AVOID AT ALL COST if timing, communication, and reliability are important to you as you plan your move. We used Desert Moving Co. & Storage to assist with our move into a new home in Palm Springs. Specifically, we leveraged their receiving, storage, and delivery services to assist as this was a vacation home where we live in Los Angeles full time. Given the logistics involved, timing and coordination were important. As we purchased most of the furniture for the new home, they were shipped, and stored at Desert Moving until we were ready to coordinate the move into our new home. It took two weeks to be able to lock down Desert Moving for an actual date. What was even more frustrating was the fact that they were supposed to be supplying us with a running list/inventory of deliveries received to include inspection for damage etc.. This never happened. It required repeated requests for an inventory of what was received and when. This never came until very late the night before the "scheduled delivery". I took the day off from work, drove to Palm Springs and waited in an empty home for move that never happened. I was told in the afternoon that a crew was not available. It required a significant effort on my part to get them to deliver the next day which required a complete scramble of my work schedule to accommodate their change in availability. (NOTE) A chair that Federal Express had record of delivering to Desert Moving was no where to be found. Desert Moving said that Fed Ex often lie about delivery when they lose merchandise. In turn, we went back to the manufacturer and a new chair delivered directly to our home. During the move in, several outdoor chairs were damaged by the movers when being assembled. A supervisor came on site, we reviewed the chairs together, and he said they would follow up for resolution. Never heard from anyone. Shortly there after we received our bill and I emailed their accounting department and the service rep with whom we had been working to inquire about reimbursement/replacement of the damaged chairs and received no response. Next thing I knew, they charged our card on file for the full amount of the invoice. After several calls and emails, I finally connected with someone who told me our service rep was no longer with the company. This does not explain their accounting department not responding to my inquires. Very long story short. What should have been a very simple fix- replacing the damaged chairs which were actually very inexpensive, turned into weeks of emails and phone calls. I was finally connected to a manager who after giving me the run around for weeks, came up with a solution. The chair that went missing, miraculously appeared and they offered to deliver the chair for me for free in lieu of paying for the damaged chairs. As I shared they lost the chair, we had it replaced over a month ago. Still no offer to make good on the damaged goods that 3 of their employees including a supervisor acknowledged while onsite during our move. Desert Moving seems incredibly unorganized. Poor communication, terrible service, and based on the shady experience with someone at the managerial level, I find them to unethical in their business practices. read more

DO NOT HIRE!! I hired Desert Movers to give a small local company some business. However, although Mike, the owner, seemed nice and professional over the phone initially, the men he sent over (3 of them for $120/hr) were awful. They failed to wrap my wood furniture with the moving blankets Mike told me to get thereby causing extensive damage to my furniture during transport. I have never had such a negative experience with movers. I expect a few minor damage or scratches here and there but nothing like this. First the movers caused a huge crack in the tile of the house I was moving out of (which Mike has yet to remedy), then the failure of the men to properly wrap my wood furniture in the blankets caused extensive cracks, scratches and dents. read more

"DMC" failed to surrender a large cabinet of ours to our interstate mover (it had been in storage at two of their facilities and moved between the two facilities without our knowledge or consent). DMC - meaning the owner Sabo family - has refused to send the cabinet for 7 months, taking turns as to who is the point person and pretending not to know the facts, despite the fact that there are at least four relatives running the company. All I have is good things to say about these guys. It was a long-distance move, so they worked for two days. They were on time, fast, efficient, very careful with everything, and even moved a drafting table out THROUGH A WINDOW. Find me someone else who will go to those lengths. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Last time I moved, 18 months ago, was a disaster. So I kept fearing the worst, but DMC came through, man. I contacted the company after finding them on Yelp to help with my move. The scheduling was easy. We picked a date and time. Although they gave me a 1 hour arrival time window, the movers showed up right on time. No waiting at all. The movers were Juan and Danilo. Both men were polite, friendly and very efficient. They were careful with my belongings. When we reached my new home, they unloaded everything quickly and carefully. The employee movers were great, but I wouldn't use this company again or recommend them. I was quoted a move from Indio to Winchester with 3 movers and an 18 wheeler on a Saturday. What I got was 2 guys late on Saturday because the 3rd no showed for work or the truck I ordered wasn't available not sure which because I was given both excuses by the same person. The two guys that did show up on Saturday brought a 27' truck. A third guy showed up a couple hours later but when my stuff didn't fit in the truck we had to wait for a van to show up to load the rest. Not until the truck was fully loaded did they tell me they would see me MONDAY when they deliver everything I own. I never agreed to this but had no choice since it took all day to load the truck. I would have packed differently had I known this was my only way to vacate the house same day so new owners could move in. Needless to say I was NOT happy. I didn't have plans to move on Monday. All my clothes, dog beds, dog food, medication, toothbrush and work stuff was in the truck. Did I mention how hot it was that weekend? Not ideal for my new computer or printer or medication. I have employees so I get no shows happen. All they had to do was communicate with me. I could have packed essentials in my car and let the rest go in the truck. Instead they made an executive decision with my belongings. Who does that? The guys who helped me move? I'd hire them for the company I manage. I told them to call me when they were ready for another job. They were professional, efficient and eager to please. They pointed out damage to my furniture before moving it so I'd know they didn't do the damage. The legs on my end tables however did not survive the 3 days of weight on them and 2 legs cracked. A couple boxes collapsed from the weight also so I lost a couple glass vases as well. This was the worst move in all my adult life and the most expensive. Tried calling the owners but they're conveniently not available. Full disclosure, I did reschedule 3-4 times due to my new construction build delays. Even so, I communicated with them as soon as I found out. Maybe they were banking on another reschedule. Either way, communication is key. read more

You might as well just hire a truck and help. They will not assume liability for damages. Also, the customer service is the WORST... it takes weeks to get a phone call back. It has taken 5 MONTHS of chasing them up. In JULY 2016, we moved a three-bedroom home from La Quinta to Indian Wells. Our fridge was the last to go out the door. The guys removed the handles of the doors and tried to get it through the door but it would not go. They ended up removing the front door and got it through. I received a follow up call on how the move went and I told them that not only did our refrigerator have scratches but the doors were uneven. After calling every few weeks for a follow up, they strung me along until now... they will not assume any liability for these damages. It is JANUARY 2017!!! We also have small dents at the side of two dressers but I was more concerned about the fridge. I am sad to have recommended them to the folks that moved into our old home. Next time, we will hire a truck and day help... and pay WAY LESS!!! read more

We were consolidating two homes (selling both) into one new location and Abraham Lara from Desert Moving provided expert guidance and valuable recommendations to us. Fermin and his team followed directions to the letter because we had "retain" and "remove" lists in order to whittle down the contents. We had a time gap before we could move into our new home so Desert Moving stored our "retained" household goods. Once we could gain access to our new home Desert Moving provided an excellent team consisting of Jose, Andrew and Jorge. WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! While the guy who came and gave us a quote was nice, the actual move was a disaster. They were supposed to wrap all of our valuable stuff and didn't. Our expensive dining table, which we specifically discussed with them, wasn't wrapped properly and was destroyed, as well as many other irreplaceable items. So sad we used these guys... don't make the same mistake! UPDATE: Management put their best foot forward and refunded us for the hour they overcharged. Desert City Movers made a very stressful move from CA to AZ run smoothly. Our experience with Abraham who came gave us an estimate was very good. He worked with me to get the price down & gave us slightly used boxes for packing our things. We then had to change the date & he accommodated us effortlessly. On moving day three gentlemen came to pack our things - Peter, Jesse & John. They were excellent- polite, friendly & extremely careful with our precious possessions. They had a few challenges but it was obvious they were very experienced & well-trained. They spent the night in a hotel & were right back to work at 7:00. Since this seems to be the only game in the Palm Springs area, you have to take what you can get. We had a confirmed reservation well in advance. The Friday before they were suppose to do our Monday move they called and said they couldn't do it until Tuesday, so they don't have a lot of consideration for your time, but they start charging you for their driving from Indio. Wish I could get paid to drive to work. Watch out for hidden charges. The original quote for under $1500 came out about 20% more. It's best if you pay them by check are they'll ding you with a service charge for a credit card too. Although they did get the job done they were technically a day late and a substantial up charge. read more

Worst, worst, worst moving experience ever....we have lost all our furniture and belongings. The company has ignored its contract with us and now won't even communicate with us. We apparently have a "small" ....4000 lb load which is a problem. We are trying to get this load from the desert to Bend Oregon. I had not required the services of a moving and storage company until this incident. I wanted a local company and selected Desert Moving & Storage. I was very pleased with the response of the sales person and the action from the team. I was treated well and the guys who packed the furnishings did so with total care. It was really nice. Just under a year later I came to pick up the storage. It was the first time I had a chance to see how the furnishings were stored. I was amazed at the care that had been taken with the packed storage and the ease with which it all unpacked on to the truck for removal. This is a good team! If you are looking for a good team that does good work, this is the right group. What I cannot tell you is if the price was fair. I thought it was, but I did not obtain compeitive bids. My review is very similar to Michele D's in Salinas. I hired the company for my move from Palm Springs to San Luis Obispo for pick up on July 31 to be delivered in SLO on August 1 2011. It has taken me this long to write a review because I am still quite angry about the experience. It all started out well other than the fact Robert told me that he would have the truck at my home at 7:00 a.m. in order to get me out and on the road by 10:00. When I called to confirm, Sam told me there was no way, as his crew didn't start that early. When they arrived on moving day, there were 3 men to load, 2 men to unload. As promised, I was out in the time I specified. I was pleased that they followed through with this commitment. The following day, the crew of 2 arrived early and unloaded. When they saw the stairs in my town home, they said that they would have to charge me extra. I explained to them that I already told Robert there were stairs in the new place and he said not to worry. They called the office, spoke to Sam and I was charged an additional $200.00 which I agreed to because I needed my belongings. Upon moving my furniture, a file cabinet broke apart. After much discussion, the movers glued it back together with Monster Glue. After they were gone, I found that it also had been glued to my carpet and baseboard which took a good deal of effort to remove. One of the movers also dropped a box of my kitchen items which included a decorative platter and glassware. Almost the entire contents were broken. They took the broken pieces with them and told me to contact Robert. The movers needed to leave and get on the road because they were headed up to Salinas and were already running behind. After they left, I began arranging my furniture and discovered various pieces of furniture were chipped and in some cases, chunks of wood missing. I chalked this up to the hazards of moving and figured it could have been worse. There were also deep scratches on my walls which needed to be filled in. When I contacted Robert regarding my broken dishware (I did not include the chipped furniture in my e-mail), I did not receive an answer. I needed to contact him numerous times in order to get a response. Robert told me that I could receive replacements that would not match the items that were broken or get a check for what the basic insurance would pay. So basically, I could get items from a thrift store or a check for about $3.60. I told him to send the check which he never did. Now here is where it gets interesting. I believe that I did not receive all of my boxes. At least one box seemed to be missing. I did not notice this until October 2011 when I was looking for some seasonal items. I did not contact Robert as it had been several months since the move and thought I would not get anywhere with this based on my experience with receiving compensation for my broken items. These movers were highly recommended by my local Chamber of Commerce. I would not do the same. My furniture was either broken or marred. Some very special items were destroyed and I am missing some of my possessions. I would not recommend these movers to move you across town, let alone move you 350 miles away. If Michele D gets to read this, I am wondering if you still have those boxes. They could be mine. Then again, they could be some other person's belongings. read more

I hired Desert Moving and Storage for my recent move at the beginning of August 2011. In all, it was a decent experience, with one large exception. First of all, you should know that this company is not among the cheapest out there, but they also do not claim to be so. My move from El Centro to Salinas (about 500 miles) cost around $3200. Robert sent 3 movers to pick up my belongings, and they were hard-working and never really stopped moving. They had all of my things loaded in a little over 3 hours. Delivery was very similar. With only 2 guys doing the unloading, they still had everything unloaded in about 3 hours. Very fast and efficient! I was quite pleased. Now, the negative: My walls were scratched in both my old apartment and my new apartment. Except for two corners that were scraped down to the metal frames (yikes!), the scratches were fixable with some elbow grease and a Magic Eraser. Annoying, but an unfortunate consequence of moving. Also, some of my less expensive stained wooden items (the kind that don't get carefully wrapped and taped) arrived scratched, as if they had been slid along the floor of the moving truck instead of carried into place. Also annoying, but not the end of the world. Slightly more serious was that "all-inclusive" price quote that was constantly called into question. The movers wanted to include several extra fees. After much discussion, they did end up charging me additional fees for tape and other moving equipment (blankets, pads, etc), which I had been told would be included in that "not-to-exceed" price. My booking agent, Robert, later told me that he would adjust those fees for me at the time of delivery, but that never happened. Frustrating, but I was willing to let it go. Here's the thing that I can't get past... the thing that has me writing this review. Upon delivery of my belongings, I also received two boxes that DO NOT BELONG TO ME. I have contacted Robert via email 3 times in an attempt to allow them the opportunity to remedy their mistake. Only once did I receive a reply. He emailed to say that he would call me on Monday to discuss the situation, but he never called. That was at least a month ago. To my knowledge, they have made NO ATTEMPT to restore these boxes to their owners over the past 2 months. If they were my belongings, I would want them back. I imagine that their actual owners feel the same way. The bottom line is this: The point of a moving company is to get your possessions from Point A to Point B safely. While my belongings all arrived at my new destination, DMC failed to do this for someone else and continues to fail to remedy their mistake. Mistakes happen, but I would have expected a business that is accredited with the BBB to fix such a big mistake in a TIMELY manner. read more

We had heard horror stories about most movers and we were pleasantly surprised at the professionalism of this company. Fermin, Danillo and Juan were friendly, polite and the hardest working people. I needed to have some furniture delivered to my mothers store 15 miles away from my house and it was too much for me to do on my own, and I had heard so many great things about this company that it was a no-brainer. They showed up on time and had the truck packed and unpacked in about an hour and a half. The movers were so efficient and careful with my fragile furniture, and they were so friendly and patient when it came to my mom ordering them around her store. I get a sick feeling in my stomach when I see DMC's logo. Crooks. Be very careful, read your contract very carefully, and get everything in writing. Don't pay for storage by credit card. Shop around and just know you are dealing with people who are deceitful, dishonest con artists. They say they are family owned, and the talk a good talk but be very, very careful and consider your other options carefully. Some specific details include: a much higher than discussed move out of storage cost; a story about how my items had to be re-packed resulting in higher costs; producing and inventory sign off sheet at the last minute (coercing), missing items including a good ladder in the truck that I checked at departure (they said they didn't think it was mine), and missing items including a pellet gun and some tools. Don't let them do any storage. These guys are crooks, like something you'd see on a reality TV show. Proceed with extreme caution. read more
