Enjoyed a meal here in busy Lake Geneva on a weeknight with a larger group. Our service was 4 stars- very friendly and got our more complicated order correct. I felt the food was just a-okay. We did really like the mushroom pizza and the prosciutto/arugula pizza the best. The appetizers were just okay and so were our other pizzas. I've been leaving a lot of one- and two-star reviews as of late. Whether that is because I've just hit a string of bad luck or hospitality/retail locations are just in a "COVID funk" (even Yelp hints at this by its message reminding you about the pandemic prior to writing a review), I'm not quite sure. However, Oakfire definitely bucks the latter thought. Pizza is Neapolitan Style, which means quick cooking in an EXTREMELY hot oven, resulting in a charred crust which is slightly crunch, though mostly chewy. I imagine not many people "get it," as our server explained this fact to us probably due to people whining about their pizza not being crispy. Unfortunately, my pepperoni pizza was a little too underdone - the bottom crust should have a little coloring and char marks, and mine was pretty pale. Still, the quality of the toppings --from the mozzarella to the Ezzo pepperoni and the honey drizzle -- was great, resulting in a truly delicious flavor profile. We also ordered the calamari, which was delicately breaded and not rubbery at all, and served with a marinara that was almost more like a tomato bisque, yet was chock full of tomato-y goodness which complemented the breading and calamari very nicely. Finally, service was top notch. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait but were welcome to have a drink in the downstairs part while we waited. About 20 minutes later, our pager went off (under promise, over deliver!). Our server was also prompt and attentive without feeling like we were being rushed, something I imagine a restaurant of this popularity might be accused of in order to turn tables quickly. All in all, other than the slightly underdone pizza, my experience here was a overwhelming success. I would definitely say that this is a "must eat" locale in Lake Geneva. read more

They have an amazing view looking out onto the Lake, you would think they would sit us at the one of those open tables, instead they sat us in front of the ice station, where EVERY employee walks past. Once I got up to move, they sat two other couples there. We ordered a Margherita pizza. There were 6 slices and we had 3 tiny pieces of basil on the whole pizza. Oak fire is a great place with phenomenal pizzas. The location of the restaurant is amazing as the restaurant has a great lake view and sits in front of the bustling shopping area of town. It is first come first serve which means it can be a long wait on popular days, but it has the best pizza around so I'd say it's worth it. Good pizza with a great view of the lake. Came on a Sunday evening when it was pretty busy and waited about 30-40 mins for a table. We went and sat at the bar while we waited and the drinks were great. Once we were seated and ordered, our food came out quickly. The pizza was thin crust so it was a little soggy. I just used a fork and knife and it was good nonetheless. Overall I'd come back here again! Maybe not for the pizza, but the nice view was worth it. read more

Amazing atmosphere right off the Lake, you will have to pay for parking($2 for the hour or $5 for day I believe)if you arrive before 7pm, but apparently Nov. 15 starts free parking. Pizza is the best we have had in this area. Soggy centers with delicious fired crusts. Their sauce uses fresh basil and chopped garlic which gives it an excellent flavor. We loved the Bosco(mushroom and sausage) pizza so much we ordered two. The second one we ordered with the special mozzarella, which honestly I couldn't tell much of a difference between the two. I've been to this place many times as I am a frequent visitor to Lake Geneva and is one of my favorites place to grab lunch or dinner (never tried breakfast here) It is located right by beautiful lake geneva and has sitting outside, inside and at the upper deck. Last I visited was during Christmas time and since it's a slow season due to winter, I just walked in and got a prime window sitting with view of lake. I wanted to sit at upper deck but it was reserved for an event so couldn't. - I ordered a mule which was very refreshing and an arugula salad which I intended to share with a friend. My server brought it in two separate plates which itself looked like full portion for each! It was super fresh and tasty. We also split, which I believe was a Bianca Pizza with vegetables toppings with extra garlic. These wood fire pizzas are to die for! Can easily be certified for DOP certification!! ( it's a certification for authentic Italian food) I went to the same place for dinner and had pizza again. Ha ha! A special shout out to the staff there as I reached for dinner at their almost closing time and yet they attended and welcomed me with utmost patience and smile on their face. Of course, I rewarded them with generous tip which they duly deserved. My first time here and I would probably come again! Wood fired pizzas cooked quickly at super high heat..I think she said 1000 degrees for just a few minutes. This was a Neapolitan pizza joint, and their marinara pizza is definitely on point with simple yet wholesome flavors. The Napoli salad was also delicious, but I would recommend getting the dressing on the side if you're a lighter salad eater. The most memorable was the nutella pizza, which our server recommended. Really a pizza crust sandwich stuffed with Nutella and caramelized banana topped with extra chocolate sauce, it was absolutely delicious. The view from the second floor of the lake was also stunning. Not only does this place get super busy, but most folks order individual pizza's. That being said this is not a fast food place, it is a sit down restaurant that you need to spend a little time at. Awful hostess. Walked in early around 5:30pm when it was not that busy. One hostess greeted me and I asked for a table for 4. Then I followed up with her and requested a table for outside. The second hostess turned around, snapped at me and asked me to wait a minute. As I responded to her that I was talking to other hostess, she refused to listen or apologize. My husband let her know that was unnecessarily rude and she responded with 'thank you' with no eye contact. Oakfire is a great option by the lake. We ordered the Pesto Di Salisiccia pizza, which has Italian sausage, pesto, panna, mozzarella, and pecorino romano. The pizza was packed with flavor, especially the sausage, which was the standout in the dish. The pesto really comes through with each bite as well. We also ordered the burrata, which we enjoyed. Note that the crostini that come with the dish are particularly big. While I would have preferred larger tomatoes for balance (the dish comes with baby heirloom tomatoes), all of the components came together nicely for enjoyable bites. The only disappointing dish that we got was the calamari, which lacked flavor and could have certainly been crispier. The marinara sauce for dipping was also watery. Our meal finished strong when we ordered the delicious pizza con Nutella. We ordered the half size, which was perfect for two people. The pizza (two pieces) comes stuffed with bananas, and is topped with Nutella, strawberries, powdered sugar, and a chocolate drizzle. The basil is subtle, but it adds so much to the dish. All in all, we enjoyed our visit to Oakfire. I can't comment on how busy the restaurant gets during peak hours. We dined during off hours in the mid afternoon so there was plenty of seating. We drove up from the Chicago suburbs to have Sunday dinner in Lake Geneva with no restaurant in mind and chose Oakfire based on the lake front location, trendy building, and the menu online looked great. We had high hopes as we have a place like this near us that we love (Slyce Coal Fired Pizza in Wauconda...go there, it's better!) We walked away feeling kind of meh about the whole experience. The design of the place is really great so they have that going for them. Our service was...awkward, not friendly for welcoming, and left a lot to be desired. I've worked in the service industry and know that this is a leadership issue. How about, because you are in a destination town, teaching wait staff to welcome guests by saying, "Hi, I'm so-and-so and I'll be your server. Have you been here before?" If the guest says no, the staff should give an overview and share any specials. If there are no specials, share popular items. This is basic stuff guys. Our bruschetta was ok. The parmesan was basically powder and blew all over the second anyone at the table exhaled. Shavings would be better. The tomatoes were pale and flavorless, and the whole thing needed more acid. A balsamic glaze would have been nice. The salad was the best part, but with fresh greens, salad is kinda hard to screw up. The pizza was so very soft and wet with really doughy crust. It seemed underbaked, but looked like every other pizza being served. I don't know if they need to get their oven hotter or look into getting 00 flour but something is not right. Neapolitan pizza is not synonymous with soft, wet, doughy crust. The lack of huge air bubbles in the crust is another indicator that something is off. The bufala cheese was great, but dough is everything with this type of pizza so that overshadowed my experience. I get that bufala cheese is wetter when cooked, but it also shouldn't make the slices fall apart like they've been soaking in sauce and cheese water for a whole day. I'm not sure that we'll be back. read more
