We love this place, it's our go-to sot in the neighborhood. Great relaxing vibe with the patio and bar, great food selection. We love the roasted chicken, the beat salad, the fish and chips, the brussels sprouts are amazing and the lobster roll is solid. My only ask, don't cook the tomato bisque in the same pot as the lobster bisque, it gives a hint of lobster bisque in the soup and is off-putting. read more

We went to dinner with friends and wanted to try something new, so we decided on Oar & Iron. Very glad we did. You walk into a spacious dining area complete with a large bar and an open kitchen. You immediately feel like you are in for a treat. The service is tops, especially if your server is Denisha! She loves her job and you can tell because Denisha exudes joy and is very service centric. The house Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are good and the iced tea and Arnold Palmers were kept full. For our meals: Soup and Salad Duo: the Lobster Bisque was tasty but only had one chunk of lobster meat. There was so much blue cheese dressing on the wedge salad that it was soggy. Grilled Salmon: It was grilled and seasoned to perfection. This was definitely the star entree at our table! Fish & Chips: This plate looked appetizing, but it was bland tasting and the breading didn't stick to the fish when you took a bite. Short Rib Gnocchi: The short rib meat was tender and tasty, but the gnocchi was somewhat dry and flavorless. The Marsala cream sauce was a bit on the sweet side for me. Even with the mixed reactions on our entrees, we all enjoyed the ambiance and look forward to coming back to try other offerings. The ribs looked very good and they offer prime rib on certain days of the week. They do take reservations and have quite a nice and extensive outdoor dining area. First of all our service was fantastic. Ashley our server was fast and friendly, very knowledgeable about the menu and offered great suggestions. The restaurant itself has a nice feel, and I always love being able to see the kitchen. I would say the only downside was some of the food. We ordered a cornbread appetizer, which was delicious, almost more of a cake than cornbread but really tasty. I ordered the lobster bisque, it was extremely small, had exactly 3 pieces of lobster and tasted only of salt. I was really disappointed. My husband ordered a steak sandwich and I wish I had taken a picture of it, it immediately was disappointing. It looked like an empty bun on a plate with a tin cup of sweet potato fries. Very stingy portions, it looked very plain. It was definitely a different take on a steak sandwich, instead of nice cut up slices, it was minced, so the usual nice chew of steak was replaced with a bite of mushy almost ground beef consistency. He said the flavor was ok but he definitely wouldn't get it again. Overall, while a nice atmosphere, we found the food to be underwhelming and the portions to be small. Stop by Oar & Iron at Colonial Blvd near I-75 right behind TopGolf. This is a brand-new location opened in February 2025. As you walk in, you realize that it is bigger than you expected. It has a huge bar, with indoor and outdoor seating, it can easily accommodate up to 250+ patrons. The ambiance is contemporary. Oar & Iron is a raw bar and grill. Normally, I love to try their seafood, like P.E.I mussels, a few oysters and clams or shrimp cocktail or grilled octopus. However, this is lunch meal, and we keep it simple! We got appetizers, Oar & Iron Chicken Wings, crispy Brussel sprout, Oar & Iron burger and a Grouper Taco! They have local beers from Fort Myers Brewing, Palm City Brewing, Scotty's Bierwerks on draft. But I opted for Yuengling instead. The Oak & Iron wings were cooked perfectly, juicy and hot. The Brussel sprouts and burger was cooked to the right temperature. The small fried grouper stripes were fine and tasty! My personal preference is blacken instead of deep fried. However, the Grouper Taco could use a little more Creole Aioli sauce and pickled onion. It was overloaded with too much cilantro lime Jasmine rice! The staff was very friendly and professional. Was so excited to give O&I a try. The idea for sea and land focus is fun. The restaurant is very loud. Outside is better, but the sound bounces around and conversations get louder and louder. Service was good. Had the lobster bisque. It had really nice lobster pieces but was over salted. The poke was good. We've been there twice now and both times have been absolutely incredible. They have wonderful food, amazing servers who are really knowledgeable and skilled and their drinks would be worth going there just to sit at the bar. Upscale feel with a laid-back vibe. Decided to have my husband's birthday lunch at Oar & Iron. Comfortable, clean, bright and calm, couldn't have asked for anything more. The food was delicious. I had the fish and chips and my husband had a BLT-A with sweet potato fries. Yum .... They did not have the cod fish for my fried fish filet, so they asked if a grouper filet would be okay. Let me start with the good: this place has ambiance. Sleek granite countertops, copper salt and pepper mills, that upscale-casual waterfront vibe without the water-- Oar & Iron looks the part. But looks, my friends, will only get you so far. Before we even get to the food, let's address the strangest thing I've ever encountered at a restaurant: there is no complimentary water. None. You want water? That'll be two dollars per person--for filtered water. Not bottled Evian. Not fancy sparkling from the Alps. They're filtering tap water and charging you two bucks a head for it. I've dined at a lot of places, and I have genuinely never seen this move. We passed on principle--but imagine sitting down for a nice meal and being told basic hydration is an upcharge. Absolutely bizarre. We kicked things off with the calamari, served up on a long plate with a creamy dipping sauce. Crispy, decent flavor, no complaints on execution. But the portion? Twenty-one dollars. Twenty-one dollars for what amounts to about five bites each if you're splitting it. At that price point, I'm expecting a generous pile of golden fried goodness, not a modest arrangement that leaves you still hungry. The short rib gnocchi had promise--rich, beefy flavor in that sauce, pillowy gnocchi, fresh parsley and shaved parm on top. It wanted to be a star. But here's the thing: half the short rib pieces were more fat than meat, and the portion left us wondering if the kitchen was rationing. Good bones on this dish, but it needs more love in the execution. Now, my wife's scallop risotto. Beautiful presentation--golden seared scallops perched on creamy rice with fresh arugula. Looks like a magazine cover, right? Wrong. It arrived missing ingredients. Just... incomplete. And that's where service comes in. Speaking of which: our server was MIA for the first half of the meal. Questions unanswered, that "are we invisible?" energy. Things improved later, but first impressions matter, and ours was rough. The Verdict: Oar & Iron wants to play in the upscale dining league, but it's not earning the price of admission. No free water--and charging for filtered tap? A $21 appetizer that barely qualifies as a snack? Fatty short ribs, an incomplete dish, and a server who forgot we existed the first half of our meal? This one drops to two stars. We visited this restaurant after traveling to Fort Myers. We were looking forward to a good dinner, but got a really bad meal. Our server was pleasant enough, but that's where it ended. I ordered the NY Strip steak, medium rare, with mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. I got awful steak full of gristle, thin, and dry. The mushrooms were almost non-existent, and the mashed potatoes were a single scoop that were also dry. My wife got the roasted chicken. Again, very dry and almost inedible. The only good part of the meal was the brussel sprouts. The steak was an incredible $50. Also, no bread offered. This restaurant is right off the highway, and I can't help to believe that they take advantage of travelers. They offer "gluten free" but realize all they do is substitute gluten free pasta for the other ingredients. That pasta is hard, cold, and NO taste. Food was not even warm. Poor taste. Beautiful restaurant but the food was bad. This is the menu description of what I ordered "Pan-seared scallops, roasted corn risotto, blistered baby heirloom tomatoes, arugula." What I got was rice pilaf with steamed scallops and arugula. I told the bartender it didn't look right and he took it back. The manager came over to say they were remaking it. It came back with a sliced tomato mixed into the rice. Nothing like I expected and it was not good. I've added pictures of the first and second attempt. She was full of knowledge about the history of this restaurant and the multiple locations. Very fun to talk with. Next... The food. It was a Friday so I decided to try the fish and chips - excellent choice! This was not your typical Florida fare, it was absolutely scrumptious fare from New England. Fish was not overly breaded in the fries were just perfect. Husband had their soup and salad lunch and raved about both. If you're in the area, this is a wonderful spot to stop for a little more upscale lunch. Frequented by business people and travelers alike as it is near several nice hotels. This is such a hidden gem! Especially if you have Celiac or food allergies. I had the grouper tacos and fish and chips. It was my first time having fried fish tacos! Pretty much everything on the menu can be made Gluten Free and all of the desserts are already gluten free. The service was impeccable. Our waitress Sam was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. She reports they've all had allergy trainings. Our food came out fast and hot. The music was easy listening and not too loud. We came for lunch and are already planning to come back for dinner and happy hour! My gluten eating husband had the grouper sandwich and was impressed with his meal as well. I hope they come to Minnesota! My food came out with an allergy flag which made me feel reassured that everything was going to be safe to eat. Probably a 2.5, a nice looking establishment that missed on some of the basics. If you order a medium well burger the chef should know how to cook it first time, not have to re cook when the server tells them it's not properly cooked.... Then the fries sat while they cooked it more..... then let it sit there for 10 minutes before delivering to the table..... not the best burger with very cold fries!!!!! They forgot to give us the happy hour menu and only did so when they handed them out to someone else. Brie and Pear flatbread was a good size but could have done with more than one small piece of pear by slice. I thought it was all expensive for the quality and limited service. Final observations, it may have been me, but the drink sizes seemed short! read more
