baked beans, cole slaw, peach cooler, banana pudding and cookies were all spot on. However, my ribs and bone-in chicken wings were both dry. They were so dry I could only eat one bone. Others in my family ate one or two bones, but that was the extent of it. I tried to call the establishment, but after being on hold, I gave up. I just wish quality control would be such that a business would refuse to send out an order that is not up to standard. Again this is only the second time that I have been this disappointed therefore I will continue to support City Barbecue. They generally are consistent in their quality. read more

I have always enjoyed City BBQ and I still do. But after my last visit, I was literally blown away by how unbelievably expensive this has become. Basic meal for two with one side each, with one fountain drink, and one water was over $35......and they left room for tip as well. Although food was great, not sure how affordable this "causal dining" option will be moving forward. This has moved into the "special dining" category. Very delicious salad with pulled pork. Had tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese and assorted greens and a hearty portion of pulled pork. I also had a order of hush puppies. Hubby ordered the same but had brisket instead, for a additional $3. Very yummy lunch and a covered patio. read more

Very nice new location with a much more modern atmosphere. We were the only ones there but ate in the very nice patio. Great digital menu by the way. You order and wait for your food as before. They also have you your metal silverware and however much sauce you want. If you want any more sauce any variety just ask. If you want a drink refill you ask them for a new cup. Service was extreme helpfully, the food was excellent and hot. We got the pick 2 meats. One with ribs, chicken (pictured) and two sides the other with ribs and pulled pork with 3 sides. Great smoky flavor, the fries were off the drier, the hush puppies were amazing. It's good to be out again and enjoy a nice meal on a hot day. Love the new location. I always leave City BBQ thinking it was just okay but wasn't offensive and this new location isn't much different. I recently tried something different as I've ordered the same thing for many many years and I regretted it. I tried the pulled chicken sandwich and was really let down by this. Firstly it was really wet and not from any kind of sauce. Like maybe it was pulled early in the day and sitting in broth or something to keep it warm, I'm not sure. I also didn't love the flavor and it didn't mesh well with BBQ sauce. I'll definitely be sticking to my pulled pork going forward, or the turkey which I've also tried and enjoyed. I also always forget I don't like their green beans so this is my note to myself - don't order the green beans, you don't like them. The fries and the mac and cheese are the best sides in my opinion. Their lemonade is a real winner but I miss when they used to have warm BBQ sauce at the condiment bar as well as pickles. I don't know what is happening at City BBQ, but the last few times we have been it was a big disappointment. Two weeks ago we went and I ordered their chicken tenders (first time), and French fries. It had been awhile since we ordered their fries--and what a change. They were frozen fries! They told me they had switched because it was easier for carry out-they stayed warmer?!?! Sounds like an excuse to go cheaper to me. They were bad enough for me to tell them I didn't want them. Such a shame, they were always good before. The chicken tenders, however, were great. My husband ate half my order. They were plump, juicy and pretty large. We went today for lunch and I had already decided to get the tenders again--they were awful. They were dry, small and over cooked. What happened in two weeks? Were the first ones a mistake because it was close to closing time? I won't order them again because I don't trust they will be good. From what I can see, the prices are going up and the quality is going down. They should stick to what they do--bbq, and forget the new tacos, etc. There are several other newer bbq places we have tried, and we will stick with them. read more

I've had the roasted chicken, the ribs and just recently the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. I have to say the Nashville hot chicken sandwich was the best. Normally comes with mayo, slaw and pickles, provolone cheese is extra. Great spicy breading! Will definitely be getting this every time I go. Just keep in mind that the sandwich did not come with a side, it cost like $3.50 just to add a side of fries. You can get delivery from here if you order through GrubHub. I love the smells of this restaurant. It reminds me of my hometown in Missouri. Unfortunately, the Barbeque is not up to what I am used to being raised in between Kansas City and St. Louis. I love buying City BBQ on Rib Tuesdays. However, at this location the service was not what I expected. My last purchase of 6 bbq bones had to be the smallest ribs I've ever seen. My Previous purchase of ribs were not as small, but customer service was mediocre.
