We originally moved from San Diego to a temporary rental in Bermuda Dunes. One of the criteria was that the mover had to have baby grand piano moving experience. We used a San Diego moving company and had a mediocre and expensive service! Not wanting a repeat when we finally moved from the rental to our new home, I researched local Coachella Valley movers. We were moving fro from Bermuda Dunes to Palm Desert - 2.5 miles. I found what turned out to be a wonderful service (With great Yelp reviews). It's a family-owned and operated company from Cathedral City. Oasis Moving Company, 68185 Marina Rd., Cathedral City 92234 - (760) 322-8000 The owner Armando Gutierrez has one helluva experience having moved a lot of celebrities over his 20+ years in the biz. He knew his stuff and came up, not only with a moving plan but a where-to-put-all-the-boxes plan that really worked out. And he knew more about the ins and outs of moving pianos and refrigerators than anyone I've experienced. He used a 50-foot trailer truck so that he and his son and brother didn't have to stack very high thus protecting the load. On day one they loaded the truck with everything. On day 2 he drove this huge truck down our dead-end street (and back out) like the pro he was. His total price was very reasonable and what he had bid. Armando works throughout southern CA. For example, he'll move a house from, say, Chula Vista to Escondido. Bottom line: I'd recommend him over any other for SoCal moves. BTW: He also owns a smaller rig for lighter loads. We hired Armando and his Crew last minute. We moved from La Quinta PGA to Big Horn. They arrived at 8:45am for a 9am start. We got a very good competitive rate for 3 people with a min of 4hours but went over to 7hrs. Armando and his team are very professional. They had helped us packed some items in the boxes. They said they would be there at 8:00 a.m. They literally arrived the very second the clock hit 8:00. They (Armando and his co-worker) were friendly, courteous, moved quickly but very cautiously. We only had a few things, moving them to a nearby location. When they had everything in the house (scattered about because I hadn't decided where I wanted to put things, he totalled the bill and mentioned that we owed the minimum and he still had a little time and would be happy to help me arrange the furniture. He and his partner stayed for almost 15 more minutes and moved sofa beds, chairs, tables, gave some really good suggestions, and wouldn't leave until I was sure everything was the way I wanted it to be. He showed up on time, worked very hard, blanketed and protected all of our furniture, and met us at our new place (A state away!) On time and ready to work. I am missing a moving box and Armando will assume no responsibity for it. My house was totally empty when he left and when he got to my new residence, one box was missing. I have no recourse as he denies it being missing. There are items that have great sentimental value to me. I have the feeling that they were broken and he covered it up. read more

I used him 2 years ago and he was nice so I gave him a call this time. Last time it was much cheaper, this time he over charged. Last time it was $400 and he courteous and kind. This time he was yelling at me, cussing the whole time, being rude and obnoxious. He arrived 10 minutes early so I should be praising him right? I had everything ready for him, he told me to shrink wrap everything myself. He wasn't doing it. I had everything in the driveway and the living room easily accessible. Mind you I'm disabled, I don't and shouldn't be doing much. Then he same 2 hours loading and 2 hours unloading. $150 per hour. Overcharging by way too much. He told his 2 helpers not to pick up and put my items on his 50 foot truck that he was bragging about how big it was. Yet he doesn't have room for my stuff, or he just didn't want to pick it up. He told me if I can't move the rest in my truck then pshhh like whatever as he babbles under his breath as he walks away. Arrogant old man that just seriously should go retire. You don't like your job then don't do it. Plus he took off from my house all mad, cussing about my things, and he knew exactly where we were going then stopped in the middle of the street and didn't turn, called me and said I didn't see where you were going. Then why did you take off so fast from my house? Then at the storage he had to back up his truck OMG how dare I make him back up HIS truck. It took him 15 minutes to back it up successfully but you have your class A license? Yeah he was just wasting time because when he left, he pulled right out on the first try. I left for about 30 minutes, came back and when I arrived, he literally started cussing again saying my fucking exercise bike is taking up a bunch of room. He packed the unit ridiculously wrong and just tried to fill it up, definitely had to go out of his way to do it wrong because he knew we had more stuff at the house, that he refused to take, because I should be able to take it in my truck. There was still many other things that he didn't take, 3 full size beds that were taken last time and he didn't even take one of my refrigerators and my washer/dryer because they were given to the buyer in the sale of my home. Other things I gave away, a full table, and anyway he still just filled up the unit wasted so much space and now we have to repack it because he did not do it right. Something someone with 20 years experience would definitely have to go out of his way not to do. He was yelling at me in my driveway about picking up things and loading for 2 hours something we agreed to, that he did not do, he only loaded for one hour, 30 minutes. He finished 50 minutes early but I still had to pay him the full 4 hours @ 150 per hour. $600! Hes a rip off! Then I asked about him being bonded and insured and he said why once it's off my truck, blah blah and I said well what if I pull it out of the storage unit and something is broken? He said oh well. I said so what does that mean and he said well you were here when I packed it and I said no, I left for like 30 minutes. He didn't care, he said ok wait for me by the gate to let me out and you might have to wait for me because it might take him several tries to get out, no he got out on the first try, wasted time the whole time because he wanted to rip me off. Don't use him, he's a miserable old con man, a jerk. read more

I used Oasis a second time because they did such a great job the first time. I was having my elderly mom's furniture moved and it was a small job but Armando always makes you feel like the job is important, regardless of the size. You can read my former review on 3/25/13. This time something unfortunate occurred that the intended place for my mom wasn't available. While we tried to figure out what we were going to do, Armando waited patiently for several hours and all along he said, "No problem, we can wait." And he sincerely was cheerful about it. He didn't want us to make a mistake in finding the right place for my mom. And his moving van had all her stuff as it sat in the street waiting for the next move. Finally, we decided what to do (our own home) and he went there and helped my husband rearrange the garage to put my mom's stuff in and set up her room. Although it was a very very very stressful day, Armando lightened our load with his helpfulness and compassion. (And he was even scheduled to go to another job). I will continue to book Armando for all moving jobs. He's a gem. read more

I called and asked about moving and do they have workers comp insurance. He said it was only he and his brother, didn't need it. Then immediately talked about people that worked for him. I asked him to come look at give a written estimate. He said no, he only worked with hourly rates. I would not trust this guy at all! read more

I have used Armando for at least 4 moves, and every time he has been amazing. Even at the end of some long days, he always left with a smile on his face. Moving is stressful in itself, but Armando always seems to make it a little more bearable. I would recommend him highly to anyone doing a local or out of town move. read more
