The sign says Isley's chipped ham... They did not chip it as the sign suggested and as we ordered. We made sure to let them know chipped very fine and both times they gave it to us sliced and with attitude when we asked if can be done chipped. It just seems like a bunch of young kids are working here wanting to go home. The tables were brought inside and hour early so we couldn't sit outside. The wrap got soggy, and the dressing was strong, so I recommend that less dressing be used. My husband ordered the Chrissy Club (4 stars), which contained turkey, ham, American cheese, bacon bits, spring mix, mayonnaise, and no tomato at his request. Solid local deli! We stopped in thanks to a recommendation from another nearby business. I always appreciate when the owner/manager takes pride and wants to make sure the customer is happy. They asked if we've been before, walked us through the menu, shared a few favorites and made our order fresh! The sandwich was average, but the real winner was the loaded potato salad. Would definitely return to try one of the many other items. They also offer soup and a other prepared foods. I've driven past this place for about six months since I moved here and I finally got a chance to head over for lunch. I think I was expecting more... something. I can't quite put my finger on it but everything was made quickly with quality ingredients. The sourdough bread was nice and soft while the crust was chewy.I got the Chrissy's club which I thought was lacking on meat compared to the DeVita's Italian that my friend got but I wasn't that hungry so I wasn't upset about it, but if you are maybe order double meat. The macaroni salad to me was bland and a little dry, my friend didn't seem to mind. I also ordered pasta salad, which was good. They use their own vinegar and oil based dressing with good noodle to stuff ratio. I also really enjoyed the cabbage soup. It was sweet, which I wasn't expecting, but I enjoyed it a lot. The inside is small, but we were able to sit down and eat our food. A lot of people came in for takeout though while we ate. There are times when I really want to love a place. This was one of those times. Close by, in my adopted home town and sounding like the kind of place I owned many years ago. I will admit that it was a bit of a struggle getting in, since there is a step up to get to the door, and I'm in a power chair. Still, I made it, although it took some navigating inside, since the traffic pattern is kind of narrow. I looked for some ambience, but there was none to speak of. There are a few small tables inside and out, and a long counter that doesn't seem to have any structure. You order at one end, are given a number and you go to the other end to wait for that number to be called. There is no salesmanship to speak of. I'm always looking for that extra level of customer service. You are on your own here. There are a few menus taped up and a few signs, but the placement and spacing of these leave a lot to be desired. It is as though they expect that you've been there before and know exactly what they're all about. I ordered a sandwich and was asked if I wanted anything else, with no suggestions. The salads were away from the sandwich menus and it wasn't until I arrived back at the front that I noticed that they had soups listed. I'm not sure if they have drinks available. I don't recall seeing any and none were offered. There really isn't much in the way of atmosphere. It felt like a cold, dispassionate place. There was no music and little if any chatter you normally find in a place such as this. I saw a passion of mine listed as a soup. I have fond memories of stuffed cabbage, since it was a dish that my mother and grandmother made in large pots at least monthly. When I saw it on the menu as a soup, I will admit I had high hopes and expectations. In a place like this, I would expect soups to be made daily, on premises. That was not the case here. The girl behind the counter stuck a thermometer in what looked like a large crock pot and came back to tell me that it wasn't ready. I will admit that this baffled me, since it was 11:30, and you would think they'd be prepared for a lunch. She gave me a small amount to try, mainly to see if the temperature was acceptable. It wasn't. It was cold and not nearly at a serving level. That made me think 2 things. 1st, that the soups aren't made daily on site, since it would have been hot coming out, and 2nd, that it had been made sometime well before and had been refrigerated or frozen. Then again, it could be that it wasn't really a special or soup of the day and could have been a prepackaged product. I declined to purchase any and spit the cold taste back into my bowl. It could have been a great product, but I would never know. My sandwich was good enough to give them a few stars, but not on the level of exceptional. I will admit that it was good, it just wasn't great. The meatball comes on an acceptable bun, with a pretty good tomato sauce and provolone cheese, although it was a shredded cheese and not a sliced cheese as I would have expected from a deli. The seasoning was good in the meatball and I have to give them high marks for that. I think it would have been better if the bun had been toasted or grilled, so it wouldn't have gone soggy as quickly. There were 4 large meatballs inside and I felt that it was well worth the price. If I had a suggestion, it would be a better atmosphere and a better trained staff. I was hungry and would certainly have tried other things if they had been offered. Even the cheapest fast food places ask if you want fries with that. They have some salads and possibly other items that just didn't register with me. I'm typically pretty observant, especially since I do a number of reviews in several forums. I have to say I wasn't impressed. It is hard to rate a place as boring, but that is the best description for this place. As a quick sandwich place for take out, I think it is acceptable. I couldn't see myself spending a minute longer there than I needed to. They could and should do better. read more

There's not a lot of places to find open on a Sunday when you are under time constraints but since we wanted to get something fast my husband and I stopped here for lunch. Basically it is a grab and go sandwich shop but they do have a few tables for in house dining. The cold cuts are provided by Boar's head. They also serve breakfast sandwiches till about 1. They sell soup and they have a few groceries in the back for purchase. In addition they have specialty sandwiches of the day or you can build your own. My husband had an Italian sandwich with coleslaw while I settled for an oven roasted turkey on pumpernickle with lettuce and tomato. Drinks are available for purchase in a cooler near the restroom. They do have styrofoam containers to help you gauge the size of the portion you wish to purchase. We got our food after paying at the register and sat down. It was typical better end grocery food. Between the sandwich and the coleslaw that was enough for a quick bite. The deli is located across the train tracks directly opposite the Oakmont Bakery. There is a walkway if you are parking on that two way street which will safely get you across the train tracks. read more

Love this place. I can't speak to their brunch offerings but I've ordered from the deli menu twice, both times have been very good. Great deli sandwiches with lots of choices of toppings, meats, and cheeses. The speciality sandwiches are expertly crafted - I really like the Deli Dunker ( essentially a French Dip), lots of meat with a side of au jus. Also the Big Dan and Cajun Rueben have not let me down. I've seen many customers come in to get their deli cuts to take home - a great selection of Boars Head meats and cheeses. The menu is not overwhelming - which can be tedious at a deli. Just all the ingredients for a great sandwich - with a pickle on the side! I'm in agreement that Pgh is in need of more quality delis and this is certainly one. There are five tables inside the restaurant where you can eat or you can carry out. My favorite sandwich is corned beef and swiss on marble rye. Today I decided to get the combo:1/2 a sandwich plus a cup of clam chowder. You can make up your own sandwich or get one of the specialty sandwiches; and all sandwiches come with a crunchy pickle. My main issue is the price versus portion. I'd like to go here more often; however, the prices aren't much cheaper than Panera and the portions are about the same. When I'm in New York City, I love the delis for sandwiches, but I don't know of too many places like that in Pittsburgh, until I found Oakmont Deli by accident after stopping in Oakmont to visit a clothing store my wife heard about. When we saw the sign that they had hot soup, we thought it would be a fun place to warm up. I was pleasantly surprised by the great food and old school style of this fun deli. The lunch meat selections are expansive, and are either Boars Head brand, or made in house. They had some cool stuff like sliced ribeye, pulled pork, slabs of meatloaf, and lots of turkey flavors, roast beef pastrami, hams, and other deli standards. They have lots of cheeses, different sliced breads, and many toppings like fresh tomato slices, lettuce, red onions, roasted red peppers, and more. I had a roast beef sandwich on wheat with cheddar cheese, mayo, and lettuce and tomato, and the sandwich was thick, the roast beef was flavorful, and the tomato slices were cut thick. The sandwich was wrapped in white paper with a thick pickle spear (yay pickles!). I paired it with their homemade tomato basil soup, which had big chunks of tomatoes and a tasty sauce like texture. My wife also had roast beef on sour dough bread, and she had French onion soup, which was had a rich beef broth, tasty onions, and thick bread with oozing cheese on top. It was some of the best French onion soup I've had. Other sides available included coleslaw, potato salad, pasta salads, and more, plus a selection of chips and snacks, and lots of drinks. Oakmont Deli also sells lunch meat by the pound, as well as specialty sandwiches with lots of meats, cheeses, and toppings. There's lots of other sides, daily soups, and for dessert, gelato. J and I came here for lunch today. We really liked the overall decor of the deli, with the antique cash register in the window, photos of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, and model planes. We both ordered the "build your own" sandwiches. J had maple honey ham and havarti cheese on sourdough bread. I ordered the Cajun turkey with havarti cheese, tomatoes, spring mix, and mayo on sourdough bread. I also ordered wedding soup. Our sandwiches came with a pickle. My four stars are for the atmosphere, it's a quaint little deli,clean and staffed with friendly people and with a very good selection of typical deli foods. My criticism is that the portion size does NOT justify the exorbitant prices that the Oakmont Deli charge for there product , and how they nickel and dime you for every little thing on the sandwich. I ordered an egg salad sandwich and when it arrived I thought the chickens had died or there was an egg salad shortage, this sandwich had hardly enough egg salad to cover the bread and was absent the bacon I ordered to go on the sandwich. After paying my bill i.felt totally ripped off and felt that I was way over charged for what I ordered and what I got. This might just be the last time I go to the deli.
