Food was fine - lamb shush kebab plate and falafel dinner. Service was slow -- may have been short staffed. Tables were spaced apart so we were able to have a conversation without being drowned out by others around us.

Great Mediterranean cuisine. Had tried the Forest Hills restaurant and now first time trying this one on Metropolitan Avenue. What a great decision to go on a Friday night dinner experience. A few suggestions Shepherd's Salad, get the chicken vegetable soup for cold days, Turkish pie

I was brought here on a date a while back and it was actually a pretty good experience. Service is super courteous and kind, and the restaurant is decorated well and spacious with many tables to choose from. My date ordered the chicken kebab platter and I got the eskendar kabab which is my favorite Turkish dish ever. I did taste the chicken kebab on my date's plate, and I found it a little bit on the bland side. Eskander kebab was delicious and the serving was absolutely huge, which is great because this makes for amazing leftovers. It was swimming in clarified butter and a delicious tomato sauce, which is just how I remember it being when I had it in Turkey. I like that they cut up the bread and used it as a base because it's soaked up all the juicy goodness and butter and also makes it easy to heat up the dish the next day. I wish the lamb was a little bit more of a fatty cut than Gyro style shaved meat though. That is the only thing I would improve in this dish. Overall, we had a wonderful dinner here and I would definitely come back to try other things on their menu, especially the baklava. If you are in this part of town, definitely check this place out!!

I wasn't going to come back, but all for second chances. Last time here they had no air conditioning on a hot summer day. But last night it was a different sort of problem. Service just sucked. Don't get me wrong, they are polite and friendly, if they notice you. Came in and the two employees were having such a nice conversation minutes passed before they noticed me. But then, I order my simple gyro platter and in a third full restaurant, still waited almost 25 mins or more for dry, kinda stringy lamb doner. Pictures are of only two things worth my time. Sauce and fresh baked bread. Rice was good. But... yeah, never again. Maybe the one on Austin, but not this one.

OBA has become one of our go tos whether it be for take-out or dine in, we are always left satisfied. The hot falafel and hummus appetizer is delicious. The falafel is crispy and flavorful and the hummus is smooth and silky. The Baba ghanoush is an excellent version without being overly smokey like other versions I've had before. The Lahmacun is wonderful. The gyro plate which comes with rice and salad make for a wonderful meal. Platters come in small or large depending on how hungry you are, but the small is by no means small. Even their wraps are delicious. I haven't had a bad dish. Another bonus is that they are BYOB (at least still as of a month ago) which I always appreciate.

BLUF: Lightly seasoned Turkish food. We've been here a few times to get the variations on the lamb döner for take-out -- as a gyro lunch special, as a pita, etc.. The lamb cuts are thin, moist, lightly seasoned and less greasy when compared with other places. I appreciate this healthy, lower-sodium approach. Single orders are packed with enough food to feed two people. The pita is good, with a buttery lightness, but both their tzatziki and red sauces are watered down. The red sauce seems to have more tang than heat.

A brand new Mediterranean spot on Metropolitan Ave with nice looking indoor and outdoor seating. Located several blocks away from Trader Joes. Lamb gyro (Doner): A generous portion of tender lamb shards in a pita stuffed with a garden salad of spinach, arugula, romaine, red cabbage, red onions and tomato slices. Perfect with white or red sauce. I prefer lots of the white sauce which gives the sandwich a perfect balance of flavor. If you like it spicy, give the red one a try. I will definitely come back for another one of these sandwiches. $9.25. Everything was fresh and tasty. The lamb was so delicious! The menu has a variety of different dishes to choose from seafood, shish kebab, vegetarian hot and cold appetizers and Turkish favorites. The restaurant was bustling with many customers who are eating in, taking out and delivering. Final note: Looking forward to trying out other dishes!

Ordered delivery. The chicken had hair in it, pita was stale, and tzatziki was slimey. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

The ones we had been to in the past usually allows you to also pick different type of cooking style or seasoning but this place only cooks it their way. It's good for people who are indecisive but disappointing for people who want variety of flavor. They usually have a section of appetizers and drinks you can order on a separate menu as well. The staffs were very low energies when we visited on a weekend night. The overall ambiance and interaction made us feel a little uncomfortable. We ordered: - eggplant dip - fries - Greek salad (large) - cooked fish - calamari - octopus Honestly I was so disappointed with the food. It didn't taste as fresh and was overall too salty. The eggplant dip had a weird taste. Friend fries were not as crispy and unevenly distributed portions of salt. The calamari was nothing special. The fish was okay, and the octopus was so salty we actually sent back the dish. It was very difficult to enjoy it. The staff was so accommodating and actually took the dish off our bill. (Thank you!! - great customer service!). My favorite item was probably the Greek salad, but then again it's hard to mess up a salad. I would say this is my least favorite counter order style seafood restaurant in Astoria. My friend said great things about it prior to my visit and I really wish I would have liked it.

Upon arrival you're greeted with a small, no-frills restaurant that moves people in and out relatively efficiently. You start the process by moving to the front and picking out the fresh fish you'd like for your meal. The gentlemen up front will then weigh it out and ask you how you'd like it prepared. My group ended up grabbing calamari, octopus tentacles, scallops, and a whole fish. We also ordered some baba ghanoush and eggplant with tomato on the side. The scallops and octopus, both of which we ordered grilled, came out first and were excellent! The scallops were soft and buttery with great texture and flavor. The octopus was the star of the show with an excellent bite and texture and great flavor from the olive oil and garlic coating it. Our order of fried calamari was also super tasty. It seems like they sprinked a special spice blend over it to give it some extra kick. Our last fish course was a whole fish served Egyptian style with blackened seasoning. The skin of the fish was amazing. It had a citrusy/salty flavor that was followed by the freshness of the herbs stuffed inside the fish. Our sides were also great with the baba ghanoush being my favorite dip. I give Abuqir top marks for their food and service. The cooks were very helpful in assisting us with making our fish selections and everything was cooked to perfection. If you're looking for a nice seafood meal with a group of friends come give this spot a visit!

I was exuberant for the occasion of goodness to patronize, at long last. What gives you hope. There is an outdoor seating patio that occupies the entire sidewalk and half the street. The weather was gloomy cloudy, but not raining which enable my party of two to dine outdoors. Our table was uneven wobbling and shaking minimal the entire meal which reminisce "Lisa from Temecula" sketch from "Saturday Night Live," but not as violently aggressive shaking. Customer service is average attentive. Oddly, our appetizers arrived first and my wine did not. We had to request my wine which should be distributed first without request or reminder, thus the four stars. This restaurant was not entirely busy nor crowded for a Friday early afternoon. Nick's Bistro is a small cafe with a modern aesthetic appeal. I enjoy and prefer to be well-cultured expose to all international cuisines without judgment and an open mind for appreciation and global awareness. I am not knowledgeable with Greek cuisine, but I do know that Astoria is the locale for the go-to restaurants. I enter with a empty stomach. I exited fulfilled. Business cards and candy were available for grabs. Nick's Bistro is easily accessible via MTA NYC Transit buses Q53 SBS/ Q52 SBS and then Q54. Dramatic irony: this business name is also the name of my former love - not the same Nick, certainly not the same man. My foodie synopsis: Lamb gyro sandwich, $12.00 The meat was soft, but fresh and Tzatziki sauce was heavy. I do not consume lamb often, but once in a blue moon I would not exclude lamb to consume. The pita bread was the highlight which was fresh, soft and cooked with a good consistency without burning or harden. The gyro contain very pauacity minimal vegetables of lettuce, half cherry tomato and red onion. I always prefer red onion. I prefer regular tomato. This sandwich ate my fill to sustain hunger pangs the entire afternoon. Gyro sandwich is always my default Greek entrée of choice. Oddly, this entrée is price higher than listed on their website for $9.00. I do not believe their website is updated for price. Caesar salad, small $11.25 It was fresh and delightful filled with Parmesan shaved cheese. This portion is actually medium size. The croutons are thankfully not hard, but I never like croutons at all. I am always enamored with the lettuce. Ruffino, Chianti, 2019 red wine $12.00 This wine is one of my favorite reds, but it is difficult to find at most restaurants or cafés not widely offer. It was a joyous delight. It is exactly as is dry, very medium-bodied smooth finish Italian red wine from Tuscany, Italy, crafted from indigenous Sangiovese grape. It highlight bright cherry flavors and surely tasted. I was floating in very high spirits. Chicken rice soup, pint $6.95 Served luke warm but not piping hot with steam visibly emitted. It was also served with Oyster crackers. It was enjoyable and warm the heart. Greek Omelet, over easy egg whites $16.50 It was served with Greek feta cheese with vegetables yellow zucchini and pita chips. I highly despise Greek feta cheese and the same for Greek yogurt because both are extremely heavy, thick and too rich. I do not see any tomatoes. This entrée did appeared well prepared and well cooked but no runny yoke. My neighbor thoroughly enjoyed this entrée. Every time I think of omelet it bring flashbacks from past long-haul international flights major airlines of standard airplane food popularity for in-flight breakfast, often served with potatoes, sausage, or roasted vegetables. Nostalgia brew. Omelet? Flight attendant, I'll take the Continental with pastries, toast and fresh fruit please. Then followed by Bedtime Care Bear make me fall asleep again.
