Good spot. Legit owner/chef. Smaller, cozy spot that I'd rather support than chains or other places. Good tacos. Really loved the taquitos and elote

When I heard that former Berkley-prime spot Atomic Dawg would be closing down, it brought me a lot of unexpected mixture of feelings; my biggest question was who/what could possibly top the iconic hot dogs, the root beer floats and stylish nature? Here it comes: Mexican food. Mexican food that's so great, so authentic and one of a kind that it transcends Atomic Dawg in such a way that it turns incomparable. It's giving Godfather II, Dune Messiah, Tha Carter II. They say greatness is often achieved without rush; NOT. My food is often given to me in, not even, less than 5 minutes tops. The Pork Tacos had me speechless. They had me ACTUALLY speechless. I I have never tasted any corn tortilla tacos taste truly THAT uniquely delicious in the last 5 years of my life. I totally forget what the purple juice is called, I think it's Beet Juice? I forgot. But its secondary limeade isn't something to die for. The aroma of its origin still simmers. The Atomic still hovers over the front door, and the interior stays the same. But this time around, you feel some sort of nuance/(connection?) towards the people around you. It feels like Casa Amada. 5/5

Did the three tacos, one being chicken one being steak and one being mushroom. They were all amazing but the mushroom was unbelievable.

First of all when you get to this place, you know it's unique. From ordering at the counter to the layout of the actual building it is all very cool. The inside is very clean for being very old and the workers provide you with an unbelievable experience. Finally, the main star was the food. You can tell there was thought put into every item on the menu and judging by people's reactions, they look forward to the specials. Just a great great experience and anytime I go from Columbus to Detroit. I will definitely stop here if I get a chance

Visited Casa Amado Taqueria for Taco Tuesday. Cute spot on Coolidge just south of 12 Mile in Berkley. As I waited for my order I noticed several  customers in and out. Since it was my first visit, and I hadn't heard of the restaurant,  I got excited. I thought that it must be good and I certainly wasn't disappointed. I ordered a carry out of two mushroom quesadillas. The service was fast with excellent hospitality. The quesadillas were really good. The highlight for me were the seasoned mushrooms. I could hardly finish one, so I'll have the other for dinner tonight. This will not be my only visit. I'll be back for taco Tuesday again.

Really unique and delicious tacos. The chicken taco was definitely my favorite and I would definitely recommend it. Great spot overall!

This is not a typical taqueria that sevre regular Mexican food. Menu is focus on tacos and quesadillas . Prices are pretty high for one taco. $5.50. but 3 for $12. They are like gourmet taco or fusion taco. Loaded with ingredients and stuffing, and the combination of Ingredients and sauce do provide good flavor and balance. Shrimp taco is probably the best one that. Steak taco, the steak itself maybe too salty. Chicken quesadilla is nothing special. Plenty of cheese and meat in between each bite. Does the flavor and ingredients justified for the higher prices, maybe not but none the less, the tacos are pretty good

This little hole in the wall is totally worth it. They had a decent vegetarian menu, which I appreciate, and the margaritas are pretty good. The biggest issue might just be how heavy the food is, so I wouldn't come in if you're looking for light fare.

Casa Amado is the real deal. It first caught my attention when chef, Amado Lopez, was nominated for a James Beard award earlier this year. Orders are taken at the counter on the first floor. The dining rooms can be found on the second level. The tortilla chips were thicker than what I'm accustomed to, which is just an observation, not a complaint. It came with 2 salsas, a chipotle-arbol salsa and a salsa verde. The chips and salsa weren't complimentary, but were worth ordering. The quesadillas were cooked perfectly. The tacos were top notch. I typically don't care for chicken tacos, but the chipotle chicken is arguably the best taco on the menu. The pork and steak tacos were enjoyable, but I will say the steak taco was my least favorite of the bunch. The seema taco, which contains cactus, was surprisingly tasty. I had high expectations for Casa Amado, and it didn't disappoint. I will say, I would've liked to see more options on the menu, at least a greater selection of tacos to choose from.

First time trying Casa Amado and WOW! Any time I am back over in the area I will be stopping in and will be recommending to anyone that's ever in the Berkley area. Some of the BEST tacos I've had in Metro Detroit, and trust me I've tried a lot. I got the chipotle chicken taco, the Mexican bistec steak taco and the seema taco. I can't even tell you what my favorite was because like I said they were some of the best tacos I've ever had lol. We also got chips and queso to start. The chips were fresh, salty and cooked perfectly and the queso PLUS the margaritas... don't even get me started or this review will be a book by the time I'm finished. I won't lie - I was not expecting it to be what it was when I chose the restaurant for dinner with my friend (order at the counter, paper and plastic products etc.) but I feel like that's what gives it its charm. Every staff member was SO incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make our first trip so wonderful. 10/10 Casa Amado. Cannot wait to be back!!!

Casa Amado Taqueria is not your typical taco joint with predictable toppings but instead offers up a more gourmet version of a traditional taco. The menu, which is a bit limited, is centered around taco's, quesidilla's and their spin on a Mexican version of the hotdog. The base taco's have a double soft corn tortillas with your choice of seared/braised meat, tomato and cilantro. From there the taco's take an upscale twist with toppings that include roasted Nopale and bell peppers, creamy roasted poblanos, pickled onions, cactus and bell pepper slaw and other toppings to include some unique sauces. These toppings vary depending on the taco ordered. In the case of my inaugural meal at this establishment I had the three taco combo of chipolte chicken, beef and pork. all three tacos were well cooked and tasty where I absolutely loved the double tortilla concept. In addition to the tacos, I also ordered their house chips with a mild tomato salsa and their medium spicy chipotle Arbor salsa. The chips were well made with a nice crunchy texture and the salsa's while good did not stand out like the taco's did. Relative to the facility itself, Casa Amado has a small seated dining area on the second floor of the restaurant that has a comfy casual vibe to it. Staff is very friendly with prompt service and excellent follow-up. Overall I had a very enjoyable dining experience and am looking at returning here again in the near future. If you are in the Berkley area and like Mexican food you should definitely check Casa Amado out and their spin on gourmet taco's.

Drove past many of times but finally got around to trying their tacos, did not disappoint! Wonderful tacos, meats in each were tender and juicy, and their variety of toppings gives each of them a unique flavor. The pork was my favorite, very juicy. Their salsas are yummy too! The verde was the best. The red salsa is rather runny, ehich may just be a style of salsa idk but made it difficult to scoop with a chip, tasted great pouring a touch on the tacos though. Food came out pretty quick as well, only around 5 minutes or so (but it was quite empty when I went to be fair). Gentleman behind the register was kind and professional. As far as the interior goes, super clean and comfortable! Don't let the small exterior frontage deceive you, there a split level of sorts upstairs area with plenty of spacious and well lit seating! Loved the decor too, fun colors and textures. Will be back for sure! Only gripe was that it is a tad pricey. For 6 tacos of varying meats, the agua fresca drink and a chips and salsa with guacamole and extra salsa came out to around $45 give or take.

Very middling. not close to as good as any of the premier taco stands in the area. Maybe better than Grand Azteca. Maybe.

Let's just say they definitely improved ! We got an order of chips and their seasonal salsa, which was roasted red pepper, and it was very flavorful and delicious. I got a hot honey burrito with beans and rice and my gf got birria tacos. Also not pictured is a marg. Hot honey burrito was a lot of food! The rice is okay, a little bland and clumps together, unlike traditional Mexican fluffy rice. Refried beans are fine. Burrito is very filled and was super sweet from the hot honey which made it a bit hard to finish, but definitely enough food, and I probably could have eaten half. Birria tacos were delish and the consumé was super rich. Margs come in different flavors but they all kinda taste the same to me so far, and they're strong. Maybe a bit too strong? Depends what your goal is with them. Service was good, a little slow for us being at the bar, but nothing to be concerned about. Trivia was fun and we'll definitely be back to try some other things on the menu. Great job on menu revamp!

I had the birria tacos and I thought they were really good! The meat was super tender and the consommé was really flavorful and well seasoned, I've had some other places that were pretty watery. The restaurant itself has a relatively small foot print where the tables are close together and where there are no frills about this place and definately a tad on the rustic side. Facility aside, this place makes some excellent authentic Mexican street tacos where my El Pastor and Asada taco's were well made, PACKED with meat (no scrimping here) and oh so tasty. Service is quite quick where once seated you get your food within a few minutes making this an excellent spot if you are on the run and looking for a good meal on the quick. Prices are cheap in my opinion where my three taco's and a coke came to just $12. NICE! Two things to note here is that the chips and salsa are not gratis but come at an extra cost and follow up once you get food was non existent in my case. Chips and salsa was not a big deal to me but lack of follow up prevented this business from getting a fifth star.
