OK I have easily walked past this nail salon for 16 years and never thought to go in until this past June. I have natural nails and every now and then I will get a split deep in the nail bed and my nails need a silk wrap. So often when I walk into a nail salon, I get looked at like I have three heads, because my nails are long and natural and most people don't know what to do with them. But this summer I walked in and finally somebody instantly knew what to do so. I've gone back to regularly for maintenance and recently I had decided it was time to cut the nails down. But before I did that, I wanted to do something really cool and unique on my nails, since I am a grown person that is still madly in love with Legos, of course this is what we were going to attempt. I showed Jenny a picture of what I was thinking of and instantly she was ready to attempt this rare request. I can't believe how dope this turned out. Of course the Lego nails will be a staple for me. Maybe Christmas will do red and green lol maybe valentines will do all red maybe Halloween will do orange and black. Clearly, I'm excited. read more

I don't think I've ever hated a manicure more than the one I got today. I'm genuinely so upset because not only is it very bad but they charged me $130 even when I clearly, yet kindly, told them how unhappy I was with how they turned out. I've gotten a lot of manicures in my life, all over the world, and I've gotten some pretty wild things done that were easy to mess up. But seriously stay away from this salon at all cost. No one in there knows what they are doing. Starting from the beginning I asked them not to use tools to remove my gel I already had on, they didn't listen, and just said it's ok it's ok... like what no it's not. What I asked for was an ombré French manicure with shimmer. OMBRÉ. With SHIMMER. They gave me a bad French tip and did not even apply a base color. I was trying to explain and yet the best they could give me was a clear pink. They should have done a nude that was NOT CLEAR. And then they used the thin paint brush for the white instead of a sponge to create the ombré effect. All they had to do was apply a small amount of gel polish to a sponge and gently sponge it onto the nail. Nope. Then there was no blending either. No transition. And then they told me they had NO SHELLAC SHIMMER/GLITTER AT ALL. How is that even possible! It's not! I have been coming to oasis every month for six years. They do a fantastic gel manicure that always lasts for weeks. Jenny runs a tight ship and I have never had a problem. Today I had a horrible experience. First, they didn't have the color I picked for gel -- fine, I said I'd pick another. She brought me only one of the three rings of color samples to choose from. Still, not a big deal, I just had to ask to see the rest. Then the manicure itself. The woman who did my nails used the file so roughly/at such an odd angle that she filed my skin and broke my skin in 3 places. She then proceeded to rub acetone on my fingers, and it got in all the cuts, and then roughly cut the same broken skin when she was cutting my cuticles (because now it was uneven). This is horrible and could absolutely lead to infection. I may need to find a new salon. read more

I used to come here for gel pedicures years ago, so I decided to give it another try. Big mistake. I called ahead for a gel pedicure with callus remover, but when I arrived, the technician asked about my previous pedicure and then criticized the quality of the gel on my toes, making me feel uncomfortable. She kept pushing me to get a spa pedicure instead, insisting it included callus remover. After repeated pressure, I finally gave in. Next thing I know, she's slathering some weird green goop on my legs, wrapping them in plastic wrap, and dunking them in water--something I definitely didn't ask for. And then the kicker: $105 for a pedicure. I've had pedicures all over NYC, and I've never paid more than $60. But $105 before tip? That's straight-up price gouging. Never coming back. read more

Stopped by here on a Friday afternoon. Was super busy with almost all the seats filled but they took me anyway and was able to do a quick regular manicure for me. The regular manicure is $16, which is on par with other places. My nail person was very meticulous in shaping and cleaning up my nails which I appreciated. She did a great job and they had an extensive wall of colors. Many others around me were doing gel nails and they seemed pleased with their nails as well. There was a few seats in the front available to wait but not really a large space so expect to be right next to people in a tight space. It's a small area with many chairs crowded together which is typical for NY, but I wouldn't come here if you're looking for a relaxing mani pedi experience. I got gel x extensions here 2 weeks ago. They told me they'd last at least 4 weeks. It cost $200 (including a gel pedicure). Exactly 2 weeks later, one of my nails popped off. I called and asked them to take them all off. Obviously very disappointed and frustrated with the cost. I come all the way downtown to get them off so I don't have to pay at another salon. They take the nails off and leave my natural nails looking like absolute trash. And then on top of all of that, they charge me $15. I could easily have gone somewhere uptown and paid $10 and saved myself a 30 minute subway ride. At the very least, they should have taken them off for free and left a top clear coat so my nails look less busted. Unprofessional. Don't recommend. read more

The manicures are generally well done, but I've had two bad experiences with their customer service. One - halfway through my gel mani I realized the color was full of clumps. The bottle must have been old. I pointed it out to my manicurist and asked for it to be erased, but she insisted for a good minute that that's just how the color was. I've been getting that color (a very neutral basic OPI gel color) for years, and also, I know what a gel mani is supposed to look like... She must've realized how embarrassing it was for her and what it looked like for her business for her to say stuff like this, because I barely had a chance to respond before she stopped talking, silently erased the manicure and started over. The manicure took a long time. Two - I got a gel mani with someone named Cindy. She was good but shockingly rude. Lots of sighs, eye rolling, kind of jerking my hands around. I think I asked for one fix during my entire manicure which was asking her to file down one nail a little more. She literally shot me a dirty look. I did tip despite her attitude and she said nothing, just grabbed the bill from me and walked away. I don't think I'll ever go back here. I noticed the few times I've dropped by that they seem to have regulars that they treat really well, and it's also super packed all the time. I get the sense they may not ever be incentivized to improve their customer service, which is a shame. read more

This place used to be great. They must have become too popular to keep pace with. Don't bother making an appointment because you'll wait 45 minutes past time regardless. You'll be surrounded by other hopefuls waiting and watch them all walk out before their turn has come. In addition, what once was debatably the best gel mani in the WV, is now a rushed conveyer belt of disappointed clients. Maybe it's lack of adequate management overbooking the staff and scheduling flaws, but unless you're prepared to bring a book for the wait and walk out severely underwhelmed, I'd save your time. read more

They leather chairs are big and the are high quality you can really feel the massage. The color choices are extensive with almost every color under the sun for OPI and Essie. I go to this place because I live nearby. Their customer experience is very poor. I am a person of color and they always make me wait a significant amount of time even after making an appointment. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. They overcharged me for a manicure and were overall very rude. A girl snatched the tip I gave out of my hand, which was a very generous tip. I've been coming here for the past 10 years and get the nothing but the best. All of the workers are especially friendly and DETAIL ORIENTED. The mani-pedi was fine and I would probably have given them 4 stars, taking off one for lack of decor and scheduling issues--I went there with my sister and we had called ahead and said we wanted to be done together but instead they did her pedi first and then mine. Which was really OK, as we were not in a hurry and 80s supermodel Helena C dashed in for a last-minute mani-pedi so I got to sit next to her. Later they made room for my sister to sit next to me when her mani was done so we could chat without rushing us. And they have a great selection of colors. BUT--AND THIS IS A GIANT BUT--THEY GAVE MY SHOES TO SOMEONE ELSE! And then all they would give me was a card for a free mani. They kept telling me that the woman was a regular and would for sure bring my shoes back on Monday because she works in the area. And they generously said I could keep the pedi flipflops. But when I said I wanted my money back they forgot how to speak English and yelled at each other in Mandarin. And I still don't have my shoes and have no idea when/if I will get them back. There were not expensive shoes but they were very comfy. The only solace I have is that the shoes left behind were clearly custom orthotic shoes and a different size so I think the owner will want hers back and I HOPE will bring mine back to exchange. I left my # and I will of course call them to find out. But in the meantime I was shoeless in the West Village in mid-October and I didn't get much satisfaction from the people whose fault it was.
